[Q] Trouble unlocking i777 after root. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I have root, the first time it froze and didn't sent a test correctly. So I tried it again using Super one. Now I have superuser. Tried both apps on the market and neither one seem to have worked thus yet.
When I try Herolz Galaxy s unlock It is unable to copy EFS, All it says is Done, Error, Not saved. And yes there is an SD card present.
The GS2 unlocker also available on the market will fart around for over 5 minutes and say unlock code not found.
What gives am I doing something wrong? I have tried it with the sim in and with it out. Using Family mobile from Walmart, so I am guessing Tmobile sim card.
Please give me some other root around this.

I didn't know ti wasn't stock. LOL . I just bought it used from a shop here yesterday as am upgrade from gs1. Could you possibly direct me in the right direction as I am unsure what part you are talking about mot being stock.
Than ks in advance

you know you'll only get Edge on Tmo bands.
KH7 is stock, but you stated you have root. Did you do it? if not then check the android Development forums on how to get back to stock. and start the root proccess again.

I got the root through superoneclick. It seemed it did ok as the secong time I went through it said it was already rooted. as for the crappy internet it won't really matter here as we don't even have 3g here in this town for t-mobile anyhow.
if I un-root and re flash back to stock just using the button press combo work? Any why does it only get edge on tmobile?

Unroot and back to stock would require Odin/Heimdall.
Only gets Edge on Tmo because its an at&t phone. different bands for 3g.
I have used Super One Click in the past, but its just easier to flash a rooted kernal in Odin/Heimdall, then flash a custom ROM via CWM.
Back to stock is mainly because SuperOneClick is an old tool. and then starting fresh with the latest.
But I had no need to unlock my phone, but from what I've heard its very simple, and most dont have any issues. using the app from the market

I am not afraid of ODIN. I have done that in the past but I did have a huge problem with the GS1 installing an older kernel. I just about bricked the phone. I had to use the HEimdall or what ever it was to get back in it.
On these phone with a custom kernal and rom will it automatically unlock the phone? I am just afraid of using the wrong one and in this particualr section I am sure as to where to go. It doesn't give a whole lot of detail and with the cryogen mod thing it is getting places where I am not sure if I want to really try that. I would but the information is spaced out so much I am afraid of missing something and buggering everything up. What should I have to worry about when doing this?
Also it is the software unlocking I am having problems with.

Custom kernal will not unlock the phone to be used on a network other than at&t.
Software unlock? assuming you mean using s/w to unlock the device, yes thats the way i understood this thread. I cant really tell ya much about that, but i have heard that its easy and works fine, which is why you should go back to stock first, to get rid of anything messy leftover from using an old rooting method.

You're probably fine as is. Look in Settings | About Phone. If you are stock UCKH7 it should read something like -
Android version 3.2.4
Baseband version UCKH7
Kernel version 2.6.35.7
And why does it only get edge on tmobile?

AT&T hardware handles different frequencies than T-Mobile hardware. It's a limitation of the phone's capability to receive the signal.
Try this thread for unlocking the phone.

FIXED!!
Stupid busy box was causing errors. re-downloaded it from the market and installed. Whoalla, unlocked. WTF.... Stupid phone. HAHAHA Thanks...

Trouble Unlocking After Odin Root of
I rooted my phone using Odin and the Siyah-v3.4.2-nomswap-I777.tar file in the PDA. The phone passed, and it reloads with the triangle on the start up as expected. However, it then says "enter network lock control key". It has nothing to do with the sim, as the sim works in another phone. I have done the process several times, running odin back to the original factory settings with I777UCLE5_I777ATTLE5_I777UCLE5_HOME.tar.md5
Could someone please tell me how to get the phone unlocked?
I have done this process before with another i777 phone, and it worked fine.

