[Q] 3G To HSPA+????? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Sorry to be a bother. I have serached numerious post about simular problems with details pretaining to a fix in this matter. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-I777. The Rom I am currently running is ShoStock V.2.2.6, Android 4.0.3 with the cheerypicker Kernel and bandband ver.I777UCPLCS. The problem I have been having and did not have before flashing this rom, is that my 3G signal and HSPA+ notification keeps flickering back and forth. Plus my data speed have slowed up a bit. Yes, I could flash back to another rom but I really like the features of this one. Is there a fix to this problem is it a known problem? Thanks so much.

Try a different modem.
Also H+ only shows when using data, if not it will show the 3g instead.

I figured that LiLChris. But it keeps flickering back and forth. Plus this is mow happening in areas that I once had a full H+ signal with very fast speeds.

The flickering is part of ShoStock and most other ROMs. It shows you the true connection; as LiLChris said, it uses H+ only when using data, and defaults to 3G when no data is being sent. AT&T usually just hides this and makes it show H+ all the time, even though that's not accurate.
I know, it freaked me out at first too lol. As for data speeds, try different modems and also changing APN settings.
EDIT: I didn't know the problem was when you're sending data (you posted a couple secs before I did). APN settings and a different modem may help you out with that.

Sounds like modem issues as stated. In my area modems can vary by up to 2mbs depending on which one I try

Is flashing different modems cut and dry? Is there a place to go and see what modems in my area are good to use?

Does anyone know of a good modem or any tweaks to make 3g signal any better?? Thanks for your help
I'm looking for the same thing.
Did you try flashing the modem with the tweaks to make your 3G faster?
Im not sure i tried using a 3g super charger script and an app called 3g/4g speed optimizer and im still testing...did you have any suggestions DJquick?
I always use kb1 that gives me the best signal and speed

KB5 works best for me. I'm typically in the New York city and Boston areas. Speedtest.net clocked my 3g @4Mbits down and 2.5 up last night.
just try a few different ones. If you get a bad signal or dropped calls in a certain area; it's because of the area, not your radio. You can use 10 different radios and it wouldn't make a difference.

It's an ICS thing. The new update messed with our signal. The only way to fix it is to S-Off and go back to Gingerbread.

Sorry for the late reply, you can search for modems I can provide a link if necessary but a Google search should be fine and you will need to root and have cwm installed to do this or use a flash tool or Odin if you have a galaxy,

I use to get full five bars at home using GB, after updated to ICS (SuperSayain rom) I pretty much only getting 3 bars. What I did was in the mobile network setting, changed mode from auto to WCDMA only and so far i've been getting pretty much 5 bar most of the time with occasionally dropped down to 4. hope this works for you too.
I am also having this strange issue. So is reverting to GB the only way or can you just flash the gb radio? Anybody know anymore about this??
Same issue here. At home used to get full 5 bars, now 3 sometimes 4, which is fine as I am usually on WiFi anyway. Problem is I had great signal all throughout my daily commute to work to where there is sections of my drive that I have no signal. Before in that area it would revert to EDGE from 4G and mine is set to auto.
Just believe like everyone else mentioned that it is the ICS radio. Hopefully an update will fix it

No. And to the people talking about modems and odin and.. yea, no. We don't have modems to flash, and odin is just for samsung devices. Until now we couldn't flash a radio if we WANTED to.
You know the iPhone's fix when people were talking about how bad the signal was for the iPhone4? They had been boosting the REPORTED signal strength. So did HTC, so did Samsung, so did.. all of them. You'd drop a call when it showed you had GOOD signal.
Not a single person has posted about having ACTUAL worse issues. The OP said he can make calls and talks about how many bars.
Apple's opinion:
We have discovered the cause of this dramatic drop in bars, and it is both simple and surprising.
Upon investigation, we were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong. Our formula, in many instances, mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength. For example, we sometimes display 4 bars when we should be displaying as few as 2 bars.

People here are having the OPPOSITE problem, it LOOKS like you should have an issue, and you don't.. but people keep posting about it even tho there hasn't been any issues.
This is the ONLY person who had actual signal issues(Weird Interference/Reception Call Issues on my Amaze) I have seen since ICS dropped, and it turned out to be a hair on the contact for the antennae. Read his thread, he methodically checked quality and could answer basic questions - and then he fixed the actual problem.
Edit: I'm not trying to be a jerk, but if someone is ACTUALLY having problems, they actually can't make calls, drop calls where they didn't before, etc.. then there is probably a problem that can be fixed. But unless you are having those issues it is likely that the signal strength you're seeing is more accurate(EXACTLY like the apple quote I put above), they are just doing a better job of SHOWING the actual signal. Which is good, no unexpected dropped calls or BS.

