Bad audio in videos - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it just me or is the sound quality in videos recorded by the sgs3 very bad? The video samples looks great but the sound is not good.

From the video from GSM Arena i must say its a pretty good sound, it has a good noise cancelation that may be causing the sound to be lower but to be that is just great.

I'm referring to the sound quality in the videos recorded by the sgs3. It seems like the sound is very thin.
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_iii_vs_htc_one_x-review-759p6.php
The HOX seems much fuller/natural. It seems like Samsung is missing how important sq is for video. The sound on the SGS2 wasn't very good, either.

Sorry...didn't know this was a high-def video camera. LOL
The one thing people seem to be missing is that this is a PHONE. Everything else it does is just icing on the cake.
If you want great audio quality while filming video, go buy a camcorder. LOL

Or an iPhone... Seriously I hate Apple, but it's stuff like this they always get right. Why am I not allowed to expect similar quality from an Android device?

Stupid answer...LOOL

i do agree with you about sgs3's sound quality on that vid being "thin" as you say.
and i would say hox's sound quality sounds "fat".
anyway here's the details for the 1080p vids:

No, camcorder doesn't give you great sound quality, separate quality mic does...

maybe you expect too much from your android device.
i thought the sound was decent. definitely good enough. if you also notice... on the gs3 vid there are a lot of cars driving in the lane right next to the phone. in the one for the hox... not so much.

I agree with the op, sound is bad, no bass and no clarity either. I hope this can be addressed like it was on sgs2 camera mod which made the sound awesome
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium

The sound is bad because its a prototype phone, its not a retail unit. Everything will be fine on release.

To be honest, I think the audio quality is pretty good. Definitely one of the better ones out there and to tell you the truth, I expected it to be much worse...

I totally agree. The sound quality in this video is horrible. The cars sounds like trains.

What I really want to hear is people talking on the video.

GSMArena's video has really bad sound quality. The sound in the HOX video isn't good either but it at least sounds a bit more natural. The sound in the GS3 video reminds me of the early days of MP3 audio, when using misconfigured encoders produced really weird sound, even if the chosen bitrate was high. I'm sure the mic used by Samsung for the phone is quite crappy (just like the mics you can find in most phones or digicams), but I'm also sure its capable of doing better than this video.

Well spotted the sound on the s3 is pretty poor compared to HOX!
Another issue to consider, thanks!!!

There you go, sponsored by Eldar Murtazin for me it sounds great, maybe a bit too much of noise cancelation.
http://mobile-review.com/review/image/samsung/galaxy-s3-fl/photo/video.mp4
PS: Dont blame me if you dont understand russian..

Honestly the last thing I'm going to use to judge the sound quality of a video recording is the sound of cars driving by on a highway...need a video with a better sound source...

Well I know I'm being picky here, but I want them to talk in front of the camera I think I will mostly be recording family moments with it.
That being said, I think it sounds pretty good for a phone. This isn't supposed to be a high def camcorder like som already pointed out.

Looking for Wired earphones with Microphone

Hey guys, been digging through the threads and found a couple on earphones, though not exactly what I was looking. Looking for your opinions on best earphones with a microphone for about $35-$65. Comfortable, preferably in ear design. Hoping for a pretty good microphone so that people can actually hear me, especially outside, though I don't want the mic to be huge (that's one thing I liked about the stock headphones till they broke; the mic was discrete). Also, I would prefer one of the earphones to be longer than the other so that I could have them hang around my neck when not in use. All opinions welcome.
So far I've looked at:
Sennheiser MM50
MetroFi 170vi
-Thanks
Hi,
You can try
remote control with HTC ExtUSB
which has: mic+vol up/down+fward/bward
and 3.5 connector
and get an CX 95 style
I order this combination and they are on the way.

I can barely find anything on those headphones. Do you know if one side is longer than the other? (aka, is it an around the neck design?)

Does this headset works the same way as the htc headset that was supplied with the phone?
thanks for the picture. Too bad it's not an around the neck design. And yes, I believe all the headsets will work like the original one. Though I should note that none of the headsets will give you extra functionality like changing songs/volume, but you can still pick up/hang up calls.
I brought a nokia headset hs47 and that does not work well with HD

I was just about to buy those last night but then I saw that there were alot of fakes floating around and didn't want to get ripped off. Also, I found reviews for the "nuforce ne-7m" and they're all extremely positive. Everyone saying that they're better than the MM50, though, unfortunately, they're not around the neck design. I still ended buying them, if I don't like them I'll just return it and get the MM50s.

