Best Buy and Sero Premium plan (Sero-P) - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Can anyone post there success or failures in getting Best Buy to do an upgrade on a Sero-P plan? I have seen post from about a year ago saying there are limited instances where people were able to pull it off but nothing recent. Also just incase someone is unclear. Sero-P is different from the old school old school sero plans that could not accept newer phones. Also, Sero-P is not the same as the EPRP plans.
Thanks! please let me know of your success stories or failures!

im on Sero-P 500. Called Sprint before hand and told them I was getting the phone in BB and wanted to check compatibility. First rep said not compatible (They did that with my OG Evo as well) So I hung up and called again, the second rep said that I should still be able to stay on the same plan so I told her to NOTE the account stating that before we hang up.
Bought the phone in BB and they have to activate it and change your plan blah blah. I just took it home and called sprint and said check my account notes, I should be on Sero P 500. and they switched me back which reflected in 15 minutes.
GL. Its possible

When I bought my OG Evo @ BB it took them making a couple calls to get it through. Today though I wasn't as successful. Had BB switch me to the Everything plan and then chatted with Sprint later and had them change it back.

I was able to upgrade today in bb and I have SERO P. The rep has to call their sprint rep to get it done and if that doesn't work like with me, I just hit *2 talked with regular cs handed the phone to the BB rep to talk to sprint and 10 min later I walked out with my evo. There was some talk about how it won't work with my plan and I would have to change it but that was a bunch of bull

This makes me upset. The guy at BB was unwilling to talk to sprint cc and sprint was unwilling to help me over the phone while I was at BB... I ended up canceling my pre order and left. AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

I didn't buy in BB but upon first boot, the Activation app ran and made me choose a new plan. SERO Premium was one of the options ($40 / 500 mins). I tried to activate a new device on Sprint.com to see if I still had to choose a new plan and it still made me, but SERO Premium wasn't an option.
Maybe you'd have the same options upon first boot.

The SERO-Premium plans only existed on October 1, 2010. That means you could order an Android phone in late September 2010 and activate it on October 1st 2010. With Sprint's 22-month upgrade eligibility, that puts our upgrade dates to July 1st, 2012 at the earliest.
How are you guys upgrade eligible already?

Im sure there are a couple different scenarios in which people are upgrade eligible now. Me for instance, I left the og Sero plan and switched to everything data 450 when sprint offered me $20 off my bill every month on top of a 15% discount. I later convinced sprint to switch me back to Sero-P. Since I was a Sprint Premier Gold customer I was up for yearly upgrades and I still have one more to use before I am stuck on the 20 month upgrade cycle. Others probably either did a prorated buyout of their current plan to be upgrade eligible or some how convinced sprint to move them up

Yesterday at the store, the BB guys called Sprint rep and couldn't retain my Everything Plus 500 plan. So I told the guys to change my plan (Everything 450). This morning, I logged onto my account on Sprint website, looked at all the individual plans and noticed that Everything Plus 500 is listed as a plan option for me. So I changed it back. Apparently the Sprint database remembers.

Personally I bought out my contact, sold my 3D on craigslist, preordered at bb got $50 GC. All in all cost me $50 out of pocket to get the EVO 4g lte after using my upgrade last year to get the 3D

Premier Gold had a 12 month upgrade cycle.

I suspect that BB has to activate a 2 year contract on something for you walk out with that price. My guess is they would have a hard time doing that.
Not even the Online Web or Calling Normal Sprint could activate my phone and I already had SERO Premium.
I had to call Sprint Employee support and then it was fine.
I'd say it's not worth the risk in BB messing up your SERO plan.

I've been able to go to Best Buy but I was told by an employee I should go to Best Buy Mobile as they would know all about it and be able to do the upgrade just fine. Which seemed to work just fine in my case and a few different friends who went to different Best Buy Mobiles but it worked just fine with them as well.

So it sounds like two people so far have been able to get the phone from Best Buy while being on Sero-P

I don't think it matters what phone you are upgrading to. The issue is that Best Buy cannot activate phones on SERO Premium accounts through their systems. If the BBM associate is willing to let you call Sprint from your old phone (*2) or if they are willing to call Sprint Employee Accts (888-876-8381), then you should have no problem. The issue is that, at quite a few stores, the BBM associate will not be willing to activate using a different method. If they cannot do it through their system (or their escalation phone number) they won't let you buy the phone.

looks like I don't such luck. Have called Sprint employee service 3 times and every time what I got is "no you can't upgrade the SERO-P at any 3rd party retailer". Even the change plan to Everything Plus then switch back method is not acceptable. sigh, guess I'd better wait for official launch now.

Did you have to speak to a supervisor to get SERO back? Because they are giving me trouble. I'm on my second phone call with them now...

