[Q] Problem rooting WT19i Live with Walkman - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hello,
I've been trying to flash the old .58 firmware on my device in order to be able to root it.
I'm using Flashtool and followed the instructions in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1559685
So I downloaded the .58 and when I try to connect my phone in flashmode, Flashtool says the following:
Code:
17/032/2012 09:32:48 - INFO - <- This level is successfully initialized
17/032/2012 09:32:48 - INFO - Flashtool Version 0.7.1.0 built on 2012-05-01 22:07:14

17/033/2012 09:33:40 - INFO - For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode
This is the complete output.
Additional information: I am using Linux(64-bit) and installed FlashTool according to the instructions on their site. Some people say you need to install some kind of drivers? I have the android-sdk installed but I don't see any drivers in the ./drivers directory in flashtool.
Here's the terminal output:
Code:
[email protected] ~/Downloads/FlashTool $ sudo ./FlashTool
[sudo] password for andreas:
JAVA_HOME not set. Using default value : ./x10flasher_lib/linjre64

The exceptions appear at the same time the error in flashtool comes up.
I've been trying it many times now, but I can't get it to work.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Using an older version of FlashTool seems to have fixed the problem. Currently flashing.

Bump
Can noone give me any advice on this? The error always happens exactly 20 seconds after connecting the phone in flashmode.

Try using in windows may solve..gud luck

This is happening because you don't have installed USB FLASH driver for your phone..Try with this..Find in folder where you installed Flashtool, folder named "Drivers", and install drivers "X10" something, and "Flashmode" drivers..after you do that, connect your phone in flash mode (turn off phone, press "back" button and plug in your phone)..It should recognize USB flash driver..So after that's recognized..you can do whatever you want in flashtool.
Just be sure if you do RELOCKING your BL, follow all of the procedures provided in thread for RELOCKING..
And I think that you shouldn't have custom kernel if you do that ..
This phone is not bricked..Just do what I said..
Cheers

And don't flash "any .ftf file"...that's not cool :d..just flash in the way it's written in threads..
PC companion asks to slide down the status bar and activate PC Companion on the phone. I don't have status bar.
I tried almost all topic of this forum that explain that. I followed them carefully, but it seems I've got a problem that is explained now where.
The phone just comes from the Sony Ericson repair center. They changed the mother board. Maybe related with this issue. I've first easily (hum, hum drivers) rooted it and put the recovery. I tried to install a CM7 ROM themed like ICS (I can't refind it, maybee later) and in doing so I tried to flash a Kernel. It just said we have to unlock bootloader so it's what I tried, but I've got this error. Now I just try to fiw the phone to have a second attempt at this.
In your link I've done the folowing :
lanch flashtool
click flash button
selected Reblock
put the device in flashmode
and that's what it says :

I tried it. It just says : PC Companion is unable to connect to your phone please deconect an reconect.
For more help blahbla.
When I try repair it download a ROM and tries to flash it. after unsuccessful try in stadard mode (Slide down the status bar...) it ask me wich phone it is and ask me to put it on flashmod. I've done it and the software don't even react.
Ive had all sorts of errors etc,and always got my phone to work.I can only throw some ideas around,as Ive seen simple things succeeding
Try various flashtool versions
Run them as administrator
Use xp

For UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER, please READ AND FOLLOW THIS CAREFULLY..
Thanks a million !
It works !
The problem was caused by not running as Administrator, what a tiny thing.
Hope it can help other people with same problem, but it would be great to have a sticky "Repair your phone" post with all usual issue like this one.
And again thanks for your support.

wait wait, the problem was not running as Administrator? can u please tell me how did u do it because my x10 is bricked for a month and i am desesperate =(
PS:srry for the bad english
its not BRICKED even i've faced this
you need to have this x10_2.3_aro.ftf .. which is the normal unrooted x10 rom given by sony at the phones manufacture.
requirements:
adb drivers installed
x10_2.3_aro.ftf
latest version of Flashtool
CAUTION: by following these steps you will lose all your phone information.. so you always need to have some backup
if the same problems persists at the time when you switch ON your phone ... follow these steps
1: make sure that you are not lagging by battery
2: remove the battery and connect the mobile via USB
3: run the flash tool which is already installed on your PC
4: Flash it with the downloaded file (i.e x10_2.3_aro.ftf)
5: when the flash tool says to connect your phone in flash mode then press back button and put on the battery and keep the back button pressed for a while
6: if the phone is connected in flash mode, well and good- then the 2.3.3 will be installed on your phone
7: if it is not connected in flash mode then repeat the 5th step ... you will surely get into the flash mode
8: after the flashing completes then you can again root the phone from the available option in flashtool and also install the xrecovery and unlock your boot loader
any problem regarding x10 booting can be brought to the happy mood by making these steps but you need to have a backup of your phone data

[Q] Xperia Mini Pro (SK17) howto boot device in flash mode?

Hi everyone,
I use Ubuntu 12.04 moved Flashtool on my system added the
rules to /etc/udev (checked from this Guide) and also readed this one.
With lsusb the device looks connected when even if the smartphone is
startet normal and when the device is OFF and i connect the usb cable
and press the volume down button.
It is not sure for me how i can start my device in flashmode as
it let flashtool its work with SK17i_4.0.2.A.0.62_Baseband+Kernel.ftf.
Can somebody explain me how i can proof that the device is startet
in flashmode correctly? Do it boot in a other way and show something
in flashmode or is the display after SE normaly blank?
My next step is that i like to get it updated and rooted (with this
update_4.0.2.A.0.69_SK17_PreRoot-Ex.zip one i guess). Must i transfer
this update with flashtool too? Or how can i bring this update on my device?
Flashtool dont start to flash my device (maybe becuse i have no clue
to start it correctly in flashmode). Or do i need to install an app?

