EVO LTE for $139 from Wirefly. - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Just Pre-ordered EVO LTE from Wirefly (Upgrade Price) for $139
Was $119, sorry ladies & gents, deal was limited time only.
I started a thread in the OG EVO forum before this forum existed, thought I would pass this along to the XDA community.
I have used Wirefly before, I was very happy with them, so they will continue to get my business.

Will wirefly bill your sprint account or do you have to pay cash?

You pay upfront. Just like other pre-orders.

When does it say you should receive your phone?

Just a friendly warning, the sale seems to be linked to specific zip codes. The link in the OP is setup for Garfield NJ, 07026 and the one I actually used was for Spring TX. If I updated the zip to my real zip code, the sale price is $149. Their system will also AUTOMATICALLY make your City, State, zip that of which the link takes you to.
Now I placed my order, realized the address issue and will contacted them tomorrow to modify my address. Not sure if that will effect the price I pay BUT one thing is for sure, its not going to cost me $217 either way.
I'll update here after I get the address corrected and confirm my price after. I figure I'll give it a day in their system to get to stick and then update the address.

I ordered yesterday for $149.99
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

It should be noted that there is a $37 activation fee from Sprint.

I changed the zipcode to mine (here in chicago) and it kept the $119.99 price. And yes, there is a $36 activation fee, but this is still cheaper than $150 if you figure in the $10 google wallet credit...
$119.99
$36
-$10
-----------
$145.99
Not bad at all. Not the $10 I paid for my evo a few days before christmas (price match + rebate), but flipping that, I should net under $50 or less for the whole thing.

EVO for $99.99 if you have Bank of America
Log into your bofa account and click on the add it up link. click on cell phone deals and bofa will credit your account $50 if you buy using their link. I tried getting the $119.99-$50 add it up, but it won't work.
One or the other.
By the way, to get the $119.99 deal, do a google search for "wirefly friends and family" and click on the first non-ad link.
So to summarize, $119.99 if you don't have bofa
or
$99.99 if you have bofa using the add it up link.

I wouldn't see why they would, if you are worried activate it on the line you used to upgrade, then switch the phone over to the line you want it on.

How will they know? You don't activate through them. You buy from them, tell them it's for the upgradable line, then when you get it, you activate through Sprint and have them so the switch. Wirefly is out of the picture once you have the device.

Why is there an activation charge?
How is this any different than buying a phone off of Craigslist and getting it activated?
Edit:
Does Sprint charge $37 activation even if you get it from them anyway?
(If so, then this isn't an issue. Gotta pay it either way, right?)

Because you need to "activate" it on the carrier and it's no different, you would be paying the same charge no matter where you get the phone. Now, the activation fee did double but that puts Sprint in line with the other carrier's activation/upgrade fees and adds more cash to the "fix the network" pot.
*Activation is $36

I had this same intention. I called Wirefly and they do NOT let you use another line's upgrade for your own (idk why thats what he said). You would have to swap the upgradeable line with yours like others have said. Part of the reason is because their policy is to activate it themselves (I asked them if they could hold off on the activation, the guy said no) so its running by the time it gets in your hands

Just wanted to check back in and confirm that I did call and update the address for shipping and everything is right on track, price is set at $119.
Now just hoping we do get ours before the 18th but if not, so what, this was a great deal.

This doesn't entirely make sense. If you're upgrading, that would mean your existing device stops functioning when they activate the new one. This is obviously not acceptable. I'm quite confident you actually have to call in and activate it once you receive the device. THEN your old device stops functioning. Now if you're buying a new line of service then it may arrive activated (though past purchases from amazon for tmobile did require activation AFTER receipt of device).
ymmv.

Wirefly has a ad on its front Page saying free activation wheb adding a line or doing a new activation.
Food for thought to make it a even better deal...

I've heard of people doing this, just never knew what hte implications were. I always worried that it might disable the airave or something.

That thread seems pretty relevant to what you're doing. Seems you may get away with it at a Best Buy or something, but not at a Sprint store.
does it not change your plan?
I'll play stupid if anything happens AFTER I get the phone. Sprint is usually good at fixing errors. Very happy if this works. Save my upgrade for the S2 then I can compare both and give the one I don't want to my g/f.

