Poor Battery life "ICS" - Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Pro

After updating ICS i root it straight forward, and experience the poor battery life, I waited 3 weeks and calibrated many times, and turn off all the unnecessary services as suggested in the different forums but result is same, before ICS, i was happy with 3 days battery life, but Now, it just keep the juice for 1 day that sux!
Notice, Android system is taking all the juice and its keep "Awake" why not in sleeping mode ? when not in use.

for me i use my mobile in ordinary mode for 2 1/2 days... 1 day if i use continue wifi

I recomend you to use this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1521309,because default ICS kernel suck. I'm using I-Scream build 10 (which is a lite version of Nordic .562 FW) with this kernel, and battery drain is about 2% in 4 hours. Also, you should make different profiles (with setcpu),for example when screen is off set profile to 122-460 mhz, conservative mode.

Can we use that kernel on official ICS and locked bl and is there any fc, problem with wifi or bug?
Sent from my Neo V with supercharged ICS ^^

yes,it works with official ics. If you don't have wi-fi issues, flash it dirrectly, but if you have wi-fi issues install first this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1609617,don't boot after install, and then flash Inteks kernel (without booting between installs). I'm using it on MT15i,and i don't have any lag or wi-fi issue. I don't know if it works with locked bl,because i have unlocked bootloader.

I think after update (wipe) phone is collecting info about battery and some other stuff, that's why your phone is awake all the time or maybe some app drains your battery?
Take a look at my stats.

Nothing to tweak. Besides, what did you tweak so far?
Stock ICS shouldn't drain so much. Do a clean flash again.
Android OS should report higher usage than in GB, but not that high. Do a reflash.

Stock, clean ICS doesn't drain so much.
If it does, ether some modifications are made, or something is messed up while flashing.

Op. You said you've disabled some services and calibrated many times have you thought of just letting it settle.
Flash again, rather than trying to undo everything that you've done. This time give it a couple of days to calm down then investigate if needs be.

Problem Solved
I follow the guide from [Solution] [ICS] Solve battery drain issue on 4.1.A.0.562 [05/07], seems like the baseband 70 was sucking all the juice, after downgrading to Baseband 64 the magic is back
Check out

woow, nice mobile network signal. I have bad signal but on BB70 phone works 3 days.

Stock kernel from Sony is good enough to,
you have a charger right peeps?

i dont think it is. been running it as stock with root thru zergrush (with data and wifi set to off with screen off and some bloat frozen or removed) and overnight it dropped by 4%. On .42 with the exact same variables set i would see a drop of around 10% to 15%. signal strength on wifi and vodafone seem to be stronger and more consistent too

just flashed this myself installed dooms v8 kernel, removed all the crap(didn't freeze uninstalled) gonna do a full charge before bed and see if the 20% drain i used to have is any better
sony must of recieved feedback about the baseband or the dev's found the problem from what i can see the only thing changed is the baseband

How to find out what the battery sucker is CyaogenMOD or ADW EX

Hi there
I recently switched to CyanogenMOD and also bought AWD EX and while having the phone set on battery save something seems to leach the it empty fast within a day and not using it even a lot.
I am not very familiar with Android and finding what process might be responsible for the battery drain.
Any idea? Is CyanogenMOD or ADW EX very battery demanding?
First try out BetterBatteryStats to see what is keeping your phone awake.
Did u battery wiping/calibrating before/after flashing ROM?

yep, download betterbatterystats, (xda edition would do) then look for processes that use a lot of time, not those with few seconds. If there isnt any, look for any partial wakelocks that also, use a lot of time and root out the battery draining application.
If nothing seems to be wrong, i suggest you download battery calibration app from market : http://bit.ly/x5sPR6 and calibrate.
Cheers
@PokMahPok: GET RID OF THE PICTURE IN THE SIGNATURE!!!
@cekuhnen: The most often experienced problem is that the CPU never actually sleeps. Go to Settings > About phone > Battery use and if "Android System" is using the battery the most, reflash your ROM.

@the pic complain lol whats wrong wif the pic D:
@cpuneversleep. the cpu not sleeping is probably due to a wakelock thats keeping it from going to sleep. use betterbatterystats to sort out the burden app.
ah I did not calibrate the battery - So I will download the app and follow the charge and then discharge process?
I think I did this cash wipe fore flashing the rom. Why do I need to do this?
I have attached the screenshots from my Android system including the states
and as it looks Android System is what is using up 45% of the battery.
However again I have no idea how to read this or what it means. What are those wakelocks - I assume a process preventing Android to put the CPU into a lower MHZ frequenze to drain less power?

Why should I reflash it - what does it fix or do? I am asking because I do not understand the reason for this but would love to get educated
Wakelocos are processes tat cn prevent your phone from going to sleep properly, which may cause battery drain. It is under partial wakelocks(click the scroll down menu)
When you reflash your rom, your sort of "reset" it back to its "default" state, so anything tat may have affected the battery would be gone.

its just a reflash, all your settings will go back to default. its not a factory reset.
Ok I wiped clean the phone, reflashed the rom, did a battery calibration
but for some reason I still have the large feeling that CyanogenMOD 7.2.0 drains the batter dramatically faster than Froyo did.
When I woke up 40% of battery was lost within the 9 hours I slept.
When I only browsed the web a little the battery took another deep hit as you can see in the graph when Wifi got on.
However in contrast to before now the only two things taking up the biggest parts seem to be cell Standby and Phone idle. At last the android system is not doing it.
Considering that 10 hours of mainly stand by drains nearly 50% of the phone makes this a unusable situation. Mild browsing the web for 30 minutes killing 10% is just bizarre.
Do you have any other idea? I was under the impression that CyanogenMOD 7.2 has much better battery life but I feel at least how things work on my phone it is way the opposite.
Could ADW Ex be the offender ?

