64 GB Micro SD Card (UHS-I rated) Question - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Is this card compatible with the Asus Transformer Prime?

It is rated UHS-I, and I remember a friend of mine told me it's not advisable to use UHS cards on non-UHS devices! And I have not idea if the TF Prime is one..
If the above isn't compatible, how about this one?

Btw, for those interested, as you can, there is a huge price reduction for the 64 GB Micro SD Cards...

If you google "UHS-1 compatibility" your first hit says:
An SDXC UHS-I card will work in any SDXC compatible device at lower speeds, but to take advantage of the UHS-I speed, a UHS-I compatible device is essential.
I already ordered one 64gb and two 32gbs!

Hi! I was interested in uhs-i cards to use them with data2sd. How did those cards perform? Is our Prime compatible with uhs-i or not?
Thanks!

I have the card posted in the first link. It's 64 GB and UHS-I. Got it about a year ago when I first got my prime. I was a little worried, but had other devices that could use it instead...so I figured why not. It works fine for me and has been working to this day.
EDIT:
I have really done any performance testing. But I haven't noticed any problems. It may or may not be worth the extra money for speed, but I was interested more in the capacity anyway.

Well, I was specifically interested in performance with expensive Extreme Pro cards.

Your question is slightly different than the OP. He was just asking if the cards worked. I was replying to his post. Because I noticed your post afterwards, I added some notes that I don't know. I also don't have an Extreme Pro card, which you explicitly didn't mention in your first post Also,

Asks two questions...if the tablet is compatible AND how they perform. I answered the second question. And the performance question did not explicitly state anything about Extreme Pro cards. The expectations that someone would know you meant that without explicitly stating so, in a thread unrelated to the topic is misleading at best. So...if you are being so specific AND asking a(t least one) question technically separate from the OP, another thread is probably in order.

Yes, my mistake. I came here thinking UHS-I were the same as Extreme Pro. Now I know they are not.

No worries. I know that it's a little screwy how each company indicates speeds and model names for their (micro) SD cards. For Sandisk, the Extreme Pro, Extreme, and Ultra cards are all UHS-I, I believe. If I recall correctly, the speeds Sandisk claims are 95MB/s, 45MB/s, and 35MB/s, respectively.
Note, if the device's SD card reader doesn't support a speed that high, then you will never get the speed that the card is capable of. Rather, you would only get the maximum speed of the device. I'm not exactly sure how fast the TF201's speed is...but I'm sure it's documented somewhere (sorry, I'm too lazy to find it at the moment).
I finally had some time to get to the point about performance. Hopefully, this will help you a bit.
TF201 - AndroWook v2.2
SD - Sandisk Ultra 64GB microSDXC UHS-I
App - A1 SD Bench

Write: 9.47MB/s (not long test)

Internal memory benchmark:

RAM benchmark:

It is theoretically possible to have better SD card speeds (with Extreme and Extreme Pro) if the hardware supports it. But if not, I might have already hit the maximum and be limited by it. Not sure either way. But hope the speed readings help!
Ultra is a great price and still fast. The two Extreme cards tend to be more geared towards video or high-speed photography - the Extreme Pro is quite expensive comparatively, and I would only recommend it if you really, really need it for your device. It will only save you milliseconds for most transfers...maybe seconds if you are copying/writing literally the entire card at one time. Of course, as long as a device supports these speeds, you will also benefit somewhat from read/write transfers to your computer/tablet/etc.

Well, I wanted to test data2sd on a fast microSD card because I want to get a fluid device. It gets freezed many times when working with it (in example, doing something while updating apps from the play store), and I read elsewhere it was caused by the very slow internal memory. So I suppose the faster the microSD I use, the faster the device will be.

It works, I have AndroWook 2.3 now and is running smoothly, far better than the internal sd . I'm running Data2SD with a 32GB Sandisk Ultra SD Card.
There are some discussions about the speed of different sd cards, It seems it has to do with random access speed.
What manufacturers state on their devices are secuencial access speeds.

largest memory card supported ?

Hi All
Just ordered my new o2 orbit 2. Upgrading from my orbit 1.
I'm assuming it's still a tiny micro-SD card. Does anyone know what the largest capacity card that is supported by the orbit 2 ?
Jeff
how about something like ?