Expiring SERO plan & touch pro

a friend of a friend is wants to get rid of his SERO plan along w/ his touch pro. His contract is ending in a couple months. I'm thinking about buying the whole package from him and transferring his SERO plan.
For those with experience dealing with sprint, is this process easy to do? I know they are trying to get ppl off the SERO plan. Will they make u change ur plan after the contract expiration?
Also, how difficult would it be to upgrade to TP2 when it comes out next week? Just wondering if sprint will try to screw me out of the SERO plan. I don't want to buy the phone to find out that i can only use the SERO plan for 2 months
Thanks
The process if fairly easy to do from what I know, people transfer plans all the time (including SERO ones).
I am also on SERO and have been considering waiting for the next phone instead of TP2, so I asked Sprint what will happen to my plan once it expires if I don't extend it. They said they will NOT mess with your plan, they won't cancel it, or force you off of it. They did say that if you want to upgrade to a phone down the road, it's eligibility will depend on the phone (which is how it is now anyway, so no biggie).
It would be easy upgrading to the TP2 if you qualify for the upgrade (and it sounds like you are good for $150 credit). Just call telesales on Sept 8th and they should be able to hook you up.
SERO sales is: 1-800-503-3078.
The only trouble you will run into is they will ask you for a Sprint Rep's e-mail and ID, which you can Google to find (many forums don't allow asking, so just Google it and you should find it no problem).
That's it! It's a good deal if you can get SERO... can't go wrong with $30 a month.

is there a better phone coming out soon after the TP2?
Other thing I'm worried about is that they will eventually make all phones require the newer plans like they did with the Pre.
Pre was never going to be SERO eligible because it's not WM. For the most part, SERO is WM only plan.
Android won't be eligible either...
And sadly, no. I don't know of a WM phone coming out soon besides TP2... it's just not much of an upgrade for me (on a TP now) and 450$ is a bit high if you ask me!

This is incorrect information. SERO is no longer active or even usable nor honored by Sprint. Read the following article for information about the Sprint Everything plan instead:

My husband and I are on SERO and in May his account was out of contract, so he went to Best Buy and got a new phone and he was able to use the $150 discount and still keep his SERO plan.
Probably if he had bought the phone through the SERO website or over the phone with Sprint, he would have had to change from his $30 SERO plan.

Sorry to say, but you are wrong. I am on SERO. On November 1st, I got the Touch Pro with my SERO plan and there was no fuss about getting me off of it. You just cannot sign-up for a SERO account anymore as it's changed to SEP. It IS honored by Sprint.
And yes, I went directly through Sprint, not Best Buy or any other place.

No, you misread what I wrote. SERO is no longer an option to buy for new customers, however, you can stay on it but not if you want a new phone, I went directly to Sprint and they wouldn't let me "upgrade" to a new phone unless I switched over to an Everything Plus plan and paid ~$62 for 500 minutes and TEP.
Did you guys even read the link at the bottom of my post?

I read your post and the link, but the fact is Sprint is still honoring the SERO plan. How do you think I was able to get a Touch Pro brand-new? I just bought it like anyone else (though I had to call the "special plan" telesales number. My girlfriend just asked about getting the Touch Pro 2 on her SERO plan and telesales said no problem at all.
If you were asked by the rep to switch plans, you were suckered into it. You don't have to switch at all, unless you want a special phone (like the Pre, Instinct, or Android). WinMo phones, for now, are fine on SERO.
One more question. If I buy the phone myself (ebay for example), can I activate something like instinct or palm pre on any plan other than simply everything?

I got the TP last November... had the Mogul on SERO before that. Bought the TP on ebay, switched the account over to the new phone online, didn't have to talk to anybody. No fuss, no muss. I'm still on the sweet, sweet $30 a month plan.
You will have to call and ask what plans they are compatible with. Definitely not SERO though.

No one was suckered, except possibly this comment which was unnecessary. Depending on whom you talk to you get different answers. BTW, not all windows mobile phones are available if you try to switch from SERO to Simply Everything. BTW, I never signed up, i was preparing for when i go out of contract in December to see what my options were. you were simply offering advice based on your experience as though it was the standard and norm, it's not.
I keep seeing people saying that Android phones aren't SERO compatible. Where has this been stated or posted?
I looked over Sprint's HERO announcement and the only specific requirement as an unlimited data plan... which SERO has. Are we just speculating?
The folks over at Sprint Users have word otherwise... http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=193640
Spoke with a sales rep the other day who said that the TP2 would be available to SERO plan holders, he claimed I may not be able to order it right off the bat but that I would be able to get it without changing plans. He could see in the system that I was on SERO and brought it up before I did, which was good as this was the whole purpose of the call. The phone is available through telesales right now so I don't know if anyone has any better info.

