[Q] i9100 Wifi Problem - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I seem to have a problem that hasn't been easy to diagnose.
My wifi scans for networks, let's me input the WPA/WEP password and then nothing happens. When I press on "Connect" it isn't doing anything. The weird thing is that to some networks (my laptop hotspot) it connects correctly but doesn't seem to download or upload any data, but nothing happens on other networks.
I've searched around a lot and some people say that it is hardware issues, but for these guys, available networks don't even show up. So I have faith that my problem will be software related.
This first occured on Hydrog3n ROM with Fluxi Kernel, then I flashed the rom with netchip kernel, still nothing, now I'm on stock ROM and still no luck.
Any ideas??
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, try in router set to WPA PSK (personal) or better WPA2. maybe it will solved.

Maybe you should try to wipe phone completely data/dalvick/cashe/format sd card... Then install some fresh rom and see it then...

Thanks for your help guys!!
After fighting with this for several hours I found out the problem. My router is old and the signal it transmits is b/g. So I set it up to only g and my phone in only 2,4Ghz...
This fixed the problem!
Thanks again!

Does your wireless internet connection have a password?
If so is the password entered correctly?

Maybe you could, let the phone forget the connection (delete it) and then try it again.

I tried, same problem.....
restart your wireless router or access point, see if that helps!
Maybe you have the wrong modem.
Take a look in the Modem Collection thread in the Android development section.
It often happens after installing custom ROMs

i think this is a kernel issue coz of the rom installed!
try reconfiguring ur router but after forgeting the network on ur phone and c how this works out!
My phone has had this problem since new. It stayed through stock firmwares KE1, KE2, KE7 and KF1, and has also occured through all Lite'ning Rom versions. I notice it's happening to users of a number of other roms, but isn't a widespread problem.
I have tried reconfiguring routers and forgetting the connection, but the problem persists. Very annoying, but not enough for me to send the phone back to the UK for repair (I'm in New Zealand!).
The problem is not resolved under the leaked 2.3.4 either, I've already heard of someone with the same problem on the 2.3.4 version of DarkyRom2.
Edit: Wifi is set to never sleep. Even cycling through this setting does not help.
those who have problem with WIFI try to reflash back your root application like CF-Root...then your WIFI should be working again...

[Q]Android 2.3.x WIFI issue

Hello everyone
okay, i've been with a really anoying problem since the 2.3.x updates on android (Samsung Galaxy Gio in my case). The problem is that everytime I try to connect to the network, I stay some seconds with good connection and suddently the router just rebots himself. Tryed already changing some router settings (by the way my router is an Zyxel P-660W-Tx v3), setting the phone to factory, deleting apps and I always get the same result. I tryed to contact the Zyxel company but with no sucess until now. I know there's gotta be another fix than just have to buy a new router so it would be great if someone could help me out. Because this thing is freaking me out already.
Cumpliments,
Deviantor.

[SOLUTION] Samsung Galaxy S wifi 5.0 and big problem with wifi

My model is YP-G70 , firmware 2.3.5 on original updated stock rom.
My wifi working very well when I used with my others device (HTC Desire, Nook Color and PC) but with my awesome Samsung Player...
Every some minute the player drop the wifi line and after 1/2 second reconnect.
And i loose my download
Incredible.
I turn off Juicedefender, I 've setup the wifi property "Wifi sleep policy" with NEVER, I turn on KeepWifi Service (app) but.. NOTHING.
Do you have some advice?
Help...
I had the same issue when I bought my US model. But I only had the issue with my home wifi and not anywhere else. Can you connect at another location and see if you have the same issue? I ended up just replacing my old Belkin router and haven't had an issue since.

Try installing KeepWifi, see if that works. Otherwise it could be your router configuration, like the kind of encryption you use for your wifi password. Try to reset your router but don't use any password for a little while, if that works, use another encryption method.

Thanks for the advice...
I will try, but tomorrow I 'll be in another "wifi area" so with another router...
Solution
I've changed the "Client Lease Time" in my dhcp server (ddrwrt) from 0 to 99999 minutes.
It's working end I don't know why
I read this solution in an old XDA item of this forum. Thanks!!!
Hi
I have the same problem with my G70. For to have the max signal in the device i need to go beside my router. I have try with other router but the problem is the same.
maybe is only the display animation in the screen? I say that because i check the quality of my signal at it tell me GOOD.
im also having this problem on my I9003.
the wifi sleep policy has a bug.
some say that your Security/password should be WPA or WPA 2, they said this happens on WPA-secured routers, i haven't confirmed it though.
the only temporary solution for this is to disconnect or turn off the wifi in your phone settings and turning it on again, then you can connect again.
Due to the ROM,i think.Because wifi on 2.2.1(mine is YP-G1) functions great
Dose G70 have a ROM of 2.2.1?If so,you can try it yourself if you like
well i found a fix for this bug, just download the latest version of WiFi fixer from the Play Store.
that's the easiest way to fix this wifi sleep bug.
Hello, I am having the same problem, but I suspect my situation is worse. I've even tried the wifi fixer app, but my 5.0 drops wifi and breaks large downloads and games that require constant connection.
Do I have a defective unit? Any advice and help would be much appreciated.
Solution! (for me at least) go into your router settings on ur PC and change the lease time to either Forever or 30 minutes ( I can't remember which one). It worked for me... good luck

I had this wifi problem with 2.3.5 it was really annoying . Even if i was a meter from the router the signal sometimes dropped to 1 line. Samsung fixed this problem with the 2.3.6 update, and now the signal is ok.

