[Q] HELP! Cyanamod for dummies - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Hi everyone, I am a total newbie to all this custom ROM stuff.
I have a Galaxy ace rooted but with stock ROM, I want Cyanamod but am a little scared of bricking my phone.
It all seems very complicated so my question is, can somebody kind enough please give a step by step account of what i have to do with all the links for what i need.
Please don't leave anything out, it might seem like something everyone should know but belive me, i don't know it!!!
I am wanting basically at the end of it a phone with more spare RAM, all apps i don't need gone and a stable smooth phone, i might overclock it too depending on advice.
Don't know what you need so my phones details are:
Galaxy Ace GTS5830
Android version 2.3.6 gingerbread
baseband version S5830NEKT2
Kernal version 2.6.35.7 -perf-CL772922 [email protected] #1
Build number Gingerbread.XWKT5
Thanks for your time.

Yo, dude. Don't worry about bricking your phone, you can always fix it with odin by flashing stock rom. Just, dont use ROM manager!
Custom rom? Read the main sticky about installing cwm recovery, then find your favourite rom and follow the steps on the thread about install your custom Rom! By The way, you should read similiar threads, before creating yours. because it's 100 of 'em.
-Beans,

ok firstly u decise which cyanogenmod rom u want as they are many cyanogenmod roms by different developers and many cyanogenmod based roms ..
after u download the rom , put it in your sd card.
so u need to know that u cant flash custom roms with a stock recovery
u need a custom recovery so flash clockwordmod recovery 5 from here :
http://androidflip.com/how-to-install-clockworkmod-recovery-v5-on-galaxy-ace-s5830/
so the above link has a guide too so i assume that cwm 5 is flashed
now go to cwm 5 recovery ( home button + power button) and choose " install zip from sd " and navigate to your rom location
it will take about 3-5 minutes for rom to install
then u ought to to click on " wipe cache partition " this is a very important step
and voila u ahve a cm7.2 powered ace remember the first boot will take a bit long so dont get scared
---------- Post added at 05:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:18 PM ----------
and getting into stock recovery ( to flash cwm recovery ) takes a bit hard work for the first few time
so best of luck press home + power button till u get in stock recovery then flash cwm recovery

In the link you posted it says install to pc then to phones sd card.
Doesn't it have to go in the root folder?
I rooted my phone from the sd card, thats still there, won't that show up when i press power and menu to get into recovery mode?
Where/how do i know which version of cyanamod to get?
As you can see i am totally clueless, thats why i'm worried about bricking it.
What do kernals do?

See...download the zip file from the link dragonoid provided..
next connect your phone to your pc and copy the zip file to the sd card..
disconnect your phone and switch it off...
press and hold power button and while holding home button press and hold power button...u will now boot into stock recovery..next use the volume buttons and select the option "apply update from sd card" and select the zip file u just copied..let it flash and then reboot your device...you now have CWM Recovery on your phone..
next...switch off phone..use power + home button combo boot into recovery..notice the difference as it is now ClockWorkMod recovery..
if you have already copied the rom zip file to your sd card select the option "install zip from sd card" and then select the rom file...after completion wipe cache and partition then go into advanced and wipe dalvik cache...and then reboot...
Now you have CWM and your desired ROM on your phone..

i m sorry to say this but i could not understand a thing of ur 1st 2 lines
there is no root folder ok so u rooted your phone using cwm how stupd of me , i forgot that gingerbread rooting requires cwm method sorry my bad
i m not talking about cyanogenmod version , i m talking about the rom
there are sooo many cm7 based rom in our very own sga android development section so see those roms see which u like . i would recommend cm7.2 by team adreno but many users over here seem to like miracle rom v4 its your choice
and remember u cannot brick ur phone unless you flash a rom or a kernel not meant for ace or install rom manager and mess around with it . so jut chill
and flash cm7 already
a new awesomee world awaits you and your phone

