[Q] Facebook renaming Google contacts - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone know how to sort the problem of Facebook (and Skype) renaming contacts on my phone?
When you join a Facebook contact up with a Google contact it will choose the Facebook name over the Google contact name in my contacts list.
For example:
Google contact name: Joe Bloggs
Facebook name: Joe RandomName
It would then rename my correct Joe Bloggs to Joe RandomName in on my phone contacts.
It is driving me mad. It does not make the change when I log into Google contacts online as it still shows as Joe Bloggs but not on phone.
Surely you should be able to choose the correct Google name over some random Facebook name. Damn Touchwiz

No need to be abusive!
This is a forum where people ask questions. I did perform a search and found no answer hence my question - I have been on this forum since 2007 so I know how it works.
Furthermore, your response was useless. I am well aware that I don't have to sync my contacts with Facebook but I want to for many reasons.
And, whilst you are on the subject of giving me tips on how to use this forum please use proper English and not abbreviated text / SMS type chat that a 10 year old would use. This would help when people like me are searching for answers to such questions.
Thank you and have a good day!

That is some good advice since I know how hard searching can be. For example one time I was searching for info I know was in one of the 12,000+ post rom threads a month after I read it. I searched for over a hour in that thread but never found it becuase the person had bad spelling and abbreviations.
How bad is that when I know for a fact the info in on this forum in a specific post but can't find it because I am not capable of remembering the persons atrocious spelling.
That is just one example of the many searches that have failed because of the same problem.

Take the pacifier out of your mouth and use your brain. Too many noobs asking the same repetitive questions that are easily found by searching a single word, backup.

The "Reply All" function in SMS

Sorry in advance if this has specifically been addressed. Doing a quick search didn't seem to cover it.
And I started an exact thread over in the Inspire 4G General forum, not knowing where to post it. As I understand, this would be a better place to post this question.
Is it possible for the experts here in XDA to write something into Android's code to allow for a Reply All feature in SMS, like in iPhone's SMS? I'm thinking the Reply All feature must be unfixable because there is conversations all over the internet for people requesting Google to fix it. Some have even stayed with Apple because they would miss that feature too much.

There are 3rd party apps working on this. Only google will be able to add the function to the default and to be honest it doesn't seem high on the list
Scroll to the bottom - some hope it seems..

Thanks for the link. Hopefully this gets put into Google's basic code and baked into Android.
Questions should be asked in Q&A forums, not Development forums.
Thread moved.

Indeed this supposedly is put into AOSP JB 4.2 ROM's natively now. I just hope I can get a ROM for my Inspire, but if not, at least it'll be there for future and some present phones.

[Q] Where is the Search Function?

Is it just me or did the search function on the XDA site suddenly disappear? I wanted to find something in a very large thread this morning, and the search function is gone. I checked a few other threads; gone from those too.
So, if people are constantly complaining that other people aren't searching threads for answers before asking questions......but there is no search function....how is that going to work?

[Q] Need Code to Unlock the screen

Hi,
XDA
So, here the problem comes.... :?:
I am developing an sensor based app to unlock & lock device using sensors. But, Unfortunately I am unable to find any code to UNLOCK the screen programmatically. I have searched over Google & other Android Development sites too.
Then, too I didn't find any solution.I already had thorough search but no hopes.
Tried various codes like WAKELOCK but they eat tremendous battery & I needed to recharge by Phone periodically. :!:
Also, WindowManager too but i think it doesn't work with Service.
Then, KeyGuardManager it bypasses LockScreen but doesn't activate screen
Hope, Any one can help me
Thanks in advance.
Please, Someone help

XDA Rules .
5. Post a message only once.
As a large forum we don't need unnecessary clutter, You're free to edit your message as you like, so if you do not receive an answer revisit your message and see if you can describe your problem better. Not everyone is online at the same time, it might take a while before you receive an answer.
so you didn't find the rule that allows bumping? because I did.

Hi !
You made an account to ask where can you find a certain app when you can easily use the search function of this forum or, if nothing comes up , Google search .
From our Forum rules
1. Search before posting.
Use one of our search functions before posting or creating a new thread. Whether you have a question or just something new to share, it's very likely that someone has already asked that question or shared that news
