[Q] Anyway to allow Spen to operate the 4 buttons on the bottom? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Self explanatory. Dumb maybe but it's quite aggravating when using the pen to have to also use my fingers....
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA

Nope, different technologies, I'm pretty sure that's why they added the button on the stylus with gestures.

I agree that it is pretty annoying. It's not so bad once you train yourself to use the button on the pen and swipe. It just takes lots of practice to break the habit of using the capacitive buttons when using the pen.

use the button on pen and up down left and right perform all cap button functions

Yep. You can use gestures as you would use the menu buttons.

Cool beans!!!!! I too thought it was really dumb to have to use fingers for 4 lower buttons, but I guess I was wrong....again!!!

Yes there is a way to make it work. Get a capacitive stylus and take the tip off and glue it to the S-Pen.

Where can we find about all the gestures for the pen?

To see a demo of the gestures in Gingerbread it's Settings > Pen Settings > Pen Help
There's a bunch of YouTube videos available that demo the s pen gestures as well. Here's one that walks through most of them:

What tablet mode? Does that require a new ROM install?

When you have ICS ROM, you can use on-screen buttons instead of capacitive buttons...

open your app drawer and hit the menu button. then select edit. it will have you change your view type to customizable grid. that will allow you to drag **** down there. don't forget to hit menu again and save afterwards.

Ics mockups

I thought ics was not supposed to have dedicated capacitive buttons, however most of the mockups seem to have this. If that part of the phone is changed to additional screen size, or better yet outright removed, it's a totally different experience.

face palm.
also, what are they supposed to do with a phone who's hardware was not built around ICS? is the UI supposed to have buttons built into it on top of the buttons on your EVO 3D? seriously man, come on.
Can someone please close this thread. From lame to super lame in four posts.
Fun fact: adding on screen buttons to a 4.5 inch device leaves you with about 4.3 inches of extra space.
So unless you are going to go crazy without an extra fifth of an inch when the on screen buttons are off, you shouldn't worry about it.

Definitely useful. Not as awesome as "Just Type" on WebOS, but that's also not really an OS anymore. There's a lot of little bits of WebOS in ICS.

For us Rezound users, the search soft key serves the same purpose. This makes the search bar is ridiculously redundant and also clutters your home screen.

It takes up a lot less screen space. It's a little difficult in portrait mode(if you have big fingers), but in landscape it's perfect!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Thanks for the heads up. However I was running at 280dpi and the Portrait KB is tooo small. Back to 320 for me. I am still running GB ROM - does ICS fix this issue?
I like using it with the SPen. Really accurate and leaves so much more space open for conversations and such.

I felt the same, as I am running at 240 dpi. While typing can be tedious, swyping works great. I have kept in spite of the small portrait keyboard as I still feel I am able to 'type' faster.
Love this one. Swype really needs a small area to be most effective (for me). And for use in the car one-handed, this is awesome. Might be nice if we could switch back and forth from the phone version to the tablet version.

Spacing nav icons

Any idea on button spacing? I'd like to have the back button and the rescents button closer to the edge and tweaksbox only does height and width

I used to use an app called gmd autohide softkeys. You can set it up any way you want. You'll need to disable the stock navbar. I figured ide better get used to some stock stuff cause everytime I get a new phone I have to use multiple apps to get it the way I like. Center clock is one of those things I can't live without.