I was afraid too like you the first time but it's a lot simple and easy. Just always take backup of previous ROM in case anything happens. So simple steps which i used:
1. Download Clockwork Mod Recovery (5.0.2.6)
2.Boot into Recovery Mod ( Power + Home button) or search google for pictures or videos
3.Select "Install from Zip" and select the CWM zip file.
4.CWM will be installed on your phone now and it's a great recovery.
5.Choose any ROM you want and put it on your SD card.
6.Now boot into recovery mod, Select "Wipe Data/Factory select" and select "yes"
7.Select "Wipe Cache" and then yes > Advanced options> Wipe Dalvik Cache > Yes
8. Go back to main recovery menu by pressing Back button of your phone > Choose Install ZIp from SD card > Select ZIP> Yes > Wait for it to install and VIOLA. you have installed a custom ROM on your phone

Thankyou, that is exactly what I wanted!
A couple more questions, I was thinking about going for Cyanamod 7.2, will my apps be gone when i do it and will i still be able to access google play.
Is there anything I will have to mess around in the files with, like setting wi-fi?

Your apps will be gone but you can back them up using titanium backup
And yes...obviously you will be able to use google play!!!

wifi stuff is a bit different on a custom rom , ur phone will not automatically pop up the wifi ap dialog box .....ull have to manually go in wifi settings and choose the wifi hotspot ( unless that is . your phone has remembered the wifi hotspot ) and than thers no boooorrrinng bluetoth disconnection after every 120 secs u can set bluetooth time out to " never"
some custom roms do require u to flash Gapps( which includes G play) as an addon but i dont think any of our cm7.2 roms require thaat

Well mate installing ROM is similar to installing OS on any PC. Format> everything is gone but long live titanium backup pro
CM based ROMs require to flash a zip called "Gapps" in order to use any google service or software like play store. On stock based ROMs, it's not required.

Can't thank you guys enough, I was expecting the " go read up" and other non helpful replies but I am very glad I joined xda, you've been a great help!
So....am I right in thinking:
1 Get Titanium pro and back everything up
2 Install CWM
3 Factory rest/wipe data in CWM options
4 Wipe dalvik cache in CWM options
5 Install Cyanamod 7.2 from sd card
6 Install Gapps
I have only just got my phone and won't be able to afford another and I have 23 months left on my contract, thats why I'm being very hesitant.

OK Thanks, what about Gmail and Play store though?
I see in abhibnl's signature it says he is waiting for a camera that works, does thqt mean the camera won't work if I install Cyanamod 7.2?
Is there anything else that won't work too?
PS How long do I have to keep verifying my posts with this Captcha?

camera doesnt work on CM9 ..
in all CM7.2 camera works dont worry
and yeah till u reach 10 posts you will have to keep verifying ..

Well gmail and play store are included in mostly all roms. Play store is must in all roms, gmail can be downloaded. CM9 doesn't support camera yet , cm7 has working camera. Do anything but never ever use Rom Manager

I am gonna go for it then!
Only thing is can you link me a good version of Cyanamod 7.2 that you recommend as I see there are different ones, I like the simple cyan on black themes if there are different ones?
Btw I have backed up to titanium backup, do i leave it on the sd card or copy to pc because won't everything get wiped?

i dont know about the other members but this is the best cyanogenmod i have used for ACE but you need to flash this kernel with it too as thers some problem with the roms default kernel ... or you could try the cm7.2 miracle edition v4 rom which everyone seems to like

your sd contents wont get wiped wiping dalvik cache ->only your apps and app data will go...so keeping your backup on sd is safe unless you decide to format your sd card which i dont think you are interested in

Now its getting complicated again, flashing kernal too?
Miracle v4 needs messing with files for wi fi doesn't it?
Everytime I am ready something else comes up, its not simple this is it!

[Q] After-root steps for ROM install galaxy s2?