Got them on tues (very fast shipping as monday was a holiday). First of all, I'm no audiophile but here's my best 'imho.' Compared to the stock headphones, well, you really can't compare them. It's like listening to music in 3D; there's depth to the sound. The mic is in a good position and tiny. So far, everyone has said that they've had no problem hearing me and I've never heard the wind blowing in my earphones (which use to happen all the time on the stock ones). They block out sound very well and don't disrupt others since you can't hear the music unless u have them on/are really really close. If you turn up the volume (on the HD) all the way up, it gets ridiculously loud, but remains high quality. The cable is nice and long (sometimes that's an issue for me since I'm like 6feet 4in (1.93m). Extremely comfortable!
Cons(?): Not around the neck design. 'Bent' (L shaped) jack vs the stock straight jack. The sound carries through the wire into the headphones when they hit/touch something (like a zipper on a sweatshirt); however I think this might be true on all in-ear headphones? If anyone can comment on that, especially on the MM50 in that scenario.
3 other notes: It has one of those sliders were the line separates into the right/left headphone to help keep them from tangling. Came with a pouch and 3 other sized ear pieces. It has a 'clip' to clip the headphones to a piece of clothing so that they don't bounce around.
If you have any other questions or I missed something let me know and I'll try and get it answered for you.

Music quality booster

I think, some users can't correctly set EQ. RAZR rocks. I got SoundMAGIC E10 IEM.
Using PowerAMP. It really roxxx. For the first time i used RAZR as player i was totally dissapointed. But I've done few things and I'm really happy.
Rule #1 settings -> sound - audio effects for headphones -> OFF(!)
I takes time to correctly set EQ, but it's worth it.

I used your equalizer but I'd like to improve the vocals to hear them clearly and as I said when I hear BUM BUMs and excuse my english again It sounds like if headset couldn't make sound it good enough, since It sounds like gravity, I would like to hear them clearly too xD
One question? How much volume u set? Over 90% it doesn't sound good, because of preamp.
If u got this weird sounds, u gonna better buy another headset mine's E10 rox vocals are clear and loud, bass is punchy, deep, low, dynamic and strong. I really enjoy listenin' on combination RAZR + SM E10 + PowerAMP

Recommended headphones for WT19??

Hi, I stupidly broke the default headphones that come with this phone (live with walkman) and i liked them very much because the sound was great! but now I don't know where can I get new ones, or if someone knows about some good headphones for this phone, but that don't work via bluetooth... please.
Every earphone.
For me that earphone bundle sound suck.
Less bass with alot of mid-tone and high-tone.
I really hate its sound.
And almost earphone in the market can give you a mid-high tone.
Only a few that can give enough bass.
PS. anyway how much your budget?
And what you prefer to use earphone,ear-bud(in-ear) or headphone?

Well I'd pay 30 bucks for some good earphones, or headphones is ok for me.
I recommend you Philips SHE8500 - one of the best in-ear headphones in budget segment in my opinion. Enough bass, nice treble and middle and small cost. Also try DSPManager APK - set of sound effects and also good global equalizer - this one can radically change your sound to the best
well i'm using candy skull 50/50 ear buds. sound quality is awesome i would say :good:
Headphone :
-Sennheiser HD 201
-Sennheiser HD 202-II
IEM :
-dbE PR-18
-dbE PR 20-II
-Superlux HD381 series
As long as you keep away from crappy Beats by Dr. Dre, you will be fine.
They're expensive and quality is lower than a lot cheaper Sennheisers.
I used Sennhieser HD 202, I know it's cheap but the sound is so great. just stay away from Beats, it's crap.

Don't ever buy Skullcandy. You can get the standard Sony headset back if you search online for about €15

Well try bose headphones or beats headphones

sound over bluetooth and through 3.5 jack what do u think

i don't know what it is but the soundquality over bluetooth is not up to what i expected nor when connected to 3.5mm jack
I don't know what it is or the reason why i am experiencing this but it is not good
Initially i thought yeah lets buy a sony phone as it has walkman app on it and i read about clear audio, and to be honest it is not good
so then i bought every hailed player and played with all their settings, and installed even audio mods like viper4android and the end result it sucks
also the same applies to sound while connecting the 3.5 mm jack
it came to the point i had to buy an external dac/amp media player so i can enjoy music again.
I'm not what you would call an audiophile but I can hear a significant difference between low vs high bitrate.
And I must ask, there isn't any chance that you're using the headphones that came with the phone?
I'm using a pair of in-ear skullcandy's that I've had for around three years with all the phones in my signature and I can say with certainty that the Ultra have had the best sound.
I am sorry that you're not happy with the sound and I can agree that Clear Audio sucks and I've had it off since day 1, but fiddling around with the settings & equalizer a bit have gotten me near perfect sound.
What kind of bad quality are we talking about like 32kbit sound or like buzzing, crackling sound?
Can't really complain at all on the sound quality in this phone. :highfive:

now i am using hi end headphones Audio-Technica ATH-M50 also I have a high end car system. All i can say is i tried flac files and most other formats, it seems the mids are too much in the face and I can't describe it well as english is not my main language but it feel sharp and not comfortable to me. I tired so many convolvers in viper4android and equalisers and once i start messing there with equalizers all the sound gets messed. Its really difficult to say all I can say it feels not comfortable to the ear and not warm and lacks depth with any player.
Please don't misunderstand me but that is how I feel compared to my previous phones i owned.
I compared the same songs with my dac/amp player and on it the same songs sound as they should be.

