[MOD] Galaxy Note with Sony Bravia Engine mod ICS demo - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

left hand side: bravia engine on
right hand side: bravia engine off
EDIT: mirror added as 4shared now requires registration
WARNING: LEAKED ICS MAY BRICK YOUR PHONE Public Service Announcement: ICS Leaks and Recovery - HARDBRICK WARNING
it is suggested to follow the installation procedures and copy the files manaully if you worry about bricking your phone
note: although this is not built from AT&T i717, it can be used on i717 as well as reported by users for the gingerbread version. however, if u encounter any problems, feel free to contact me by leaving a reply here, or adding a comment in my blog at Galaxy Note Sony Bravia Engine ICS mod - http://ykkfive.blogspot.com/2012/05/galaxy-note-sony-bravia-engine-ics-mod.html
for developers and rom makers:
- pls kindly let me know or put my name in your post if you put this mod into your roms so that i know who is using it. this is because experiences in the sgs2 one tell me users will only ask for help in your thread and they even dont know which gallery they r using, since most of the roms just put the words "bravia engine" or "new gallery" and that's all. i cannot, and in fact impossible, to read every post in every thread to help them to solve the problems. what i want is to consolidate the questions and problems so that they can be identified easily, and to help ppl to solve the problems.
more, pls add a link either to this post, or the original howto at http://ykkfive.blogspot.com/2012/01/sgs2-gallery-sony-bravia-engine-demo.html for users reference
thank you
a few notes for users:
- ALWAYS DO A BACKUP FIRST!!
- pls, pls forget anything u've seen before about the bravia engine and forget about the prop files. there is NO NEED to modify any file yourself to make it works
- if u wanna use the bravia engine to render/redraw ur wallpaper, u need to pick the wallpaper again in my modded gallery since the existing wallpaper is cached/stored and the system will not re-generate the wallpaper each time the phone boots up
- all steps in the installation guide for sgs2 should be the same for sgn and so far i couldnt find any difference between them
- the only difference i observed is about the performance. in sgs2, the image will be rendered almost instantly (on my modded sgs2 at least, i dono how it performs in stock rom). but on this sgn (not tuned yet), the image will be rendered piece by piece from the bottom right to the top left and u can see that visually

yes, leaked ics is supported, but not cm/aosp, etc

I tried to flash it with the zip but it doesn't install the files so I moved them manually with root explorer.
I cant tell for sure if it works. Will have to do more testing but it is a cool idea and will keep following to see how this develops.
Thanks again for the pm of the link.

u welcome, it's just a link and no big deal
but i am interested in the problems u encountered. what do u mean by 'it doesnt install the files'? do u mean it failed to install in the recovery or what? and since u know how to play with root explorer, u can copy the files manually to the target locations as stated in the howto
one more thing, if it installed but FC, it's probably due to the conflicts between this mod and the previous gallery. so remove/rename/move the old gallery data will do if u can to avoid lossing other data, else do a wipe
feel free to tell me if u have any problems

I installed all the files fine with root explorer. The zip might not be written for our note.
No problems. No force closes. NO BRICKING! Haha
I just don't really use the stock gallery and it is hard to see a difference for me.
I was hoping this would give a system wide improvement.

sorry for the ads but if 1 per 10000 users kindly donates for my works and help to break my zero balanced account, i don have to put those annoying ads. to be honest i hate putting ads on my site

I wanted to check this out. Unfortunately, the website is so overwhelmingly cluttered with adverts I can't deal with it or navigate it appropriately.
If this is a real product and not a ploy to get advert clicks and traffic to your website, then best of luck to you with the project. It looked interesting. Sorry I can't check it out.

Looks great man. Is there anyway you can put those files into zip format so we could download this straight to the phone and open it that way. I ask because I have limited access to a computer. Great work none the less!
the vibrant's Framework is set up way different than the i9000 or the captivate... If you would like I could port this over for you, seeing as I have a vibrant to test it on...
Does anyone know if this works on eugenes hybrid rom?????