Yes, but when the device is turned off, first hold down the Volume DOWN button, then connect the cable.

If you did, like I said previously, green LED lights up, display stays off and your device in flashmode.

No, this has to be installed via Recovery. Recovery requires custom kernel(and unlocked bootloader) or rooted ROM(which is pointless then).
Install older firmware, .58 or older, root it and then make direct update from your phone to .62(.69 if you're in Germany).
Place your phone in flashmode, when Flashtool asks it. Make sure drivers are properly installed, no additional apps needed.

Thanks for your answer. I googled a little bit and found that
there was an update for flashtool released.
Code:
* 0.8.0.0 :
[b]- Fixed an issue with flashing ftf under linux (specially ubuntu 12.04) [/b]
- Fixed system app backup when ls applet used to enumerate system apps is busybox one with colorization
- Added a kernel.sin extractor (ELF Extractor) to get image, ramdisk and rpm.bin on 2012 devices
- Added a Sin editor which is only capable of extracting data part from sin files for the moment.
- Added drivers for Xperia U, Sola, P
- Added Xperia U, Sola, P recognition (thanks to krabappel2548)
I had lost my mind and was a little bit before driveing crazy because there was no reason that i could found as reason because it dont work ...
Cross fingers that hopefully the newer version will work

Phone is restarted to flashmode. Disconnect and power it up yourself.
The ftf file, that you used, was only kernel and baseband(no system, no data - no ROM itself), not the whole package. Download full ftf file and try again.
These .sin files are just shown, you don't have to choose anything there.

Just a final note ...

Can anybody tell me the solution for this? I had xrecovery installed previously, I tried using SuperOneClick 2.3.3. Funny thing is that I can root my phone(shell root as well) and then start Flashtool 0.9.9 which will detect my phone as rooted(!).. but I can't install CWM recovery.. everytime I do so I get a process done message but if I go into Tools->Reboot->Recover->Specific Recovery all I get is a blank screen.
Now if I restart my phone after getting it rooted from superoneclick, it gets unrooted automatically! This is getting very confusing.. Can somebody help me please?
OP sorry, I have no answers, but I have the same/similar problem.
I figure if I add my information to the information you have provided we may collectively invite some comment to stair us in the direction to an answer.
OP, hope that's OK with you.
Just one thing OP, have you installed the Flashtool 0.9.9 Windows update/bug fix (assuming you're using windows)??
FlashTool-windows-0.9.9update1.zip
I am having all sorts of problems attempting to install a CM9/CM10 kernel with CWM recovery mode on my XPERIA X10i.
My end goal is to install [CM10] v4 (Torch) by: scritch007
I have an unlock??? bootloader and can root my phone. But I'm beginning to question that!!!
I have the following information provided from S1 Tool

I have installed a fresh copy of GB 2.3.3 using Flashtool 0.9.9 with additional Windows update1.
I used a 'World' GB 2.3.3 ftf see above.
I have also installed GB using Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS) which provides the same base OS.
[Root XPERIA X10i using FlashTool 0.9.9]
I have rooted the device using ZergRush exploit from Flashtools 0.9.9 with update patch FlashTool-windows-0.9.9update1.zip
To do this, I started the phone and enabled debug and unknown source.
With the phone still up and running and Flashtool 0.9.9 also running, I plugged in the USB cable.
I select the "My X10" option -> root -> Force ZergRush and the process then rooted the phone and the phone rebooted with root access, no problems there.

After I have gained root access I have the phone up and running and again plug the USB cable in.
I select recovery mode option in Flashtool 0.9.9 and I'm requested to power down my phone and reconnect.
This then installs a recovery mode, either CWM or xRecovery depending on which one I select.
Again, this is all good and I can boot into either xRecovery or CWM recovery depending on which is installed.
I have installed and used other versions of Flashtool, however the outcomes always seems to be the same.
If I attempt to install a CM9/CM10 ftf I get the following error message:

At the moment I have just given up until I have some good leads to renew my CM9/CM10 install efforts.
At the moment I have GB 2.3.3 rooted with ZergRush exploit.
xRecovery installed
DooMLoRD DooMkernel V6 install with overclocked CPU of 1152MHz
The phone is up and running, rooted and has a modified Kernel which I recovered via xRecovery backup restore.
So, I have a working GB 2.3.3 phone with root access....but I want more...
My phone seems to be a one trick pony and I don't seem to be able to install CM9/CM10 with the information I have to hand.
Any thoughts I why I'd be getting the "SIN header verification failed" message????

[ANSWER]
I solved my problem by unlocking the bootloader on my XPERIA X10i using the following information.

Don't 'freak out' when you see "Bootloader status : UNROOTABLE" scroll across the screen. My heart sunk when I saw that, but I let the first phase of the process complete and then connect the phone to the USB cable after the phone had re-booted with Flashtool 0.8.6 (in my case) still running and the process completed. In my case I got my phone back unlocked and still rooted. All good.
I'm pretty sure my bootloader was not locked when I started out a year or so ago, but I can't be absolutely sure; so somehow it's seems to have become locked during that time. Maybe because I was just recovering the same build each time I never installed anything else to check.
Like the OP, I originally rooted my phone by using 0.2.9.1 GB-ready using a convoluted process compared to todays one click root process.
Now when I flash a ftf file in Flashtool it runs through without any errors.
I was then able to go on and install [CM10] v4 (Torch) by: scritch007 without any problems.
Hope some of this information can help others.
My downloaded Flashtool has a virus. So I use the 0.9.0.0 version and it works ok.
I had the same issue too with v 0.9.9.0. for rooting I use v 0.6.8.0