You can not compare a battery powered smartphone with a powered amp player or a car audio system.
I play my music from .flac files in 24 bit and it sounds very good even with the standard in-ears from the box.

You can not compare a battery powered smartphone with a powered amp player or a car audio system.

can i ask does z ultra play 24 bits, which player do u use, and what settings in means of sound should i use and which to avoid.
my dac/amp is battery powered is the x3 fiio, and its so much better than the sound i get from my phone.
Maybe i need more learning in how to get the best sound from my phone, but i tried so many things and don't know why the sound is not to my liking.

now i am using hi end headphones Audio-Technica ATH-M50 also I have a high end car system.

The Walkman settings & equalizer should suffice, have you tried those?
Here's my equalizer settings, might be incompatible with your taste of music tho.

What the hell have you done to it? It looks like it got a brown foggy thing on it.
EDIT:

hmmm both equalizer settings did not work for me, again LordManhattan don't take it personally, I promise I will be positive
THis has nothing to do with the device, I know maybe I should invest in buying an aptx bluetooth dongle, as I am sure its the dam bluettoth technology that sucks big time.
As far the 3.5mm jack well the sound I get is as good as you can get from any phone.
My goal was to get great quality of sound over bluetooth and since xperia z ultra supports aptx, then all i need is connect an aptx dongle to my stereo and compare sounds

[CURIOSITY] Does your Ultra "chirp"?

So, an Ultra user asked in the Q&A section today if our Ultras "chirp", i.e are making noises. Since not a lot of people are checking out the Q&A section (compared to the General section and others), i got curious and therefore posting this here so more people can read it. My Ultra is indeed chirping, and i can hear it if i hold my Ultra up to my ear and listen to the area around the antenna. It sounds like a baby bird is trapped inside it. I can't hear it from the earpiece, only on the back.
It's obvious that it's the antenna that's making these noises, and it's pretty logic since the antenna is constantly connected to a cell tower and pinging it 24/7. I'm still not satisfied since i've never noticed these noises, so i checked out an LG phone. Same noise! A google search also reveals that it's not uncommon to hear these noises. Could it be bad electronic shielding? It doesn't really bother me since i have to really listen to notice it, but again; i'm curious as hell. Is it "normal" or is it a defect? I contacted Sony, and they have never heard about it, but it could be normal - or not. They will inform HQ about the noise, so i guess that's all we can do about it for the time being.
So to the question. Is your Ultra chirping? Hold your ear on the back where the antenna is (NFC logo). and listen closely. Can you hear it?

Could hear a high pitch noise
Looks like your little birdy is tortured inside... Lol!!!

I've tried it and some low volume-stuttery-high pitch sound is heard. Bit never in one moment that this bothers me. I have to really glue my ear to the glass back to hear it though.

Yup, it's the same here. I really have to listen to hear it, so it doesn't bother me, but i'm just curious if it's a defect or not. Probably not, but still..

Interesting! So it seems like it's pretty normal then.
I can hear the high pitch scream of a baby bird from the ear piece also but only when I'm on calls. Which is very annoying. But I'm kinded glad I'm not the only one at least. I've tried to hear any noise from my gf Samsung galaxy s3 but it doesn't make a sound. But it could be where this phone is extremely thin.

Yeah, my Galaxy Note doesn't make any noises, and it's the same with my brother's old Galaxy S2 Plus. My other brothers LG does however have the same noise (can't remember the model). I also checked in with my dad, and his Lumia 920 doesn't make any noise (come on, it's a freakin' tank), and his work phone; an Xperia Go doesn't make a noise, and my third (and last, i promise) brother's S3 doesn't make a noise either.
But a quick google search reveils that there are many different models out there that does have baby birds, including the iPhone. So what does this tell us? I have no idea. I think i'll go with thiness + a badly shielded antenna = baby birds.
My ultra moans sometimes at night.
I've taught mine how to chirp the Russian National Anthem.
And by that I mean no, mine doesn't chirp.

I can hear both noises if the back of the phone is directly next to my ear. Move it 2cm away and it dis-appears.
There is also a noise that 'plays' for a few seconds when audio finishes. Out of the main speaker.

I hear static from the main speaker if I have clearaudio+ turned on. Try turning it off if u have it enable.
I love this phone. But the chriping is driving me nuts. It's louder and more pronounced on the screen side when I'm on a call. Gives me a headache but Bell mobility is **** in Canada for any help.
