Gumdop Case Thoughts... - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I pre-ordered the Gumdrop case months ago. During the wait for it, I began to really enjoy using my keyboard dock and now, I am not so sure I want the Gumdrop case. I can still return for a full refund. I was wondering if anyone out there uses this case and also has the keyboard dock. Is it a pain to switch back and forth?
I thought about keeping it for when I know I wont be using the dock much and for times where chances of dropping it would be greater.
Thanks!
Brian

I don't have the Gumdrop case, but I thought about getting it.
After my son purchased the OtterBox for his iPad, I finally dropped the idea.
I realize the Otterbox isn't the exact same as the Gumdrop, but I think they're similar.
The Otterbox, while providing excellent protection, is a PAIN to remove! It would make each use a the dock a minor decision, deciding if I wanted to bother taking the case off and then dealing with putting it back on! Again, I don't OWN the Gumdrop, and maybe it's unfair to use the Otterbox as a reference, but from what I've read, they (Otterbox and Gumdrop) share in two characteristics... they're both somewhat difficult to put on/take off, and they're both heavy.
Which is the 2nd negative, in my mind, to the Gumdrop/Otterbox... the weight!
If I worked in very dirty/risk prone areas, maybe I'd give it another thought.

I have a carrying case that fits my Prime when docked to keyboard too. It provides good protection for transportation...when I use it, I try to not use in a way where I could drop it. So the Gumdrop really isn't needed. Plus, the Prime looks so good without a case...

can anyone review/post pics of the tuff luv hemp case for the TF?

is it keyboard-compatible like the other tuff luv cases? how much did you pay for it, where did you get it? does it come with a screen protector?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
I dont have the case but I strongly assume that if you buy the keyboard-compatible hemp one its made on exactly the same lines as the Pu and real leather ones. Why shouldnt it fit?? And as tuffluv doesnt really have resellers there is only one price, although if you almost go through to the end with the buy and then close the window (having entered your email address somewhere) tuffluv usually sends you a 10% code after about 2 hours to get you to buy the case.
hi
I ordered one yesterday.. will post a couple of pictures for you when I receive also review. There is a thread started earlier if you want to look. A couple of people have received the hemp case saying it was very good. I ordered mine via quidco any got 10% cash back. Wish I had known about a possible 10% code.
I bought a cheapish plastic case from ebay already. Hoping this hemp case will be worth the extra cash.....
Mine should be on the way as well... Will try to post back once I've spent a few days with it.
where did you guys buy it from? the tuffluvusa website doesn't seem to have it, and if i were to buy, i would like to do that coupon trick...
they're just a bit too expensive it seems.

There's a good review of the "veggie leather" one on transformerforums: http://www.transformerforums.com/forum/asus-transformer-accessories/2508-review-book-style-keyboard-case-asus-eee-transformer-3.html
Please delete - unintentionally posted same info in post #3
I bought one. They are very well made and cleverly designed to work with or without the keyboard. In the end, however, I sent mine back as it added too much bulk and made the whole thing quite heavy. Perfect if you're not bothered about that. Certainly seemed to provide a lot of protection.

I have one as well--Hemp/chocolate. Full tab and keyboard case.
I agree that it adds some bulk and weight when the tab is docked to the keyboard and the whole case is on. I don't mind it though, because it does add a lot of protection. Also, with just the tab and its case, it's not too heavy, and makes it easier to hold for extended periods.
Overall the build quality of the case is incredible--you definitely get your money's worth here, even though it's rather expensive. The materials are very good, the stitching is excellent, and everything lines up and works exactly as it should. I wouldn't hesitate to buy the case unless you're looking for something slim and trim.
Forgot to add--you can dock the keyboard to the tab and leave off the keyboard case if you want to reduce bulk--the regular tab case will close over it and mostly protect it while closed.

Do you mind posting some pictures? I would love some that give a closer look at the hemp material.
The only sticking point on the design of this case is that stand on the back. I've never really been a fan of those. Can you take a picture of the hinge for the stand? I wonder how hard it would be to take it off... Yes I understand that would leave the snaps bare, but I think I have a work around for that.
+1 on the pics
mind doing some without the keyboard case? it does look a bit chunky without it. i figured if i get the non-keyboard version, i'd save some money, and keep the device fairly slim.
I'm actually in the other camp. I think that it will be fine without the keyboard case, but am more interested in some pics with it. If anyone can take a few minutes to just post images (with and without the kb case) that would be great. No need for another full review since I assume the build quality is as solid as other users have claimed.

