ICS data monitor warning - HTC EVO 3D

In almost no time my EVO 3D hit the default limit warning lol! I don't remember setting the monitor up, I didn't
know ICS had this feature.
This is mostly over my 4G.
I'd never make it on another carrier.

I miss my Unlimited sprint... cricket sucks lol. Yeah ICS has a built in data monitor. and you can change the limits by sliding them up or down, since stock limit seems a little low.

I only have 1gb with o2 Germany but it's fairly fast. I average about 3mbps down and 1.5mbps up with full signal
But once I reach 1gb then it slows down to gprs speed (barf)

how the hell did you manage to get 1GB over the internet app...
i mean downloads are in a seperate app so...

I did watch a lot of streamed content here and there, didn't realized how much. It might be counting downloads.

I just got the same message on mine today. I changed the message to 8 gigs instead of 2. Let's see how long it takes me to reach THAT plateau!

i'm confused, mine shows 0.00MB for the last month and I know that's wrong since I use the internet all the time during lunch (non-wifi). Not that it matters on Sprint, but I'm trying to gauge usage if Sprint's NV rollout doesn't improve my service so I won't get screwed if I move to VZ.
gonna see if it's a known bug on MeanICS.

If you average more than 2GB on the go, you're screwed. $30 = 2GB, $50 for 5GB. (VZW)
$30 for 2GB is a joke IMHO. For limited data, $30 for 4-5GB sounds reasonable.
I laughed at AT&T when they told a guy he could use his WiFi when he was near his 2GB limit. He told them "That's great & all but are you going to be paying my home internet bill when I go over, what's the point?"

I HEARD from a Sprint rep that there's a hidden 5gb data cap on our accounts. And if you go over that, you run the risk of having your account terminated by sprint.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Maybe sprint does it, but I find it rather hard to believe they would send you any kind of alert other then a text message that you are over data.
Do you have any apps that may be monitoring your data? I know when I was on an iphone I had an app that would warn me if I went over 1gig so I didn't go over my 2gig cap.

Well I've never heard of them sending a text message. I've heard of them calling a guy here at xda and just straight out telling him that he went over his data limit, and that they were terminating his contract.
As for an app that monitors your data, I'm not sure, they know how much data your using without having to use an app to moniter it. Whenever I'm home, I always use my WiFi to do all my downloading, cuz I don't wanna run into something like that.

There's no real cap on data. When I had my Optimus S I tethered everything to it because we didn't have internet st home at the time. I went well over 5 gigs for several months and never was told anything by Sprint. I would just ignore the message.

There is NO cap on normal data. Tell that to the people that use 50+ GB a month. There IS a cap on data roaming. They will terminate you for that.

That's not what the rep told me xhausx. She said that there used to be a data cap of 5gb, but she wasn't sure if it was still in affect.
But since I got you, explain how they terminated a dude's contract here at xda for using too much data? Now I'm not sure of how much roaming he was doing, but they called him and terminated his contract. The rep didn't mention anything about roaming, but it very well could be true. The only time I've heard of them terminating anyones contact it was because they where either using a verizon prl or seeding torrents from their phone, which is a breach of your contract. Although I'm pretty sure they do leave themselves a loophole saying they can terminate your contract anyone they want for no reason.

seems like they wouldnt be able to do such a thing on an account that clearly in writing has "unlimited data" on it....
i KNOW that i use well over the 5gb mark every month downloading all kinds of ****. never heard of this, never even got so much as an email from them about it.
every single rom i have ever downloaded... and there has been a good 2 gb worth in just the past week, all over the 4g connection, has been a ridiculous heap of usage all at once, never had any issues.
as for the OP, i have no idea. you obviously have some kind of restriction on your account, otherwise i would have seen this a long time ago. it's probably just a reminder from them letting you know that you are over. i would call them and ask them about it
I have seen all manner of message on Sprint...I'd keep an eye out for malware. OP, how picky are you about apps you install? Do you review the app permissions before installation?
If you aren't a paranoid wackjob about this stuff--or even worse you are "all meh" about it--I would backup your texts and VERY FEW VERY IMPORTANT apps and factory reset.

I have been downloading well over 5 gigs a month well over a year..not once did they call or message me. But my roaming has always been 0 megabytes. I had a peak of 15 gigs a few months ago but average about 9 gigs a months. A lot of steaming and music. As far as a cap..not there for regular data on our phones now. However I am getting suspicious of the new items that are to be announced next month regarding 4g. Possibly, 3G will be capped and only 4g might be unlimited. Who knows.

absolutely zero GB/MB/KB/B per month. We have three towers here and they haven't officially turned them on yet. If you are within a mile or two of them then you can get 4G, but with Sprint allocating zero dollars toward WIMAX then I guess that's what we have to live with until LTE comes out.......which I will believe when I see it.