[Guide] The ultimate xperia play pack

Xperia Play Pack
I have made a Xperia play pack for people to download which contains all the information you will need to root, unlock and flash your play, with guide's to follow.
The reason for doing this is because i have just had some time to play with my phone, and i have had to spend hours going through different forums and post just to work out how to get thing all working. i can also see loads of people confused and asking question because they dont really understand whats going on. So really it is a newbies guide to it all.
Whats in this pack
Guide on how to use flash tools to flash any updates and i have also included the .184 UK firmware update.
Guide on how to unlock your bootloaders with all the files included
Guide on how to root your xperia play with all the files included
Guide on how to use clockwork recovery.
I will be writing more guides as the scene develops mainly newbies guides and i will be updating this post with more download links.
Installation
1.Download Pack1
2.Unpack the .rar file to a location on your computer your going to remember, for example your desktop.
3.Then open the read me file inside.
4. You must always download pack 1 first then just extract the other packs in the same place and overwrite the files.
Just to let you know this is not the final pack im going to be making the guides a bit more noob friendly, and if you have any problems let me know.

The imported version won't work on Verizon, so if you are stuck on Contract.... sucks to be you. You might be lucky to get a SIM that would work with AT&T or one of those... maybe. Likely just slightly different frequencies. I haven't compared the US-side GSM networks closely enough.

[Q] Why On screen buttons don´t work on ICS 4.0.4

Hi there, have someone here tried to activate the on screen buttons for xperia s using the following document:
[MOD] Enable Xperia S on-screen buttons (Stock ICS 6.1.A.0.452) on the development section? cause i tried, however it did not work, i am running last version of Android 4.0.4 with unlocked bootloader and root as well, I followed step number 3 just to replace the original file as it is explained on the post, right after the phone rebooted by itself and as a result i get a bootloop. I would apreciate any help that you can provide to me

Or you use the CWM file (last page, reuploaded. Or you paste the file on the /system partition, set permissions and then move it to /system/framework.
Framework-res.apk is propably one of the most important files from the entire Android system.
MMM ok, i think it would be easier to just install the ZIP file with CWM, however file is no longer available on your post, it seems it was removed from Mediafire server, so you think just by setting permisions i would be able to achieve the goal?

[Video Guide] Xperia U --- How to unlock and Root

I had hidden it inside another thread, but figured it should be mentioned in the Q&A for all those that could use it.
For ICS (android 4.0+)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
For GB (android 2.3.7)
It will guide you step by step through the unlocking process and rooting the Xperia U
(same principles apply for P & S but no examples/kernels provided)
Credits (links)
Guide based on the information provided by DoomLord
The 1.564 kernel is made by DoomLord
The 3.184 kernel is made by KeiranFTW
More information about warranty: visit Sony Forum
For the noobs:
Root / Rooting = to lift the default protection of the Android OS and gives you access to all system files that are normally hidden from you
This enables extra functionality but also requires knowledge about the android system to know what is safe to do and what not.
- Simple root use: changing theme elements / new battery icons / individually controlling the LEDs
- Advanced root use: overclocking your CPU / adjusting the OS / making a custom ROM
Nice!!
Is Their Any Solution To Root Without Unlocking Bootloader . I Know Their is One in XPERIA U Development Thread but Its Links Are Not Valid ..and moreover its for Xperia U .564 firmware but I Want it For The .184 ?...
That one was fake.. Might be possible when ICS comes.. But am not sure
Sent from my ST25i
Thanks! It actually helped me root my XPERIA U!
Followed the guide, my U lost the ability to change colors when viewing the themes (cosmic flow) although when viewing images it still works fine. Also started getting some lag. Any way to somehow fix these?