Yes please. Just need to decide between the Leather or Hemp. I'd like to save the loot if the Hemp one looks nice. Your opinion of the material would also be appreciated.
here are some photos
Enjoy the pictures. Let me know if you want specific photos
The material feels very nice. And it feels very well protected in the case. But it does put on some weight and size. Acceptable to me but could turn off others.
It also looks very nice.

Can you post pics of the stand and how it stay closed? THX
The stand is attached with snaps. This allows the keyboard add on to snap in between the stand flap and the back cover.
I would love one picture of the left indide cover. From the first image, it appears that the flap and other pieces are black. Is that leather or fake leather or something else?
I'm pretty much sold on this and will order mine tonight. Thank you VERY MUCH for the extra images.

[Review][Case]AGF Soft Shell w/leather insert

I just thought I may as well post a little review on this case. I bought this case at the same AT&T Corp store that I bought my SGS II on Sunday.
This case has a very high quality feel to it. The fitment was incredibly tight though. This is likely because it is designed to fit both the international and AT&T SGS II devices. This should be obvious if you look at the fourth pic. It clearly shows openings for both the international and AT&T NC mic positions.
I have to be honest, I only chose this case because the Case-Mate and Ballistic options were far too bulky for my taste. This case provides enough protection, for me anyway, without adding too much bulk. I really wasn't too keen on the leather insert at first either.
In the last few days of use, I have come to really like this case. I even appreciate the leather insert. It provides a high-end feel to the case and provides for outstanding grip. The front lip barely covers the chrome bezel. I actually had to work the case to get it to completely wrap around the front of the device. The end result is a case that looks and feels like part of the phone.
At this point, I can say I highly recommend this case for anyone who doesn't need a bulky case (although they provide more protection), and who also wants something more than just a gel cover.

Thanks for this review! I am looking for something less bulky than the case-mate. I'll have to check this out when I stop in my local ATT store. How much they selling them for?
I believe it was the usual rip-off price of $35. However, they give me 20% off on accessories at this store (frequent shopper there LOL). I am sure there are better deals, but I did not want to take a chance of messing up my phone before finding a case elsewhere. I paid full retail price so a few extra bones wasn't that big of a deal.
I was planning to return it, but I can't find anything similar online. If I find it online cheaper, I will buy it and return this one for sure. Either way, I am happy enough as it is.
I just bought this case today. I love it! Its like a mix between a hard case and tpu. If you had the bodyglove case on your captivate, you'll love this case. I like the look of the leather back, as I think it adds some class. This case doesn't add that much bulk either.
That was my first choice but the store rep couldn't get it to fit properly so I went with the ballistic even In this case the phone feels tiny in my Herman Munster hands after the infuse in a ballistic case I love this phone just gotta adjust to it
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
I also got this case. I like it a lot, it keeps the same of the phone without adding much bulk at all!
I got this case for my AT&T Galaxy S2 on launch day and I LOVE it. The Ballistics were just ridiculous. As far as getting the case on goes, I couldn't get it to fit at first but if you put it in bottom only, completely lip it; then top, completely lip it; then work the sides, it will always fit perfectly. Sometimes I feel like Gollum caressing my precious Ring with this baby.
Picked up this case today and absolutely love it. It doesn't add much weight to the phone and i feel it still keeps it slimness. As far as fitment goes. It does fit damn tight. I put it on the best I could at the store. I squeezed the sides to get the lip to go over but never could get the bottom corners to cover properly. Once I got home, I took it back out, then put it back on in reverse. This did the trick and it went on a lot easier.
I'm probably going to end up buying this case ASAP... I was interested in it for a while, but was afraid that it may have been too bulky.
Thanks for the feedback guys!

I just picked this case up from the AT&T store today. I have to say, it isn't a bad case but it adds a little bulk to the phone. I have another case coming in from Amazon tomorrow so we will see which one is better. I am not really a fan of the buttons being covered though since it makes it a little harder to press. I can already tell that this case will offer a lot of protection to any standard drop.
This is a great case!! been having it since Monday.
One thing to note is that if you are getting a discount on your cell phone plan you should also get that same discount on any accessories that you buy from AT&T.
I too chose this case with my purchase. it was the best of the lot,but I cannot keep this case. it just does not fit. I get 50% accessories on my plan. I went back to a store (not the one I got it from) thinking that they might have others. When I told the rep about the fit she said they are having returns for the same reasons. Found one that seem better on ebay waiting for it to come in. In the mean time I will kee this case to protect my baby, but will return within 30 days.
On another note anyone got the ivisor AG screen protector? not sure i am liking it. It seem to make my screen dim because of the non-glare, cant seem to find any good one on the net, they all seem to be for the international version. things are new so I will wait a bit.