You're offering nothing but your own experience, so why should anyone believe what you're saying? Unless you have some sort of official document you'd like to share with us?
Reps don't know jack **** about anything. That's why it takes some calling around to get some things done. But you can upgrade your phone with SERO, including the $150 discount, and you can transfer or clone your SERO line.
there seems to be a lot of conflicting comments in this post....it seems like you are all commenting based on your experiences some of which are, at this point in time, "outdated"....i am not claiming to be 100% correct, but i, like many of you, am going to comment on my experience and those of friends/coworkers both ~8 years ago up until ~2 weeks ago. Sprint has morphed policies many times during my relationship with them and probly even more then i can recall, since in my first 6 years, i only changed phones once.
Early experience (6 years):
- I am a long time subscriber 9+ years with sprint. my first 6 years, my account was under "Preferred Business Partner" under my fathers name as he was a UPS(yes, the men in brown who deliver your phones) employee. The plan was ~$40 for what was essentially a SERO plan with slightly more minutes.
It is important to note that during this time, I always paid the bill with my $, from my bank acct. and i am not a "Jr., the 3rd, etc". Sprint was aware of the situation and let it slide. There was a brief conflict once when i switched to a "Power Vision"(early evdo, Sanyo-M1) phone and they tried to raise my bill $15, but that was in the good ol'days when customer service could make changes to your account if you if they "liked" you.
Mid-phase experience (1 year):
- When i moved from home, my father wanted me to switch the acct into my name. This caused conflicts and set off my quest for SERO....
- My father and i walked into a Sprint Corp. store and switched the acct. ownership. The whole process took 10 mins most of which were the girl messing with the computer. She printed up a sheet, we both signed and that was that. For the next 2 months, my fathers name was still on the account.
- When it finally changed to my name, the first bill i received was over $100.....i called customer service and they informed me that my monthly bill was now ~$70 due to the name switch and the extra was retro-charges from the change. Since i was not a UPS employee, i could no longer get that cheaper rate. My employer at the time(State of NJ) only had discount rates with Verizon and ATT, so i couldn't get a rebate on my own.
- After a few months of paying $70 and reading the Sprint Users Forums looking for a better plan, i learned about SERO, which at the time was actually restricted to employees and family members. I called constantly and tried to convince the customer service reps to give me the plan. However, i had no employee contact and even though one girl apparently tried to use her info to give it to me, it did not work.
- During this time, the iPhone was announced exclusively for ATT(pricing was not yet released) and i called Sprint one more time to use it as leverage. The customer service rep i spoke to this time was actually rude and i told them to "cancel my plan NOW!". This was the magical moment when i was first introduced to the "Retentions" department.....These people were everything early customer service was and more. In minutes, i had the equivalent of my old $40 plan back and was very satisfied.
Recent experience (2 years-early 2009):
- Shortly after my new job started, one of my new coworkers exposed me to the wonder that was newer WM phones(he had the Touch). Again i hopped on various phone sites that i knew of at the time(phonescoop, Sprint Users) and researched Sprints WM phone offerings and PPC/smartphone plans.
- I decided on the Mogul and though a helpful post by an employee on Sprint Users Forums that SERO had recently and quietly opened up to employee friends/new customers and could be attained easily by using a website. All that was required for conformation on the site was a valid sprint email address for reference. The OP noted that a specific and generic email([email protected] IIRC..) would work and many others posted saying they had success using it.
- I just missed out on this....when i tried the email, it did not work...so i got crafty....i googled the interwebs for Sprint executives contacts. I used one of the VPs emails and it worked! Days later, my Mogul arrived and all was good....i though....
- The next week i received 2 bills, i called cust. serv. to straighten it out and the rep could only "see" one account. confused, the noob rep. pased me off to a more experienced rep. who could only "see" the "other" plan. after yet another transfer, i spoke to a rep who could "see" both accounts.....
- apparently, my Mogul was on a new # under the SERO plan and my old phone was still active on my original #. This was a major headache....over the ensuing week, i was on the phone with Sprint cust. serv. literally every day, for a total of 24 hours....Initially, they gave me the ultimatum of keeping the Mogul with the new # and SERO, or keeping the old plan and # and getting the Mogul on that plan. Obviously, i wanted the Mogul/SERO on my original # and tried tirelessly to make this happen. In their defense, the Sprint reps were all entirely sympathetic and genuinely tried to make this happen for me, but the "system" would not allow them to make it happen. The problem lied in the fact that Sprint was in the middle of switching to a new "system" and i had one account in each which was why some reps could only "see" one of them.
- finally....again, through use of the magic words "cancel" and "iPhone", i was directed to the all-powerful Retentions dept. With a little work, they were able to make my dream a reality. The only catch was, i had to "buy" the Mogul again and return the one i already had. Annoying, but totally worth it.
- 1 year later, i upgraded to the Touch Pro on the day it came out. I called telesales and they sold me the phone and even though i was technically not eligible, gave me the discount. The only change to my plan was resetting my upgrade/rebate date.
Friends:
Ram - Summer 2007:
- shortly after i successfully got my Mogul and SERO, i told my friends and the coworker who opened my eyes to WM about my plan. i coached my coworker through the process first and he actually got a plan better then SERO(5000minutes/$35 & cheap calls to India) with his Touch.(more on him later)
Jason
December 2008
- after learning how much he was paying for his Blackberry on verizon($80/month), i schooled him on SERO. he and his girl at the time switched to SERO, porint their #s through the website....only stipulation, they had to buy new BBs from Sprint.
January 2009
- after seeing my TP during our ski trip, he fell in love with HTC/WM. he upgraded, again, without technically being eligible and only changing his plans upgrade/rebate date.
NOW (early/mid 2009 - present):
things done changed apparently......
my recent knowledge through convo:
- I called a few months back to see what kind of deal i could get on the Pre(just curiousity...no real intent to actually switch). based on my past experience, i immediately threatened to cancel and got to Retentions. During my convo with this rep. i learned a lot:
1 . i was informed that at some point mid-2009, retentions was somewhat "neutered". They no longer have %100 percent control of making changes to accts.
2. SERO, as i/we know it, is no longer is offered to ANYONE. New employees are now given a modified Everything Plan.
3. I was also informed that Sprint policy now is to do everything legally in their power to phase out EXISTING SERO accts. This is done by making changes to contracts at resigning tied to upgrades/rebates.
i cannot confirm #2 as i don't know any sprint employees. i can confirm both #s 1 and 3 though....
#3 was confirmed through my attempt at haggling for a Pre. durring the above convo, i was told flat out that they would make me agree to a new plan to get the "1/2 time" smaller rebate($100 off IIRC) on the Pre. I tried again the next day and this time, i spoke to someone obviously coached in how to deliver the new company line.....this rep said "The Pre is not 'compatible' with the SERO plan" and i would need a newer "compatible" plan, which of course, the cheapest was less than the $99 Everything Plan, but $20 more than my SERO....
#1 was confirmed with my buddy Ram's recent experience.....His Touch crapped out last week. No touchscreen = HTC Paperweight. His 2 year contract is up on October 11th and he will be eligible for for his full upgrade/rebate. He has called retentions multiple times this week and even tried going into a corporate store and everyone has told him the same line....he has to wait till Oct 11th to get his full rebate....the best they would offer him was the "1/2 time" rebate. As the nice guy i am, i dusted off my Mogul and lent it to him to activate until Oct 11th. Once this date hits, i will be able to comment more on #2 as he is planning on getting either the TP2, Pre, or Hero.....
my predicition:
on Oct. 11th, he will be forced to change his plan IF he wants the upgrade discount. While he technically doesn't have SERO, his plan is better....
my strategy going forward:
this goes back to my very honest conversation with the retentions rep a few months ago.....he said that policy is to "do everything they can LEGALLY to phase out existing SERO plans".....unless a new contract is agreed upon, Sprint cannot change the terms. Pairing the upgrade/rebates to new contracts is their strategy. The way to get around this is to buy phones at full price and then have them activated. It sucks to drop $600 on a phone, but saving $60 per month by doing so is worth it.
cont....
future Sprint policy predictions:
Since their policy has changed so much so fast since the hemorrhaging of customers due to the iPhone and bad publicity, there is no reason not to believe that their policy won't change drastically again based on it's success/failure. Depending on how successful or not their planned "phaseout" goes, i see more possible policy changes....
1. my hope is, if it goes well and the majority of accts are changed, Sprint may decide to scrap it and allow the last of the holdouts to keep SERO to ensure they retain their business....some $ is better then competitors getting the $ they want/need.
2. if the policy is a failure and the majority of SERO customers refuse to sign new plans, i see Sprint significantly upping their incentives to upgrade. first raising the rebates $50-100. if that doesn't work, maybe even offering top of the line phones "free" all together....
3. regardless of whether or not the first 2 predictions happen, i am almost certain that once they rollout Wimax(4g) nationally, all phones that use it will be "off-limits" to SERO. legally, they can due this as it is a totally separate system/infrastructure and they will. it is the same thing they did to me when i switched to an evdo-capable "Power Vision" phone 5 years ago.
well, there's my 2cents on the topic. it sucks...and it is one of the main reasons i am not switching to the TP2. $600-700 for a phone that offers no increase in cpu while at the same time taxing it with a bigger screen is just not worth it. i am waiting until Sprint puts out a phone that is significantly more powerful than the TP.....preferably based on nVidia's Tegra chipset.....
please comment if you have had any experience that counters mine(and my friends)...trust me, i want to believe/hear different...but again, unless you've had a more positive SERO experience recently with the Pre or TP2, don't post flamming me and telling me i'm wrong....these policy changes are recent and anything before the spring/summer time frame or on any phone older than the Pre just don't apply anymore. sh!t done changed....
cheers,
yerp

