Why isn't there a BLACK GS3? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I think the white looks awesome but refuse to get it because I prefer the black bezel for contrast. The blue is just average.. And looks dirty. I think if they launched a black one people would of been less critical. Anyone know if there will be a black one and would it change your opinion on gs3 looks?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium

Could you define average for me.....then count how many black phones vs blue phones there are. I think Samsung staying away from black was an amazing idea.

There has been some talk about a black one maybe coming later, although with Samsung you can not trust "coming later" and they may only be random rumors, nobody knows...
My personal guess is that when/if a 64GB model is released at some point, it will come in black.
That's just me playing the guessing game though.
I was going to get the white one, but I ended up getting the blue in the end. I believe in the likes of Gsmarena when they say that it does look quite nice in person, and not at all like in the official press shots.

Samsung are a bunch of radiate that's why

I agree there are so many blacks out there but it's like the accepted 'norm'... So whilst I appreciate they went with blue to differentiate I would still prefer black. Mind you I'd like to see the blue in person.

25% of the iPhone hardware is Samsung. Given the fact that is the world's best selling model, Samsung is in a win-win situation. Either they sell their phones, either Apple does, Samsung still earns good money so they don't want to lose Apple's business. What's more, this is how they make their parts known (the displays, cpus etc are used in loads of other electronics) and expand their reach. That's why they don't want to cross Apple.

White is the new black. The blue to me is mehhh.

Because Apple invented rectangles, borders and the colour black.

Apparently, "HD" - yes... Although thanks to the upgraded RES/DPI, they had to downgrade from the Plus' "Real Stripe" RGB display back to Pentile.
The next generation phones, after the Galaxy Nexus will then have a true upgrade to Super AMOLED HD Plus which will maintain the high RES/DPI as well a have RGB support again.

Whites look yellow - yes - Fact

I don't even have mine yet and I agree. I played with it for 15 minutes or so yesterday, and now I can't wait to upgrade from my Infuse. And the size is so perfect. I know that the Note will only be able to be replaced by its successor when Samsung releases it. I hope they continue the series, as I will be a Note user for life if they continue it. Hell, I could even go for a slightly larger screen if they manage to figure out edge to edge displays that will fit in a similar sized package. Samsung has nailed the future of mobile devices with this one. Completely secured my loyalty to them through the Captivate, Infuse, and soon the Note. I can't get over how awesome of a device it is, even though I don't have one to call my own yet.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think I agree.
With this type of bulls... going on, I'll never buy any of their products again. They've actually gotten worse over the last few years in multiple ways - the patent wars are just one aspect. They've been alienating long time users by dumbing down not only their computer OS, but other products. In the past you could get several years additional use out of a their products vs competitors, but now they're making them un-upgradeable.
It even goes beyond the militant behaviour like this with the Galaxy Nexus, even to the point of being totally petty. I tried selling a Asus Netbook with their OS installed on eBay, just to see if the police stories were true - they had the listing removed in less than 24 hours.
They're making MS look cool.
Well...
Apple is doing it because they know that in the long run they will be outdone by both the Android software and hardware, in my opinion that has already happened but they know that eventually all the Apple fan boys and girls will realize this and jump ship so rather than stay ahead of the curve they avoid the curve all together by playing these games.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium
They use to have a some good business strategies and were a respectable company. Now they have resorted to hide behind laws instead of operating out in the open. Plus why sue Samsung or even get them involved? Don't they make Apple's processors? Sounds like Apple bought Lucy Koh. Apple should be sued for not being innovative and for being a bad sport. So they might be losing in the mobile races, wow big shocker with the same phone being released year after year, but home computers are still way to stay in the game. I for one think this move will result in negative PR for Apple and hurt sales in the long run. A company can't operate like cowards and no one notice.

Black?

Get this, was just on the phone with a Tmo rep and was about to order the phone. He said, you have a choice of White, Blue or Black... Oh wait, Black isn't out for another few weeks, forget I said that.
I wonder if it's true that they're coming out with a Black version? I can't find anything other than a little picture of a Black GS3 on the internet. If they are, I'm waiting.
as i understood apple is the patent holder for a black bordered phone. I can't imagine Samsung going through the motions again.
I am so weary of apple that I don't care anymore. they do what they apparently must do. I truly like the pebble blue as it comes across as blackish most of the time anyway.

so there is no black version?
nope, there is just a model shop selling a 3d model with a black texture.
Black is coming, at least we got some info on it. I work at a store dealing with phones in Norway, and we actually talked about it today. I doubt it'll be as good looking as the blue though. It's so unique. White it's also stunning, but more ordinary imo.

