[30.5.2012]***READ THIS*** ★★★Operation Clean-Up★★★ A message to the REZOUND users!
After getting assigned to this forum yesterday, I handled my first report. It was to clean up a thread that had off-topic and disrespecting posts. I thought I would delete maximum 10 posts, but I ended up at 93 posts!
After looking at other threads, I saw that most of the users have misunderstood the meaning of the android development threads. In the threads people SHALL discuss the ROMs, what's working and what's not working. The threads are not there to discuss other users and their actions.
Operation Clean-Up
After talking to my Moderator friends, we decided that the whole Rezound - Android forum needs cleaning.
I will from this day go trough the threads in android-dev and clean up off-topic and other posts that are breaking the rules.
Under the process of the cleaning, the thread will have a "thread closed for cleaning" picture at the first page and I will leave a post containing the link to this thread.
I ask all of you to keep reporting off-topic/posts that are breaking the rules, because going trough over 200 threads will take a while, so reporting will speed up the process.
Lets keep the forums clean and let the development continue
YZ.

Update
Just to make one thing clear, the purpose of this "cleanup" is not to make the forums change to a dictator looking thing... But to make the threads clean.
Remember, off-topic posts in Android-Dev threads turns to disrespectful and flaming posts.
You can of course post how happy you are about the rom and that you appreciate the work by the dev, but if you agree with a user's post, there's no need for a post saying "+1". Just hit the thanks button
If you're bored and absolutely have to post something off-topic, head over to the off-topic thread which was made for the rezound users.
Don't like the thread? PM me your off-topic post. I don't have anything against a little conversation between a user

[ANNOUNCEMENT]Please read regarding FLAMING and POSTING IN THE WRONG SECTION

Aight look. We have a Q&A section now, and I ask that all questions be posted in that section. This is a well known rule, and a simple one to boot.
But, that isn't what this thread is about. No, this thread is about FLAMING OTHER USERS FOR POSTING IN THE WRONG SECTION. Simply put, the amount of flaming that goes on for people posting in the wrong section is ASTOUNDING.
From this point on(4/16/2011) any and all threads that are flame wars will be closed, and the people doing the flaming will be issued infractions. These will all start as yellow cards, IE warnings that expire and do not go against your profile. If you continue to flame, they will escalate to red cards, which DO go against your profile and CAN and WILL lead to a ban, which may be permanent.
I honestly do not want to be posting this thread. But this has just gone too far.
IF someone posts in the wrong section, a polite "please post in the correct section", a short answer and a report to me is all that is required and expected. Please note that when you report a post it goes to me and the senior moderators and administrators. I have also made it so that I will now receive PM's directly to my phone so that I can get things resolved faster.
If you go into a thread that is in the wrong section, and the OP has already been told this, DO NOT add to the post, rather send me a PM with the link/info or click the REPORT POST button.
To the point folks-the flaming is out of control. I am partly to blame for enforcing that questions be posted in the Q&A section and completely realize this, but in order to keep this forum clean the Q&A rule will remain to be a rule.
This thread is closed. If you have any comments or concerns regarding this matter, please PM me.
Thanks-saur.
I have moved this thread to the top of the Stickies to give it some much deserved extra attention.

OPERATION:IRON FIST is now in effect

As was announced last week, Operation:Iron Fist is in full effect. Read about it here.
With that being said, the following will begin to happen:
1. All non-development threads started in the Development section will be moved to the appropriate section and/or closed and the "responsible" poster (in quotes because the fact they posted in the wrong section clearly brings into question whether or not they are responsible) will be infracted.
2. Any abusive posts directed at any user will be deleted and the abuser will be infracted and/or given a temporary vacation. Multiple instances will result in a longer leave-of-absence, and if it continues you will be removed from XDA. You, and your behavior, are not welcome at XDA.
3. Any off-topic posts in the Development section threads will be deleted. These are non-helpful, and certainly not development posts. This includes the following:
"OMG THIS IS SO GREAT!"
"WOW! YOU ROCK AND I WANT TO HAVE YOUR BABIES!"
"THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER!"
"THANKS FOR THIS!"
If you want to thank someone for their work, do so by clicking the "THANKS" button on their post.
4. Any post, in any section, that is done to further post count will be deleted and you will face possible infraction.
5. Anything else that goes against the XDA Forum Rules and XDA Mantra will be dealt with firmly, but fairly.