Cool, I might have to try this out at Radio Shack when I go pick mine up Friday. Be really nice if this worked and I could keep my $150 upgrade on my main line in case something else can along.
Damn I want to try this but I actually use my airrave and I am not paying for it monthly either

I got a free Airave and service from Sprint. Just checked my account and wrote down my Airave number and MAC ID. I'll try it out on Friday, hopefully it will work.
Great, now everyone in the community is going to do this so those who wait are going to get screwed. Awesome!
On a side note, last year I went to BB and "added a line" to get my Evo. Then went to the parking lot, called sprint and put the Evo on my primary line and told them to keep the "newly established line" open and free of a device. The rep asked me what my intention was, I told him I had an old phone to give to my child on this line in one-two months.
Presto, free upgrade, the additional line disappeared and I never had to do anything...
Login to your Sprint account at Sprint.com. Check under devices on the My Account page for your current cell phone and Airave. It should say that the Airave is eligible for a $150 upgrade. There is also a phone number attached to it. You have to use that phone number attached to the Airave. Then on Amazon just pick the same exact plan options including insurance or whatever extras you have on there and at the end of the checkout it asks for you current number and last 4 of your social security number. Put the Airave number in there along with your SS# and presto
I also got the free Airave device and free service two years ago but have never used it. It has just been collecting dust but now has a purpose!

Question, if you order through Amazon, do you have the option of returning within a thirty day period?
By the way, just called Local Sprint Corp store and he said no way in hell.
Also, on another note I had TWO airaves up until two months ago, both listed with full upgrades until I called sprint and got the new airave, at which time they deleted one of the airaves... coulda been rolling in mobiles here, darn.
Also placed an order at wirefly for $179.99 plus $30 cash back!
I wonder if both orders will go through. HAHA!! I should just cancel my best buy one.
Absolutely Amazon Wireless operates the same as the regular Amazon site and has the 30 day return policy. If I get charged for anything other then the upgrade, I will just return it and say I was confused because my account said there was an upgrade available.

The other thread linked has 3+ stories of ppl doing this at Sprint Corp Stores.
This is so old.The order goes in but won't ship anymore and the ones that get passed and do ship sprint does not allow then to be activated even on a different line.
You could before but sprint since that time has got wise and rejects it.What happens to the orders that are shipped is you are charged full price so you have to return it or get charged full price.Take your pick.

Galaxy SII for $99 + waived activation through Att for new or add a line customers...

Just wanted to give you guys the heads up in case you wanted to save some cash.
http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/de...are&siteId=dZCX6Je2w8Q-qVgZQxVXkXmNQFaqr618rQ <-- Direct Att link
Just click on either "new customer" or "add a line" then search for the Galaxy S II, add your voice/data plan and checkout and you will see a 50% off promo applied ($99 off) + the activation fee is waived + free overnight shipping.
This deal doesn't work for upgrades so this seems like just for new customers and those that want to add a new line to their family plan. For upgrades you would want to go through Amazon Wireless for the best price $150 tax free.
Hope this helps someone

Your welcome. Happy to help
Thats the thing I'm not really sure how long it lasts
The article that I found this from is http://www.logicbuy.com/deals/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-smartphone/34417.aspx which says that the free activation ($35 value) ends on 10/3 but doesn't say anything about when the 50% off coupon ends...
AT&T usually has those 50% off coupons available most of the time. If this one gets disable you can just chat with a sales representative and they will give you a link to the newest coupon(s). Also, I doubt the iPhone 5 will do anything to the coupon(s) since these don't work with iPhones and some other few phones.
this is a great deal..thanks!!!!
Thank you for the info! Just added a line for my dad and now I have a GSII shipping to me by Tuesday

I just tried the above link again, and it still has 50% off for me.. maybe clear your browse cache, and make sure you pick all the plans, and add to cart. The discounted price should show up when you check out.
says 199.99 for me also...
I see you need both a voice and data plan when buying the Galaxy s ii. My question is: will the senior Nation 200 plan (for 65+ customers - not sure of the name of the plan) qualify as the voice plan or does to have to be a $39 and up plan? Thank you

They hate me 'cause I'm a Premier business account. This time, I registered for a brand new line and hopefully it will come around. Then I can just combine the lines with my current FamilyTalk and it should be okay.
ahh, gotcha. I went ahead and placed the order with the above link. There are no more free activation and no more over night shipping (2-day shipping instead), but I still got the 50% off for the phone.. overall, pretty good deal!
Btw, this deal still exist until 10/7, but you have to pay activation, and it's 2-day shipping now.
Still works as it's available until 10/7. You have to place the order rather quickly to keep the discount active. If you leave it for a few minutes - it will become invalid and you will have to start the order all over again. Fortunately when I did it again it was already in the shopping cart as I clicked on the link by the OP.
I saved a hundred bucks by going this route than going in the store. Sure, it's nice to get a number of your own choosing and having the phone right away when you buy it in the store, but saving a Benjamin is a no-brainer, period.
was going to add another line with this, but I don't get the $99 price at checkout.