Now that I look at it again, that may be the blue. I haven't seen it in person.
that's a 3d model, not a real phone
I actually don't think it will look good in black, I think it will take away from the bright colours and 'nature' theme, just my opinion though!
fire is one of the 4 elements. charcoal is the result of it. I don't think it's out of the theme.
I was also looking for a black s3. but truly ador the indefinable blue color I got instead.
In the bleak dutch sunlight and indoors it's very dark. but not quite. for me the illusion of having an edge to edge screen (no high contrast between screen en casing) is important. why I don't care, it is what is is.
will I switch if a black s3 comes out? nope.

Optimus G2 tease?

I watched the LG CES 2013 trailer video thing on youtube, and general speculation is that the G2 will be announced with a 5.5" screen and bumped up specs from our precious G. What are your thoughts? Will it be a Note 2 competitor, or a G replacement? And how do you think it will affect our updates?

It's called competition. The Note phones have proven there is a market for phablets. I'm going to guess you're not studying economics or business.

Then I guess this will blow your mind: http://t.co/91c3vTNA
I believe with LG's newfound success regarding the G, a direct attack on the Note would be fantastic, as well as possibly a new tablet. The G2 would fulfill the phablet competition that currently hardly exists. The LG Intuition is too wide, but a form factor like our G with the larger screen would be fantastic. Add a pen display, as well as having quickmemo, and the Note has real competition. Considering LG Displays is suing over the Note 10.1 in Asia, this may indeed be their plans in a nutshell. As HTC slowly falls (sad but apparently true), it's time for Samsung to have a true competitor in the Android market. I would love to see Motorola to come out of the blue, but that seems doubtful to happen. LG has an opening, and I think they should take it. I've been a Samsung fan, and still somewhat am (the siii disappointed me), but I think nothing makes products better like competition. The iphone is competition of course, but there needs to be android competition, or devices will get progressively worse.

If it is actually 5.5 inches then I don't mind even if it is technically the successor to this phone. Only thing id like in this phone that the g2 has is the 1080p screen and the camera if its any better

Ask the millions of Note 1&2, or for that matter tablet users. Or ask why anyone needs a screen bigger than the 3.5" one Apple first put out.
It's called competition. The Note phones have proven there is a market for phablets. I'm going to guess you're not studying economics or business.

... I'm not talking about tablets. If I was talking about screens in general, I would be complaining about laptops, desktops, and tv's as well. But I'm not. It's a personal opinion, and a personal opinion of a few others, that a phone doesn't exactly need a huge screen. To each his own if they prefer that size. Apple has a ridiculously tiny screen, so I'm not really sure why they were even brought up lol. Considering I'm a girl, I have naturally smaller hands and have no desire to hold a phone that I need to doublefist. And even some men agree, it's too much.
No reason to be so nasty, Butler. (;

Sorry, not trying to be nasty. Just trying to point out that just because you (and for that matter, I) have small hands doesn't mean that everyone does, or that there's only one size that the market wants (as Apple seems to believe). Everyone thought Sammy was crazy for putting the Note out there, but since it and its followup have been very successful, it's only natural that other OEMs want a piece of the action. I'd like the big screen (even if I did have to double fist it), but there's no way I'd be comfortable having that thing in my pocket, and I'll be damned if I'm wearing a holster for a phone.
I'll be honest, I can't reach the whole screen of the OG with one hand, but I don't care. I arrange my icons to be close to my thumb, and use two hands when I have to.
Didn't mean to offend.

I'd rock a holster like a fanny pack. :B
Except not, haha. I guess I'm in luck with the whole small hands + long fingers thing (my grandma has always told me I have piano fingers). My only fears of extending my fingers is that it slips out of my hand and falls on the ground. I have a case, but I still use at least one hand to balance it. Can't get too ballsy with this phone.
No new smartphones from LG announced. The tease was a smart remote. Nothing more.