This is a known bug on the Xperia U. However to fix it, all you have to do is install the Light1.1.apk from the following thread (Credits to straciam).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1823418
PS: I have not tested this app but I speculate that this will be the solution based on the comments in that thread. I would recommend you to read the thread first. If this helped, do thank me and the developer of the app
@nixx-X1: I would like to request you to incorporate a re-locking guide for Xperia U. I would've done it myself but seems like your video tutorial actually makes things simpler.

Will try to do that when I get home next week thanks. I now have a new issue lol. Recently tried out supercharged kernel by vito, prob is that when I press the power button the screen somewhat flickers before fading to black. It goes fuzzy like in a tv but only quickly. Tried turning off and on my phone but its still there. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

To Un-root, all you need to do is Flash the stock ROM FTF. There are 2 threads in the Xperia U Development thread that has all the information of Download links to the FTF's ICS and GB. Just have a look. Just a quick guided video would be helpful.
---------- Post added at 04:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:11 PM ----------
I am using the Supercharged Kernel too and I do not exactly know if it is a problem coz I believe it is the fade out effect. I never experienced any flicker of any sort. Could you please tell me what precisely is happening? BTW, what ROM are u using?
Thank's!

Its the fade out effect. Before I used the kernel the screen normally goes black, now the fade out effect has gray and white fuzzy things. I don't think I have tried to change my ROM yet.

Thank u for your advices.
U mean the path "/system/lib", right?
I have found 4 files (below) which contain "camera" in their names, but just have no idea to add into apk file.
Is there any possibility to the files that don't contain "camera", but are relative to the camera?

Once you find out the dependent files (Re-read the guide) you take these files and package them in CWM flashable .zip not necessarily adding them into the apk file.

Yes system/lib.. you can transfer them via recovery too instead of making a flash able zip..
Yes there are possibilities that there will be files without the name camera in them.. but that's what logs are for

Yes system/lib.. you can transfer them via recovery too instead of making a flash able zip..
Yes there are possibilities that there will be files without the name camera in them.. but that's what logs are for

Well, I almost give up this project...
I had asked my friend, he gave the following attachment to me.
It can just open, but all of the special functions like PixelMaster & GIF recording are all broken.
I guess it may be related to hardware issues...

Hardware issue…
My Xperia SP has an 8MP rear camera,
but I guess it lacks of something like an image processing chip.
Port ver lolipop thank bro

Oh man, I would love to be able to get the PixelMaster app back on my Zenfone 2 (I'm running Cyanogenmod 12). The default Google camera sucks horribly compared to the stock ASUS camera app.
Has there been any more work on this project? I'm gonna read that guide myself and work on it, but I guess I'd have to put the stock ROM back on my phone first.

If you install the apk on the zf2 with cm12 it works. Only issue I've found is the depth of field doesn't work

Oh, really? That's kinda nice, although yeah the depth-of-field working would sure be nice. I'll have to try it out tonight. I can just use the .apk from the OP, correct?
Well I tried installing that .apk from the OP. Had to allow installation from unknown sources first, then after hitting Install, it asked me to give Google permission to send data and whatever else. Regardless if I select Accept or Decline, I always get an "App not installed" message.
Damnit, I was looking forward to using it! I think I'm gonna try stripping it from the stock ROM myself.

Alrighty, thanks. I actually was searching for PixelMaster .apk this weekend but didn't have much luck besides seeing a ton of frickin spam sites masking as legit .apk download sites. I'll do another search tonight.
Hopefully I can get the .apk to install. It sure would be nice to have the depth-of-field working, but after skimming through that thread linked earlier (How to Port OEM Apps to Your Current ROM) there's no way I can follow that. It's nice the guy put together a guide, but being unfamiliar with this stuff I need to follow something written in clear English.
I guess the ASUS Camera app was easier to find than I thought. The first time I tried it was nothing but spam site after spam site. Maybe it was Bing's fault, haha.
But I got version 2.0.0.150805_5 and it installed with no problem and works great. Thanks for your help, ejames2001, I appreciate it.