Don't know if that's the case because when I so connect its fast. Just as fast as the first day of the month. I do have the 5gb plan and have never hit it. Been close but never hit it. I'm going to call just in case. You do have a good point.
Do a speedtest. If its 60 kb/s and steady, or something similar, that's your issue

LFB network bug

I've recently noticed a weird network bug on LFB. If the phone loses signal (on subway etc.) with data on, when signal is available it acts as though the SIM was refused by the network continuing to display Emergency calls only. If I turn data on and off it gets weirder (see screenshot).
The only way to fix it is too reset the radio, with flight mode, or *#*#4636#*#*
It's definitely not a hardware fault since, as you can see it still can connect to the network. It just acts as though the connection was refused (or alternatively does something weird that causes it to ACTUALLY be refused)
Anyone else experienced this??
The phone is an original BTU using unmodified LFB on China Unicom

Are you able to set/receive calls or send/receive SMS? What about USSD codes to your provider?
I've already read about other users complaining about this issue, I guess it's a software-bug in the display.
No. I'm not sure if HSDPA will work in the example pictured. I was in a hurry to make a phone call so just quickly snapped the screenshot then reset the modem.
Messages will get service unavailable. Incoming ones don't get received until I reset

Washington D.C. has no GSM coverage inside the tunnels. Only some stations have coverage. Only Verizon and Sprint with CDMA devices have service on moving trains.

Beijing.
Well 2G is okay. But it sometimes will lose it briefly in the transition from 2g to 3g.
Only Beijing subway line 4 has China unicom WCDMA coverage. the others are limited to 2g at best (except the overground lines, but even they are patchy)

Having updated to the stock LFB ROM and modem (UK, unlocked, unrooted), I'm really perplexed about the behavior of the phone data reception:
(a) 2 weeks ago, I tried using data connection in a friend's flat in Balham (London), could not get ANY data connection all weekend.
(b) Last weekend, data was consistently perfect and fast anywhere in the same flat, all "H+" 8Mbit and lovely.
(c) This weekend, same place but NO reception again, not a saussage. Voice phone worked fine, just no data at all.
And, yes, I've seen "emergency calls only" sometimes even when there is apparently a strong signal.
Back home again (Portsmouth), phone works fine.
On the plus side, battery consumption is wonderfully low!
Can anyone explain what's going on? It feels like the data connection is sometimes reluctant to "log in" or whatever is does! It seems to have a mind of it's own.
Thanks!
You may want to try another modem like DXLF3. It has better data network stability especially in cities or areas with faint signal.
I am planning to upgrade to the LFB, but i am not rooted. Want to be sure if i have problems with the modem signal, do i have to be rooted to install the new modem driver??
Thanks in advance...

Data with CM9.1 (LTE) *SOLVED*

Hello people new here and im digging around with no exact answer so I decided to open a thread. I just rooted note today and I flashes CM9.1 by cyanogen (QuincyATT) version and I may be having data issues or not lol.
When I try and choose lTE/GSM under settings it doesn't let me; just defaults back to GSM automatically. Also I feel like data goes in and out or maybe its just me. Any suggestions? I'm in an LTE area...

Yes. Will LTE work automatically? I'm assuming theres no icon for it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
It will automatically connect if available. The icon is 4g. If you see H then you're not on lte because it isn't available or possibly because of that setting.
This is mine by default. Honestly not sure if it makes a difference.

I still have the same issue as well with a new sim. Haven't resolved the issue yet just wont stick lol. I dont know what to do I love this CM9.1 so much I refuse to switch. Ive just been using h+ its about 7mb down but nothing compared to when I hit 27mb down on LTE.

Not sure if this will do anything, but have you tried clearing cache and dalvik in recovery and then seeing if setting will stick? If that doesnt work, try wiping again, but then dirty flash the ROM and gapps. Another option(and I'm not sure what this will do) is trying to clear data in settings apk and starting over with all your settings. That will wipe everything back to stock settings as if you just flashed. Good luck guys.

Man I really don't want to switch to GB base lol, I'd rather be on touch wiz. After doing some research I'm starting to believe it may be the modem. My phone arrived with ice cream so I'm betting that has a lot to do with my issues. I'm going to change my modem for the first time to see if I can switch to LTE
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
Possibly a dumb question. But after you deleted your APN, and entered a new one, did you press menu and save?
Proper LTE APN for your carrier, with LTE sim card and LTE plan, you should get LTE running.
for CM9/AOSP/AOKP/CM10 type roms, LTE will show up as 4G.
Another way to test is to install a UCLF6 ROM. Get that up and running. Then go to the APN settings, and the LTE APN's should be loaded.
To confirm LTE is connected, make sure you are in an LTE area, and you can check in Status, or open up the phone dialer, and do *#2263*.
Then select LTE, and All types in LTE. If you are running in LTE there, you should be able to get it up and running with any CM ROM.
I switched to the touchwiz black star rom and I'm on LTE right now. Same modem I had on cm9.1. Its puzzling why it wouldn't turn on. Oh well ill stick with touch wiz thanks anyways guys!

[Q] Does the Samsung Galaxy Note i717 support tmobile 3g?

I have an unlocked Samsung galaxy note i717 and was wondering does it support T-Mobile 3g because I never get 3g its always edge and sometimes 4g it sucks so if anyone knows or know a way I could get 3g to come on that would be great thanks alott
No one has tried that yet -- you're the first to ask! Now I'm wondering too.
My guess is you'd have to flash a t-mobile compatible radio. Maybe get the radio from the t-mobile Blaze 4G galaxy phone, because its the same modem chip as the note, is my guess. You'd probably have to input the APN settings, most likely they aren't included in our Rom.
Good luck and let us know if that works.

Start with the Blaze 4G galaxy phone modem over in the development section. Its a zip file so you need to have a custom recovery (CWR or TWRP). Don't forget the APN settings after you flash.

Ok, you already get data on tmobile network but you don't like the inconsistent speed.
You can try different modems. But in the end, you may just be in a poorly covered region and will have to live with it.