Not the best solution, but....
I have the same problem that happens with my SGP 5, my friend's IPAD, and the Actiontec Router that Verizon supplies with their FIOS service.
I've tried every other remedy that I can find with no success.
The only solution that works for me is to assign a static IP address to the devices. It results in a very solid and stable connection in both cases.
Hope this helps someone else !!
Thank you all for the advice, but nothing seems to work, and I have no idea how to force it to upgrade the os from 2.3.5.
I don't know what to do now short of sending it to Samsung for service.

Download from samfirmware (or anywhere else) the XXKPL firmware. If you are 5.0 international, simply flash it with Odin. US users must make a new tar with just the "factoryfs.rfs" in it and flash it with Odin. That will upgrade you to 2.3.6. However, if you do that, I strongly recommend installing one of the custom kernels, so it won't be impossible to root.

Wifi seeing router - not internet but on data works perfectly - help

Hi All
Having a spot of bother tonight
Randomly my SG2 could not access the internet through my router.
It sees my router, no problem there. I can switch off wifi and get online with my data but not through wifi.
I had been using it all day but it just randomly stopped tonight and my router is working perfectly as my laptop and other phone is connected.
I have restored 3 different Roms which were up to two weeks old in some cases. Also flashed 3 kernels and 3-4 modems
On ICS Stock rooted LP7 with CF root LP7 kernel
Not sure what else to try so any help would be appreciated
I have searched and tried everything I can so if you can help, thank you.
Search in original android development in checkrom thread, 2 days ago somebody put a zip file to fix wi fi issue, like yours. It's called Wi Fi fix. Search and you'll find

Thanks Gregory
I tried it, but unfortunately it didnt work for me but I appreciate your help.
after flashing it, I couldnt even turn on wifi at the toggles or menu so I am doing a restore now and hopefully it will work.
I am not sure if doing a complete restore to stock firmware again will work.
Really dont know how this wifi issue so randomly appeared
Was your phone getting a DHCP address from the router or not ? on ICS, that happens when you get the popup message "Connected to XXXX".

Hi Vaxxi
If I dont understand what you are asking correctly, sorry.
the phone is receiving an I.P., gateway, dns, etc. each time I log on.
I can see that wifi connectivity is active but nothing is working despite clearing caches, doing restores, etc.
the problem started randomly
Yes, I was asking if it gets an IP through DHCP. Sometimes it gets stuck and you have to remove a file manually in order to refresh the IP address, but your problem seems to be somewhere else. Can you ping your phone from the router after it gets an IP address ?

thanks for your help Vaxxi
I cant get near my router tonight unfortunately
I can 'see' it through 'Fing' app but if I try to use speedtest.net app to see if I have data, I get nothing.
I think I will try another stock flash again with LP7 stock, but I doubt it will work.

Note: Fixed.
I did all the above to no avail.
Ended up reflashing the router firmware, not sure if this directly helped but upon reboot, my phone connected as usual but now had internet access again.
Strange as prior to flashing the firmware everything except my phone could avail of net access.
Thanks to each of you that helped.
im having the exact same issue. I have reflashed router firmware also but still nothing. Wifi symbol is there but not blue (cm9) data works perfect. Im also starting to wonder if its my router.
I have tried wiping all settings etc. Um currently downloading latest nightly so hopefully that does the trick!!

My router hates my phone? Or my phone hates my router?

Ok, so here's the deal.. I have a DLink DIR-300 router... Ever since I moved to ICS (stock and rooted) on my Galaxy S2, I always have some difficulty to connect my phone to the router...
I get "authentication error" or simply try to connect but then stops trying.
There are only 2 ways to fix this:
1-) Forget the network and turn WiFi off during some minutes.... Then turn it on again and reenter password
2-) Reboot my router
This only happens with this router (which of course drives you to think that's the source of the problem) but the weird thing is that my two brothers also have a Galaxy S2 and have no problems (using different roms)
Any idea of what might be happening or how to solve this once and for all? Additional data of my phone:

Make a nandroid backup of your current setup & try one of the roms your brothers are using & see if it fixes the problem. Could be an issue with the WiFi drivers in the particular stock rom you're using not playing nice with the router.
If it's OK for you using one of those roms but you really want to stay on stock, keep trying stock roms until you find one that doesn't have the problem.
They're the things I'd try if I were facing that problem. A router firmware upgrade might help as well, but given only one phone out of three is having problems, I'd try the above first.
Could it be that one of your brothers blocked you on the router?
There may be a limited set on how many wireless connections your router may be set with and yours has just went over the limit.
You could try using a manual IP, Gateway & DNS rather than DHCP settings that the router would give you.