Hi folks, first like to say thank you to everyone who puts this stuff together- mindboggling for me so it is.
ANyway, im not a techie, but im getting there.
I've rooted my S2, and i now have CWM and superuser on the phone. I have read ALOT of threads , and i'm a bit confused about my next steps. I have no sd card.
I want to get one of those ROMS to help the battery and all the other jazz(phone call recording sounds particularly sweet), but im wary of jumping into it... I have android 2.33 on the phone, and it was the kf3 kernal that i flashed on with ODIN to ROOT the phone successfully;
Q1. I was thinking of the lightning ROM for my phone- do i need to check which kernel and android version i have and match them up with a specific version of whichever ROM i go for?
Q2. Do i have to 'wipe' the phone before installing the ROM? ( i dont know what this means)
Q3. with the above in mind, can anyone point me towards a detailed tutorial on putting a ROM on the phone? ( i have looked honestly, im not being lazy- they dont seem to say what to do if youve already rooted the phone)
EDIT Q4- Should i have NOT rooted with KF3 V 4.0 and just installed the litening ROM, which would have rooted the phone aswell? - I'm really confused. Basically i can't figure out if ive made it harder to put a ROM on there, or easier.
EDIT Q5; will this method work ( im still not sure how to identify what rom fits my system)
How to install a ROM using CWM
Installing a ROM using CWM is a lot less hassle then installing via Odin. The ROM developer will specify which method of installing their ROM you can use, but it is usually done by a CWM flashable .zip.
To flash:
1. Boot into CWM as described above
2. Navigate to 'install zip from sd card'
3. Select it, and then navigate to 'install zip from sdcard' again!
4. Select the ROM you downloaded from your sd card
5. Navigate down to yes
6. Let CWM install you new ROM!
Many Thank yous in advance for anyone who can help this cabbage (ie, me).
Cheers

A1 No, lighting Rom includes its own kernal and will update your phnes android version when you install it.
A2 you should to make sure their are no stray bits of data floating around. Go to cwm and put it into recovery mode. clean the cache, the go into into advanced and clean daavik cache.
this is what is mean by wiping the phone. if you want you can also do a factory reset.
A3 the method in in question 5 is the usual way to do it from cwm but make sure that you copy it into the internal sdcard.
A4. rooting makes it easier in as it gives you access to the file structure of the phone. It is always a good idea to root the phone, if you want to customize it.
A5. To use cwm mwthod any rom has to come it a zip file version. Tar file versions are used with odin but in any case always follow the developers instructions to get the best out of the rom.

Hi Cosmic blue,
thak you so much for coming back to me, i really appreciate it.
So if i can just clarify my proposed method then from the above with a few more questions;
1 go to cwm recovery and clean the two caches you mentioned above while in recovery mode. ( i see the menu now in recovery mode- would i be right in saying the ones to select are 'wipe cache partition' and i can see the dalvik one in advanced no problem)
2 I need to get the rom zip file from the developers thread. SO i download that to my laptop- then whats the best way to transfer to the phone internal sd card as you said...Do i Need an external sd card yes? (sorry, i know this sounds dumb )
3 ( please ignore this one if youre busy- no big deal as i can do more research) can you recommend a good ROM thats not majorly complicated, saves the battery, looks cool i suppose and has some good extra fucntions? as i was saying i liked the lite'ning one but ive read some places that its a bit of a battery drain...
Thank you so miuch again, its so appreciated.

1. correct, wipe those 2 to prepare your phone.
2. no, you do not need an external card. Go to the laptop root directory, you will see the internal sdcard of your phone as a drive, create a new folder in the phone sdcard and copy the zip file to it.
then detach cable and go into recovery and flash the zip file.
3. you will need to experiment with different roms. Lite'ing is fine all custom roms are a bit of battery drain because of the extra functions. But the battery life is still better then the stock as they have tweaked the battery to discharge slower for longer battery life.
4. Everyone has different preferences. try different combinations of firmware, kernal and modem till you find one that you will like.