Theoretically the HTC Polaris can support MicroSD up to 2GB and MicroSDHC up to 32 GB cards. Anyway in this moment the maximun capacity I've seen is MicroSDHC 8 GB cards (I've a 8 GB Sandisk and it works perfect), so don't worry...

Guess what you get if you search for 'memory card size' on the polaris forums ( advanced search ) ?
Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms
It doesn't even pick up my new post.
I did search before I posted, always do. Sorry if you find it dull that i've posted a question that I could not find an answer to but that's what I thought these forums where for...
The 6GB card you linked to will be fine, and importantly it is supplied with an SDHC capable reader for the USB slot on the PC.
The Orbit 2/ Polaris can go up to a capacity of 32GB (if you can find cards this large at the moment they would be very costly) - 8GB are certainly available and I have seen 16GB is about to be released (might already be available, at a price) - Mike
MicroSD SDHC drawbacks?
Considering operation specifically for the Touch Cruise, are there any reasons to forgo (to do without) the additional capacity of the SDHC to gain greater than class 4 or 6 speeds (ie: sandisk ultra II microsd with read/write speads of 10/9 m/s)? Would these greater speeds help significantly with video playback or rendering pictures, or would one advise that the difference is negligible and definitely not worth giving up the excess storage potential?
I bought an 8GB Sandisk microSDHC class 4 (with microreader included) for 52 euros. Installed Tomtom Maps of Western Europe on the card and several movies (created with CloneDVD Mobile). Tomtom 6.032 as well as the movies played with Coreplayer 1.1.3 are running smooth. Hence class 4 should be fast enough.
Thanks
Appreciate the comment. I'll have to check out that clonedvd mobile software.
i bought an 8gb sandisk one on ebay for 45$. i was dissapointed though that the built in "all in one" card reader on my crappy ass dell xps m1210 laptop can't read sdhc. still a good purchase though, filled up to 6 gb so far with music and gps maps, etc. i do not notice any performance issues with sdhc.

The fastest speed of Sandisk MicroSd SDHC is class 4, wonder where you did find Ultra II?
Applications like Tomtom will run better (smoother) using a faster MicroSD card, the fastest speed I could find so far is Class 4. As soon as there is a faster card available I will go for it, as long as it is at least 8GB.
I've seen 12GB ones for sale. Would say TC can't use more than class 2, f/s video doesn't use that much!
There's plenty threads about problems recognizing 8GB cards tho, that suddenly it ;becomes; 2GB?

I use the same card and I am happy with it, however, an application like Tomtom is depending on a lot of data transfer between the card and the application. I contacted Tomtom to figure out how to get a smooth working screen and the answer was, processor speed and data transfer speed of the card. In my previous equipment, a Mio A201 PDA, I replaced the 60X SD card with a 150X SD card and Tomtom run much smoother.

64 gb micros....unbelievable

Has anyone seen this? http://tinyurl.com/ybz2qfd
man that's crazy, although the 64's won't work with g1, I think its expandable capacity is only 32gb, but that's still big! Not sure of the class #'s on these bad boys, but I'm sure if there aren't any 6 or 10 class versions available yet it won't be long!
EDIT: nevermind, they're all 32's.....the 64gb has something to do with flash or whatever, IDK
32gb is the addressable limit of the SDHC standard.. when 64gb cards appear they will be SDXC, which means no current hardware can use them. Awesome.

As I'm a newbie, I can't post external links.... but apparently CAN post links where "http" have been changed to "hxxp". I spotted this link earlier today, from Morgan Computers - a BIG hardware-clearance company in New Oxford Street, London. £51 for a 32Gig SDHC card.
" The 32GB SDHC memory card is German made, leading edge technology at its best! It also comes with a lifetime manufacturer warranty.
The 32GB SD Card offers high storage capacity with a write speed of 10MBytes/s and a read speed of 20MBytes/s. It is ideal for new generation digital camera and other applications with SDHC cards slots.
Compatible with All SDHC devices
32GB stores approx 1200 x 10MP Photos, 545 Hours of MP3
May be in Eco Friendly Bulk Packaging
*Please Note: SDHC cards will only work in devices that are compatible with the Higher SDHC Specification cards"
I'm going to invest in one of these for my (new!) Desire - my two G-1's will have to continue to make-do with 8 Gig Sandisk TF cards.
You let us all know how that works.