[Q] Registering View on Sprint without contract

I purchased an HTC View online and received it today. Has anyone had any luck registering one of these on Sprint without signing a contract? I tried at my local Sprint store and didn't have any luck. It's a "good" Sprint store too - one that understands customer service and usually bends over backwards to make their customers happy.
I'm currently a Sprint customer and would like to sign up for their $20/mo plan for times when wifi isn't available.
Apologies if this has already been discussed - I did some searching and couldn't find any useful information.
Thank you.
They still make you sign a two year contract. I couldn't get around it. However, if a newer device comes out on Sprint, you should be able to upgrade immediately, provided you didn't buy through Sprint initially and have to wait for their upgrade.
Yeah they make you sign a contract. They also offer a prepaid option but the monthly rate is 45 with 1.5gb of 3g/4g. They also have daily and weekly plans. Think its like 15 foe day and 30 for week. I forget. I'm running on the monthly right now just to test it out.... works good so far.

Sprint sucks! I went to the store because I saw the news flash on prepaid. Store said they have no prepaid. I called sprint and they said no and transerred me to Boost, they offered it (wrong). Disconnected twice, then I called local boost store, only boost handsets can join.
I gave up and while playing with it last night, I found the prepaid option on the activation screen. I selected the month (daily and weekly were options) for 49.99 and and used my cc on the screen and 4G works pretty good.
I bought my View from ebay without contract. I called Sprint and after some haggling got on the $19.99 plan with no contract. They did however charge me an activation fee of $36 which I called later about and had it waived.
Like it so far and use it when I dont want to burn my Evo 3d's battery when tethering.
Also I have an upgrade available on this new line that I might use for an upgraded phone. That would mean a new contract though on that View line.
I tried to use the "Free Day" romo code but it would not work.
I wonder if a bad esn is to blame
http://reviews.ebay.com/BAD-ESN-Carrier-wont-activate-the-phone-What-2-Do?ugid=10000000007584227
Always better to call rather than go into the store for something that is outside of official policy. We are tracked on everything we do so unless it's an honest mistake the store usually won't do something like that.
Just call care and make a reasoned argument.. Be patient and calm and keep hanging up and calling back later till you get someone who will do it.
Otherwise you should be able to do the month to month option for 50... But I'm sure you can eventually get someone to do the 19.99 1gb plan with no contract. I haven't looked into how to do it as a customer so I will get back to you when I go back to work. Merry Christmas!
Edit: forgot to mention, if you get calls or texts rating the service, rate them as perfect and that they fixed your issue on the first call even if they can't. Not fair to penalize them for something they aren't supposed to do. Unless they are jerks, lol.

I also bought an Evo View from ebay. Today I went to Sprint and bought an iphone4S. Then I came home and moved my service over to the Evo View. (This won't work online- you have to use Sprint Zone on the tablet). Now I've got my Evo on a two year plan for $20/month and an iPhone I can sell.

I did this same exact thing. Worked great! The Sprint rep seemed a little confused at first when she asked me "what kind of a device are you transferring you iPhone 4S' service to?" Once I told her it was an HTC Evo View tablet, she witched it right over to a tablet plan.
I sold the iPhone on ebay for $530 which payed for the phone and the tablet.
Just make sure to tell the rep at the store not to open the iPhone! That way you can sell it sealed.
I'm trying to convince sprint to let me activate this thing without contract. So far I've talked to 3 or 4 different folks and nobody seems to want to budge. There's no way I'm signing a 2 year contract on this thing.. Anyone else had any luck?
Why bother lol. Just tether the flyer by usb cable or wifi hotspot from your smartphone. Works great.

After haggling with some reps I managed to get the 1gb plan month to month. Took some time but it's active with no contract. I am however going to cancel the service since I hardly use it to justify the fee.
This was back in mid December.

I just activated a Samsung Galaxy Tab with Sprint, and when they said there would be a contract, I told them I wasn't interested. The guy persisted, so I said "thanks anyway, but I'll pass." He then said he'd check with his supervisor, and after a couple minutes came back with the same story. I told him once again I wasn't interested in a 2 year contract and that I'd just forget about it. He said he'd try "one last time" with his supervisor or account services. At that point I knew I was in, and sure enough he came back on with an account services rep who explained that if I wanted to cancel I'd have to call and let them know, to not just abandon the service. No problem. So it is possible, you just have to be persistent and if at first you don't succeed, try again with another rep on another day.