[Q] hexEdit, sgsUnlock, generate Unlock code, oneclickRoot -- Still stuck

Hi,
I have bought two phones from craiglist.
1. Captivate, and
2. Vibrant.
Both are locked. I did read forums before buying, and to me it looked i will be able to unlock. After 4 days of experiments and trails. I feel stuck, exhausted and also screwed.
Mine 1st worry is to get both of them unlocked, and 2nd is to get them rooted.
When i bought the Vibrant, it was already rooted on 2.1 eclair. I tried sgslock.apk (latest) to unlock, but no codes found using both root and unroot option. I read in one thread that sgsUnlock works better with froyo.
I followed the instructions at to install froyo on both the phones.
1. w w w . pathikshah. com/blog/install-android-2-2-froyo-galaxy-s
This froyo build is with prefix I9000XXJP2.
The installation process is straight forward, run Odin select all the files PDA, Modem and CSC. Select the other downloaded PIT file (link on the same page).
Press the Start Button. Wait for the device to reboot into froyo.
What it did.
This installed froyo, the froyo looked stock
Ques 1 - What does stock mean? straight from the google, without bloatware.
Tired to do lot of things to get the vibrant and captivate rooted. But nothing worked.
The funny observation is it reverses the functionality of Vol+ and Vol- keys and makes the Power Button function-less, during the recovery screen. So, after the reboot, first i have to use vol+ (up) button to scroll down, after that to select i press power button which doesnot respond to any selections. So none of root patched reboots were installed. It hasppens for both the phones.
Ques 2 - Does it mean, the build i am using I9000XXJP2 is bad. Another observation it show Recovery 3e, whereas on all the forums i see talk about 2e.
Ques 3 - Do i have to get to Recovery 2e. If yes, then how?
I tried sgsUnlock on both the phones. Latest version and the older version.
So, the SgsUnlock cudnt have any root privilege to do a actual "root generate code".
Then I tried various one click solutions,
a. Generate windows unlock
b. super one click
c. Various version of Generate windows unlock
d. adb methond, but i am not sure if i am doing it right.
The SuperClickOne unlocked the captivate, i am really glad but terribly tired with vibrant. SuperClickOne didnot root the captivate. Its "Unlock Captivate" tab did the job.
Ques 4a - The unlock code now I have for captivate, will it remain the same for every new android I install later. I mean will it bother me like Iphones, after every update my baseband will be locked, and then all the trauma again.
Ques 4b - Or is it unlocked forever. Even if it is somehow locked again, the same code with do the unlocking.
Ques 4c - SuperOneClick -- Does not have a " vibrant unlock" tab like "captivate unlock" tab. Is their any other application which does a vibrant specific unlock, or a sure-shot vibrant unlock?
Please advice, how to
i - unlock vibrant
ii - install right froyo on vibrant, and root it.
iii - install right froyo on captivate, and root it.
iv - i am even open to install modfied froyos, if i am able to do the above 3.
Thanks a lot in anticipation.
May I make a suggestion, however I don't know if it will solve your problem.
I think after the JI6 OTA, the unlock app no longer worked.
Would it be posssible to use ODIN, to flash your phone back to stock JFD, then run the unlock app, and get your unlock code! Then you can flash your phone to the most recent update after getting the code.
Maybe it will work? Trick the system by downgrading!
Yes that is what i am also trying to do. I am looking at the safest bet, i mean install eclair or froyo which is unlockable. Get the unlock codes for vibrant. And later install the latest build. Can please some one post the link for the stock build.
i am looking at "http :// forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475".
any other recommendations. Thanks.
vibrant rooted on 2.1 with baseband T959UVJFD
copied the nv_data file to desktop, found SSNV. Totally lost to decipher data from it. Can anyone help.
any help...?

I just did that, and the unlock does not work. I used the file at h**p://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475
Is their a reason the nv_data file might corrupted.?
I believe any phone with JI6 or later will not be able to use sgsunlock. Even if you go back to stock JFD. There is a work around though. If you go to the Bible in the developers section there is a link to where helroz was able to get around this. I think the link says JI6 SimUnlock Fix or something like that.

Another suggestion. Are you a T-Mobile customer? T-Mobile customers, of at least 40 days, get free unlock codes. They might even give you an unlock code for the captivate if you intend on using it on their network. (a rep once told me they can get any unock code for their customers, but for non-tmobile phones the process just takes longer) maybe the rep was wrong...but its worth it for the captivate also.
That is your best bet, and it is free.
Got the unlock code from T-mobile. Nothing else worked. Thanks.

Need Help Please Bricked Note i717 Yesterday

I have a Galaxy Note i717 from AT&T that I rooted. Worked great.
Yesterday I upgraded to ICS via Kies. Worked great.
Then I proceeded to root it again using odin.
Unfortunately even after all the things done it now will not boot up at all.
All I get is the S a m s u n g logo. I can put it into boot mode and the computer see's it but nothing more.
If anyone can point me to any rom/bootloader/ etc. I would be most grateful.
Or just let me know what to do and where to get roms. I did search and there are many for the i700.
I guess I need a bootloader and rom right?
Sorry folks. Point me somewhere else will have to get another phone.
T h a n k s ...
Others would tell you to look in the dev section for the stock rom (its usually called something like "in case of brick) I've had issues issues getting it to work but Im certain it was user error as to why it didn't work for me. But another option that I think could work would be to get your phone into download mode and run the ics upgrade thru kies again. You'll lose everything in your phone but I think it'll get your phone up and running again. But before you do any other that...did you make a nandroid back of? Or have you downloaded any roms to your phone because if you did you can just enter cwm and reflash any rom you may have or just flash your backup, backups are so important when doing these sort of things, saves a lot of head aches.
Edit: after reading your post again it says your phone messed up after rooting, try and re run the root file thru Odin, I kinda sorta remember reading something similar to this were people had issue trying to root. I'll try and find the thread.

this happened due to rooting with the Gingerbread method...so using Nash reply run/reinstall your Official ICS...and to root....
see My Links in red in my signature...go the GNote Super page....you should see what is being used to root the Official ICS...I used it and lots others, there prob more methods out there, but I found this is the easiest and more proven method....
Cant miss the info on GNote page regarding Rooting.
so to recap...since your believe you have bricked your phone...
use the method Nash replied to you with...put into download mode....run the official ics, you will need the model, serial number of your phone...
let us know how it works out for you...

