are these anything like those crappy, bulky ottobox cases?

No. Get the surface case by Seidio. It's the best combination of protection and thinness:

It all depends on which one you get. The surface is very nice for a day to day case which is what I have right now and it looks like the active is an inbetween. The convert combo is the most rugged of all of them. and the thickest.

Hmmm...I said I'd never buy seidio again but the surface may be my best option at this point. Hopefully it fits better than the one I had for my galaxy s II.

I personally prefer the Active combo. I go under desks all day.. IT, so yeah.

I've been using the Seidio Surface case and holster with my original EVO and I *love* them. My ~2 year old phone still looks almost brand new.
Been waiting for these to become available, thanks for the heads up!

NP, Me as well, I am debaiting between a couple of them, since I see that there is a Convert Combo pack which includes the Surface Case & Holster / Convert Case & Holster. as well as a screen shield from them as well. I have this same thing now but don't use the convert much at all. I am not sure if I want to go with the Surface Kit or the Active Kit, thinking active just to be safe. and its got a nice metal kickstand.

I've used the Active combo on my OG evo, and the best PT one for my 3d. I'm in the same boat, and works really well...... I tend to have screwdrivers/screws/keys all the bad things in the world in my pockets

Agreed. Mine still looks close to new as well. Now if someone can just find a coupon for this, would be bonus.
I think I paid 19$ for my evo 4g active. Just kills me to pay close to full price of $30, when you know it costs like 20 cents to produce.

I have the active on my 3D and love it. Had the surface on my 4G and liked how thin it was but it fit loosely and scratched the edges of the phone. If they made the active with the kickstand accessible I would have ordered it yesterday. I need a case with a holster because I am a mechanic and can't keep my phone in my pocket.

I just want a Seidio holster, no case this time around! I have over $300 in Otterbox(all 3), Seidio, etc. cases for my Evo 3D just sitting in a drawer never touched. All I ever use is the $25-30 Seidio belt holster that I purchased on sale from Amazon for $2.95 and free shipping. Was the same way with my Evo 4G. I always go case crazy an buy most of the big name cases out there. Not doing it again this time!! I may buy 1 nice case just to be prepared if I'm out doing something where I'll need the phone protected. Otherwise just a Seidio belt holster an I'm all set!

That's the route I took as well....I always buy a Seidio case...this time I just got the holster for the naked phone. Tired of having a great looking phone that I never see. Unfortunately the damned holster showed up on Friday and it's sitting on my desk taunting me with the images of the phone that I am not allowed to have.
Plus no matter how good the case is, they can't replace the feel of the naked phone...

anyone know of the lowest price for the seidio surface case? (or coupon codes used to get it lower)
shopandroid and htcpedia dont have it
seidio is offering 10% off via code: FB10
but you have to pay tax (at least in texas) and shipping
also, the PT/Platinum series at best buy is the exact same case, but its $35 (at least online).

I usually get mine through Amazon, but I don"t think it will be available there for a while. I used show2012 for 15 percent off yesterday. Still seems to work. My sister just cracked the screen on her nexus. So its made me paranoid and I don't want to be without a case.
Ended up going with the active case this time. I had the rugged extended on my Evo 4g. Trying for something a little thinner this time. I'm too hard on my phone for just the surface case. Even after almost 2 years my Evo still looks brand new. Wife has the active and it feels pretty nice.
I have had a seidio case on my last 5 phones going back to the Mogul. I have cracked a few seidio cases, but there always was a pretty good drop associated with it. I look at it this way, If my phone cartwheels down a drive way and I trash the case, it did its job. Ill buy a new case.

i had the active (actually two different ones, I had to get a replacement shipped to me) on my evo for almost all of the last 2 years. i took it off a month or so ago because i got an extended battery. looks almost brand new.
Im going with surface because i think i can handle a little less protection based on my habbits (never cracked/broken any phone in 8 years as cell phone owner)

I have an active on my 3D and love it. Just wish the one for the LTE allowed access to the oe kickstand. I had a surface for my OG, but the edges of the phone got scratched from the plastic on plastic contact.

