[Q] S3 Features in S2 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
Now that the GS3 has been launched, the most impressive features seem to be the software features than hardware ones. I am especially impressed by "Smart Stay" or "Direct Call".
Any possibility of porting these features to GS2 in a custom ROM? What do you all think? Have anyone started working on those already?
regards,
Nandi

[Q] Custom ROMS

Hi guys, new to the forum and fairly new to android, I've got a galaxy s3 international version locked to the three network in the UK, I've been considering using a custom ROM but wanted to know your opinions?
Criteria for me are simple, I like the look of stock android so I want that or something similar, but I like the functionality of TouchWiz so would like to retain that if possible. The only other thing is the quick settings/toggles on the notification bar in TouchWiz, this is something I now cannot live without so it needs to have that or something similar (tbh i just like the auto rotate, wifi and brightness toggles).
Thanks in advance guys, look forward to your answers.
Chris.
Welcome to the forums. Always check the stickies before you post.

the best thing to do is to try different ROMs for yourself. Everyone has their own preference and no 2 rom set ups are exactly the same.

Try Ms team rom....youll love it....lots of customization......
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Thanks for the advice, ill look into some roms and try a few out, another question i have though is whats the difference between the android development forum, and the original development forum?
Also in regards to checking the stickies about asking which rom is best I did not ask that, I simply asked for a recontamination from experianced users to help me find a rom which suited my specification, it wasnt as simple as which rom is the best, it was more of a "which rom can provide these features" kinda thing.
Thanks for the help though appreciate it, cant help but think how much better/faster my s3 will be without the samsung software

It will be much better. :highfive: I will be closing this though, as it will turn into a best rom thread and "who has more features" or "whose is more stable". Best thing to do is read up and try.

[Request] Mod Power button/Camera button

Hi all,
I've been looking around here and there for something like this for the past few months and still haven't found anything relevant about it.
The idea would be to use the power button as the camera button while the native camera app is launched to take snapshots on Jelly Bean official but rooted stock firmware.
Found a thread but sadly has been discontinued for some reason, here's the link :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1787709&nocache=1
So Anyways, was just wondering if a kind soul would either know how to code this or figure out if there's anything out there remotely close to what I'm asking for. Also, note that the "button switcher" app doesn't seem to work for that purpose, already gave it a go...
Thanks for your time and hope u guys had a good Xmas and will have an even better NYE.
up'
anybody ? Am actually quite surprised that no one is currently looking into this.
I know the feature is available on different Roms but would be ace if one could have it on sammy's stock Rom.
Oh well, I suppose I'll just have to wait & see.

HELP! Capacitive Buttons on Screen ?!?

Hello,
While changing my front glass screen of my S3, i've damaged the capacitive button interface, i've already ordered one new for replacement, but until there is there any way to have the buttons on screen like Nexus (NavBar) in a Touchwiz JB ROM? NOT like an AOKP or CM based rom.. I know that those have that option like paranoidrom.
Regards.
Check the first rule of XDA. Hint: you just broke it.
Your thread is also in the wrong section. Questions go in the QA
You're right.. i've posted on the wrong section...
About searching i've already did and didn't found anything for a International touchwiz JB ROM, can you post here an answer? or you just broke the rule 7 about this one?
Regards.

Well.. i got to admit, you're very good using google.. but i still didn't found anything on those results that works on a JB touchwiz, not CM10 based ROM, did you?
Rule N1
"Use one of our search functions before posting, whether you have a question or something new to share, it's very likely someone already asked that question or shared that news."
OUR=Google.. oh my bad, i've used XDA search engine, maybe its the same engine.. I dont know.
I Really apreciate your help, maybe i didn't said that i've tried everything on those results previously and that they didn't worked for me, it causes BootLoop's, so you assumed that i didn't searched anything, may be i didn't melted my brain searching but i've searched alot, im a member since 2008 and this is my 1st thread started by me, so i didnt started the thread without having a little fight with search options.
Thank you for you help.

[Solved] from Newb | What SGS3 do i have and

Hello,
i want to flash my Samsung device. It says at boot Samsung Galaxy S3 l9300 so i guess its an international with no branding.
But i am not sure and i wont do anything wrong. As far i could check for myself rooting+flashing is pretty easy i just want to make sure everything is good to go.
So please tell me how to check and thing.
Secondly, i dont ask you for the best rom/kernel but i ask you for some Roms with less preinstalled as possible but as much installed as needed.
e.g. its very subjectiv whats needed and what not so
i wont use google maps, video hub, mp3 hub and those social/sharing/web application.
The main goal why i want to flash my sgs3 is to maximize the battery as much as possible.
what i use daily:
Phone / E-mail / sms/mms / messenger / social networks (such as facebook, twitter but right now only fb) / Calendar / Contact / Weather / Alarm / Camera / file explorer / mp3 / cloudservice (such as dropbox) and but not so often this time but maybe more often in the future / news apps /
thats it. I really dont want to have all those ebooks/videohub/mp3/hub/flipboard and whatsoever. There are toooo much custom application i never would touch and some of them cant be deinstalled either.
Setting up the sgs3 with samsung and googlemail account should work properly...
Also i am not sure if i need the gmail application preinstalled. I want to use k-9 mail and i never touch gmail but i cant deinstall it.
I am unfortunately newb to it and i cant customize it myself that much but i am willing to install a less bloated Rom
Those are the two question:
What SGS3 do i have
What Rom could you suggest for as much as possible battery improvement/less consumption but still nice to have (i wont have an text base sgs3 like we know from linux itself not sure if that is even possible but i guess so xD)
Thank you for the time
regards
edit: here an screen from phone info

Please use google next time you have a question.
Anyway, doesn't "Modellnummer" tell you something?
If you are looking for a ROM less bloated browse through the forum and look for one yourself and see which one fits you better.

New to XDA also....sooooo.......you need to go to i9300 development and original development and read the Rom descriptions.
First you need to check XDA forum rules out.

What did i wrong? I posted in general becuz the forum rules say : if you are not sure where to post -> then post in general. Since i asked 2 different questions in once i wasnt that sure and thought the general section would be better.
Also i added the [Q] tag for question.
What else should i do?

Guys, i guess you are all professionals and also very sure what you guys do and what not to do. But as said, i am new to Android and even if i could do the researches by my own i would ask for confirm becuz please accept my apologuze for that but i wont do anything wrong !
Re: [Q] from Newb | What SGS3 do i have and
Ok, I'm going to be gentle on you......
Firstly, any help you get will be from people like me, ordinary users that have taken time to learn and then share knowledge.
The forum operates in various principals.
One of the fundamentals is that people read, read, read and learn...
Further to that using either Google or the forum search facility should preceed any posting of questions, as they have almost certainly been asked before.
Questions asking advice about Roms are nearly always considered as best Rom threads, which aren't allowed. The reasons for this are that every users needs are individual and also, from a developers point of view, it is no fun having your Rom compared to other people's Roms.
Just as an additional note, no one earns money from what they do here, it is just people sharing work they have done (in the same spirit as the principal of "open source"
So reread my first post to you, and follow the steps I advised, and you will become a good XDA user, as opposed to a bad one!

Read the rom descriptions yourself otherwise it is a what rom best rom post .
You are better to understand the basics before flashing or you may brick your phone .

All good & well posting to draw attention to that directive, but there isn't much point if you're not even going to report this thread.
Best KitKat at this time, can use daily
