Really looking forward to a Sprint leak so we can have a new firmware update actually built for our phones and hopefully a little better radio performance?
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium

eh, mine is doing just fine how it is.

I just recently got stationed in Ft. Gordon, GA and my signal is worthless. Most everyone here is using AT&T and tethering off of 4G while I'm lucky to have 1 bar of 3G. Seriously I can't even stream a 5 minute YouTube video on my phone.
Supposedly there's some girl in my barracks that has a Sprint iPhone who gets good service.
I'm starting to wonder if it isn't my ROM. I'm using the ICS meanROM.

But the leak was built for a carbon copy of our phones. It won't be much different when released officially. If they release radios with the update, you'll still be connecting to the same network.
Just don't get your hopes up for a big difference.

The firmware breaks a lot of stuff. Since the firmware 'update' by freeza I get dropped calls and my 3g connection completely dies until I restart my phone

I had this issue too my RTSP and HTTP settings changed to either 0 or it was blank. I changed it back to the normal sprint settings and I got more bars and a little better data speed.

That has zero effect on signal strength. It might effect data throughput but not signal strength.
I doubt official firmware will boost performance over stock sprint firmware we have now.

Not saying it does but before this I could not get more than one bar at my house where I normally get 3-4 could be something else on Sprint's end but it seemed better after this change.

Are we expecting the leak of the Sprint ROM soon? Did I miss something over the weekend?

Just went back to stock this am and got it also. Maybe this means sprint is updating towers? My 3g was great yesterday, now it's back to sh!tty

Got the update recently too!
Also, quick question about PRL updates... Sprint Zone basically ALWAYS says I have a PRL update and/or Profile update when I go into the "I need help" section. I'm curious as to what this actually does for my (our) service and is it tower specific or Carrier wide...?

Ok, that makes me feel a little better because I've tried it a couple times and the second time I let go for about 30 mins with it being stuck on the "Contacting Network" message and nothing! But if it finally took after some tries for you, I'll keep trying!

Haha don't use sprint zone, its archaic and isn't properly updated, use the about phone tab to check software and carrier versions. But to answers your question, a PRL (Preferred Roaming List) update is carrier wide. When towers are updated or tweaked they roll out a PRL update, normally they do a couple towers and then roll out a update, or else there would be a new PRL update every day! Most PRL updates come from upgrades, like the transition from CDMA to CDMA LTE towers. Even though you prolly won't see much effect from the update in your area, if you ever traveled to a 4g area without the update your phone wouldn't work efficiently, so everyone gets the update. PRL updates also come from tower performance tweaks aswell.

Thanks for the heads up about Sprint Zone and the info about PRL updates. I assumed it had something to do with the network but wasn't exactly sure. I've gotten messages from Sprint recently talking about "A new Network is coming" so that would make sense and I know they've also done some tower upgrades in my area recently.
On another note, is anyone else having issues with doing a PRL update? It has still yet to work and continues to just hang on "Contacting Network" message. When it hangs on that message it totally renders my device useless and I have to power down (or pull the battery).

The messages about the new network are pertaining to Network Vision, sprint is merging all their technologies 3G/4GLTE/WiMax(where available) together into a more efficient spectrum and coverage overlap! Its actually quite an impressive system! At least the PowerPoint was lol, hoping that they deliver what they promise!

I hope they deliver too because it sounds promising. I can't complain too much tho, I get fairly good service most everywhere I go in my area. 4G (WiMax) is pretty limited but I get it where I work and surrounding areas.
Still have yet to have any luck as far as a PRL update goes tho. Oh we'll I guess, I'll try every now and then and if it happens it happens...

No, I'm pretty sure you have to flash stock to update, then flash back to whatever custom ROM you're using.
Easiest way is to have a nandroid of stock, take a nandroid of what you're using, flash the stock, update via "about phone," then restore your custom nandroid.

I use to get full five bars at home using GB, after updated to ICS (SuperSayain rom) I pretty much only getting 3 bars. What I did was in the mobile network setting, changed mode from auto to WCDMA only and so far i've been getting pretty much 5 bar most of the time with occasionally dropped down to 4. hope this works for you too.
I am also having this strange issue. So is reverting to GB the only way or can you just flash the gb radio? Anybody know anymore about this??
Same issue here. At home used to get full 5 bars, now 3 sometimes 4, which is fine as I am usually on WiFi anyway. Problem is I had great signal all throughout my daily commute to work to where there is sections of my drive that I have no signal. Before in that area it would revert to EDGE from 4G and mine is set to auto.
Just believe like everyone else mentioned that it is the ICS radio. Hopefully an update will fix it

No. And to the people talking about modems and odin and.. yea, no. We don't have modems to flash, and odin is just for samsung devices. Until now we couldn't flash a radio if we WANTED to.
You know the iPhone's fix when people were talking about how bad the signal was for the iPhone4? They had been boosting the REPORTED signal strength. So did HTC, so did Samsung, so did.. all of them. You'd drop a call when it showed you had GOOD signal.
Not a single person has posted about having ACTUAL worse issues. The OP said he can make calls and talks about how many bars.
Apple's opinion:
We have discovered the cause of this dramatic drop in bars, and it is both simple and surprising.
Upon investigation, we were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong. Our formula, in many instances, mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength. For example, we sometimes display 4 bars when we should be displaying as few as 2 bars.

