How can I tell if I have Gen8 or Gen9? - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I am not new to computers or Android devices but I did get my first Android tablet (used) from a friend recently. All I know is that it's an Archos "101 Internet tablet". I did see on the back that it says "Model Number: 8000", does this mean it's a gen8?
Also what are some threads I should read to get started on rooting my device and flashing new ROMs onto it?
Thanks!

It is gen8. Check Developer's section for custom ROMs

Use the search function... there'd been some posts covering this device.
It is neither Gen8 nor Gen9... from the outside it looks similar to the Gen8, but inside completely different hardware.
Concerning software, also different design.

Why would you both posting this twice in the gtablet forums? The reason you cant find anythign is because you bought a cheap tablet no one takes the time to work on

But Sir,
I asked for help .. and people are coming up with such rude replies .. its so disappointing
perhaps you and the gentleman that started this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17065298
can put your heads together?
other than that, my searches produced teh same results you received...
It looks like it's so obscure that you are one of 2 people that have posted about it in any forum on the entire internet...
Next time, get something not so obscure...not being rude, just saying
Lolzz .. Yeah man ur absolutely right ...

[Q] ViewSonic VPAD10

Hey I have a ViewSonic VPAD10 that I picked up from a friend. It seems to have dual boot for Windows 7 and Android 1.7 i think.
Is there a way to install Android on the NAND, for example Honeycomb?
Also, does the ViewSonic ViewPad 7 applies to the VPAD10....for example the ROMS available?

Assumed you've search but missed the response, you would've learned to NOT do it but you could still try your luck & ask the folks at the Viewsonic 10" Tab sub-forum for what you wanted to believe in.

if you go to androidtablets.net and search for Coby Kyros Mid 7012 you should find a thread where I posted some messed up stuff.

Just grabbed one of these to run Pandora in the garage.
I was kind of hoping XDA would have some interesting stuff, but I guess not. No surprise really.

firstly this isn't ebay you dont need huge writing and different coloured font. And this isn't really a device supported in these forums, but firstly was the battery fully charged/plugged in when you tried to update? Does it turn on at all? i.e. get the first splash screen?

Why do you need to attract the reader? if they have opened your thread they will read it...
this is the archos Gen 8 and Gen 9 forums which the arnova products do not full into.

Sorry for interrupting your discussion.
We got similar questions few days/weeks ago.
The Arnova devices have different hardware than the original Archos Gen8/9 series.
These tablets are neither gen8 nor gen9, they are something special
The firmware and update mechanism is also different.
The best would be to search for Arnova related stuff in this forum (i'm lazy too, but i like searching).
There'd been a lot of related postings already, so you might get some answers/links which put you in the right direction.
Best regards and good luck,
scholbert

As scholbert said, and what I meant was these arnova tablets are neither archos gen 8 or gen 9 so its very unlikely you will find the help you need here, so yes best search xda or more likely try to find another forum that has a section for these tablets
Try here HotMind

What I understood is that you want a stable ROM, no? I don't have this device but, if you're a newbie, please use the stock ROM which is most stable. There are a lot of new brands which doesn't have developers' support. Just make sure to always flash the right ROM for your device and you won't get any broken features. Shortly, wipe data and flash stock ROM.
P.S. From my experience: never try to flash a ROM that is made for another device.
thank you

Sorry but I'm not owning this device.
Yeah, I too am trying to root this device ... and I did the search on what you had which produces nothing. Any other help would be appreciated.
Hi, I bricked my A33 Quad Core tablet. I was able to root the tablet by kingo Root app, and then on one Russian site I found twrp for A33 and I tried to flash it with the flashify and my tablet got bricked. Since then I was not able to back on the firmware which came in with the tablet.
I used phoenix suit to flash a rom. I am using a rom which is about as good as original was the only problem is that it does not rotate, Just in one form.
I am looking for the right firmware, if anyone can help or if I can fix this issue by installing some application.
I have attached the picture of my original recovery and the picture of my board.
I accidently found out, if you hold your volume up button and then also press the power button for 10 sec and then leave vol+up and power button simultaneously, your tablet will boot in recovery mode. Works for me.