I have two 32GB SDHC's, one is class 2, the other class 6.
The class 2 works but it's insanely slow and it consumes a lot of battery due to the extra hot time required for reads and writes.
The class 6 is extremely fast and doesn't cause noticeable battery drain.
So am I correct in assuming that the higher the class number, the faster the performance & lower the power usage?

Meh. Until there's a PAE firmware released for the device. Like how a 32bit OS can only handle 4GB RAM until you enable PAE. (In windows, you can simply "turn it on", in linux you need a kernel with a PAE module enabled)
PAE, or Physical Address Extension, should allow for a 52 bit limit on physical memory but only supports a 48-bit virtual address space. 4 × 10245 bytes, or 4 Petabytes and 256 × 10244 bytes or 256 Terabytes, respectively. (What that means is, if the hardware doesn't support 52 bit addresses natively, then they highest capacity that can be reached via PAE is 256 Terabytes through virtualization.)
What does that mean for an android device? A PAE Kernel Module could be created to allow for addressing of more than 32 Gigabytes, how far past 32 Gigabytes? That I don't know. I would assume at least somewhere in the realm of 128-256 Gigabytes. I doubt there will ever be a MicroSD card at that capacity though. By the time we see affordable solid-state storage as small as MicroSD with a capacity over 64 Gigabytes it is unlikely that MicroSD will even still be around, and I doubt anyone will still be using the G1 anyway at that point. We're talking another 4 years or so, making the G1 an antique by technology standards.
tl;dr version: Once 64GB cards are affordable enough for it to be practical to put the time and effort into a firmware mod (kernel module, etc) for an android version of something resembling PAE, you can expect -someone- will figure out a way to enable 64GB usage in the G1.
I think we're gonna see faces like this: all the time, when it comes to electronics industry... I can still remember my first Intel 486 with a few MB HDD!
Man one of these would be nice!
For me 6gb is enough..
For music etc i have a mp3 player!
Here we are 2 years later, 256gb micro sd cards are just starting to appear on evilbay.
Also USB thumbdrives that can handle up to 512gb cards
I used my sandisk 64gb sdxc in my G1 with no issues !

Which SD card?

Does it support Sandisk Ultra II, or SDHC and is that faster than class 6?
edit: is this okay?
http://www.play.com/Electronics/Ele...com-8GB-SDHC-Class-6-Memory-Card/Product.html
SDHC refers to an extension to the basic SD specification, allowing higher capacities. Hero supports SDHC upto at least 32GB, going on what I've read. I have an 8GB class 6 card.
Ultra xxx this & that is marketing bull with no standardised meaning in respect of performance. From what I can find via google, the Sandisk Ultra II is either class 2 or 4 (or possibly either depending on exactly which card you have).
The class system is a standardised classification of read/write speeds. Always check a card's class.
Is that card (Sandisk) ok? Depends what you want it for. If you intend to install apps to your card via, say, A2SD, I'd say no. Always get a class 6 for this, but it's a matter of personal choice. The standard doesn't imply this but collective empirical evidence also suggests higher class cards tend to be more reliable.
As to the linked card on play.com, it looks ok. Even the reviews seem reasonable, as long as you aren't inflicted with a broken lock tab a few earlier customers report.
TBH as long as you stick with 8GB class 6, as of the current date, you're at the sweet point for capacity-&-performance : price ratio. I bought one recently - think it was Transcend & about the same price.
OK, I think I'll buy that then. The only reason I want it is because at the moment videos always lag on my 2GB class 2 that came with it.
Thanks.
Micro SDHC
HTC Hero supports Micro SD HC and not the standard SD card. So check that before you buy. Im using Transcend 8GB Micro SDHC Class 6 Ultra. Works like breeze.. Also check 16 GB ones coz the price must hv come down.
Oh, so sorry - I didn't notice the card he linked to was not a Micro SD
Hell, that's the second time I've done that - I actually ordered the wrong size on one occasion. I hope this doesn't cost the OP. Even if ordered, they should take a return within 7 days, by law (in the UK, at any rate).
[Edit:] This is an ok deal.
As long as the micro as is class 4 or better then you should be ok with what ever you buy but give eBay a miss a lot of faked memory card and memory stick sizes comming from places like China and the like

