ICS running out of memory - Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Pro

I have a problem when I watch flash videos and surf many websites, ics kills the browser and the launcher. Is there a way to fix that issue.
Using JJs hybrid from v2.2 but had that issue with Ka and I-Scream rooms. I didn't have that problem with stock GB rom.

Maybe you don't use it as much as he.
Try opening few tabs in browser, then minimize it and open chat program, or some other program, root explorer or something simple as that. Then go back to browser, you will be lucky if all your tabs are still there
As sdk16420 said, ICS is more hungry than GB, and that is a fact. If someone use phone his phone lite, chances that he will notice that are smaller.

yeah there is a point, i use my phone only for daily use, fb, twitter, whatsapp, play some games watch on XDA through my phone, make some pic, nothing else, and clean always the cache after that, i have tons of games but no losing memory to nothing, so the problems is indeed by that guy itself, no bad meaning ofcourse and what sdk16420 said, my stock ICS is not slow for sure but yes i supercharged it and it runs smooth, fine and fast.

HTC Desire C
Check the specs of HTC Desire C this phone comes with ICS
As you'll see below, the catalog also sheds some light on the specs of the device. Here's what we have confirmed for now: The HTC Desire C has a 3.5-inch screen with 320x480 resolution and runs on a 600MHz processor. Connectivity-wise it's 3.5G, whatever that means, but we're guessing it's HSDPA. The handset also has 4GB of internal memory and a 5MP camera. But most importantly, this low-spec'd device will run Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

If this phone can handle ics then Neo shouldn't have any problems handling ICS whatsoever.
Source

@Tenacius D:it's not questionable can it run, but how good can it run
Neo V can run it, but it runs it so sad and slow, at least in case Sony stock ICS
Actually CPU is not so important in story, RAM's are.
Weaker CPU will get the job done, but (a bit) slower, lesser RAM will get your apps killed in the background.
I would prefer 500Mhz with 1GB ram's, than 1.5Ghz quad core and 512MB ram's but that's just me

Madfysh I agreed with you more ram better multitasking but CM9 and aokp are prof that ics can run better on our phone apps are lighter on memory and hardware is better utilized sony can also do this but they don't wanna waste resource on last year phones.

I have also faced this issue when I installed the official ICS ROM on my NEO. Can anyone suggest a viable solution?
BTW, I have officially unlocked my boot loader now (I hope) and I hope to use some other ROM out there and see their performance.
And, as far as RAM is concerned, I have a Galaxy S and it has only 512 MB RAM and it runs ICS very nicely (stock AOSP).

Not a good idea to just keep making new threads, and you haven't confirmed the last one yet
Also it's slow coz the phones old and Sony put huge Rom in it use a cm or kang a 100 meg Rom

For me,stock Sony rom doesn't look ****ty at all.I've tried almost all custom roms, and I've returned back to stock.I'm using Apex Launcher instead of Sony launcher and few apps from Xperia S including ported lockscreen and it's smooth almost like Polish Blood rom.I don't know how it behaves in games because i'm not using it for gaming, but overall it is very smooth. And i'm getting the best battery life with stock rom and Alliance Kernel v1.4

I'm not saying it's ****ty, the stock ROM is really beautiful. That's the only right thing Sony managed to do right with their ROM. Other than that there is a ****load of bloatware on it. And I very much doubt that you can have a LWP, a few apps running in the background on the phone and still have more than 100MB of free RAM. That's what amazes me about the Polish Blood ROM. But then again, different people, different preferences
Look at Samsung they have not given ics to any single core devices...
Yes Sony stock Rom had its share of bugs but the devs are trying to correct it and Sony themselves are updating our phone again for the 3rd time....
LG has still not given ics to optimus black and 2x and Sony has given it to entire 2011 series....
In that respect Sony is great....
Don´t know...i´m using JJ hybrid for quite some time now...but i think its time to try CM or another one..
I think ICS is actually smoother than GB, just hav some comp problems and sony fills the rom with bloatware.. but not even close as motorola do!
And tried JB alpha... still really unstable and buggy...but its blazing fast and the butter thing is true( just had to use force gpu rendering)
Sometimes lag of the homescreen depends on the amount of widgets you are using. Right now I am using stock with stock kernel, it is not as smooth as polish blood ics but all features like hdmi and wireless tethering works. For gamming I will choose polish blood ics.
I tried a xperia ray with latest update and feels smoother, we should be getting the same update soon.