People here are having the OPPOSITE problem, it LOOKS like you should have an issue, and you don't.. but people keep posting about it even tho there hasn't been any issues.
This is the ONLY person who had actual signal issues(Weird Interference/Reception Call Issues on my Amaze) I have seen since ICS dropped, and it turned out to be a hair on the contact for the antennae. Read his thread, he methodically checked quality and could answer basic questions - and then he fixed the actual problem.
Edit: I'm not trying to be a jerk, but if someone is ACTUALLY having problems, they actually can't make calls, drop calls where they didn't before, etc.. then there is probably a problem that can be fixed. But unless you are having those issues it is likely that the signal strength you're seeing is more accurate(EXACTLY like the apple quote I put above), they are just doing a better job of SHOWING the actual signal. Which is good, no unexpected dropped calls or BS.

This is one of those threads that is meaningless information or worse because the mods combined the forums and the posters failed to flag their carrier. So-called "signal" issues are carrier-specific.
On my sprint s3 I don't have the "los" bug but signal on this phone sucks. Anyone who tells u different is lying. This may be one of the weakest radios on any phone. My photon would have, 4 bars on sprints network where this one will be roaming

This fits the pattern of other anecdotal reports by some users of Sprint LTE-capable phones, not just the GS3, in some areas.
Since the whole Sprint network is being rebuilt right now on a localized basis, my bet is that these symptoms have something to do with how the new LTE phones interact with the legacy network, or at least with certain regional segments of the network that are under construction right now. Whatever is going on, Sprint is not being forthcoming about the issue.
However, this is a Sprint-specific problem, having nothing to do with the original post, which apparently does not involve Sprint.

New Radios

I just wanna talk about how much i love this phone now. I was on the GB radios(which i though were hotsh*t) and on team venom i was having data drops so i decided to take the latest firmware and after i got it:
HOLY FRICKIN S***.
These radios are absolutely amazing.
I'm in Long Island, New York for vacation and the service isnt that great since its an island. (I was satisfied that i managed to hold a 4g connection on the ferry ride over but that was before i upgraded). When i got to the island data was awful. Very spotty 3g and 1xRTT. Since i upgraded to these awesome radios i've had 4g in places i didnt before and it hasnt dropped yet.
Now onto the next part:
Me vs. My Dad(Rez vs GS3):
So before my little upgrade i was having fun bragging to my dad about how his radios werent as good as mine and how i got 4g when he was stuck on 3g.
Now after I just dominate him. Hes getting really mad and is thinking about taking his phone back to the store to get a new one because he thinks its messed up. Where i held a 4g connection for a span of 20 minutes he had it twice for a span of 7 minutes. I just keep telling him that Samsung radios are awful...
I just thought i'd share how satisfied i am with these radios and how great they are. So if your on the fence definitely take radios, if not the firmware
Yeah, it's an island, but it's not a desert island. It's not like all the cell towers are across the Sound.
What about battery performance? Notice any difference?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
I'm not sure about battery life but I'm definitely getting higher speeds. Before I would get around 15 down and 8 up. Now I'm getting around 35 up and 20 down.... Awesome sauce

It would make sense to have better battery life since your getting and holding better signal therefore your phone isn't having to work as hard. But yeah the ****ty radios on Samsung phones is the reason I can't make the switch to a nexus or a gs3. Whenever I compare to my friends nexus or gs3 I have Way better signal. Now if only HTC gets a move on dropping source, this phone will be perfect

I loved my rezound till i got a gs3 lol. They are both great phones but my rezound just collects dust now. I havent noticed a real difference in service between them. The gs3 works in all the same places my rezound does. The only problem I ever had with the rezound radio is that it will say you have good signal when you dont, like have 2 bars of 4g but cant get any data. I dont think you can always go by what the phone tells you I think the bars lie lol. You want great batt life get a gs3 it gets over double what the rezound does. But to each their own I have both phones and they are both great but that being said my rezound is getting ready for ebay lol.

its not lying. the bars have nothing to do with data connection. the bars are for voice and sms
I agree with poison. It took me days to finally decide to take the full ruu. (I'm s-on did it for hboot and radios) AND the main reasons I did was my WiFi tether its download speed was droppin in and out. Along with my 4g for that matter.. I maybe held three bars all day for mms AND calls. And it was useless to even keep my 4g on. But now with the latest sense 4 kernel the radios from the update And viperrez rom. I'm getting excellent battery life, and I havent seen less than full bars or any 4g fluctuations.. finally remember why I bought this phone to begin with now on to kernel source..

I know how I used to push staying on gb firmware but I think it's time to full go to ics. Also is almost done and the latest firmware is actually good. I hated all the other ones...
The sg3 is a awesome phone. Several friends have them, and I love the screens on them. But I can't live with the Sammy radios. I am on 4g in the middle of of work, and they can barely snag a 3g signal sometimes. Sure my battery may go quicker, but I have no connection issues.

+1! Or 1000! My radio already rocked in Cleveland, but now the battery is lasting longer and it's running MUCH cooler, even when I've had the screen on for an hour! Love it!
S-Off Rocks! Who knows what Rom I'm on today!

[Q] Improve Signal and Data Connection

Does anyone know if there is a way to improve or boost the phone's signal. My phone is rooted, unlocked, s-off, and I just updated all the radios, but the signal and data connection seems terrible. I live in downtown Fort Worth so I would think I would get a good signal but its rare to get full bars and when I step inside of a building it drops to 1 or none. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

I've had Sprint all my life, but it does feel that way, I feel like the phone it self has a terrible time picking up a good signal. I thought updating the radios would fix this, but nothing. It's still bad.
Did you only.update the radios or do the full firmware package?

You can't do just the radios anymore. Captain Throwback pulled the radio-only files some time ago.

Its been a while since I've looked at his OP over there, thanks for the input...
You could always pick up one of these and stick it on the rear cover to be mashed in between contact points. LOL

Stretch the contacts for the antennas under the rear cover. It made a big difference on mine. There is a thread about it somewhere on here, but it's been buried for a long time.