sporklover, the facts are with you and not bullet. In fact that Sprint Android announcement looks exactly like the recent SERO eligible 80w, touch pro, Treo Pro and Touch Pro 2 announcements and is very different from the Everything only Pre/insticnt announcements.
SERO and the older plans most Sprint customers are on, aren't "WM only". Out of scores of handsets and smartphones eligible on older plans and SERO, what the tho which are not eligible, the Pre and Instict, have in common atre things like exclusivity to Sprint of both OS and handset, which won't be the case with the Androids.
Sprint also signaled only Everything plans with Pre and Instinct five months before they actually hit the the stores, no such thing with Android models.

I think you are very incorrect, in fact all WM phones are available.

Wrong again, when you say "not if you want a new phone." You can get a new one of every single sprint phoen except Insticnt or Pre on SERO.

This is incorrect information. SERO is no longer active or even usable nor honored by Sprint.

SERO is fully honored by Sprint. Like many plans it is no longer newly offered but it is renewed complete with new customer pricing on phones -- just like Friends and Family and Free and Clear are.
Most people renewing don't get everything plans! They keep existing plans.
If you have been with Sprint you know that you can ALWAYS are making new plans and expiring the new offer of old plans but you can always keep you existing plan and get phone discoutns, even if those plans are no longer offered.
You can buy a Touch Pro 2 for $350 from Sprint today by renewing a SERO or renewing (or even adding a line) on a Friends and Family or Free and Clear.
As far as the link on the bottom of your posts it is dead wrong and proven so over the past year. You don't need to "call multiple reps" to get a 800w, treo pro or touch pro or touch pro 2 on SERO, you just need to buy it and activate it.

Aero is correct sir heh. I just left Sprint BWTS at the end of July, and they were able to port my employee account over to the $30/month SERO plan, I have spoken to 5 reps since then about getting the TP2 and they all have said it is easy to do and very possible. (I contacted 5 mainly because aye, there *are* reps in the company that don't know what the hell they are doing, and I'd rather get a few responses to make sure it is norm.)

Loose my Upgrade?

Hey everyone, I realize this thread is VERY common but I have a good question. I have a line that I upgraded in March and received $60 off my bill. I DID NOT use the phone upgrade though. Come April 1st will I lose this upgrade for the unsubsidized phone or can I wait for the EVO 3D and use it then?
Danke!
how ong have you been a customer? how much are you paying for your plan?
You'll still have your full upgrade after april 1st, after you use it then you are boned for two years, if your payment amount isn't great enough. Got that from a sprint rep. Hope this helps.
Edit: just talked to sprint and sad to say, after april first, you will revert to a two year upgrade. Sucks!

