[Q] Problem with any ICS 4.0.4 stuck at Samsung Logo - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear friends i am a newbie in this and i need your help... I am searching the entire forum a week now and i tried everything without result.
Some solutions and methods that is posted cannot fix my problem...
I am using a Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 with ICS 4.0.3 XXLP2 official a month ago and i have many problems with force closed apps, gps is very slow to trigger etc. So i download many ICS 4.0.4 from here to update my phone and here the problems start.
I used all the explanations methods to update but all the times i have the same problem. My phone stuck at start Galaxy Logo.
I want to explain you to be clear what i did and to reply me where i made mistakes.
I start with odin to get root access and everything was ok.
After that i moved the ICS 4.04 to my sd internal card via usb
I Perform a full wipe by selecting the following from the recovery menu
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Mounts and storage” menu, then select “Format system”
“Install zip from sdcard.”
I locate the zip file and i install it and i make a reboot.....
At this point my SGS2 stuck at Samusng logo and not resposding after 10 minutes of waiting. So i removed the battery and i try to use 3 button to go to recovery without result. So i used volume down + powen button to go to downloading mode and with odin i recover to 4.0.3 again. I used 5 diferrent ICS 4.0.4 and at the same point i have the same results...
So i choose other method like
wipe data/factory reset”.
advanced” and then “wipe dalvik cache”
mounts and storage”, then select “format system”.
Then, select “install zip from sdcard
reboot
the same problem is stucking to galaxy logo
So i tried and this method...
Reboot into recovery
Wipe Data / Factory Reset
Wipe Cache Partition
Install the Main ROM
In recovery go to Advanced
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Fix Permissions
Wipe Cache Partition
Reboot
and again with no result is stucking at galaxy logo....
I tryed to flash the kernel and i get the Kernel Panic Upload Mode...
I used the latest siyal kernel to flash it. To gain access to root i used CWM 5
Where i am making a mistake? I can't understand it.
Please help me to update to ICS 4.0.4 to solve ICS 4.0.3 problems!!
Thanks for your valuable time!
Best regards
Michael

By 4.0.4 do you mean AOSP roms such as cm9? Maybe you flashed the XXLPQ leaked rom which has a bootloader packaged in it then that is the culprit. I remembered back in the early days of cm9 that if you have the xxlpq bootloader it will be stuck in the samsung logo (or was it bootlooping). If you use cm9 then download and flash the attached bootloader on the first post.
REMEMBER: Read first before doing anything, flashing bootloaders may brick your phone. Proceed with caution.

The uptop answer is totally true. You need new bootloader. Not too risky, but risky a bit. Better not unplug the USB at a critical state..

Dont laugh with me but please tell me what is CM9 and from where i download a new bootloader and cm9 and what is the procedure to to that!
If is possible to sent me the instructions how to update my phone i appreciate that a LOT!!!!!!!!!

Best bet for you and safest, first wipe, than flash the latest xwlpd using Odin.
Now you have everything that works for 4.04 aosp/cm9 roms.

That is the official thread for cm9 buddy. Every thing you need is in there. By 4.0.4 what do you mean exactly? Because samsung stock rom is currently 4.0.3.

I am assuming when you flashed back you forgot to flash a stock kernel at the same time. try using odin to get back to stock and you should be fine

Was gonna ask the same thing.
If you can you should be able to to use ODIN to get back to stock.
Sounds like you forgot to flash a 2.1 kernel before you rebooted.
yaddayaddayadddaaaaa
Surprised no one has said "OMG! WRONG SECTION! I'M NOT GONNA HELP YOU!"
But yea, flash a kernel if you can can. Check the Bionix website for them. Also, in the future, make sure you READ everything pertaining to a rom you flash. If you had, you would have known you needed to flash a 2.1 kernel if you wanted to revert.
Odin 1.3
Yeah I've done the same thing before. When you downgrade from 2.2 you must flash a 2.1 kernal first. Best thing to do is re-flash back to stock with Odin. Make sure you use Odin version 1.3 and not version 1. Search the dev forum for how to flash with Odin. The Vibrant is very hard to brick permanently so you should be able to recover from this soft brick.

I had the same problem just two days ago and I thought I ruined my phone. Follow the instructions in this post
it saved my phone. Do not format your phone with cwm. Bad things happen.

You can flash any one of these ROMs and they will include the correct kernel and modem.

use Odin to restore your rom!
I think the easiest thing to do is flash any of the ROM that have Kernels in them, I have only had to use odin once, and that was just to try it out. I always keep stuff on my card, But i guess if you didnt going back to stock through odin would be the next best thing.

Depends on what you flash, but even if its stock with no root, root is very easy on the phone, just do whatever worked for you the first time.