What kernel are you using? There is a kernel out there, I believe franco's that drains battery on standby. I had this problem to and therefore switched.
Yesterday I flashed adfad666's Unofficial CM7.2.0-RC0 and this one is using this Kernel:
[email protected]
What kernel would you propose to use which would work with the CyanogenMOD ROM I am using?
If you have a better combination please tell me.

I've always had battery drain with kernel .35 even though battery life is suppose to be better. For better battery and stability it's better, in my opinion to go with a .32 kernel. You have flashed the new baseband therefore you'd have to revert back but I don't recommend that. CM7 just announced official release and a nightly build is up. I'm giving a try (seems to be better responsive). This has a different kernel. It uses 2.6.35.10.
I actually do not have the new baseband installed - flashed I only flashed the Cyanogen ROM with the old baseband.
Thus I could easily flash any oldbaseband rom.
Anything you suggest?

Yes, I suggest AdFad666's A8 version of CM7. I then suggest to flash Goldenleaf.v111206 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1227682
Don't forget to wipe battery stats after all of that.
Where do you get the A8 build from?
I only find this as being the latest:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436952#5
Do I even need to flash this old baseband rom he mentions on his website when I never did change my old baseband anyway?

Also we can't help, if we don't know what you use your phone for. If you are gaming a lot, then of course, it won't last long. Share your Battery Usage screen and also, if you have root, then BetterBatteryStats info page of Partial Wakelocks, Alarms and Processes.

Yup, agree with Someguy.. use BetterBatteryStats and figure out what's been running. Then get Startup Auditor to stop it from self starting or a Root app remover and disable it..

Yeah, that may be, but the thing with smartphones (not just android) a multitude of things can run in the background without you knowing. If something prevents the CPU from going into sleep mode all the time, your battery life is gonna suffer.
Check that first. Odds are it's something you installed. In which case, sure, a factory reset can fix the problem but it'll come back once you install that app again.. Get the point?

Don't use taskkillers at all.
Task killer kills the apps and if these start automatically again, it uses more power.
It is better to leave the app running than closing it and then it starting itself again. Android kills some apps or places them to cache if RAM is needed. Android doesn't work the same like Windows.

Is completely normal with smartphones. The batteries do not last very long on smartphones.
ICS uses a lot of phone's CPU which results in more battery usage. You can do nothing but wait until SONY does something about it in next update!

Battery drain on neo v

Hi guys. Just noticed that I have battery drain. My battery life is about 6 hours. I have stock ics rom ( 4.1.B.0.431 ). I've disabled wifi, 3G, set brightness to 35% but have same problem.
Since you are on stock ICS, I suppose your baseband version is
.72 . Try flashing a lower baseband. Check out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1640641
You can also turn off the bravia engine! Saves some for me! Or juz see which apps eat most of the battery and find a solution for them! Also do u use any task killer? ( battery Dr. Is the best! Its widget is a great task killer!)

BB would not be the problem, check whats consuming battery using 'Better Battery Stats" either here or on Play Store
and to be honest, stay away from crap like task killers
PS : i used Juice Defender Ultimate when i used stock, nothing since custom ROMs
Another way
I use turn off keypad light to save energy too
to do this , first you must root your device and install Root Explorer , then go this address :
/sys/class/leds/button-backlight and change the file brightness to the value 1.
Than change the file max_current to 1, too. Go to /system/etc and than hw_config.sh and change max_current to 1. Reboot & Finished :good:

For stock, non root - your only options are the likes of Juice Defender.
At least root your phone & get rid of the bloatware. You will realize the difference.

disabling the facebook account on my Neo v did the trick for me. Now the battery lasts more than a day under normal usage. You can try that
Here it is, as you can see 70% in 5 hours.

Hi,
There is nothing useless in XDA Forum and regarding issues of random reboots varun is looking into to fix it till then many of using app to fix use that....Don't say that useless coz if it was useless Dev's wouldnt have released any Rom...Remember always respect the Developers works has they put lot of efforts on it .....Its easy to comment like useless and all but you dont know how hard it is to fix issues/develop a Rom in practical....! never comment that its useless if u dont like it dont use it and dont comment simple
What app will I install to prevent the phone from a random reboot? Thanks.

you will have battery drain but not much.atleast you can get rid of the random reboots and enjoy the rom.I am a moderate user so i am getting around 15 - 16 hours of battery..

because it always keeps the cpu active, phone just doesn't goes into deep sleep,so that's how it affects the battery life,
but yes on the other side there wll be no reboots.
I was just wondering, then why not lower down CPU freq every time you sleep your phone? As in, lower it to most lowest freq. Yea it won't go to deep sleep but at least no random reboots and battery drain.
Since I don't have this MI3 as of now, you guys can try by installing SetCPU and do some profile settings.