I talked to a sprint rep on the phone (someone in India) and basically told her that if they didn't give me the upgrade I would leave sprint for AT&T. I had AT&T before, no problem going back to them if they do a bait and switch on me. If you're polite and thoughtful, they probably will help you.
They transferred me to an American woman (probably because she was more experienced to handle people cancelling, most likely was retention), and she was able to make sure my upgrade would be transferred over. If it doesn't happen tomorrow, I'm switching carriers

I think that I'm going to call and try that. I have been with sprint for a while, not ten years but about 5, and I have waited on my upgrade since Nov for a better device to come out. I don't want to cancel and don't want to play the add a line/cancel a line game so I will try this. Thanks

looks like were all hearing mixed things....
i just got off the phone with sprint (india) and after 15 minutes and lots of hold, we came to the conclusion that while i am currently sprint premier, i will only qualify for premier silver after tomorrow.... normally that means every year i get $75 for an upgrade, and $150 every 22 months
but since i will be eligible for an upgrade (in june) under current premier qualifications, i will NOT lose that upgrade come evo 3d time.... but that AFTER i upgrade this time, i will change over to the new color system, and will only be eligible for $75 in june 2012, and $150 in april 2013.
i hope this helps people understand the situations
tl;dr : current premier upgrade = youll retain until after your next upgrade , then becomes silver or gold premier
Yes...there are many conflicting stories...i too am in the same situation. Basically my friend and sprint told me to upgrade and then return the upgrade and go back to my old phone. He told me that usually it will reset you back to eligible. I'm not sure if its going to work but if not I can always raise hell All who are eligible now and got word that you will "retain" eligibility please post your results after April 1. I will update once i return the phone.

I was told that I would lose my early upgrade on April 1st, so I would have to wait until my 2 yrs is up in November in order to get the discount.
i was told today by a sprint rep, That you shouldn't lose your upgrade. The change will start after u upgrade, then the two year or one year thing should start.
I received a letter from Sprint. I sent an email asking about the change and how long I've been with the company. I don't have the letter on my phone so I can't post it but paraphrasing it said that as of now (beginning of March when I got the letter) I would be eligible for a full upgrade June 1 (used an upgrade on my evo on launch day 6/4/2010). As of April 1 I would be reverted to premier silver status and would no longer be eligible for an upgrade. As of September 1 of this year I will reach 10 years with sprint and be switched to premier gold and receive yearly upgrades. When the pre-order date for the evo 3d is announced I'm going to try and get that changed. As of now though, according to the letter, I'm not eligible till 9/1.
It definitely seems that people are getting conflicting information. The letter I received is the same information that someone on the evo forum who works for sprint retentions gave.

The whole new Sprint Premiere thing is a little out in left field if you ask me. But it is much better than what Verizon is doing to everyone.
As for my upgrade I have been holding off on my upgrade since Oct 2010.
So I am sitting on a 150.00 credit to my Evo 3d.
My poor Evo 4g will feel so alone.
Which reminds me I need to goto sprint today and yell at them about my LG Optimus I put on my plan recently. (They didn't give me the line transfer credit, nor my 100.00 mail in rebate for the phone.)
Wonder why there would be different responses? Don't all of the sprint reps get the same info? Got a different response, myself, between the first day of ctia and when I posted...
Sent from my twopointthree heroc
I actually received a response back from my e-mail as well as a phone call from a an Account Services Specialist from Sprint and they offered to extend the upgrade until my contract ends. They definitely confirmed though that if you were Premier Silver before, you will lose the early upgrade until you qualify for Premier Gold.
I was eligible april 1st and thats when the premier program changed so I lost my upgrade and so I called sprint yesterday about my status and after 5 mins they agreed to change my status within 24 hours... they changed my upgrade status in less than 3 hours... but after i get the 3d i'm screwed for 22 months... but I'm getting the best buy buy back program so I will get like $300 or so back when i trade in to make up for not being able to upgrade yearly then I can just buy a new phone at regular price...
I just checked my account and I'm good to upgrade in Nov. I like what I see with the 3d but I think I'm going to hold out for the next big thing. Funny thing is my wifes line (secondary) got upgraded back in Oct thru wirefly but on the sprint site it still shows her eligible for an upgrade. We live in SD so when we got evos we had to change our numbers to a different state to activate them. I wonder if that eligibility is false. Lol I'm going to try to get her the 3d with it to see what happens.

My upgrade was in Feb and I still havent used it because I'm waiting for the Evo 3D. I was told that I would lose it after April 1st, but I asked to speak to a surpervisor because I was suppose to be Gold anyways because my plan was always over $89.99. So once they looked at my account they changed me to Gold and put my upgrade for april 1. I was happy. I also called the sales people to change the website to reflect my upgrade and they did. Anyone of yall can be Gold member by staying on a plan over $89.99 for 3 months. if you do it now then you can get the Evo 3D by June. If the plan u have now is $69.99 call them and they can change it to a plan over $89.99 so you can get the upgrade in time. The customer rep I spoke to looked at my account and I've had the simply everything plan for months. It was only in March that I went down to $69.99. So that put me to the silver premier. So what they did is back dated it to reflect that March was also Simply everything. They helped me big time cuz I didnt want to lose my upgrade. Call and do the same. I always tell them to note the account and I even talk to a supervisor because I tell them that the story changes everytime I speak to someone different. I hope this info helps all of yall who lost their upgrade but I fought to keep mine. To be a Gold member just stay on a plan over $89.99 for 3 months.
add me to the list.
in January it said "150$ OFF on May 1st, 2011."
now..."75$ OFF on May 1st, 2011, 150$ off on March 1st, 2012"

nope.... only if you had a note on your account about it, or if you had your upgrade before april 1st.