Rooting as such won't help get rid of Lag ! But rooting gives you the gateway to flash custom Roms and get rid of the lag you have no stock Rom!
Take a read of the sticky threads in dev section and general!
Then you can proceed and incase you get stuck up,you can always ask!

Try to install the latest version as it improved the power management... I used SEEDER to reduce lag of my note 2 (actually I just want to make sure it performs the best speed without lag, without using it my phone works fine). :-
For the battery drain issue, I used One Power Guard, which I tested before, it does reduce the power usage (Got a very good result during deep sleep, and daily usage... usually without using it, my battery drains at least 7% after whole night, while using it, my battery only drains about 3% the most!)
TRY AGAIN (IF IT DOESN'T WORK FOR YOU I AM SO SORRY...)
MY BEST RECOMMENDATION IS FLASH A CUSTOM ROM (less bloatwares and tweeked for maximum performance) AND CUSTOM KERNEL (better RAM management and other stuffs which will help to improve stability of your phone, including battery saving). DO SOME UNDERVOLTING... IT WILL HELP...

I'm on stock .631, I experienced this too, IMHO seeder doesn't helps on my side still i noticed lags and slowdowns in the phone.
You know what i did? flash a custom Kernel(i had the BL unlocked), the tigris kernel by bootbu9, flash the the latest adreno libs(thank you Saingpor for helping me :highfive: ) and remove bloatwares. Now the phone seems fluid and responsive, no more lags maybe just a little bit but not always the same as before, since i use my phone normally(no games) I just OC at 245min and 1018max with smartassv2 governor and NOOP scheduler. Now my phone operates as i wanted it to be.
I have installed betterbatterystats, system panel, cpu cpy app to monitor the phones power usage. Battery and standby varies, it mainly depends on how the user uses the phone, apps installed on it so for me IMHO there is no such thing as battery saver app(sometimes they only just cause wakelocks on my experience). Just do the basics, manually switch off wifi, BT when not in use, adjust the brightness(i uncheck the adapt to lighting conditions - light sensor), turn on airplane mode if you want to keep your phone away or simply turn the phone off if you really want to save power, Turn off 3g and or background data if its not neccessry, etc. In this way you really can save your phones battery power.

GB or JB For Neo V?

I've tried a lot of GB and JB ROMs presented here on XDA. Very early on I decided to skip ICS, and so I cannot comment on ICS ROMs.
All of the JB ROMs I've tried (I have tried most but not every single one available here though) have given me problems one way or the other after heavy use. The common problems I've encountered are apps freezing, phone hanging and freezing and random reboots. My greatest fear is the phone closing down on me when I need it most. A reboot will solve all problems but don't think this is ideal. I'm trying out 1 last JB ROM (16 hours till now) and so far it has not displayed the problems I mentioned.
I really like the looks and functionalities of JB but I think I will have to return to GB if I want a 100% stable phone. Would like to hear comments and advice from those who have experimented with both GB and JB on their single-core phones. Thank you.

Anyways @OP I'd not suggest any Rom in particular as you've tried many
But GB ROMS are supposed to be smoother atleast on our device and you may very well know the reason why it is so....
According to me, frankly such threads have no point as people state their opinions and support or favour a particular Rom and often some people go against this and results in an ugly quarrel! So next time, just avoid it and take these tips or advices on a casual note!

I guess I want to know what most ppl are using on their single-core cpu phones. So I welcome any and all comments. I've not had much luck with JB ROMs but it seems most developers here have moved on to ICS/JB. There aren't very many current GB ROMs available apart from Codename (as far as I know). Even Codename may end at X (current version) according to Emann. I'm still trying out one last JB ROM and if that doesn't work out I guess I'll be going back to GB.

