[Q] Unlocked SGH-i777 on Tmobile 4G? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I just recently acquired from a trade an unlocked version of the Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-i777 and I am using it for T-Mobile. Is it possible for this phone to receive any higher speed of data besides EDGE? I currently am on the 4G data plan and for some reason the data connection on this phone is slower compared to my previous phone. Thanks!

Dear baby Jesus,
Please grant these people with the ability to search and understand that Google exists.

No....the i777 is only a quad-band phone, it doesn't have the t-mo 4g capabilities. So far the Note is the only Sammy phone I know of that can be flashed to work on the t-mo 4g. The next batch of phones, like the One X and SGS3 are pentaband and should work fine....but for what you've got you're stuck on EDGE.

Nope. The only bands that the phone has compatibility for are the ones that TMo use for Edge. The i777 does not have the hardware to support the 3G bands for TMo.
This has been discussed several times and a search would yield that. As such, Im going to close this thread as the answer has been given and there is no need for any further discussion about this. It the OP needs more answers, he can either post in an existing thread of the same topic or PM me directly... Im also closing this to prevent the trolls from getting their flame on.

[Q] gt-i9100 US 4g access

I have been around the forum for many years now, but am new to Android. I purchased a GT-i9100 in India for work travel between US and there. I have rooted and upgraded to 2.3.4, and applied a new kernel to remove the exclamation point. So, with that said, here is my question:
I am in the US right now, and in an area supported by T Mobile HSPA, but the phone will only connect to Edge. I am PRETTY sure it was only connecting to Edge before I did the work, but I cannot be sure. Would there be anything I did to the phone that would prevent it from getting onto the "4G" network? Is there anything I need to do now to change so it can connect?
I am not sure if this is related either, but I have a Verizon LTE data card, and if I place that SIM in the GT-i9100, it won't recognize it at all. It seems to only see T Mobile and ATT in the US.
I have spoken to T Mobile and they confirmed the 4g availability where I am, and they also reset my network connection, so the issue does not appear to be on my account or with TMobile.
Sorry for the long post, but I have been searching around and can't seem to get my small mind around resolution.
The SGS2 does not work with T-Mobile's 4G bands here in the US. If you want 4G you'll need AT&T.

That's because there is no resolution. As stated in several other threads on these forums (learn to do a search, and there's even one on the main page of Q/A right now) THERE IS NO WAY to get 3G on T-Mobile. The hardware in the phone does not support their 1700MHZ band.
Your 2 options:
1. Buy a T-Mobile phone
2. Switch to AT&T

[Q] To Galaxy S-II (Sprint) from Droid Charge (Verizon)

I am considering moving from Verizon to Sprint (for reasons unrelated any handset I have now or could get). If I move, this means getting rid of my Samsung Droid Charge, which I like a lot, and getting a phone on the Sprint network. As near as I can tell the Galaxy S-II (Epic) is the top of the line phone at Sprint, so that's what I would probably get.
Q. -- Are there any reasons *not* to buy a Galaxy S-II (Epic)?
Q. -- It looks like there's a cagillion ROMs for Galaxy S-II. Will all of them work on Sprint's version of it (the Epic, which is a CDMA phone)? Or are some ROMs only available for the GSM versions of the handsets?
Q. -- I've never used ICS, but I suppose that I'd install an ICS ROM. Which one or two is considered the best (favoring stability over speed)?
Q. -- I've been running a wireless tethering app on my Droid Charge, instead of paying Big V thirty bucks a month for tethering privileges. Assuming that I root a Galaxy S-II (Epic), will I be able to tether from it, without getting nabbed by Sprint? Will I need an outside app to do that or will any rooted Galaxy S-II do this?
Thanks in advance.
A. Sprint may be getting the Galaxy Nexus soon. If you like the phone, that may be one reason not to buy the SGS2. New phones are coming very soon within the months.
A. All roms here in the i9100 section will NOT work the Sprint SGS2. Check out the Epic 4G section of XDa:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=713
A. Ask the question there regarding a good rom. It may be suggested to use a gingerbread rom for better stability.
A. You can try using certain apps in google play for tether. Again, just confirm with the epic 4g section if sprint watches this or not.
Thank you, Kaze105.
The Droid Charge has one forum for its GSM and CDMA versions, so I didn't think to look for a different forum for the Epic variant of the Galaxy S-II. Sorry to post in the wrong place, but thanks for the info.
Would the Nexus, once available, be considered superior to the Galaxy S-II (any variant)?
FYI, Sprint SGS2 is actually the Epic 4g Touch. It's forum is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1281.
As far as comparison to the Nexus, depends on your point of view. Nexus has no external sd card slot, but does come with AOSP Android, so no TouchWiz. Screen is different as well, as well as camera. It's a subjective thing.

ATT Note hacked to Tmobile use Tmobile Note Radio?