That's my luck. Wasn't any available on amazon when I checked a few days ago and just got an Email today from Seidio. 5 off cases with MEM5 and 10 off combos with MEM10. Also I wanted to have it before I went back to work Saturday night. Ill have the case and holster on Friday. So only one day without protection.

Cheap OtterBox Knock-Offish Cases?

Has anybody tried these out yet? Just saw them on eBay today.
OtterBox Knock Offs
Their feedback is pretty good, but they haven't been selling these particular cases for very long. So, I'm guessing nobody that bought one has reviewed it yet.
Whatcha think?
Been thinking about one of these as a backup. @ 20 bucks might just go for it.
I like the Defender so much because of the camera protection. This knock-off leaves the camera area exposed, offering them no protection...Guess it all depends on your wants/needs, but this case also just has a cheap look to me..specifically the button/hole covers

You can get a defender case for only 12 dollars more on amazon.
Just received mine today. I think I paid 36 all together with shipping.
As long as it not otterbox, then yes.
Otterbox wants you to setup a crime scene before you can return a defective unit.
They don't have any integrity about standing by their product.

Quite the opposite actually. 95% of people who call in don't have to do anything to get replacement, myself included. I called them, explained the issue, he asked for my email address and mailing address then told me i would receive it in about a week, didn't have to do ANY thing. Plus get to keep the old one for a backup, nice!! Bet customer service anywhere!!

I pretty much guarantee you will get better customer support from otterbox than you will this knock off company.
I got an otterbox defender for my OG evo as soon as they became available. 3x I had to have it replaced (for minor issues) and 3x they sent me replacements with little to no trouble. I had to take a picture of the damage the first time.
Btw the replacements were for 1 the kickstand snapped in half and the other 2 were related to the holster cracking. (I was very hard on the holster, always bumping it into walls/doors lol)

I went ahead and got one full price 49.99 right after i bought my Evo. Could have waited---- but whatever.
I think this would be a good cheap alternative mainly due to the exposed buttons. The defender works as advertised but i might want a lower profile, easier access, less tapedeck looking case.
Ive had one problem with the defender. watch were you sit. The belt clip has a weak point and it will break if you hit it in the right spot.
Edit: On second thought- there is no way to make the Evo 3d not look like a a Walkman
I woul probably like the knokoff more if all buttons/ ports were exposed.
MMMM, Nom Nom Nom
I ordered the Defender. Got a discount from Retailmenot.com and really like it. Ditched the crappy built in screen protector and grabbed a zagg also got the discount for that at retailmenot.com.
I am suppose to be getting my otterbox in the mail tomorrow from fedex. I love the camera protection it offers. And the best thing is I got it for free, haha through best buy accommodations.

Platinum Series Case from Best Buy

Just wanted to give you guys and gals a heads up about a new case. It's made by Seidio and looks and feels great on the phone. Adds a bit of bulk to the phone but comes with the holster. I'll try and get some pics up later tonight after the little one goes to bed. It goes for $34. 99 retail. My Best Buy got it in today so they should start being available soon.
Edit... Couple of pictures... Sorry the quality sucks.

The best buy platinum series cases are garbage in my opinion. They're the lowest quality case on the market. They're thick and look cheap. They remind me of the chinese cases they used to mass-produce for the clunkers in the 90s. This is one of Best Buy's most profitable skus in the store, so they hock the hell out of them.
Seriously though, this line is about the worst on the market. They beat the hell out of the back of your phone, and they're so incredibly thick, and have absolutely zero aesthetic charm. There are soooo many better cases and more worthey companies you can support, and get better protection from.
I tend to use BodyGlove Mirage case with seemingly sturdy Platinum holster. Haven't seen either yet for I-777?????

