[Q] Using Bluetooth (music/talks) how much does it drain the phone's battery? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I kid of didn't use much BT before, but somehow, because of good sound characteristics that will come out of SGS3 with the APT-X i'm thinking of using it for wireless listening to music.
I have read about a few BT headsets, so they usually use 6-10 hours of use between charges.
How much does the Bluetooth usage drain batteries of phones? Could you say your experience with SGS2 or other device? Can you use SGS2 for a day and then listen like 5 hours of music ove BT?

Does BT v2.0 get you anything over v1.2 for headsets?

I've read the marketing fluff and they seem to suggest quicker connections and better battery life. But has anyone actually tried a BT v2.0- EDR headset? Right now my moto HS850 is only BT 1.2 and battery life is a lot shorter when I have I am actively using it.
I've got my eye on a snazzy new Moto H670 because it has an off switch and uses a usb charger. But it's new and a lot more expensive compared to the old hat v1.2 headsets. Will it make a difference?
I have Nokia BH-900 that is BT 2.0.
So far the only difference I have noticed is the faster connection time to the phone.
With my older headsets (Nokia HDW-3, HDW-4, SonyEricsson HBH-300) it took about 5-8secs to connect but with this one it's 2secs.
Dunno about the battery life. Nokia has promised up to 8hrs of talk time with this one and up to 180hrs stand by. I can't verify this since I usually end up recharging it every day. So far the longest time I've been on the phone non-stop has been 3hrs and had no problems.
There are no REAL improvements that I have noticed. Sound quality is moderate with this ear piece.
I had Sony Ericsson HBH-IV835 (also BT 2.0) and it connected in 2 secs to the phone, but I returned it for its poor sound quality and short range ('bout 5 meters).

mp3 player on Hero?

I am considering if I should get hero or not.
Before I make my decision, I would like to know how the mp3 player is like on Hero because I want to replace my mp3 player with the phone.
I've used HTC Diamond before and I was very dissapointed because with the earphone they gave me, the sound quality was horrible (the usb cable) and the battery life on that device is pretty bad I'd say. Lastly, the external speaker was extremely bad compared to other devices such as Iphone 3G or sonny ericsson devices. I guess HTC doesn't make a good speaker? I'm worried since this is another HTC device so could you guys give me your opinion about the mp3 player on Hero?
1. Battery life when using mp3 player
2. sound quality through headphones and the external speaker (quality and volume wise)
3. mp3 player
Thanks in advance!
Only had mine a few days after coming from the HTC Magic so I do compare the 2 quite a lot, but here goes:
1. Battery life on the phone is pretty good for a smart phone and it has a better battery then the Magic, you should be able to easily get a full days use while listening to say 3-4 hours of music.
2. Firstly if you plan to use this as your MP3 player then I would ditch the supplied headphones and invest in a decent pair. This usually applies to all headphones that are bundled with devices though. The headphones you get with it are ok, but sound a bit tinny and if you like your music clear and bassy like me then you'll want a better pair. Some people don't like the sound the Hero outputs through the headphones, again with a decent pair I have to say I am pretty impressed and more then pleased. Volume is good through the headphones.
I don't usually play music through the speakers as I'm not one of those annoying little twats that sits on the bus playing his music for the whole world to hear but the sound quality is ok through the speakers. It loses quality obviously the more you turn it up and depending what your playing. Basically it's fine for a phone but you wouldn't want to play music to a group of friends for too long through the speaker.
3. The default MP3 player in my opinion is fine, does the job well enough though there is no equaliser. Some people downloads different players from the market but I personally think the installed one is more then adequate.
Thanks for the quick and descriptive response!
I'm not sure if Hero is the phone I'm looking for.
The new Android OS sure does look sleek and refreshing.
Anybody know a good smartphone that comes with:
1. a nice mp3 player
2. good battery life (2-3 days at least with more than average usage)
3. nice and many applications
4. and 3.5mm headphone jack
I have been researching so much but I can't find the right one for me.
-Iphone's great but it seems too common around me.
-palm pre has a very short battery life I hear?
-Sonny Erricson's X1.. kind of outdated
I'm quite excited to see the new xperia.
I think Erricson makes great devices (mp3 player, external speaker, long lasting battery and etc). But does anybody know if the device comes with dual touch?
It is a bit off topic but I need help lol.
From experience of multiple smartphones, to get 2-3 days above average use you are probably going to have to get a phone which has a higher capacity battery available, but then these are usually 3rd party and require a different back to cope with the increased battery size. I tend to get about 2 days usage but a lot depends on how strong a data connection I have.
In practice I have used many WinMo phones and the Hero. Both have good MP3 players available with my current favourites being Nitrogen for WinMo and Meridian for Android.
Nokia E52 has small form factor and good mp3-player, and WAY better battery life than Iphone, any htc or winmobile

Any bluetooth headset recomment?