New Member Post Restriction

Hello and greetings, this is my first post.
I've been reading these forums for quite a while and I own a Note II. I have followed a discussion in the OAD forums, including flashing a new rom, and have run the rom for a month now. I am simply having some trouble with a couple of aspects that haven't been addressed in the thread. I wish to solicit advice from the community.
Unfortunately, I cannot post because of the following rule:
-
Please Read: New members (those with fewer than 10 posts) are not permitted to post to development-related forums. The developer forums are intended for experienced users and developers to discuss ways to improve technical aspects related to ROMs and Software. While you may be an expert, we ask ALL users to avoid posting questions about using or installing ROMs and software in the Development Forums. To encourage this new Users can read but not post in these forums.
To ask Questions about developing your device, installing ROMs, software and themes you must go to the Q&A or General Forum.
Remember, your question has very likely been asked already, so please search before posting.
-
As I am reading this, particularly the 'fewer than 10 posts' part, I am thinking something like, 'but I am a computer expert'. And then I reach this part, which addresses what I feel I am directly:
While you may be an expert, we ask ALL users to avoid posting questions about using or installing ROMs and software in the Development Forums. To encourage this new Users can read but not post in these forums.
It's an interesting thing to ask when most of the discussions in the forum I cannot post to directly involve 'using or installing ROMs'. It definitely allows me to avoid posting questions about my particular interest. Instead I need to write ten posts, and this is the first. I don't know.. is this rule really necessary? Should I make nine crap posts so I can get around to talking about what I want to talk about, and joining what is already a burgeoning discussion? Should I just.. leave? Or should I chill out?
Maybe post your questions in the Q&A sections? Just a thought....

I would find the forum for your rom and ask the question there. You can ask a question in a thread already created just not create a new one.

Yeah I am restricted to many things due to not posting and it makes me not able to make post to help even though I've been a member for a little while now
damned, i am restricted toooooo

i completely agree, this makes it so a large percentage of people who have questions cannot ask the people they want, cannot give bug reports and causes all sorts of problems. i can download a rom but cannot contribute at all to any issues, so i guess i can just make random posts in random topics( like the trolls you seek to weed out would no doubt do) but i havent biothered. its a stupid rule and the devs should be the most angry about this but i doubt they are aware that we have to go to other non devs to sort out the issues.
@coma73 Random posts and junk posts will be deleted, setting you back to your starting point. The moral of this story, follow the rules and all will be well; create junk/spam/random posts and be forever stuck with post limitations. We do check. Kinda funny, because that's how I stumbled into this thread.
In any event, we have the General and Q&A sections of the forums for you to read, learn, and ask any questions you may have. Most ROM's will have a Q&A thread already available, usually posted in (wait for it....) the Q&A forum, these are readily available for you to post your questions, comments, bug reports and feedback. If you're still stuck, there are many members here that would be willing to post on your behalf in a particular development thread.
We encourage members to utilize the resources at hand and the rules are pretty clear about why and the intention behind the post limitations. If you are unable to come up with 10 posts that are not junk/spam/random, you don't belong here any way.
I stumbled across the same issue and it's really annoying. I'm not an inexperienced user in any way, been using custom roms for 2 years and just want to give some constructive feedback to a custom rom I'm using which does NOT have a Q&A thread.

There are a lot of inexperienced users who post pretty easy questions across the boards. It won't take long to get up/past 10 posts if you respond to a few of those. Helpful for them to to benefit from your experience.

In this instance a post in general forums is sufficient.
This has been argued time and time again, fought tooth and nail, and it will not change. It helps far more than you guys realize.
Is it honestly that difficult to come up with ten non spam posts? I mean really, you find a bug and post about it in general forums, there's one.
A question? Q&A forums, there's two...
I had to do it, every developer here had to do it, hell, every member posting in development had to do it. It is not that hard.
So put on your big boy pants, quit complaining, and just post.
The rules still apply, and anything spam or completely useless will be deleted.
On that note, this thread is closed.