I bet you look like I did in best buy when I tried one on my phone and couldn't get it off. It took a long time and a few sales associates to figure it out.
Use something small and sharp to slide in the minuscule crack along the backside where it joins. Then push that tool down to un-notch it.
That was enough of a PITA for me not to buy the case.

I couldn't disagree any more. The cases are manufactured by Seido which has an excellent reputation online for quality cases. It is their "surface" case rebranded. I will say that the all black color is kind of plain and may not have the "charm" you desire, however I like the simple look. They have felt inside the case to protect the phone from scratching so I'm not sure why you stated it beats up the phone.
To each his own as they say...

this isnt the only case hard to remove. the otterbox cases are just as hard ive had it on 3 different phones the iphone, captivate, and the atrix 4g. u will have just as much trouble and the outside skin covering the hard case on the otterbox will stretch to where it wont stay on. the platinum seidio case i had on my nexus was 10x better than otterbox and the same price and had 3 layers of protection versus 2 for otterbox.
I have had this case for about a month now and love it. I've tried a bunch of cases including the armor shield and I keep coming back to this case. I think its incredibly light and adds almost no bulk. Plus the holster is awesome. The back is a little tricky to get off but after you find the right place to apply pressure to its easy. Took me a few tries but I can unsnap it no problem now. I do like the snap it makes it feel secure.
One note, don't try and put and armor suit on your phone then put it in this case. It will not come back out without some serious prying. I actually am impresses the case is still fully functional with no scratches or anything after I practically had to pry it from the sides of the phone.

I have used Seidio cases/holsters on my smart phones for the last 5 years. On Black Friday, I went to BestBuy and bought 2 case/holster combos for $45. One of these is $49 on the Seidio site. So now, when the holster spring cracks in 6 months, I still have a spare. Quick review.... The case is snug, fits perfectly, has all the correct cutouts, and is secure. And it is easy to get on or off once you get the "feel" for the clip on the back. The holster build quality is the best I have ever had from Seidio. They clearly are improving their product. I have no concerns of it falling off my belt, or popping out of the holster. And it is still easy enough to get the phone out with one hand.
I just got this case/holster at Best Buy today.
I've been a Seidio fan for several years now, this is my 3rd Seidio holster. The previous ones (for HTC Kaiser and HTC Rhodium) didn't require a separate case - they just held the phone "naked". I do like that this case has holes for both the I777 and the international version's placement of the noise-canceling mic.
But ... yeah, it's a bugger to remove the case from the phone until you get the hang of it.
For giggles, I tried out my SGP Neo Hybrid EX bumper case with the Seidio holster - it fits like a glove, so that's another option.
Cool, what kind of screen protector that you have on your phone?

Thoughts on this Case? Holster Combo

anyone have experience with this case? thoughts?

OK, I'm not a fan. Its an OtterBox knockoff without the hard plastic case. But $9.00, you have nothing to loose!
Isn't it more like this one?
http://www.amazon.com/Technocel-Hol...QO/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1326241379&sr=8-12
For the price I'd go with Technocel over ebay's version. I actually have it and it's quite nice.
Believe it or not they are the SAME EXACT item. Technocel asks a manufacturer in China to make it, then they make it for Technocel, then sell some on eBay themselves. I ran into the same situation with the following:
this Amazon case
and
this eBay case
SAME THING!
I got it on eBay for $2.95 + free shipping.
BoxWave was going to sell it for $19.95 and a shipping charge. I bought it from eBay, while BoxWave was having a pre-sale. (It would be shipped when ready.) People actually paid $19.95 for it.
I emailed the company and told them and their response was "I'm glad you found a similar case."
I sent them the links, and they replied "It is the same, because of this, we will lower our price to $9.95", and they did, but I got the case before it came out in the US directly from the manufacturer at a cheaper price.