What problems are you having with fitment? While it does take a little bit to get it on right, it should still fit. I had problems with the bottom corners until I took it out then put in back on, starting on the opposite end.

The one I ordered and received from Amazon covers only the volume u/d buttons and has a cutout for the sleep/power button. I can press the power button just fine. I like this case better than the AGF from AT&T. It doesn't add a lot of bulk to the phone and was almost 1/3 the price so I will return it after work.

That one doesn't look bad. I see they made a large cut out where the power button goes. Don't really care for that big cutout but to each his own. Mine has actually become a lot easier over the last day or so. I guess the compound loosens up over time.
Just got my GS2 today and bought this case at the same time. I wanted something sleek after a Ballistic case on my Infuse and this seemed perfect.
As others have stated it's a tight fit. The sales rep couldn't get it on completely so I had to play with it myself. Another post stated putting bottom and top on first. I had better luck with the sides first. Maybe it is just loosening up after trying 2-3 times to get it on.
The volume and power buttons being covered are going to take getting used to as it takes a good press to work them.
To sum up, love the case so far. Seems to be good quality and good protection.
I tried this case on yesterday and did not like the fit. The ATT store only had one so I am going to try a few more to see if they fit better. It was tight and I couldn't keep the lip over the edges all the way around no matter how hard I tried.

Where are all the QUALITY leather cases?

Something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqesTZRGwyQ&context=C38b7f16ADOEgsToPDskKBMFMK6BjkFCi6z3oqRqDJ would be perfect for my needs. Something I can proudly take to the office that doesn't look like it was purchased at the local Dollar Store.
Sorry for the rant but the lack of quality accessories for this tablet is killing me.
Apparently no one wants to put money into a device that may not even survive a few months. You will only get the low end stuff really. Everyone knows Apple is the real deal and isn't going anywhere....so it is a sure bet to invest. Remember, you don't need to sell Apple stock, it sells itself.
I have yet to buy one, but this is one of the few I have seen that says it is actual leather.
http://www.skindigitalstore.com/categories/ASUS-Transformer-Prime-TF201/
If you get one and like it let me know.
My friend has a roocase for his og nd its very nice.. Here is a link to one, but they make several. I like this one because the tablet is in a "detachable" sleeve. (I have a substantially similar version made by MiniSuit but it's very cheap leather - looks fine from any distance, but for $14 I know it's not good quality - it serves a purpose and looks fine for my needs.
Anyway..... check Roocase. I've seen and handled that brand and think it is nice. MUCH nicer than most anything else available. If you don't like it, return it.
I have the Caseen Skinny and it's great.
tuff-luv.com has some great albeit pricey leather cases for not only the Prime Tablet but also the Tablet and Keyboard.
The real question is: "Where are all the quality non-leather cases?"
There are tons of options for leather cases with varying degrees of quality, but there are practically no non-leather cases.
I have the cheaper poetic/mono case and it has been great. No complaints.

How is it only going to last a few months? They are releasing the tf 700 in a couple of months, but that will be the same size so if anything the lifetime will be expanded more that it normally would be.
Also this is a good case, I got the exact same type just from a different company called Acase, because it was cheaper priced.