Question About Installing UnNamed ROM

So I am getting ready to install this ROM, or at least try to. Question I have is when it says to " 1) Download update-unnamed-v1.X.X-full.zip and place it on your SD card", what does that mean exactly? Do I need to download it onto my computer and move it to my phone? Or do I download it right onto the phone?
Also, do I need an external SD card installed into the phone or can I just save the zip onto the internal memory?
Sorry for the newbie questions but I am very new to this. You guys were very helpful when I rooted the phone so I figured you would be the ones to ask again this time. Thanks in advance for your help.
Doesn't matter how you download it and it can go on either SD card, internal or external.

when you wipe, you will lose everything on your phone. So make sure your contacts are backed up. If you have them in gmail, then you wont lose them because after flashing the new rom and once you setup your gmail account, your contacts will come back automatically.
Yup, best for every Android user to import all of their contacts into their Google/Gmail account. I manually entered mine into Gmail when I first got an Android phone. It sucked, but since then I haven't had to worry about it. As soon as I flash a ROM and sign in to my Google account my contacts just pop in like magic.

yep. I spent the hour or whatever to manually enter all my contacts. It can take a while depending on how many contacts you have, but it will save you a LOT of time and headaches later on.
Another question for you, what happens to my stock rom when I install UnNamed? Will it still be available to me should I need to switch back?
With my paid apps, will I be able to redownload them for free or am I going to have to pay again? I have titanium backup but since I am wiping the phone wont everything I backed up get wiped too?

Do you currently have CWM installed? If so, you can do a full nandroid backup from recovery of your stock rom if you choose to go back to stock. If not, Entropy has a great thread in the dev section about loading back to stock.
UnNamed will simply become the one and only rom on your phone (which isn't a bad thing) after you flash it, the stock will always get replaced.
As to your paid apps via the Market, they'll be there for you to download again for free. TB is another good option, just make sure that you ONLY choose 'Missing Apps with Data' for any restoring.

Whenever you choose 'Wipe data', all folders on /sdcard (clockworkmod, titaniumbackup, download, etc.) remain there and untouched. Formatting the /sdcard is another story.
Your answer was correct since the storage area where the contact info is stored will in fact get wiped but it kind of makes it sound as though you will lose everything, which is not the case.

If you don't backup the stock rom you will loose it.
To back up the stock rom which you are using now is easy.
Go into CWM Recovery and select "backup/restore"
then select "backup".
OR if you are not sure about CWM recovery you can always do it the easier way.
Download this app called "CWM Manager" which is available here: http://megaupload.com/?d=TGXMLL1G
This this app is better than a swiss army knife!
This app is so easy to use that even my brother "Mikey" can do it!
The reason it's so easy to use is because it's self-explanitory.
OK, I do have the cwm from when I rooted, so I should be good there.
Last question, and BTW you have all been super helpful with this. When you say SD card, you are talking about my phones internal memory right and not a little micro SD card that needs to be installed, correct?

When ever you see "sdcard" mentioned in any of these posts or replies
people are referring to the internal sdcard unless they specify "external sdcard"
I also found it strange and a little confusing at first but for a different reason,
the reason being is that we really don't have an externel sdcard at all except
for the one which is inside of our phone.
(they are both internal sdcards since both of them reside inside of our phones!)

Long press volume key to skip songs mod
Hi GTG, is there any way you can implement Aerobahn's mod to skip songs from any app like google music, pandora or any other music app to skip songs with the volume keys?
I found a treath for a SGS2 international version that allows this. Any other sugestions. It would be really convinient when playing music via a bluetooth headset. I promess I'll make a donation.
Is it hard to learn the coding the implement this mod to your ROM?

Alright, I did all the steps and I am pretty sure it worked bc my AOS dropped considerably. However, when I do the pulldown menu there are still only the five options. And when I hold down the power key there are only the three original options that I had in the stock rom. Did I mess something up? The only thing that was a little different from the instructions was when I chose the zip to install it was called "updated" in my menu instead of "update-unnamed-v1.X.X-full.zip" like it says in the instructions.