Airwave upgrade

I thought you couldn't upgrade an Airwave but long story short I went to sprint to buy another phone and they wouldn't sell me one off contract due to store policy. But he said my Airwave had an upgrade and if I order the phone he would upgrade it without me changing phone numbers.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
is it a corprate store because if so that doesnt sound right they get payed commision for selling contracts and he might have been trying to swindle you
You can't upgrade an airave line. Since they have to give you a phone number to give you the device, yes it does show up on your account as another line. However, any rep with 1/10th of a percent of a brain will realize that it's an airave line, and thus cannot be used to upgrade a phone.
If they do upgrade your airave line, sprint will find out about it, and charge you the full amount of the phone.
No it wasnt corporate store. I ordered the phone said it would be there in about 3 days. He said they don't do it often but sometimes there are exceptions.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
This has been done many times before and there are threads about how to do it. Last I knew of, Sprint was buckling down and closing this loophole. But evidently it can still be done.
On a lot of accounts it shows a message that we can't upgrade airrave lines, but on others they haven't posted the note yet, my manager did one the other day
I just tried to do it at bestbuy.com and it will let me....but now idk, I'm having second thoughts since I'm not digging it that Sprint could catch on and bill me full retail when my regular line is eligible on June 1

I got an airrave couple months ago and notcied on my account that I could upgrade the line right away. This is on top of my current line with the evo3d having an upgrade credit right too. I tried to upgrade that Airrave line for a Nexus S but the store didn't have any in
Can someone who has done this confirm Sprint never charged full price later on? Additionally, it seems lime doing this makes you sign up for a data plan for that 'line'

I can confirm that as a customer there are no negative repercussions except the loss of any mail in rebates. They are systematically flagging accounts to warn reps not to do it, and threaten reps about doing it. But the risk is all on the reps side.
At what store would doing this upgrade be most successful at? Best buy or sprint store?

You can't upgrade an airave line. Since they have to give you a phone number to give you the device, yes it does show up on your account as another line. However, any rep with 1/10th of a percent of a brain will realize that it's an airave line, and thus cannot be used to upgrade a phone.
If they do upgrade your airave line, sprint will find out about it, and charge you the full amount of the phone.

I've upgraded my airwave line (more than once). Any poster with 1/10th of a percent of a brain will realize that they don't know everything.
I went into best buy and they didn't seem to be able to....however, on their website you can... I just need to figure out how to not sign up for a data plan...

I know people who have had it done at Radio Shack. The reality is, you need a rep who knows what the Eff they are doing.

I've always just signed up for the data plan in store (Radio Shack) and then later taken it off when I did the ESN swap back to the Airwave.
What did you have to say to sprint to take the data plan off? I guess I'm basically looking for a step by step... Thanks bro

I didn't say anything. I just reactivated my Airwave ESN. I didn't even wait a few days. Activated the phone at Radio Shack. Called from a 3rd device and did the ESN swaps.

Idea to get the $37 activation charge waived..

I'm sure many of you, like myself, are sick of paying the $37 activation phone every time you upgrade your phone.
Well I just had an idea, to maybe, perhaps, get the fee waived.
What if we just go to Sprint/Bestbuy, use the upgrade to buy the phone.. and then tell them NOT to activate it?
THEN.. once you're home, call Spring from your device and say "hey, I just bought a new phone that I'd like to use on my account please" (like how you would do with a phone bought from Craigslist.)
Since they don't charge you anything for swapping phones, maybe they won't charge you here either?
What do you guys think?

Impossible. No such thing as a $37 activation fee.
Impossible. If you buy at BestBuy they have to activate it for you.

I believe they have to activate it in the store. Not certain, but I'm pretty sure that's a requirement. Also, I ordered min thru telesales and i was informed it came with a free activation! Maybe they can do something for you

would that work though? Because your account may have been flagged once the phone is shipped/picked up that there is an upgrade pending. When you call in to sprint for 'swapping' they might see that its a new model and charge regardless.
Your plan might work though. That's what I was planning to do just pick it up from BB and call when I'm home. I didnt know you have to activate it there.

I'm 100% certain you don't have to activate in the store because last time I used 2 upgrades to get the Evo 3D and the Galaxy SII (Epic Touch or whatever), and I never got the Galaxy activated. I just sold it on Craigslist immediately.
Unless of course.. they changed it in the last half a year or so.

