External Power App - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been looking for an application that will automatically turn on bluetooth and barnacle wi-fi tether when I connect to an external power source such as a wall outlet or car charger. Can anyone recommend a good app for this? I am trying to get my phone connected as quickly as possible to my head unit in my car.

Using Tasker to sense lapdock connection

I am trying to use Tasker to detect when I plug my Atrix into the lapdock to automatically turn on/off bluetooth. So far, Dock state and Power state do not work. Dock works when I first plug the device onto the lapdock but as soon as I open the lapdock it no longer senses it as a dock and goes back off. Does anyone have any other ideas on how to do this?

[Q] Controls not working in USB port...

I guess I'm a total noob. I rebooted the tablet and now the 360 controls work fine! FFS
Read on if you want to know what the problem was...
I have tried to use my xbox360 wireless controller with wired PC dongle and a xbox360 wired control in the USB port of the dock and the wireless dongle lights up only when i push the button then i sync the control and the light goes off and the control wont map in any of the emu's or games I tried where the WII-mote worked. The wired one doesn't even turn on (flickers on then off .2 sec) when plugged in. Am I missing something do I have a defective doc? I also happen to have a ps3 control and that also doesn't work with the USB cable and the six-axises app. App says its compatible with the Transformer Prime but it always just asks me to pug the USB in even tho its plugged in. Any ideas? Does the Dock need a certain amount of charge does it have to be plugged into the wall to have enough power? Wireless dongle light goes off after the control is synced, is that normal? Could it be because its rooted?
(4.0.3 ICS brand spanking new Transformer Prime w/ wired 360 control, wireless PC dongle & wireless 360 control, and PS3 control with USB wire and Six-Axises app plugged to dock with no success)
Did you fix this? I have the same issue.

Which android device to stay in a car for radio streaming ?

Hello,
I'd like to install an Android device (tablet, smartphone, computer or whatever) into my car.
The purpose is to listen to internet radios and to be able to switch between those radios using my toyota car player which handles bluetooth/A2DP/avrcp .The app I would use is xiialive. This device would have his own sim card and should stay in the car. I don't want to plug the device each time I enter in my car, push any button or whatever. I would just like that the fact to put the key in my car would connect automatically to a webradio.
In fact I don't really need to see the screen, the device could stay hidden somewhere inside the car.
Here are the features I would like :
- auto boot when I turn on the car, which means when the device receives power from the usb port (my car has an usb port)
- plug an external antenna to get a better reception while driving. I'm thinking of a small android computer with a 3G stick plugged in. I have a 3G stick with an external antenna slot. Or any smartphone with an external antenna slot, but I haven't found one so far.
- eventually auto power down when I turn off the car, but If the device shutdowns when the battery is empty, it could be ok too
I've searched for such devices with no sucess. Any help is welcomed
thanks
if its a device that stays plugged in then if its connected to an always on port (on whether the car is or not) you should be all set. you can still place it somewhere you can easily reach on the off chance something happens and you need to manually power it on or reboot it.

Bluetooth keeps device awake

Hey guys,
I only use my bluetooth with my car. When I only connect to my older car that only has bluetooth phone connection, I have no problems. However, with the newer car that has text message and media link, bluetooth will keep device awake and drain battery even when the bluetooth is not connected. If I reset my bluetooth connections, it problem goes away (but comes back when I connect to the newer car again).
Anyone else have this problem? Thanks.

V521 for car navigation

I just bought a V521. I primarily want to use it in my car as a navigation unit.
1. To conserve battery, I plan to set it to turn off if it detects the cable is unplugged/no power (perhaps after a delay). Is there a way to have it turn on if it detects the cable is plugged in/power to cable?
2. Any tips on how to get it to startup faster? I'd prefer not to have a long wait everytime I start my car. Perhaps I remove or disable something
I'd appreciate any general tips as well