The issue I see with this case as well as the Technocel one is the fact neither provide much screen protection in the sense that if your Motorola Photon 4G falls either face down or bounces on the ground and ends up face down, your LCD more than likely will shatter. If I'm not sporting the Otterbox Defender Series case for mine, I'll carry my Motorola Photon 4G in a Trident Aegis Series one. True, the Aegis Series cases don't have a holster clip like the one you reference or the Technocel case/holster combo Mongofrye, but I find the Aegis case by itself is thin enough for keeping in my pocket.

At the same time, both cases provide a lip that protect the screen. At the same time, you have a Gorilla Glass Screen. Now, I love Trident, and I would have a Trident case for my Photon but I could not stand not having a landscape holster. So, that is the only reason why I choose the Defender...
Trident does have wonderful cases though!
Go for the Trident Aegis if you don't mind being without a holster, guys! Great Case!.
(I swear if another mod PM's me saying this is spam, I will never create a post or comment on an accessories post, ever again.)

i saw this one on amazon and figured it is like the one they sell at the sprint store. I like it because (minus the holster) it is very low profile.
I honestly like very basic protection. i hate adding tons of bulk to my phone. The one on Ebay looks different in the fact that it has a soft inside on the holster and the clip swivels in order to act like a stand. Could be used at a desk and you could flip it around to allow charging while in landscape mode.
Either way, i looked a little deeper into amazon and found i think the same one as the one you posted above for only $2.99 + .99 shipping. I went ahead and ordered it. I'll report back on quality.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006L8APYQ/ref=oh_o03_s00_i00_details
In my opinion, the TPU cases provide probably the best protection with the least amount of bulk, but i just can't stand that there aren't cutouts over the volume and camera buttons. Such a pain. If anyone can find me one, i'll jump on it.
This is just another instance where the case is the EXACT same as the Technocel case listed above, and for this reason, I'm gonna go ahead and order it. Savingsss, oh, how I love savings!

We all love savings, but not at the cost of quality! Same reason I told you I'm swapping my 32Gb MicroSDHC for $127.00! I have seen a few cases/protectors that look great, but OtterBox seems to do it for me.

I know what you're sayin, man!
I'd be scared sh**less to leave it naked when I am outdoors, though.

OtterBox

Amazon has the OtterBox for sale. I have not posted enough to post a link. You will need to google it.
OtterBox-77-19658-Defender-Series-HTC
thanks man. I'll post the link to Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/OtterBox-77-20040-Defender-Series-HTC/dp/B007TRUW14
http://www.amazon.com/OtterBox-77-2...UW14/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336518121&sr=8-1
50$
=)
I was looking at that earlier. Is it a complete case with built in screen protector?
Picture doesn't exactly show much.
they don't have the 4g lte listed on their site yet but if it is like the one x cases then it looks like it does have plastic that will cover the screen
http://www.otterbox.com/HTC-One-X-D...2-83100_color=20&start=1&cgid=htc-one-x-cases
I brave it and never use cases. I find them bulky and makes the phone ugly. Lol.
What if I drop it :3
I think I might go with:
OtterBox 77-20042 Commuter Series for HTC EVO 4G LTE
Also on the Amazon site, but this one is the commuter series for $35ish
I've had my commuter series for my OG evo for over about a year and a half now... still going strong. The design is one of the best.
Does anyone have the Defender, or has anyone had the chance to try both for the OG evo? If so, which do you like the best?

What will you guys do until this case arrives? I'm thinking of buying a temp case and then returning it when the otterbox arrives cause we are getting the phone before the case. I would hate to drop my phone or put any scratches on it.
They posted the cases on otterbox website midnight Blue? Or black?