And once you're rooted and all fixed up, enter cwm and create a backup. These are great because no matter what you do to your phone as long as you can enter cwm you'll always be able to fix your phone via backup.

I wanted to mention, I'm not sure how you updated thru kies originally (legit update or emergency update) the method you'll be using this time (if you choose to fix thru kies) is the more or less emergency method. I wanted to mention this because when your in download mode and connect your phone to your PC and run kies, kies will try to connect to your device but will time out over time...it took me 2 days of Q and A before I realized kies won't connect with phone in download mode, but that's OK. Once phone is connected click tools/firmware upgrade and initialization, and as bigjoe said youll than need to input model and serial numbers (all caps) than click OK. You'll have a few prompts afterwards but yo basically on your way to a running phone.

Brick = nothing at all happening on phone.
Samsung logo = bad flash (corrupt file used)
Brick can sometimes be revived with a JTAG device.
Samsung logo means re download file, re read instructions and relevent thread, and redo your work.
Don't be too anxious -you will fix it.
I suggest using Kies upgrade > emerency firmware method. Download mode is the key.

The above process bring the phone back to 100% stock gingerbread.

Thanks all for the replies.
I was able to go to DEV Section and get the full AT&T ICS Rom. Used ODIN to get it back to factory ICS.
Then (with great care ) re-rooted it using ICS root stuff. I have it all in case anyone else needs this route. Else follow instructions above.
Thanks all. I think for now ICS is where this will stay. In fact Gingerbread was good enough except for not being able to use Chrome.

VRALL4 soft bricked my phone. "System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless"
This update bricked my phone and I don't know why. I was watching YouTube videos, went to go pee and came back to a "System software is not authorized by Verizon Wireless" message. This was minutes before I had to leave to work so I just popped my SIM in my galaxy nexus . Anybody know how to undo this? I got no warnings of update. I only found out about the update just now online. it sopped working around 10am pst ,the time of update (at least this was a constant time I found online for it). Im rooted but not unlocked cause I had no desire to change Roms. And thus I am not backed up at all.
Any way to fix without Odin stock flash? I wanted to give up on flashing with this phone. Ugh.
Thanks
Nope. Had the same thing and had to Odin.
It has a bootloader in it. If you guys are gonna mess with your devices, you need to steer clear of OTAs unless given the all clear by those who know.

Exactly my point. I never wanted to mess with this phone. Never even wanted to unlock it. Didnt get an option to update. The screen just popped up.
If I had the option I would of said no since I didnt want to lose root. I need my RootDim app or all go crazy.
But thanks adrnalyne. I've always admired your work but now try and stay clear of all this ROM/kernel business.
If anybody would know what happen I thought you would. Spontaneous Verizon bricking...

I've a feeling its the bootloader, although it shouldn't have been possible if you had a custom recovery. Were you using the stock recovery?
If you did anything besides root your phone, the OTA should have failed at some point in the verification process.

Yeah stock recovery. I've never even booted to recovery. Loved this phone just the way it was. Maybe I'll just Odin tonight after work and lose everything. Is this a Verizon problem or does this screen come up with other carriers? Will this phone work on ATT or T-Mobile? Last straw with vzw. I can't get a concrete answer online. Some say yes some say no

Changing carrier won't stop the annoyances you see with the device. You have to change the device too.
As I mentioned in another thread, all carriers suck. It wasn't all that long ago that ATT didn't allow sideloading.

Causal, TWRP, 4.3 OTA

A while back when I first got my Verizon Note 2, I used Adam Outler's Casual method to root my phone to Stock. I don't mind stock and root mostly for the Tethering.
About a week back the OTA notice hit my phone. I have declined the notice/update twice giving myself time to look for the root update. I found this thread by Beans: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2518704 ........ It seems right but this thread by AdamOutler says not to use ODIN: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2045563
So I am a little confused. I just want the update but don't want to mess up and not have my tethering ever again.... or brick the phone.
As a newbie, it's a scary task. Someone please help point me in the right direction. I just want the 4.3 Stock. If there is a thread for my situation I couldn't find it. I search "casual TWRP 4.3 OTA" and other similar variations.
I can still get to the TWRP 2.5.0.0. I have also downloaded the ODIN and started it... looks simple, but there are no instructions.
Someone please help me...
Thanks

Welp, couple things...
#1 - The link you posted above is the from the Note 3. You want this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2578458
#2, The ROM gets flashed via CWM or TRWP like normal, it's only the radio update that gets flashed via ODIN. That shouldn't affect your current unlock/root status.
#3 - If it is only ROOT you are after, the 4.3 OTA is Rootable, just not unlockable. So if by chance you accidentally take the OTA you should still be able to ROOT and install your Tethering app. You just won't be able to unlock the bootloader and install a custom recovery/rom.