Best method of upgrade for Current Evo Owners?

I need to start hearing some possible options since it looks like next month will be the release date.
I joined Sprint last year when the Evo released.
What would you guys do if you wanted the EVO 3D?
Thanks
Did you check your upgrade eligibility on https://manage.sprintpcs.com/specialoffers/RebateWelcome.do
Like you, I joined sprint last year on the launch day of the EVO4G at the $69.99 plan. This site says I am eligible for a full upgrade for the phone on my account. Interestingly enough it says at the bottom this program ends June 4th.

i have the same thing. I got the evo 4g at launch. up until april 1st the system said that I had a $150 credit avalible june 1st 2011. now it says I have a $75 credit june 1st and a full credit 4-1-12! All I did was call sprint telesales (they are the only ones that can do this) I very polity asked if I could have my upgrade back because I would like to get the evo 3D. they put me on hold, when they came back they said that I could get my upgrade back and that I needed to call on june first because that is when my account resets. She also said that she was making notes in my account to make this easy when I called back. i asked her to send me an email confirming this conversation. I got a email that had her specialist id# team name and date (dont think i need it but
I have had problem with sprint in the past)
So basically if you have a $75 credit right now you can call sprint telesales (888-253-1315) and ask for your $150 credit back. Mentioning the evo 3d may or may not help, but the rep did talk about the evo 3d for a second with me when I noted I wanted to get one.
Just got my upgrade back to $150..telesales didn't help me they routed my call to account services...all I did was act dumb about not knowing about the premier changes. I told him I had a full upgrade in March and all of a sudden my full upgrade was gone...so he went through all the details about the changes...and then reset my account thus giving me back my full upgrade oh yeah and made sure I got a email of the conversation

If I wanted it? I do. It will release next month. I will be absolutely flabbergasted if it doesn't come out on June 3rd (also my birthday). That would be a deviation from their tradition of releasing phones on fridays, big-deal phones on the first friday of june and also neglect to honor the Evo4G's anniversary(ish)...
The Evo really was a big deal for Sprint, just as the Evo3D is....does anyone remember Sprint's phone selection prior to the Evo4G? Quirky at best for dumbphones, random (crap) at best for smartphones....the hero or the moment or a BB....ick....and the hero--while a great phone--was a fluke.
So what am I doing? I will be trading in my Evo4G for $180 at Radioshack, I called Sprint and got my upgrade turned back into full (from $75) and I reserved a phone at Radioshack...so I will most likely be walking into Radioshack at 5am on June 3rd and likely walking out at 5:30am on with $25 in my left hand and the best smartphone to date in my right hand--as I was told (when I posed this exact question) by the RS sales rep who agreed, whose manager agreed and whose district manager agreed that they would all be shocked if it didn't come out on June 3rd....none of us know better, it just fits a pattern...and for the Evo a new tradition.
That's what I'd do.
if ur like me, i need an upgrade every yr
all u have to do is stick with a plan tht is $89.99 and up to become a gold member and receive a yrly upgrade. Next yr the Evo 3D will be a dinosaur and so I rather be a gold member than have to upgrade evey 2 yrs. I lost my upgrade in feb with the new changes but got it back cuz they made a mistake and put me as a silver member. I've been on the everything plan for months and tht qualifies me to be a gold member. i since changed my plan to the everything data 900 $89.99...if i go any less than tht then i'll be a silver member again! no waaaay!
before the evo phone came out, The touch pro 2 was a great phone but wasnt an android phone but the screen was big.

If you plan on upgrading every year then it should pay to go with the higher plan as it should run less then purchasing a new phone at full retail once a year.
Luckily I have been with Sprint over 10 years so I qualify for gold otherwise I would never be able to convince my wife to spend more money on our cell phone bill.
Being able to deal with Sprint for over 10 years, I totally feel like I deserve the yearly upgrade! I have been on the phone for countless number of hours over the years with some of the worst customer service on the planet and had some of the most stressful phone calls with them.
As a long time customer, I must say they customer service has improved more then words can describe from where it was back in the day......
I'm new to Sprint.. Got the original EVO on launch and was wondering, what if I canceled my account, pay the ETF, and open another account?
You guys are having a lot of luck resetting your credit to $150. I spoke to supervisors and a whole slew of reps without any luck.

Etf is only $120, I'll open a new acct, switch numbers, then cancel the old one and sell my evo 4g. In the end, it might turn out to be a free phone.

A simpler thing to do would just add a new line then cancel the old one. Why go through to trouble of opening a whole new account.
Wouldn't it be much easier/cheaper to sell our Evos on Ebay for around $250 then buy the Evo 3D from Sprint for $425 (Assuming the Evo 3D is $500 minus the $75 rebate)? This all varies depending on the price of the Evo 3D and how much you can sell your Evo in Ebay.

Just checked that page and same thing.
It says June 1st $75 and 4/1/12 $150.
I am a little confused though. I am one year into my 2 year commitment. If i were to use this "upgrade" from Sprint, Would I be adding 2 years making it a 3 year commitment.
Not sure I want to to commit that long. Any idea what the outright price of the phone will be? Noticed you could also trade in my Evo for $150 account credit.