Anyway,... I found two good prices,...
Samsung 8GB Micro SD Memory Card - £13.49
Its only a class 4, but speeds in the comments are ok:
Speed (read) 15MB/sec
Speed (write) 6 ~ 7MB/sec
And doesn't this sound interesting,... "Features:- Waterproof - Innovative epoxy moulding compound tech helps over 24 hours in sea water- Shock proof - Survives high pressure, including the crush of a 1.6ton automobile- Magnet-proof - Resists over 13 times the magnetic force of home theater speakers- Elegant Package- Content Protection- Faster Performance"
The 2nd one is what CAULI had found, only slightly cheaper,...
Transcend 8 GB Class 6 microSDHC Flash Memory Card with adapter - £13.99
One customer states "I was getting write speeds of over 6MB I think the fastest was something like 6.70MB per second!"
BUT
Another says "Write speed with this card is the slowest of the lot, barely creeping above 5.3MB/sec"
Hmmmmm,....
Any more advice anyone?
I recently purchased the Samsung 8GB Micro SD class 6 Memory Card from play.com for use in my Hero and it works great with Apps2SD
Thanks for the tips everyone
There's always ebay... I got my 8gb on there for £6 inc. p+p, you can never beat an ebay deal...

I have both the 64 GB Sandisk Extreme Plus and the 64 GB Samsung Pro. The only 633x card I don't have is the Lexar.
The Sandisk Extreme Plus is a bit quicker on reads (65MB/s) but a bit slower on writes (30MB/s)
The Samsung comes in at 50MB/s, sometimes getting up to 60MB/s on reads and consistently gets +40MB/s on writes, the quickest I've seen is about 45MB/s
These figures were tested using A1SD bench in phone, (Z2 seems to have an excellent SD card controller) these cards go much faster using a proper USB3 converter into a computer. The Samsung sustains a steady 70MB/s write speed and the Sandisk comes in at about 60MB/s write when tested in Windows 8.1
The Ultra is definitely a large step below, and the 128GB Ultra card is even slower.
With that said, I like the Samsung Pro and it's what I use in my device.

It seems as though the S5 (and definitely the S4 before it) suffers from a slower SD memory controller. I was actually surprised the Z2 could pull off the numbers it did, they are very fast speeds. I will say on the S5, if they're getting lower numbers, it's not because it's memory card limited. Both the Sandisk Extreme Plus and Samsung Pro UHS-1 cards are excellent and you really can't make a bad decision.

http://www.mymemory.co.uk/Micro-SDX...Android-Micro-SD-(SDXC)-Class-10-UHS-1-30MB_s
I didn't manage to find a lower price for it in UK...
even though I'm not in UK it arrived in 5 working days...so I think in UK it's delivery times are around 1-2 working days.
intersecting
I was thinking about the Sandisk Extreme Plus 64 GB and Sandisk Ultra 128 GB but since I'm not using that much apps as I did on my 64 GB iPhone I decided to get the Extreme Plus also because of the huge difference in read/write speeds compared to the Ultra.
I didn't experienced any problems with the card. The only disadvantage is that I cannot use it in my tiny thumb drive since it only supports microSDHC but in fact I never needed it yet since Android supports MSC and with the tiny USB-microUSB cable that came with the SWR10 SmartBand everything is fine

There is Sandisk Ultra 128GB and Extreme 64GB and Extreme Plus 64GB. I believe the card reader on z2 should not support the Extreme Plus speed(80MB/s read & write) so you just need to get an Extreme 64GB(40MB/s read & write). The Ultra ver should be around 40MB/s read with only 10MB/s write.
Basically, the read speed on z2 on Ultra/Ext/ExtP is just about the same, the huge different is only at write speed. If budget isn't a concern and think about future upgrade like z3/z4 probably would support higher speed, you can just get the Extreme Plus.
How do you all use it?.....fat32 or is it working with ntfs?
Try EXFAT
Sent from my AWESOME Xperia Z2!
Samsung Pro all the way, Sandisks are just a nightmare and are avoided at all costs over in asia

Exfat is great, mines a 64gb Samsung evo. But you wont be able to see it in certain ROMS.
The ones that I tested were:
-CM11 Sabermod
-PA Sabermod
-CrDroid
-Vanir? (I think.)
All the rest work fine with it (for me) including stock and stock based ROM's.
Ok thanks for the info, right now I'm with stock rom and working fine.