Thanks

I would think long and hard about taking the OTA...although root is available, you may want an unlocked bootloader at some point, and there is no guarantee that is coming to the official 4.3. My guess is that it will not simply because this phone is 18 months old and the skilled developers that put in the time to do things like unlock bootloaders move on to newer devices.
If you managed to use Casual in the past, Odin won't be a problem for you. Below are the steps:
Odin takes about 5 minutes total...its really easy.
Download Odin (it's just a simple windows program). - http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...3&d=1304094576
Make sure you have the latest samsung drivers - http://www.mediafire.com/?hzlnda0l5t8qyes
Download and extract the firmware from the first post in this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2578458
Save whatever 4.3 ROM you choose to your external SD card.
Power down the phone and boot back into download mode (volume down, power and home at the same time).
Open Odin, plug in phone...Odin should recognize the phone and you will see the com port noted in yellow.
Check the PDA box and put the firmware file (unzipped) in the PDA slot. Click start and 30 seconds later you are done. Phone will reboot into recovery at this point.
Then you can flash any of the 4.3 ROMs (including stock) in TWRP (I use 2.5.0.0 too). I have tried them all and Sophisticated 3.0 has worked the best for me...I will be trying beans 23 as soon as it is done.

Thank you so much. Updated and everything seem to work just fine, but after some use it started rebooting. I am going to put on Sophisticated as you suggested. Hopefully, it will be more stable then the stock ROM.
And I can't get the WIFI Tethering to work. Which Tethering app are you using? I have unlimited data... and need to make sure Verizon isn't charging me for no reason.

I had some reboots on the stock rom too...but once I went to the other roms (I tried Nephilium, Sophisticated and N3bula, but had the best results with Sophisticated) and I haven't had one reboot.
As for the wifi tethering, on stock you need to flash the file below (some of the newer roms, including Sophisticated have it baked in).

The reason you ask what? You didn't ask anything. And as it's been stated a million times, no unlock method avaliable and unlikely there will be one.

Eh, he is one of those that puts the question in his title instead of the body of the reply. But as @akellar said, there is nothing available.
Thanks so much for all the help. I got everything working right based on the instructions from this thread. I initially had an issue with the "Wifi Tether" because I was using a 3rd party app. Instead the correct app is the "Mobile Hotspot" app. It might be named differently for other carriers, but for Verizon it is "Mobile Hotspot".
Again thank you for all the replies.
Thank you for Sophisticated v3.
Thank you Adam Outler for the original Casual root.
And Thank you runandhide05 for the "Mobile Hotspot" hack!

[Q] NOTE 3 FAILED ROOT. How to fix?

Ok guys, been using these forums to root phones for a while now. First phone i did was my att s3. hit a few bumps but overall it was a piece of cake. have done several different s3s and a tmobile note 3 with ease. Tried to root my sisters note 3 sprint (SM-N900P) today, and of course, i am having some issues.
I started out by trying to use the cf auto root for the phone in question, and then i get could not do normal boot. so i restart and it just boots into the same screen. I have tried reflashing stock firmware, but it fails everytime fused 2 binary 1. So then i flashed the pit file, which succeeded in letting me turn the phone back on lol, but i still cant use stock recovery anymore. also, if i try to reflash custom firmware now, i get firmware update encountered an issues screen, so i have to take the battery out for a few seconds and put it back in to get the phone to be able to restart.
SO.... I guess my questions are, what exactly went wrong? how do i fix stock recovery if nothing else? and is there a way to unlock this phone without rooting if i cant root after all? because my sister doesnt really care about custom roms, she just needs to be able to use a different carrier.
COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS BELOW PLEASE
any help is greatly appreciated.

And you haven't said anything to us but you don't know how to read .... You haven't said what you flashed and with what Odin etc ... you have given nothing to help fix your problem and there is no unlock besides sprint doing it or you would have READ that too

Well, I fixed it anyway so it doesn't matter. Now trying to install custom recovery, but had issues with that. Guess cwm is not working for this phone correctly. So only way to unlock is pay sprint? And thanks soooo much for your helpful attitude

It amazes me that some people cannot just read a post and move on if they have nothing helpful to say but instead take the time out of their busy lives to slam someone.
You should feel honored.