I had been trying out my last JB ROM for 2 days and I was really liking it. I did a lot of travelling yesterday and all the time I was playing Subway Surfers. The game ran smooth the whole time and I thought the ROM was to be a keeper. When I got home last night the battery only had 30% remaining. So I charged it while I had a bath. After a couple hours it was fully charged. So I removed the charging cable and thought I'd resume Subway Surfers. For some reason the game was very laggy. Rebooted the phone and the game was still very laggy. I always seem to have problems with JB ROMs after a few days of use. I know a lot of people have gone weeks on JB ROMs and their phone are still smooth and fast. Don't know what I'm doing wrong. Anyway I have now gone back to GB.

All that is lacking is HDMI and 720p recording, for which i dont care!!

Just follow all instructions here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2108632
if you want a ics or nxt themed rom why dont try gin2jellybean rom or mine (brabus nxt). there are a lot visual modifications

Pls develope Gb with Jb style or JellyBread

Hi, I instal Gb and its incredible fast! But i want Jb interface. Developers can you please build the perfect gb rom with jb syle? thnx!!

Why don't you just add in everything you like from JB. Lockscrens, widgets, launchers are all easy to find in play store. Also themes and customisations are easy to add. Just use xposed framework.

Xperia P has only two custom roms :\\\\\\\\ on xda ....and there is not any working gb theme cca ics/jb style........ need rom, no playstore.
I love GB too (much faster, and stable than JB and ICS) I like the custom rom based in stock. So i can't use KitKat for this moment . There is 0 MOD for GB (locksreen, framework, etc) and just one custom ROM with GB theme -_- (developement stoped) unfortunately, i love too GB

Why do you want GB? Its not much faster then JB and also KitKat is super smooth and its still a nightly.

Gb is faster then ICS and JB tougether! Gb is fluid, much more free ram!! incredible fast! (XperiaSSpeed KA02, with SSpeedkernel v4) But its little ugly and need little refreshments cca ICS/JB notification bar style, xperia z lockscreen and settings.
Own comparison:
- ROM 2.3.7. XperiaSSpeed KA02, with SSpeedkernel v4
- with the same applications installed:
Gb: 24h on phone(without restart) - constant 500-580 free ram SPACE SUTHLE FLUID
ICS 24h on phone(without restart) - constant 350-400 free ram FLUID
JB 24h on phone(without restart) - constant 190-240 free ram MORE FLUID THAN ICS
Kitkat ram??? i think that sucks. Why force the new version of ROMs, when there is no lot of free memory? developers are wasting a time.
Xperia U has a lot custom GB roms. I want GB roms on Xperia P :\\\\\
PLEase Developers I (we) just want better kernel, new notification bar and settings. Thats it! ))))
IAmNice said:
What are you serious ? There is over 400+ free ram in kitkat. Even with lots of apps installed.
Also more ram is not better!

So why you dont flash a JB Custom rom ?
Just believe me JB is better so please domt to long on GB because now there alot more mods for JB then for GB and ICS

I tested all custom ROMs in JB (Moonwalker too ) ok, in custom rom, it's faster than GB stock ROM. But i said the Stock JB rom is slower than GB stock, so if you try to make a GB custom, it will going faster than JB custom. By the way, GB is the most stable in Xperia P Stable than JB and ICS.
I used GB before, and delet system app that i don't need, like playnow, and others. I had an awesome score in Antutu Benchmark (Between 13000 and 14000) without touch to the scripts, or any other, just make more free ram

pls try ROM 2.3.7. XperiaSSpeed KA02, with SSpeedkernel v4, and you will feel diference.
XperiaSSpeed KA02 GB is ugly, but incredible speed!! needs more development to be a perfect rom like estetic, like more speed.
and btw JB sucks with dialer lag... and speed is not in tweaks, speed is in free ram.
i repeat i use same apps.. exp on moonwalker 5.5 and on XperiaSSpeed KA02. -moonalker cca 240-290mb free ram+lagy dialer, -XperiaSSpeed KA02 cca 490-520mb.