[Q] Galaxy S2 S II I9100 Flash problem

I have a Galaxy S2 with TIM ROM and the only ROM that I managed to start is the Villain 1.1.
After each flash with Odin (single file, so no repartition, no file. pit), the cell will restart after the Samsung logo or Tim logo (I tried to flash the Stock ROM Tim).
Please, someone can give a plausible explanation?
Read the first post of the VillainROM thread. The bit in red specifically. You need to wipe your data partition in recovery to flash another ROM.
Also this is the development thread. You asked a question. Read the XDA rules
VillainROM wipes the phone in its first start because it changes a signature. I guess if you want to use the original Rom again you will need to wipe the phone from recovery with vol+ - home - on-button, while having the original Rom flashed.

I had the same problem and it started after I installed Villain 1.1. I was able to Odin flash both stock and AngeloM roms but the only rom that would reboot was the Villian 1.1 rom. All the other roms just went round and round in circles continually reloading the boot animation. I was finally able to to get both stock and AngeloM roms to boot by pulling the battery to stop the endless circle , booting into recovery by holding home, power & volume up buttons, selecting and doing the cache wipe with the home button (not the power button), then selecting and doing a data wipe/factory reset, and finally rebooting. After doing all this I was able to run both stock and AngeloM roms. Strange that now the selection key in recovery is the home button and not the power button.
In recovery i've always used the home button to select..

It is illogical (apologies to Spock) for comments, questions, etc, regarding a development issue or rom to be in a different section. I would agree the guy should have read the rom thread more carefully and added his issue or question to the rom thread instead of starting a new thread. I would not agree it belongs in q & a.

Reason that came about was to prevent the thousands of idiot posts in the Dev section . Many not relating to the actual post and multiple new threads .
Its an SGS forum problem we are missing a search button or the FAQ on using a search button .

Wipe Data + cache files and it will work
thanks for this thread....panicked when i ohone was in a loop for 10 mins
With a resigned rom (villian and likely more coming) you do not want to let the phone boot up again between wipe and reflash or you will boot loop. Make sure that you wipe and then go directly to download mode for an odin install by shutting the phone off after the wipe by holding the power button and then restarting directly in download mode. If you let it boot that resigning will be there again and you will fail to flash what will be a differently signed rom and are in boot loop. For cw it becomes a non issue if you move from the wipe directly to the flash while in recovery.
Edit... It almost seems to me like it would be a good idea to have a flashing section for these questions. A big chunk of Q&A is taken up with them and it would serve a number of purposes. First it would get them out of Q&A leaving it for the more general questions which is plenty enough. It would get the questions and responses on flashing and roms in one place making it easier to find answers. It would allow chefs who are inclined to roll through and check out issues folks might be having with their rom to find those posts quickly and easily. This I think would be a better answer than putting them in development.

Where did you put the cwm tar in Odin? It should be in the PDA section. After that yes you should be able to get in with the power and volume up buttons.

FYI: I rooted my note AT&T when it had GB(stock) and when Samsung squeezed out the official ICS I updated through Kies which in turn unrooted the Note.
I read this thread -->here<-- hoping for a similar method to root the official ICS 4.0.4 WITHOUT tripping the counter. So far (if I didn't miss any info) only found modded ROMs and flashing methods. I don't want to flash I simply would like to repeat the same rooting process as that of GB.
Any suggestions?

I'm interested in the same thing, given there are directions and an Odin Tar for System flash (which doesn't trip counter) for Stock Gingerbread which has root installed. Is this something the devs could look into? I know that there are a few that are working with stock and modding after stock is rooted, it would be great to have that system.tar for flashing and using ADB to install CWM and then still keep the flash counter from being tripped.
I know there is a CWM for resetting the flash counter, but that's not something I want to mess with. Have heard rumor that they can still see that you flashed something that isn't stock and that's even if you have reset the counter. Not sure on confirmation but that's what I heard. Just want to stay clean like I have already.
Thank you all for any help with this issue!!

Firmware flashing with mobile odin

Hi all, despite searching here on XDA, clicking links and googling, I'm unable to find a download link for a firmware that I think I'm going to need. The firmware in question is.....
I9100NELP4
It's a UK firmware that I believe is 3 mobile branded. I'm having some performance issues with the phone and I want my retailer to check it over, but I can't really take it back whilst it's running CM10.1.
The firmware in question is android 4.0.4, so you can imagine I ain't exactly thrilled about the prospect of reinstalling that....lol.
If the firmware really is unavailable, is there some other method I can use to get it back to out of the box stock? For example...can I download and install a gingerbread stock ROM and then wait for a branded OTA upgrade?.......
Thanks in advance.....Keith

Yes, you can.
(you bought it branded? flash any ROM of your carrier, gb, ics, jb if available. Dont look for specific ROMs, just look at the label).