I held the Otterbox Defender and both standard and anti-glare invisibleshields in my hand while people on this board swore they weren't out yet. I even took pictures. Otterbox's website as well as their customer service reps had no knowledge of their existence then either. I remain wholly optimistic.

love the inflated shipping costs to make it look they have the cheapest prices.. while they are cheaper by a couple dollars.. 10 dollar shipping is a joke as i know that case would fit in the small flat rate usps box and thats 6 dollars. i see that a lot on ebay.. they will offer free shipping but their prices will be 5-10 more then others with shipping. im curious as to why they claim to have it and otterbox the company who makes them does not?
Guess I'll also pre-order the defender. cant wait for friday.
Otterbox Available
I just received tracking info from Amazon that my Otterbox Defender is on the way with Thursday delivery.
I am thinking about getting the Otterbox but the price tag seems a bit much. $35 for the commuter and $50 for the defender. Can anyone explain the difference between the 2?

the defender has another layer of protection. so its a little thicker. I also believe that it has a built in screen protector. it also includes a holster. htcpedia.com, would've made it a hyperlink but apple might sue me, has them a bit cheaper. I got the defender for $39.

Any good cases?

I'm pre-ordering my phone today probably.
Would rather not pay $30-40 for a case at Sprint.
eBay doesn't have any yet.
Looking for a standard plastic case.
(Preferably snap on case)

Seidio currently has two, the Surface and the Active, and I'm certain Best Buy will have some sort of combo available when it releases next Friday as thats what they did when the original EVO came out.

I'm getting the commuter and a set of really nice screen protectors for this. I had the Defender for my DInc2; it was too bulky and the built in screen protector sucked a lot. It got dirty really easily and dust got under it too well. I'd rather have a slimmer case and a quality screen protector.
The accessory I'm most excited about is the Media Link though. It's a pretty penny, but that will be a really cool feature. Emulators on your TV with your phone as the controller. It's gonna be real nice.

of course its not available yet. probably a week or two after the phone drops they'll have them
i assume any of the one x cases will fit the evo 4g lte. im probably gonna get one of those leather pouches.

Leather pouch probably, but fitted case I doubt. They are designed completely differently with similar internals.

i like the defenders shock absorbtion but i dont want a screen protector.. and i say this for one main reason.. ive never liked the way they look.. but also in the 2 years ive owned the evo and the year my wife has owned hers never once has the gorillas glass scratched.. and she abuses hers a lot more then mine.. so unless i can remove the screen protector on the defender ill prolly go commuter

I had a defender for my Evo OG and I was able to remove the protector and use my phantomskinz. It was just held in with some type of adhesive and it actually made a pretty good seal with my screen protector.
So if you want to go without a protector, I would imagine it shouldn't be a problem to remove.
Is there a band to go around it? Similar to how the iPhone antennae issue was "fixed". I don't want a case, but I would like a ~2mm lip to protect the glass when laying face down.
Edit: After some googling, apparently they are called bumpers. I can probably get a cheap-o from ebay after release. Does anyone have any experience with a bumper case?
I'm hoping for Trident to release a case... i love their Aegis on my E4GT...i wont consider another brand

I emailed the TPU-cases guy to see when they would have them ready as I usually buy from him AND will probably buy another one from him once they are ready BUT I did go ahead and order one of the TPU cases from the HTCPedia shop http://shop.htcpedia.com/htc-evo-4g-dura-gel-tpu-case.html
Says it should ship "on or before 5/11" so we'll see...
I liked the hard snap on platinum cases from Best Buy. That gun metal color. Hope they have those again.

The only thing I didn't like about those was mine interfered with my screen protector. Meaning it peeled up the edges when I went to put it on.
I will prob be getting the Active Combo from Seidio.

I saw that one too but come on.... 12.99 for a tpu case. That's quite steep. I'm used to paying like 3-5 dollars. I think I'll wait lol.

TPU-cases.com are usually $8 or so in the early stages and then once more knockoffs come to market you can get cheaper. Honestly, I would pay evwn more as long as I have a case the day my phone arrives that I know I will like. Put a case on as soon as box is open and phone will look like new next year when it's time to upgrade, again.