I have an original ATT Note that was hacked to use T-Mobile with a Saurom Rom .....not sure which Radio....
My question is when T-Mobile releases their version next month can my original hacked Note be rehacked with the new T-Mobile ROM and radios?
Or do I have to restore the ATT files and sell to an ATT customer...then buying a new T-Mobile Note?
thanks for the help....

yep that's what I thought the answer would be....just hate to take a $ hit on it which I no doubt would...plus with Note 2 coming out soon it would be nice to be able to use the one I have with the real T-Mobile Rom and Radio....until the Note 2 comes out....

Is it because no developer will be working on it or what?
I dont think the t-mobile radio alone will help. But, if a replacement speaker/anntenna assembly becomes available, that should do the trick.
IIRC the phones are internally different. At least the antennas are. Thats the weak point of the at&t model. Personally id sell yours and get the one specifically madefor AWS. Plenty of people will want yours (LTE). Not everyone will want a tmobile branded phone.
Pretty sure the tmob phone will have superior AWS reception

Correct me if I'm wrong but T-Mobile is supposed to be rolling out with LTE next year, will the att note support that LTE since the phone supports it. If that's the case I will stick with the att note in hopes that I could get LTE.

Going to go for the T-Mobile Note
I guess I'm convinced that selling the ATT version and just buying the new T-mobile Note is what I'll do..............I figured that was the wisest thing from the start but was curious as to the "why's"........
I'm on T-Mo with the note too, but have come to the conclusion that I'll hold off for the note 2, assuming it comes to T-Mo, and if not then I'll get the T-Mo note later. I'm basing this on the marginally acceptable d/l & u/l speeds I'm getting and that 90%+ of the time my data use is on wifi anyway.
Just sharing another T-Mo users thoughts.
T-Mobile Note....Wait or Not
[My download and connectivity issues are such that without wi-fi dialing my service at home is unpredictable and marginal....so looking towards T-Mobile having their own Note makes waiting for Note 2 not a good option unless the ATT Note I'm using could be flashed again with updated radio and perhaps ROM.
Was hoping that taking those from the new T-Mobile Note would be possible, but if not then I'll have to go the buy-sell route and move my ATT version as soon as the new one is out and in my hands.
Even with this fix: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/galaxy-note-i717-hacked-to-work-on-t-mobile-3g4g/ you are getting poor results? I am thinking of getting a used note to use with my t-mobile 2 year plan, I will probably not going to be able afford the "no contract note" even if its released for t mobile soon...
I'm getting 3-10mbps average and that's when I'm NOT on wifi. I really see no reason to why you would sell your current note for a newer phone but with the sake exact specs at such a higher price. Wifi calling would be the biggest reason and 42mbps? Even with my galaxy s2 on T-Mobile I hit 5-12mbps all day. But I use data only for BS poker, Facebook and BS like that. I don't see at all why u would bother switching especially if its only to flash roms ans radios. Several threads talk about getting the tmobile galaxy note radio working on the att version.

I have Sprint Galaxy S II can it work on Verizon?

The question is simple. My old Fascinate screen is slowly breaking and I got a free phone so I figured I try. Besides the obvious and unmentionable would it require a custom rom or flashing for it to be accepted by verizon or could I used forced verizon roaming on current rom?

This phone (the I9100) is a GSM phone that doesn't even work on Sprint's CDMA network.
Go to the forum for the Sprint Galaxy S II (also known as the Epic 4G Touch) to ask your question... though I think the answer is "maybe", if you can find a device to use as a donor for the ESN number. And on top of that, I don't think you'll get very good data speeds with a Sprint phone on the Verizon network. But I'm not positive on how CDMA phones work though.

[Q] Is it possible to use T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note on AT&T, Voice and Data?

If you get a T-Mobile version of Samsung Galaxy Note (original), and sim unlock it, can you use it on AT&T network? How would be data speed? Edge only?
Re: [Q] Is it possible to use T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note on AT&T, Voice and Data?
Its only possible for those who take the time to search and educate themselves.
You will probably not like my statement, but I mean it in the most professional manner.
Just a basic Google search of using tmobile note on att network gives lots of help.

Really? I just did "a basic Google search of using tmobile note on att network" and guess what? Instead of getting "lots of help" I got NOTHING of that sort. Lots of reviews and such, oh yeah, there's something about using att note on tmoble network, just the opoosite of what I want to do.
Mods, please close the thread.
Re: [Q] Is it possible to use T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note on AT&T, Voice and Data?
Yes, you can sim unlock and use an ATT sim....however, you will only get Edge.

Here, let me break it down for you.
All those pages you mentioned (35 pages) about using att note on tmobile all say the same thing:
Unlock phone.
Flash t-mobile radio
Input APN
You want the same thing, but opposite networks:
Unlock phone
Flash at&t radio
Input APN
My apologies. Since you were a member of a development forum I thought you could piece things together. Maybe in the future, let people know you're not very knowledgeable. Everyone here gives very explicit help for newbies.
Why not head over to the t-mobile note forum. I looked over there and probably 1 out of 5 posts in the Q and A was your Q.
Id trade you my att galaxy note for your tmobile one.
I hate having to have a data plan, with the tmobile version I could stick to talk and text. Also this way you wouldnt have the hassle of getting data working.
let me know,I can send pics and stuff.I would also be willing to send first since im kinda new here and cang be vouched for yet.