I have the Sandisk Extreme Plus 64GB, the Ultra 128GB and Samsung Pro 64GB. Benched all three and the Ultra is definitely the slowest by a good margin. The Sandisk Extreme Plus was slightly quicker on reads than the Samsung (50Mbps read / 40 Mbps write) , but the Samsung was a bit quicker on writes (45Mbps read / 45 Mbps write). The Samsung seemed to be more consistent as well. This was using A1 SD Bench. Not going to swap out cards and run them all again so you'll just have to take my word for it.

What sd card should I get?

I'm looking for either a 128gb or 256gb micro sd card and I want to have the same experience as using the internal storage for recording 4k/superslowmo and using apps on sd cards.
But I don't want to overspend either, I don't know up to what speeds/classes the phone can utilize.
There's cards like Samsung evo plus 128gb for 60euro, cards like lexar 1000x 128gb at 95 euro with UHS II Bus all kinds of things I got lost in the sea of classes and speeds.
What cards did you guys get and can anyone recommend me something?
I use sandisk ultra 200 gb and no problem @all with 4k
I got a samsung evo select 128gb and it is pretty damn snappy.

I use that also.. I think... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CO48M36/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Up to 95MB/s Read and 90MB/s Write speed with Class 10 and U3 compatibility
that was the fastest card available when I bought it, nothing was faster with high storage. I see 256gb cards now but haven't really looked into any or the specs
I got Samsung Evo+ 128 GB UHS-I U3 (100 MB/s read, 90 MB/s write) for 55 euros (just google MB-MC128GA/EU - NL Samsung site for this card) . There is also 128 GB Adata Premier One UHS-II with read 275 MB/s, write 155 MB/s for ~150 USD. 256 GB version is for 289 USD (amazon) - dunno why, but in Czech it is for ~210$ ^^. In your case, I would go for Samsung
Got the Samsung one now

I'd recommend the SanDisk Ultra 200 GB MicroSDXC UHS-I Memory Card as a good balance between capability, capacity and cost.

Sony 128GB UHS-I Class 10 SDXC
I purchased Sony 128GB UHS-I Class 10 SDXC Memory Card (SR-G1UY3A). Performance is simply awesome. It cost me Rs 5k.
I'm disappointed with XZP's sdcard access speeds, especially when the sdcard encryption is enabled. With my Samsung Evo+ 256Gb I got the following speeds:
About 7Mb/s read/write (with enabled encryption)
And about 70/40Mb/s (read/write) with disabled encryption.
What real speeds have you got?
100MB/s & 90MB/s read & write speeds Evo Select 45 USD http://a.co/3sYajyC

Is this still a problem? I prefer to always have my stuff encrypted and had this same issue, so slow it's almost unusable. Wondering if any of the updates or anything have fixed this issue or not.

Yes, it's still a problem in Oreo. I have up to 10mb/s with enabled encryption.

Have you tried any other micro SDs or just the Samsung Evo+? I was thinking about getting the 2017 one, Samsung Evo Plus 256GB, but it seems like it will probably be the same, I think the only difference between that 2016 version is 10MB/s on Read speed. Would be interesting to see if certain cards do better than others, I would like to know if a A1 rated card also has this problem.
Hey guys. Thanks for all the helpful input. What would you say is the primary benefit of the additional storage of a 128GB to 256GB SD Card? I feel like on other phones without expandable memory, I never really reach capacity on 64GB models. So I probably used more cloud storage out of necessity and just got used to it. What are you guys using all this glorious storage for?

4k por... Oops I mean scientific ebooks etc.
All jokes aside... Having that bit of extra storage can give you the freedom to record, capture and download as you please!
Especially for people like me who hardly use online storage. I have the Samsung Evo Plus 256gb (2017 version) and I have so many 4k HDR10 movies and documentaries stored on it. I also dont have to worry about running out of space by constantly shooting 4k videos.
Having higher storage takes away all the limitations of having to transfer your files whenever you need to download new material.
I'm getting 72mb/read and 40mb/write even though the Micro SD card is capable of achieving higher speeds. This is due to the phone and I hope that android will find a way around this with upcoming updates, unless it's a hardware issue of course.
These speeds are more than enough for regular everyday use as I haven't faced any issues with reading/writing colossal files.
Hope this helps

You had me at 4k por... LOL. But seriously, I have never even seen 4K video let alone shot in 4K, so I am looking forward to checking it out on this glorious screen. Still think I may only opt for 200GB unless I find a really good deal (I will check the model you listed above). Doubt I will be able to even fill that but who knows. LOL. Thanks again.