Best Buy won't sell you a $550 phone for $200 just because they are so nice. They get commissions from Sprint that cover the difference and few bucks for the store. In order to get commissions, they need to extend contract and activate the phone with their dealer code. So, activating the equipment is a requirement. If someone lets you walk away without activating a phone, they just made $400 mistake.
I think I may be able to clear this up. Anytime you upgrade with Sprint at a third party retailer (Radio Shack, Best Buy, Sprint Indirect Retailer, etc) they will use a system called SNAP.
In SNAP, when an upgrade is processed a $36 upgrade fee is automatically triggered on the account, or at time of purchase if it is ordered. This cannot be waived manually by any rep. The system just forces it. Whether the phone is activated or not, your still going to get charged the fee.
For example, if you ever order a device from a Sprint Indirect dealer and have the phone shipped to your house and never activate, you will still get that upgrade fee. Even if you were to throw that phone in the river as soon as UPS hands it over to you and never active it, ever.
So: the actual activation of the device does not warrant the upgrade fee, the fact of you using your upgrade and resigning the 2 year agreement does. Thats why it is officially called an "upgrade" fee. An activation fee is when you initially sign up with Sprint.
Hope that helps.
I called Sprint retention department recently before I preordered from Amazon and asked them specifically about the activation fee and she was willing to waive it for me. What she did tell me though was they could not pre-emptively waive it. It needs to go through and to charged to my account first, then I can call in again and have them take it off.

Hate to break it to you, but this will NOT work. The reason you can swap other phones w/o charge is that they have been active on atleast one other account prior to yours. I can tell you this from exp I fought them on 3 fees for a week due to this. The phone had been on a friends account prior. now if you were to buy it from CL or Ebay, after it has been active on another acct first then you would not be charged.

this is spot on and worded perfectly. Also, Bestbuy now uses BEAST only for processing new activations and upgrades instead of SNAP (i believe to track margin) but still has access to SNAP for other changes.

You want to avoid the activation fee here is how. Buy the phone at full price, or ebay price from a reseller. Once you get the phone go on your Sprint account and do the online activation.
If you want that $199 price you are going to pay the activation fee, it'll get charged to your bill.
Open a credit union account, credit union discount waives activation fee.

I called and asked them to waive it due to the delay in shipping, and they did
I called in account services as recommended else where in this thread.
What they offered me was a credit equal to the base rate - my employee discount if I extended the contract for another year. This extension is for the contract only and does not affect my equipment upgrade dates. Once I do upgrade the equipment, the date then gets pushed back another year from the time of activation (so the usual 24 months after activation). I only have one line with them with a MRC of $69.99+10 (no discount on the $10 though). I still have ~6 months on my current contract too.
I decided to go ahead with the offer since they're still the cheapest around here, and hopefully once lte roll out is completed, data will improve too. This credit cancels out the activation fee and a little more.
ymmv, but at this point I think they'll be making concessions to most customers, even those who in the past may not have qualified.

That was my plan after I got my phone. Ask for a refund due to the hassle. Shouldn't be too difficult to get someone to credit it.
i dont pay activation fees. its part of my corp. discount w/ accenture.
it doesnt matter where i buy the phone. i got an evo3d via amazon 1 cent sale and a second one at radio shack for 49.99. they didnt even attempt to add it to my bill. the guy at radio shack mentioned it, but when i got the bill, there was no fee.
some others offer this too. aaa for example.

This is a good idea but if you have worked for Sprint you know that just placing the phone on the account will generate that $36. It's just labeled an activation fee. It literally takes nothing to activate a phone. Just a simple "hey let me use your connection" from your phone to the Sprint Network and then Sprint replies with a "well let me make sure your on an account via your dec number" then boom! the phone is connected.
that though sadly is not what generates the fee its the simple act of placing the phone on an account. Seriously go buy a phone via upgrade then dont activate it till after you recieve your bill. you will still see that fee on there even though your phone is still in the box. (not that anyone will do this) haha
Whenever you purchase a new phone that has never been activated before, you ALWAYS pay a one time activation fee. After that you can swap it from phone number to number and you will no pay it again. Is a one time thing.(I called Sprint twice and both reps said the same thing)
I just got my fee waived via a "promotional" discount the CS rep said they had. Not sure if that's true. I also used some info found in Ramit Sethi's scripts. Worth a call or two to get it waived.
I ordered my phone online, activated it online, and was still hit with the activation fee. Their bullsh!t excuse when I emailed them wad that they have to do such things to keep the subsidized prices on the phones low... to which I replied that I paid full MSRP and if I had bought it second hand, there'd be no activation fee. I concluded saying that I may never buy a phone through Sprint again. It has been escalated and I've been playing phone tag with someone higher up. I'll post back with how it turns out.