Sounds like you flashed the wrong file. What does it show for Build Number under 'About Phone' in settings? It should show UnNamed v1.0.4.
Also, you need to swipe the Notification options to the left to see the additional 5 but if you did indeed flash the wrong file, you obviously won't see that.

Just go download this "update-unnamed-v1.0.4-full.zip": http://www.multiupload.com/9UTPJDVDZQ
After its downloaded put it on your SDCARD (not inside any folders).
Go into CWM recovery and select "install zip from sdcard" then simply
select the "update-unnamed-v1.0.4-full.zip" in your sdcard and flash.
This way everything will be GOOOOD
unnamed rom is probably the most stable rom out thr.

The plan is to choose a ROM which suits your preferences, e.g. no homescreen lag, better camera apk, better access to the CPU. Try a few, I use Villianrom, which suits me really but there are loads more.
Enjoy
First is first
Backup ur efs
Then titanium
Then cwm full backup
This will keep u busy for today, you'll thank me later

your /efs folder is in comparison to apps, data etc. the most important thing to backup since it is the only thing that cannot be restored without a proper backup if it is screwed up by a bad flash. it basically contains your product code, imei and other sensible phone related data. you can backup it easily with hellcat's kTool app from market. For safety reasons you should copy your /efs backup img from your sdcard to your pc afterwards.
Concerning your other questions, just read through the few stickies in the general and android original dev. section. all what you look for is explained there very detailed.

If u rooted with cf kernel n haven't flashed another then yes, up+home+power >back up. Use hellcats k tool to back up efs (its on market or his thread in dev section) titanium back up is the 1st thing that comes up if you search 'titanium' on market the pro version is costs but is worth it.
Seriously tho, if you're new to android and have never rooted, give it a few weeks first otherwise you won't know what is 'better' and if you don't and end up having problems with roms you'll end up crying that you should have got an Iclone.. Just my opinion from observing this forum for a while

hi,this rooting seems pretty confusing as i used to be an iphone user and jailbreaking was simple but this seems to be difficult to follow, ive been looking around the forum for step by step guide on how to install roms etc but just cant find them, would like to test this out to see if it was worth rooting but at the moment its done nothing for me or the phone its just added another few apps,it seems to me like its a lot of hassle to get different roms etc onto the phone & whats radio etc do i need to update other stuff when i try to put roms on & kernels whats that all about ????sorry chaps but im clueless to all this stuff maybe i should have stayed with apple.
and the efs backup has been done with hellcat & when connected to pc there is no backup file on my sd card ??

My advice is to stay away from flashing ROMs, kernels and rooting.
Use it like you used your iPhone, install games and apps from the Android Market and enjoy your phone.
Unless you've seen something you particularly want from any of the above, the risks for you are not worth it.
thinking that myself mate but how do i put the phone back to the way it was before i rooted ?
how to remove the root & go back to original way
As far as I can tell, you haven't said how you rooted - looks like you flashed a different, pre-rooted kernel. There's not a big risk staying rooted, just take extra care if you install something and you get a popup on your phone telling you it's asking for root (superuser request).
it was this
DooMLoRD_v2_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su.zip
and installed zimage to my sd card and installed onto phone so i have superuser and darkyrom2 installed ive done nothing else.
mucking around with roms & kernels etc seem a load of hassle & dont want to destroy the phone with wrongly installed roms etc & what happens when a new update come out through kies ? do i just install it or what ?
can i not just remove the root by doing a factory reset or something ?
Of course you can easily completely revert back to your original set-up. For doing that just type *#1234# in your dialer and post here the output. I or someone else can point you to your original rom.
BUT you will never get a taste of in my opinion the greatest advantage of android: it's customability.
I promise you, you won't regret the effort it takes to educate yourself a bit about the basic knowledge you need, to do all the cool stuff which is only possible rooted. It is enough to spend some time to read regulary here on xda and you will see that everything is really not that hard. You don't have to fear, it is almost impossible to brick your phone if you just have a backup of your /efs folder, don't flash the firmware of another device on your phone and don't disconnect your usb cable in the one second a different bootloader gets flashed. I have flashed and hardcore abused my sgs1 more then 500 times (no exaggeration, i am a dev for sgs1 ) and my sgs2 also very often. Everything ( while testing stuff i went through scary errors and a literally death phone more than once) is recoverable except in the three situations i mentioned above. And you can ALWAYS go back to stock later on no matter what you have messed up.
Have a look again at the content of your sdcards (also in folders and subfolders), the efs.img or .tar has to be somewhere there, save it on your pc and the party can be started