No why i should back to GB if i enjoy my own JB rom Moonwalker v6
I think the development of XperiaSSpeed KA2 is stopped !!
Well JB dont suck and about dialer lag, we cant nothing do about that but Sony must work on that (told so many times)
But you can play withsome governors and I/O scheduler like hotplugsX on noop and no dialer lag for me on nemesis 6.3 !!
But why compare my rom with a GB rom??
There a huge difference in those 2 roms so its nonsense what you say now and also with comparing.
Well if you are happy with a GB rom, flash that then and keep hang on the oldies

i do'nt understand, Moonbreaker, moonwalker, honami, and other things, and you said "i love my moonwalker why i must change ?" so why you create all this ?? Me too i'm in Enigma and Nemesis and i love that, but when i see another rom, i go test this Innovating man ^^not with something new necessary, but by make something who no one try to do it ^^ (Custom GB for exemple ^^)

well i mean i love my own rom because it fits me better and i test also other roms !
well why start this ??
i start none and i dont start this thread but now this thread turns into a discussion thread !
ok happy for you to hear that you enjoying enigma
well what i wanna say is that GB is old and no one want to mod it into z1 for example with z1 stuff !
you understand me now ?
no one ? no, but it's a minority, and im sure if someone test this, this minority will increase but i understand you. And i said i love Enigma, not Enigma is better than Moonwalker, not at all. I can't do 1/4 what you are doing man. If i knowed that i make my proper rom GB Custom So GG for your jobs.

pls tell me advantage of the xperia P custom stock JB??
my review custom stock jb:
- slow dialing numbers (dialer)
- answer lag
- calling lag
- slow response apps
- contact scroiling lag (right animation letters)
- lower max volumen of the sound
this are the basic functions that are supposed to work!! If those do not work then there is no point in having JB on XP
I repeat:
On GB i have the same apps, i do same things, but rom is fluid and fast response. ..and 420free ram without killing base apps.
I would like to be on JB. but i dont like word ''slow''.
You are wasting a time with devJB.
..................
......
So pls dev, pls understand me.
Pls develope GB. Xperia P has only one stock custom base GB rom! its a SHAME!

well this is my mean about a JB custom rom to you:
- there is not lag in dialing if you flash a custom kernel
like no answer lag !
- no slow respond of apps for me on JB
the app creators must optimize it for JB
- also no lag in scrolling contacts
- there are sound mods and tweaks to make the sound louder
Well i just wonder if you test even a JB custom rom on an unlocked bootloader with a custom kernel... i guess not !!
i am wasting my time on my own JB custom rom ??
come on dude -_-
If you want so badly a GB custom rom then why you dont built one by you own instead of begging if someone can do that?
i never turn back to GB so it will not happen
========================
End of the story for GB for me !

first i have a xperia p with locked boot loader, and i sold and buy another one Xp with unlocked bootloader. I thought that the problem will be solved with unlocked BL. With unlocked BL on xp is much better, because you can instal custom kernel. But the main problem like dialer is not solved + slow response apps after half-one day use phone. I think... reason is in the poor ram speed. exp Samsung S2 has twice more speed of ram. (antutu benchmark)
I try yours honami 4,5,5.5,6 &7, also try enigma jb and lot other JB in the hope that it will be better.
I'm in android world cca 5years. I regularly instal custom roms. And that custom roms was working properly. i have been complitly satisfied.
I had xperia U(boot unlock)). Also i was use all custom roms... I can say that ICS on XU is like JB on XP. Same feeling, slow response, lag.
What I can say? XP is beautiful design piece of art. But inside is little unusable garbage. Sony fu_k upd with their own kernel.. There is no salvation. because I say that you are waisting a time with JB.
I currently use GB custom. It have a speed like -perfect balance CM 10.1 -not in benchmark, but much more fluide in daily use.
So, will sold Xp, like i sold Xu from the same reason. i have to mention that I realy enjoj in custom roms in Xperia Arc S.
Will buy Samsung. I have to say Sony goodbay forever.

you didn't understand what i tell!
I like Sony, my first phone was sony j5/z5, but sony sucks in xperia world. SE had better support.
In this time Samsung is the best phone with huge support.. Sony- I dont wanna have a gb on newer smartphone in jB era! so my resion is clearly correct.