The upgrade pricing is for signing a new 2yr contract which takes the place of your current contract so you would be on a new 2yr contract, not 3yr.
They have a bunch of different options when signing a new contract like if are premier silver and only a year into your contract you can sign a new 1yr and get $25 off a new phone, or a new 2 yr and get $75 off a new phone (which you will be eligible for on 6/1). After your contract expires (4/1/2012) and you are eligible for a full upgrade you can get $75 off with a new 1yr and $150 off with a new 2yr contract.
The problem is that new phones have discounts and rebates which you're only eligible for with a full upgrade. As with the EVO the phone was $550 I believe w/ $100 mail-in-rebate, $150 upgrade, and it's $200 purchase price that comes to $450. The other $100 was an instant rebate that sprint gives you and I'm almost positive that you only get that rebate with the full upgrade price. I'm even pretty sure you're not eligible for the mail-in-rebate so the difference between the 1yr and 2yr upgrades is really about $275 rather than just the difference between $75 and $150. Someone correct me if I am wrong but I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

You would get the EVO 3d for the discounted price on the new line.
Now what can I do I have had the Evo since October and my upgrade was supposed to be this year but got it anyways the whole first month I exchanged it, all different problems. 3 times and now I have a white Evo with the same dust problems and light leak and a few dings on the top right any suggestions?
Sprint is starting to piss me off, they're trying to screw me out of my yearly upgrade and talking to customer service is a complete waste of time. Now I'm trying to post a question to sprints message board and this is the second night in a row it has gone down for maintenance at the very moment I try to post my question.... and now it's back up five minutes later.
Google 'customer service hall of shame' and you'll see Sprint's been number one for three or four years now.

just had to get that off my chest

$75 Upgrade hope

Like a few others here, I am only eligible for the $75 upgrade (got a moment back in april last year, bought evo outright when it launched), which at best, would land me the 3D for $395 (if amazon honors it). I decided to snoop around the internet some more and came across this:http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3011929
I haven't tried it yet, but I will tomorrow. I'm on a secondary line on our family plan, so if it works for me, it should work for anyone else.
I will post my success or failure (knock on wood) story below. If anyone else has luck, please post!
How is this any different than the "absolute CS" thread?

I haven't tried it yet, but I will tomorrow. I'm on a secondary line on our family plan, so if it works for me, it should work for anyone else.
I will post my success or failure (knock on wood) story below. If anyone else has luck, please post!

I hate to bump this thread but gotta tell you something. The fact that you are the secondary line and not the primary on your family plan isn't good for you. If your primary line is eligible for the 12 month premier gold upgrade then they're not going to do it on another line. Sprint has been doing this for people who were on Premier before the Gold/Silver thing and lost their 12 month upgrade. Your secondary line would have never had the 12 month upgrade. Your best bet is to get them to reset the date on the main line unless you are already sprint premier gold then use that line to buy the phone and after they activate it go back online and switch that lines old phone back to it and switch your evo 3d to your line.
I can't speak for anyone else, but it worked for me. I was able to get two lines (neither were the primary) upgraded, and both lines got the evo with in 2 weeks of the initial release.
I called and asked if there was a way I could get the 3d at the 199 price, the lady put me on hold, then came back and said I could buy my upgrade for $75 for each line. I said no thank you, then I politely asked if there was anyway I could do it without paying. She put me on hold again, and came back and told me I would be pushed through in a few hours. She even called me a few hours later to let me know I was ready to preorder.
Yes it also worked for me. My primary line was already elgible, but they still upgraded my number which was a secondary, I had no luck with the 3rd line though.
Did it earlier today after talking to the 2nd CSR. The main line on my account WAS premier gold (we got it upgraded back in april this year). My secondary line which would've been eligible come this december got it's eligibility reset, so it's now eligible. Just like with shadowhawk2020, they called me about 2 hours later telling me that I was eligible for the fully discounted upgrade.

damn I had tried a few times with no luck then got the purchase option.. I took it, worried that i had no other choice. whatever it's still way cheaper this way
ive been with sprint forever and i've learned from experience just keep repeating a problem you have had with there service or something you don't agree about while your trying to get what you want and even if it takes you all the way to the cancellation department they are the ones that can do the most for you anyway. i've had them send me new phones. i had an upgrade from touch pro to touch pro 2 for free. i got them to give my secondary line an upgrade a year early. and now just recently got them to push my upgrade a year early for my evo to evo3d not to mention having money knocked off my bill. just gotta play your cards man. goodluck

"SERO" in 2012 - still a great deal

So decided to go ahead with an order for the EVO LTE anyway, despite no LTE towers yet live. I'm in Atlanta so may get an LTE signal first, but not holding my breath.
This would be my personal device (I have a corporate-supplied Droid 4 - decent phone/amazing VZW LTE, but saddled with a horrible camera), so I was looking for the lowest ongoing monthly expense I could find. Considered a T-Mob value plan for $50, but their 4G coverage in my neighborhood (3 miles due east of downtown) is abysmal, plus they throttle you after 2GB of any data consumption (EDGE included) and want you to pay $400 and up for the smartphone - all while committing to a 2 year deal. Not much of a bargain.
Enter Sprint SERO. Wow. Called telesales, and so help me it took one hour to get the order (their telesales team is in Estonia or something - the Eastern Eurpoean accents were killing me after a while). But I got the $40+$10 500 min. unlimited everything else plan. Had to pay $200 for the phone, but no activation fee (not a credit - it's never charged).
Used a widely available email address and employee ID#, Russ someone. You can find it on Google.
This is probably old news to many on this board, but to this guy it was so novel I decided to post it!
Happy hunting. After an hour with the Sprint telesales team, I can now say - EVO LTE and SERO - I has it!
Your EPRP plan is not the old-school SERO. Everything Plus Messaging doesn't have the unlimited data of the $40+$10 SERO Premium plan
Sounds like he described the $40 + $10 SERO Premium plan to me. No other plan including EPRP would be described as costing $40 +$10.
People try to act like it is so impossible to get these SERO Premium plans as a new costomer. I have gotten two SERO premium plans within the past year. Once when I convinced my girlfriend to switch from verizon to sprint, and other time I was able to talk sprint in to giving me back my original sero plan after I had been on an Everything data 40 plan for 2 years.