Hi,
I'm thinking to buy a bluetooth headset, any one can suggest me one? Battery life is my main concern.
Thanks
i use a nokia one, last me a good 2 days
I have tried alot of headsets since they first came out and all i can say is dont buy a cheap one, I have had the cheap, the medium priced and the highend headsets and I can tell you that the only ones i keep are the high end ones. Right now I have the Plantronics Discovery 975 and I love it. Its really light wieght I wear it mostly all day and i sometimes have to touch my ear to make sure its still there, thankfully it always is because it never falls off. It comes with a really convenient case that can charge it fully three times with one charge which means if I charge the case and the headset together to full charge I dont have to charge either for about four or five days. Great buy in my book and well worth the money
nokia bh 104 cheap'n'good
I use the Jabra BT4080.
Small, light, CHEAP, and has A2DP for listening to music.
i use a motorola one
Jabra BT3030 works good

A few months back I bought a Iqua Sun for about 50 euros (70 bucks), here is a link to the official site:
http://www.iqua.com/products_sub.php?navi_id=1476
I am extremely satisfied with the photovoltaic cells, whenever i get home i leave the headset near a window when it can get sunlight and that's all. In four months of moderate usage (20-30 minutes every day on average) i've only had to recharge the battery (via mini usb, perfect) twice . Of course it works with the Hero . I can't speculate on the extent of solar power charging on daily heavy usage , but if you don't need it beacuse of your work and simply use it when you are driving etc etc imho this is perfect.
I can vouch for my Altec Lansing Backbeat 903 A2DP headphones..what's nice is that they offer noise canceling and music streaming capabilities..and the microphone is out of sight yet accurate when you're talking. I've found them to be very comfortable when using them at the gym and just having them on all day. =D link to site
2 words - Jabra BT530
This is an amazing earpiece that filters background noise, AND can be connected to 2 phones simultaniously
Works like a charm, and fits perfectly in the ear(more ear pieces are enclosed so you can choose the best one)
I can wear mine for hours a day, and not even notice i have it "on"
/Smirge
Jabra BT2020 works well with the hero, clear sound and overall very good
There's only one headset i've tried that's good enough and that's Sennheisers VMX100.
Everyone in our company has one of those and save for a few minor problems, mostly related to generic bluetooth problems and the rest probably related to heavy usage, we havn't had any problems at all using a bunch of WM versions, stock android 1.5, iphone and sonyericsson.
Don't mind people talking about problems pairing it with Windows Mobile, my hero didnt even ask for a pass code.
I use the nokia bh-905 on a daily basis. I am really happy with the features (BT+A2DP+sound cancelation+microphone)
I use Sony-Ericsson stereo one: SDK-MW600, You can pair up to 3 devices, it works well with hero, with GB it even show name of song, calling nr. Quality of sound is very nice. And also long battery life.

Music Capabilities on X10 Mini (esp. vs iPod)

Anyone any idea? Both in terms of hard facts and your own personal opinion? Is this gadget good enough to replace your iPod?
I've always been a happy iPodder. I just ended my multiple Nanos for the Classic particularly because of the fantastic battery, ability to take lossless well and extra storage. But this damn Classic keeps deleting everything and freezing. And the size just kills me. I actually can't put it in any pocket without it being summoned by gravity. Wreaks my head.
So how does are little baby compare? I have to say I've been very impressed with the sound on this phone, and if you use POWERAMP, it dramatically improves the sound capabilities, it is irreplaceable. However, the battery on our phone isn't the best, and maybe it couldn't handle the responsibility as DJ?
Battery life is about 9-10hrs using Music....
So i guess an iPod is much better than this
I am more than satisfied with the X10 Mini as a music player.
Using the PowerAMP and Spotify (an Internet music streaming service available in some countries, Sweden for one).
Connecting the Mini with the home stereo as well as using it's built in speaker, when showering (as an example).
Outside, at work and in the car, am I using a Samsung SBH650 Bluetooth Stereo headset.
Filled up the 16GB mSD card with just above 10GB of music without even having the iTunes installed on the comp
Not knowing what special demands a DJ needs, though
good playback quality small and lightweight are it plus but its qons is the small battery life

If u really want to experience the superior audio the V10 has to offer, use a very nice set of wired headphones. U can IMMEDIATELY tell the difference in audio quality once the HiFi is switched on.
When it comes to gaming, I don't do intense gaming on mine. I play casual games like Clash of Clans or something. I experience no lag. Battery life does suck in some cases. I've noticed that since I uninstalled facebook, my battery is amazing now. Easily lasts all day.

The only game I play is respawnable and some roms on mame, no lags by far.
The audio quality is best with wired headphones. I use a Lg Bluetooth Headphone and for me sounds good.
Battery life on this device it depends on how you use it, it seems you're a super heavy user, maybe the battery is going to be a problem for you unless you have the time to plug the charger for 15-20 min. twice a day...
Desde V10 (LG-H901)
is Bluetooth set work HiFi or only wired one