I also looked at the Roocase but I am concerned of the thickness the case would add to the tablet.
I also purchased the Mini Suit case to hold me over and agree that it's made of very very very cheap looking pleather.
So my search continues
I bought this case off of eBay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/260938668106?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
I have several cases from this guy on our Kindles, Nooks, iPad and now TFP. Have had some for over a year and there are holding up great.
The two problems I have with this case is that it will not charge closed or when sitting in landscape as shown.
I was skeptical about different cases i kept finding online. But after taking a proper look at this one --> "GreatShield Multi-Stand Leather Protective Folio Case for ASUS TF201 Eee Pad Transformer Prime"
I went ahead and ordered it. It cost me 20pounds and was shipped from the US. In terms of quality, It is way better than any leather case for any tablet I have seen so far including those for the ipad (and I mean it). I asked someone @ my UNI to guess how much it cost me and he said "probably 70pounds". My point is, it is of the best quality, it looks sleek, professional and prestigious. Even better is the fact that it is tailor made for the transformer prime so all ports are accessible. Its design also doesn't cover up the bezel like most other tablet cases do (something i dislike with a passion).
I trust that if you go ahead and get it, you will not regret it. Here's the amazon UK link
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B006RML5ZO/ref=oh_o02_s00_i00_details
If you live in the US, you can search for it on amazon.com.
I hope this helps.
Cheers mate.
Thanks for the info jdeltree, unfortunately I have already purchased & tried this case
http://www.amazon.com/TF201-Transfo...3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1330033453&sr=1-3
which looks fairly similar and was not happy with the design. Used it for 10 minutes and went back to the cheap minisuit.
Most of my cases in the past did cover the bezel and I kind of got used to that.
I may just bite the bullet and try the Caseen one. At this rate I will end up with a drawer full of these cases in search for the right one.
Going to give the Acase another try tonight to see if I can get used to it.
The saddle leather one coming soon from tuff-luv looks promising. 99£, but saddle leather is a top quality product. Once a picture is available, ill probably order one, as long as I can get it to the states.

If you think that $10.00 is quality leather, or leather at all for that matter, then your standards are very low.
I have the caseen one, I'm pretty happy with it.. Doesn't add too much bulk but does add a good amount of protection. I feel the build quality is good too.

[Q] Case Choice Dilemma

Hi everyone,
I just bought my Transformer Prime last week, and I am faced with a major dilemma. I'm scared to death that I'm going to drop it, so I've been using the case I bought for my granddaughter's original Transformer. It doesn't quite fit, but it works.
I'm trying to decide how to protect my new tablet. I like the look of leather and a well-padded case would provide good protection, and the ones with stands are very utilitarian. However, it would be a shame to cover up such a beautiful device! (After all, its good looks are one of its strong selling points.)
Has someone found a good solution for protecting their tablet while still being able to show it off?
(I apologize if this question has already been answered; if so, please just point me to a link. Sometimes it's really hard to find the right search terms.)
Thanks!
I have ordered the case shown in link below. In my case I have the Dock also and this seems to me the Best available. Though this might not be what you need thought I would at least post it for you.

I've got a simple 10" laptop/tablet neoprene sleeve. The prime fits nicely inside it with or without the dock attached. Apart from that i dont have any protection on it right now and its been working well for me. Having it for 2 months now and i dont have any scratches. And i have it with me most of the times in my backpack or guitarcase.

Has someone found a good solution for protecting their tablet while still being able to show it off?
(I apologize if this question has already been answered; if so, please just point me to a link. Sometimes it's really hard to find the right search terms.)
Thanks!

Forgive me if someone already posted, but I bought a leather case from Best Buy made by a well known name..Targus.
It does offer great protection and has the stand built in, a nice velvet/cashmir type fabric inside. I don't have the link but it's the only one that the Best Buy by me had so I grabbed it. It was $40.00
This ISN'T my Transformer Prime
Yeah there are a lot to choose from on Amazon.com. This is the one I went with, I'm happy overall:

Thanks!
Thank you, RonH54. That looks like a very nice case. The problem is that although the front of the keyboard is visible, the back of the keyboard and pretty much everything on the tablet itself is pretty much covered--so no one can see how nice it looks. (My dilemma....)
I'm also a little concerned about the very negative review I saw there!
joedeveloper, the Moko also looks very nice, but also has the same issues. And Pixelation, I haven't seen the Targus case, but I assume it covers the tablet as well. Am I right? And finally, Gage_Hero...!!!! What can I say? That looks like a pretty extreme solution. I don't plan to treat my tablet in a way that I would need anything like that.
almightywhacko, thank you for the link. I had already seen it, and looked at most of the cases there, but got discouraged because they all looked pretty much the same and all covered the tablet so you couldn't see it. I tried to post my question in the Accessories Forum first, but was told that I was breaking forum rules by posting a question there and that I needed to post in the Q&A forum--so here I am.
I've never seriously considered a sleeve, but clouds5, thanks for the suggestion. There are several listed in the Accessories Forum thread, so I intend to look at them. That might be the best compromise, because the tablet would be protected when it most needed it, but would be on display when I was actually using it.
The only other option that has occurred to me is a clear case. Something like the Invisible Shield wouldn't provide enough impact protection (although I would need something like that for the screen to prevent scratches)--but there might be a clear case out there that is more protective. Has anyone seen something like that?
Again, thanks to everyone for your contributions. You have given me some new ideas. (Sorry to be so slow--I've tried several times to post over the past couple of days, but kept being told that "the token had expired", whatever that means!)
I have 6 cases. I am not kidding. 6.
Like you, I have a tf101 sleeve that works for basic thin protection (given to me by a friend that didn't like it for their og). I have a neoprene case (another give-me). I have a non-tf202 specific hard-ish case made by CaseLogic that I like a lot because it will hold the tablet+dock and it is very durable. I have the MiniSuit linked to above for the tablet+dock and it sucks. Badly. They are a good company and they have done right by me, refunded my money, etc, but the design is horrible with a very basic flaw - the leather is way too thick where the dock meets tablet and that is just not going to be good over time. I have "modified" it with a pair of scissors so that it wont break my tablet+dock - it does make a nice case for carrying and using them both. I also have the MiniSuit 360 case. I really like that one because the tablet is detachable from the case.
IMO = The best one is the one joedeveloper linked to. Slim, good protection and really shows off the Prime. It is the only one that does not cover the bezel. It is very "configurable" and you can use the dock WITH it. I can be folded half way back and then half of the beautiful back is "shown".
I have the full body skinomi skin for my tablet and dock so I have that as added protection so I son't mind using my dock with that case because I know my dock wont get scratched. But i wont use that if I need to carry or travel with the dock, I'd use one of the other ones.
So...slugbug2010,
Let me make sure I understand you. You like the MoKo case "best" because it doesn't cover the bezel, but it doesn't give enough protection to travel with it? So you would recommend buying a second case for traveling with it (in addition to a full-body skin)?
I can't tell from looking at it and reading about it on Amazon if it covers the keyboard, or just the tablet itself. If it covers both, can the two pieces be separated? If it doesn't cover the keyboard, I'd need to have a separate sleeve or something to protect it.
Can you and joedeveloper elaborate a little more, please?
Thanks!
You can get some balls for your Eee pad if you are afraid of dropping it.

Reading your post again, it looks like you want a clear TPU case like this one made for the iPad http://www.amazon.com/CrazyOnDigital-Accessories-Cover-Retail-Package/dp/B004RRU7NM
However sadly no company has yet stepped up to the task of making such a case. Theoretically a TPU case would provide decent drop protection and not alter the look of the tablet much. And since it is so thin it would work well with a sleeve for added padding when not in use.
Yes, the TPU case looks like it might be along the lines of what i want--but it appears that I'm out of luck.
texstar, the iBalls are a really interesting concept (despite the name). I'm thinking they might be the perfect thing for my granddaughter's Transformer, providing some protection and leaving the tablet easier to use than the traditional case I already have for her.
As far as using them with my Prime--they certainly would expose the tablet itself, but I'm not sure I like the "quirky" look mentioned by some of the reviewers. It's also not clear whether or not they might cover up some of the ports and controls.
If your post was a serious one, do you own them? Has anyone tried them on your tablets?
Joedeveloper and Slugbug2010, are you still there? I really like the Moko case, but it's tablet only. The Minisuit looks nice, too, but seems to be thicker than what I'm looking for. I think I need a combination of the two....
Those of you who are using the Moko and have a dock, do you have a separate case for it, use a sleeve, or just leave it unprotected?
Thanks again for all your help.

Case for one hand holding?

I want to start reading some books on my tablet, but due to the large size and small bezel it's awkward to use. Any recommendations for a case with a handle or strap to make things easier?
I haven't seen any cases with built in straps, but something like this might work for you:
http://www.amazon.com/Padlette-in-Black/dp/B004DLUZ4I/ref=pd_sim_e_2
I haven't used it myself, but it looks like it could be an easy way to hold the Prime, as you can just slide your hand under the strap. It should also be able to stretch over any folio case you might choose to use.
I use the Sikai microfiber case, and while it doesn't have a strap I find that its soft grippy texture makes it much easier to hold the Prime for extended periods. It also offers excellent protection for the tablet.

That looks interesting, but $20 for a elastic band seems kind of ridiculous to me. If I can't find anything better though I may give it a shot.
Mine just came in today, so I cannot pass full judgement but so far so good.

thats the one i'm currently using
overall the case is pretty good but if you put it on a unleveled surface, the stand won't stand very well as the tablet doesn't sit in the nudge very well
other then that i have no complaints about it
been using it for about a month or so now