You must have some serious persuading powers, sprintusers SERO forum is full of people who failed. Share some pointers?

All I did was sign up for a brand new EPRP plan online using the Russ. email address. The very next day I called the sero support number and said " I would like to change my plan to the Sero Premium plan. The first rep was about to do it then said it wasn't offered. I said ok and hung up. Less than 2 minutes later I called the same number and said the exact same thing and the rep switch me over to the sero plan in less then 3 minutes.
I gave up my old school sero (was actually F&F 500) $30 a month with sprint2sprint, first incoming min free, pick 3, pick 2, sprint ld promo and n/w at 6 with a 25% discount. My bill was $22.50 a month with a TP2. Gave that up (it was hard) for the evo ED 450 with 25% discount. Had that for a while, then Sero Premium came out. I did get it back with all the same perks except MRC discount and n/w at 6 had to go. Still got everything else, great deal been with Sprint for years. It's not easy to get back or get but yes it can be done. People that say it can't are just trollin and upset that they failed. It was a while ago I got it back, don't remember exactly how I did it but I know it took a lot of effort and multiple attempts. You gotta get lucky with Sprint. So yes it's possible to get SERO but it's also possible to win the lottery. Sometimes people get lucky sometimes you don't that is just how it is. As far as it being easy, it's certainly not easy unless you get lucky. Don't loose sleep over not getting it cause it's tough.

Second attempt then, you really do have quite a bit of luck.

Thanks for the reply. I'm definitely not losing sleep over it since I've had my SERO plan since 2006 (oh the joys of porting my number out of Sprint to an AT&T prepaid phone and then back the next day to avoid changing it) and SERO-P since last year. I was even able to reference my old non-SERO account that I had had since 1999 and make it count for Premier Gold status for my SERO account. Too bad yearly upgrades are gone now.
I was just curious because I've heard about a lot of people being unable to get SERO back after going on EPRP. So I'm assuming your 20% employee discount survived all the recent discount reviews?

No monthly discounts anymore, they let me keep it with ED 450 plan, but it was immediately removed on SeroP. I actually had F&F 500 (same as sero) back in the day which made it easier for discounts to stick. Was a hard plan to give up I remember there being threads how much more the evo was going to cost in the long run vs old sero but in my opinion for how awesome the evo was it was well worth it. I couldn't go back and Sero P is still a great deal.

I wouldnt so much call it all luck. I knew what I wanted and did/said what I thought was needed for sprint to agree. I got my original sero plan placed back on my account all through email conversations. At first they told me they were not putting people on the Old SERO plan at this time. I replied to that email stating why I felt I should get it, based on the fact that I used to have it and they gave it to me.
I actually just upgraded from my $30 sero plan to the $50 one for the evo 4g lte. quite the upgrade from the touch pro 2.
Embarrassingly enough, I stuck with the original HTC Touch from 2006 to 2011. Once SERO P was introduced, I waited until Evo 3D came out, and then upgraded both the plan and the phone. Glad I'm on June upgrade cycle, should be able to snag an LTEvo this Friday.
Are you able to sign up for the EPRP on an existing line, or can you only do it when adding new lines?

New line only, but the old trick of porting your number out and then back in might still work.
Hmm, my phone is going to be a new line, but I'm getting it at Best Buy. Anyone know if they're able to set up an EPRP if I give them the email and employee code?
Sprint stores/call center only I think
This deal won't fly in 3rd party resellers, I think.

You're correct. This won't work. In fact, I'm on SERO P and I can't even get a phone in a corporate store. You should've seen the mess I was in when I pre-ordered my EVO 3D at a corporate store. I was there the morning it was released. As soon as they opened the doors, I got in there and started to get the phone registered, and they're like, "Uh, we can't activate your phone. You'll need to do it through telesales."
I called SERO CS and got a guy that basically took me off my SERO account so they could activate my phone in the store, then put me back on the SERO account after it was activated.
If ANYONE ever tells you that you CAN'T get a SERO P plan right now, they're lying. They've done it, and still can do it. You just have to get the right person. Your first stop should be contacting the SERO CS department. I don't have the number, only because when I do *2 on my phone, it goes right to them because my number is attached to an "employee account."

A corporate store SHOULD be able to do it if they are walked through it by Employee Care / Telesales. I guess I'll test out this theory on Friday. I bought an Evo 3D on release day last year, so my upgrade isn't available until June 1. An Employee Care supervisors wasn't willing to move it up, but suggested I go to a corporate store and invoke some arcane rule about being able to get the upgrade 2 weeks early if my current phone has "technical issues", which apparently don't even have to be very specific.

Yeah, I called them today, too. They told me the same thing, but told me I could try and call on Friday because the Supervisors should be able to do it if I'm only 2 weeks out. So I can wait. I think I want to go to the store and see it before I actually buy it.
I got my EVO 3D on launch day, so I'm in the same boat.

I left SERO to get an Android phone long ago, think it was the Hero. Back then smartphones weren't allowed on SERO. Now I want SERO back. Working on getting back to Sero before I upgrade