And because i am a nice guy and don't want you to go back to apple here my advice for your first custom rom :
1. Follow exactly the instructions there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Take your time to read through, everything is explained very well
2. Then you are ready to flash your first custom rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1288850
this is in my opinion the most stable atm. Read through the first posts, download the 2.9 zip from the post, copy it to your internal sd
3. Switch your device off and boot into recovery by pressing and holding volume up, home and power button at the same time until samsung gti9100 appears on the screen (about 5 sec.), then release the three buttons and you are in recovery mode. You can navigate with vol up and vol down and power or home button in the recovery mode. Navigate to "install from sdcard"/"choose zip from sdcard" and then select the file you have downloaded. Confirm and relax. That's all... easy or?

From now on you can easily forget about kies, roms here will mostly provide newest firmware long before it is out via kies. Also with odin you can always much more comfortable flash the same firmware as comes over kies.
You can flash any rom you want as long as it is for your device (gt i9100).
As i said, take your time and read across the forum and always follow the thread about the rom you run and your knowledge will improve from alone have fun bro

A "non-wipe" ROM?

Having troubles with my GSII. Need to flash a new ROM but I don't want to lose all of my contacts, messages etc. so which ROM's won't wipe the data on the phone? Or will any ROM work once I don't wipe the data manually from CWM? I'm on an old build of a Gingerbread MIUI ROM, but would flashing an ICS ROM work fine?
Need to do something - it's the last straw before I bite the bullet and buy an iPhone 4S (saving myself €680 in the process).
Backing up in CWM shows "Error while generating MD5 sum!" when it's nearly complete, backing up to the internal SD card as when I try a normal one it comes up "Error while backing up boot image" straight away. Going out to buy a 4S at around lunch time if it doesn't work so I need help quickly.

it is very simple to backup your contacts/call logs/data/apps with MIUI backup, if you are moving MIUI to MIUI
it is strongly recommended to wipe your data before moving from GB to ICS.

MD5 checksum error of CWM of the MIUI roms is a known issue,
solutions are:
1) flash a siyah GB kernel from CWM and reboot to its CWM and make a back up,
by default backup will be stored to external SD, make space for atleas 1.5 gb (depends on your apps size, if only few apps 1 GB is enough)
if above also is giving same treble, use the second option which worked for me nicely..
2) Download ROM manager, falsh CWM version from thata, reboot recovery from Rom manager from there make a Backup..
CWM will not read the Backup from External SD by default move your backups to internel backup forlder of Clockworkmod.
then you dowload the latest GB version MIUI, either form XDA or from MIUI sites and flash from CWM, again flash Siyah

bootloop is the result of launcher & Themes, when I tryed to change themes I got FCs and bootloop on reboot, only worked was factory data reset and flash the same ROM zip from CWM...
but you are concerened about your apps & data, by flashing the siyah I dont think resolve bootloop issue but you may be able to make a back up from its Recovery...
since you have no access to interal SD now, copy to external SD and select kernel zip from install zip from external SD card. i hope it will work..
otherwise you will have to flash Tar version of the Siyah kernel form ODIN in download mod