That sucks. That almost happened to me this time when I changed my phone to GNote from Atrix. ATT tried to pull a fast one by charging me the same price for 3gb of data. It wasn't a difficult process but they did have to make a claim. Nowadays even supervisors can't change the plan... Thankfully, i keep a good eye on my usage.
I wonder if you guys can get the unlimited data plan back with the iPhone 2G (aka Original iPhone) trick. Get an old iPhone, activate it on iTunes and it will get you the unlimited data plan since that was the only plan available for the iPhone 2G. Don't know if that loophole was closed but some people have claimed they tried it in December and it was still working as of then.
EDIT: Looks like that loophole has been closed and no longer works
Beats getting overcharged i guess buat am able to use my phone normally so maybe now att is using there heads
or you can go the verizon way and have an 10gb plan (20gb if ya bought it at christmas time)
now theres a plan i dont think anyone will cross

They've been doing it for months and its everywhere not just in select areas but most people wouldn't ever use enough data to get throttled.
The only real change is that now they've set the throttle cap at 3gb for HSPA+ phones & 5gb for LTE phones. Up until last month they were basing the throttling on being in the 'top 5%' of other users in your area, which resulted in people on 'unlimited plans' getting throttled under 2gb.

Well thanks for the thanks anyway lol.. I was always suspicious of how they were throttling but now that they've set some actual numbers in stone I feel a little better about it. I'm a little irritated though that I pay for two identical unlimited data plans (for the past 5 years) and now one gives me 3GB while the other gives me 5GB.. even though I pay the same for both.. Oh well, its better than randomly being throttled at 2GB I guess.

[Q]AT&T Throttle speeds

I received this text from AT&T today(see below)... Was wondering if they really do and how much they will throttle me.
The text
" ATT Free Msg: Your data usage on your 4G LTE smartphone is near 5GB this month. Exceeding 5GB during this or future billing cycles will result in reduced data speeds, though you'll still be able to email & surf the web. Wi-Fi helps you avoid reduced speeds. Unlimited grandfathered in plans get throttled at 5GB for 4G LTE data plans and I believe 2 or 3 GB for 3G & HSPA+ data plan.
If you have ICS, go to system settings then click data usage. You can set a data limit also. Its built in so you wont need to download an app.

From whatever the theoretical max bandwidth available for their area. Once they hit 5GB of usage, their speed was capped at .6 Mbps.
This was only one data point though, so as always, YMMV.
I hit ten plus gigs a month. They throttle at five but it's very easy to get un throttled. Just look into the ImEi trick . Basically call and update your imei with a 4g phone. Then call back with lte note and update. You are un throttled. Don't let them limit your data Usage.

$70 "T-Mobile Monthly 4G" pre-paid will give you unlimited talk, text, and 5gb of data before they throttle.
They also offer 100 minutes, unlimited text, and 5gb before throttling for $30 a month (which is what I use)

To provide a good experience for the majority of our customers and minimize capacity issues and degradation in network performance we may take measures including temporarily reducing data throughput for a subset of customers who use a disproportionate amount of bandwidth. Additionally, in the event that a customer is in violation of the Permissible and Prohibited Data Uses listed above, we may reduce your data speed for the remainder of that billing cycle or terminate data service without notice or refund. We may also suspend, terminate, or restrict your data session, Plan, or service if you use your Data Plan in a manner that interferes with other customers' service, our ability to allocate network capacity among customers, or that otherwise may degrade service quality for other customers.
Update: Now this is just funny. I went to check if Simple Mobile is a BBB accredited Business, they are not. Look at what the BBB rated them though.

Yup welcome to the scam that is Simple Mobile. Because all their customers are month to month, they give not two ****s about retention - in fact retention goes AGAINST their business model...they suck you in with false advertising and blatantly lying to consumers, lying about unlimited data, then turn you off COMPLETELY at about 1gb. And when you call to complain they LITERALLY CANT WAIT to drive your business away. Cuz they in know the next chump just bought his 60 card...they basically push you out once your usefulness is up end of month.

You are very lucky I called again today to talk to some from corperate and they were will to send a tickek. Whatever the hell that means but seriously tho like I hate the facted that I get throttled from not even using a 1gb of data

Read the small print, if its one GB then its one GB every one knows unlimited is not unlimited anymore. At least you should if you know enough about phones to be here. I'm on contract and have 5 lines (not all mine of course, me, wife and kids) but my unlimited data is 5 GB & i expect if i hit that which i make sure i don't that i'll be throttled. So if your plan throttles at 1GB and you get throttled at 1GB what's the problem? You didn't read the small print? I just dont get it. I don't like it, i mean on 4g i get close to 20mbs & i can connect 8 devices they love to advertise that. So i could eat up my cap in a couple hrs. But thats how it is. Look how fast our phones are and oh yeah your capped but you can hit your cap faster with our network then any other lol. & buy a HTC one series phone will give you no sd card slot but 50GB of drop box storage. I laughed in the reps face when he told me that i said so with a 5GB cap in ten months i can fill up my drop box lol. Should have seen his face. I know, i know, wifi but still. I swear its a conspiracy, speed up the networks and phones lower caps and raise data prices, & now send us all to cloud storage wtf!!!! SORRY END RANT
Oh yeah & XDA premium but simple mobile? Spend your $ on a good plan.

Not that I'm trying to bash simple mobile... but as some one that helped launched the service... run away from simple mobile.
so shady.
but yea they will need to make a ticket to send to T-Mo for the T-Mo NOC team or one of the tech departments to undo the throttle so it's going to take a few days. .
Dude it still hasn't been fixed I'm thinking of just going prepaid T-Mobile at least I get my correct 3g speeds with them

I didn't even notice the date of when this started... But simple mobile or any MNVO's Tickets are so low on the priority it takes for ever for a resolution. Going pre paid T-Mobile is the best idea.
True that's what I'm going to for right now