Re: Impossible to find firmware
Can someone tell me if I did something wrong.....
1) downloaded and installed mobile Odin lite.
2) downloaded the correct flash kernel (v3) unzipped it and installed it
3) downloaded and extracted the correct stock ROM from Sammobile.
4) started mobile Odin and used it to locate and prepare the extracted firmware
5) started the flash process and let it complete......and.....
.....ended up stuck on the galaxy s2 splashscreen.........
Wiping cache, dalvic and fixing permissions didn't help either.....
Should I have formatted one or more of the storage partitions?
Luckily I could still enter recovery and/or download mode and had flashable zips of cwm, SU-Busybox and a custom ROM stored on my phone, so I was able to "restore" my previous setup.......
Here are some images of the setup before beginning the flash (if it helps)...

Thanks.... I'm assuming that you're saying to factory reset AFTER flashing the firmware.....after I experience the stall on splash screen?......
Uhm.....just one possible issue though......the firmware I want to flash is 4.0.4......
Factory reset = brickbug

Why are you flashing 4.0.4 then? Flash 4.0.3 so that you can safely perform a factory reset. You will have to use PC Odin this time. Get your phone into download mode and flash the firmware when it is done using the 3 button combo boot into recovery and do a factory reset there!
EDIT: Updating from GB to 4.0.4 is yet another problem. You will face FCs and crashes if you don't perform a factory reset! I updated via Kies and was facing many issues!
As I said in my OP, the phone is having some performance issues and I want to take it back to the retailer for them to look at. I guess I don't have to flash 4.0.4 it's just that that's how it came out of the box. If I can find a .tar of 4.0.3 is there a reason I can't use mobile Odin to flash it and then perform the factory reset? Finally (if it's relevant) I DL'd and used the "got brick bug" app and it told me that my chip was "unknown" which doesn't really help me other than to say I *might* be safe to do a wipe........

That flash should have gone fine, what was that "unzipped the kernel" all about?
Let me see what carrier you're on and I'll provide the right ROM for you to flash.

Hi gastonw.......
I'm with 3 UK, and this was my setup before I rooted and cusROMmed my phone.....
With regards to unzipping the kernel, I followed the instructions and downloaded the assets in this thread.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899
but when I started mobile Odin for the first time it didn't recognise that the flash kernel had been downloaded until I had unzipped it and installed it.....
And this is the firmware I downloaded.....

Yeah, the lite version makes it a little harder with that unzipping crap.
Try this, factory reset before you flash, all wipes and go at it again. Should be fine.
Correct me if I'm totally off base here......
Factory reset....deletes all user installed apps but leaves user data alone?
This being the case, won't mobile Odin and the flash kernel be deleted?
Can I push them into system and fix permissions beforehand? Or should I just reinstall them after the factory reset?

That's what factory reset does, it deletes all user data (logs, apps and sh*t), not the kernel.
Once you boot into your clean ROM get mobile Odin from Play store, set it up and flash away.
By getting the Pro version you'll be getting some cool features, the app almost flashes on itself....
OK thanks fella, did you look at the firmware I'm attempting to flash? Is it correct? Is there a 4.0.3 version out there?

I checked it out, it's OK. Check the signatures just in case with M.O.
So the steps as I understand them...
1) menu>>settings>>backup & reset>>factory data reset
2) reinstall mobile Odin (and flash kernel if using lite version)
3) boot into recovery and wipe dalvic and cache
4) reboot phone normally
5) start mobile Odin and search for downloaded firmware
6) run md5 checks
7) begin flash process and allow to complete
8) reboot phone normally and complete initial setup.....job done
Should I be doing any other wiping or formatting of any partitions (eg preload, emmc etc) between steps 7 & 8.....or anywhere else in the process?......

You put phone into download mode and flash through Odin. There are many guides on here for directions
Here's one guide. Read the full first page
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21659039
yeah i know, many guides i have done, walked through, but nothing helps. odin flashes without problem. phone restarts and still no recovery with bootloop... flashed this and that.. and still same issues.
Flash JB leak firmware via odin (comes as 3 parts - Pda, phone and csc). Then see if it boots. If it doesn't, try to enter recovery and factort reset.
Report back what happens.

I've seen a couple of these cases happening lately, my bet is on the bootloader, eventhough I don't encourage people to try flashing it. Or, as always, OP is holding something back.
Neo, I'm not familiar with the ROM being downloaded from a non-stable internet connection and I know you get them from an internet cafe. Now, is it possible that Odin would allow (flash) a corrupted ROM?

I literally did this yesterday. After you flash stock you have to boot into 3e (stock recovery) and wipe data. This will stop the bootloop and you can carry on with rooting if that's what you want.
It's better to wipe dalvik, you need CWM for that, that's why it's always suggested to flash a custom ROM when on a bootloop.

jeah i know but whatever i flash i still have no recovery...
ok now its official. phone memory is problem, i went to service today and they told me that when i flash with odin the values that i flash dont stay in the memory, on the next boot
those values get clear, memory bug of some kind, he said that he can manual and direct approach to the motherboard and write recovery directly but he cant say if it will always
work like it is suppose to.
Hum....I think you're getting conned, as the matter of fact, he must be reading this right now.