Quite a lot. Maybe it came across as a little rude, but there's no denying that iPhone's are the most reliable smart phone on the market. Most Android phones need you to root/flash to get the most out the system, with iPhone's this isn't the case. I know they're not the best phone on the market, which doesn't delight me but I'm contempt owning one. Knowing that something is not likely to go wrong - leaving me without any of my precious data.
With my SII all that happened was the phone died, and then all of a sudden it started boot-looping, after working fine for about a month (had a similar problem before).
Not happy about being trapped into Apple's eco-system, but if that's what it takes to have a reliable phone with superb battery life then that's what I'm going to do. And once there is a jailbreak for the 4S on 5.1 I'll be doing it ASAP.
Anyway; flashed that kernel to my phone. Worked a treat, and the whole back-up was successful (changed my CWM to a touch version too lol). Thanks a lot ZACQ8.
Here's hoping that flashing a new ROM will work smoothly. If so I'm going to sell it, get the $$$, bring the 4S back (I've got 14 day cooling off period) and try out the One X.
I know I should really just be searching but I doubt I'll find a specific answer so... does anyone have suggestions for a reliable ROM?

From this website? http://www.fjsoft.at/en/
Quite a generic name for a piece of software, and does it work without actually needing access to the phone in an 'off' state? As still getting boot-loop meaning I've no chance of getting into the phone.
I expect it to not work very nicely with Mac OSX though. Really sounding like an Apple fanboy, eh?
Also, the ROM I'm looking for (quite specific) has to be 2.3 and a non-wipe ROM. Currently downloading 'XWLA4 by TugaPower'. The non-wipe version, let's hope.
Successfully flashed that ROM, getting FC's when trying to enter my contacts. So then went into CWM, tried to restore my old backup but it's saying: "MD5 mismatch!"
How exactly do I fix this to be able to flash my backup of my previous ROM?

CWM-based or CWM?

any idea what could be going wrong ?

what should i do to remove ALL apps and start installing them from scratch ?

You were suppose to download and flash Gapps.
Visit CM9 thread again, you need to download Gapps (Google apps)
1. Download Gapps,
2. Boot to CWM recovery
3. Flash Gapps
4. Reboot phone
Problem solved!

Great, I erased my sd card and problem solved, flashed gapps and got everything ...
Some questions which have nothing to do with this:
1) How can i get touch recovery ? just open up rom manager and tap "flash clockwork mod recovery touch"? or is there another better way to do this ?
2) Is there any way so that when i get a SMS or a missed call, something will notify me on the screen that i have a new sms or missed call ? (i had this on stock ics, but when i flashed cm9 it just dissappeared.). Reason i need this: Sometimes i dont hear my ringtone and it is kind of annoying to have to unlock and bring down the notification bar just to check if i have something new.
Thanks, Currently on a Gt-I9100 running cm9 stable

1. Never use ROM manager on your phone. In fact, Disable or Remove the app at once. It is a very risky app, which has led to brick on many Galaxy S2 already.
# If you want touch recovery, you can flash Siyah kernel, Dorimanx kernel or Dream kernel. they all come with touch recovery.
2. Use a third party launcher. The default launcher (Trebuchet) lack this feature.
Holo launcher HD, Apex launcher Nova launcher, Go launcher EX, etc all have this function implemented

1) cant i just download the cwm touch from here: http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager and just flash it through my current non-touch CWM ?
2) I thought such a simple feature was integrated onto the rom but ok, i'll try those options.
oh and is there anyway to go back to my stock ics keyboard ? the buttons and letters are kind of small on cm9.
thanks
Thanks

1.
You may use that. It should work fine but I must tell you that I've never used that method before. I always use custom kernels
2.a. that's because the launcher in development by the CM team.
b. If you are looking for Samsung keyboard, You can't have. Sorry about that but there are better keyboard apps in the market with some of them having the option to change the theme to the Samsung keyboard style.
