Battery Life - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

As a over night worker i was able to put the lte thru a good days/nights work ..
my night started at 10pm with a green light full charge. for the rest of the night i put it thru everything my evo og would have gone thru plus maybe a little more due to it being new. This includes texting, phone calls, streaming pandora ( roughly 2-3 hrs ), playing mp3s ( about an hr ), little youtube and toped off with checking news and weather. Now a night like this would normally net me around 19% when i get off or even maybe a lil boost on the community charger thats left in the breakroom.
When i left work at 645 i had over 60% battery life. I couldnt be happier.. due to it being a holiday weekend it will be abused a lot som im looking forward to see how far i can really drain it.

My usage is a lot lighter than yours, but the battery really seems to hold up well. I took it off the charger when left work yesterday around 5 and when I came back to work this morning at 8, it was at 85%. My OG Evo, with it's 2-year old battery, would have been well under 50% by then. Unlike most folks, I charge at work and go through the night without charging.

my wifes evo cannot last a days work which is usually 10 hrs or so without a charger.. told her to stop watching so much midget porn but i guess a girl has her needs

The midget porn will get you every time!

Hard to put it down once you start watching it. Literally drains your battery faster than anything else. Especially when it's in 3D on the EVO 3D.

That's awesome....I actually bought a 3600 battery for my Evo 4G just because of how heavy use it gets. Still only lasts a day and a half or so.

I won't get a true test of the battery life until I'm back at work on Tuesday, but for now, my phone has been off the charger for a little over three hours with wifi on and GPS/Bluetooth/LTE off. I've made a few phone calls and sent a couple of text messages and e-mails. My phone is also doing Gmail sync and Exchange push sync. My battery sits at 93%. Protracting that same amount of use throughout the day it will be at about 84% by the time I would normally get home from work. Pretty dang good.

I work night shift. unplugged at 5 pm yesterday. was at 30% left after 15 hours. over 3 hours screen on time.

Ive got LTE on, GPS on, Bluetooth on, and Wifi On. medium use, few calls all under 3 minutes, some texting and browsing, ect
off the charger for 4 hours on the dot, and im at 74%

Well, if you want to make a real test turn that WiFi off and turn on gps whole time and do your regular work in 3g. Even an old EVO will have a good battery life on WiFi.

This is great to hear! I was wondering about the battery life. I am curious how it will last for me when I get it (ordered through WireFly). I have a horrible signal here at work with my Epic, and it drains my battery way too fast searching for a signal.

I am pretty impressed with the battery life so far too. This phone is light years better than the 3D in every way.

I know it wasn't a reply to me but ill chime in here on one part.. I never turn GPS off.. my og EVO never used 4 g at work.. was to scared to kill battery lol. Only thing I did not have on was bluetooth.
Edit: I still have yet to hook up to charger and I'm betting I'm no lower then 40%

One thing that eats a lot of battery is gps, and one thing that doesn't is BT.
You really goofed on that one man.
Also, if you go under Settings/Power/Battery use, it will tell you your battery percentage.

From my testing on wifi, so far it's about the same as Evo 3D and Epic Touch in playing youtube videos in the dark - about 4 min of video per percent of battery charge.
This was only after one charge/discharge cycle. So I'm sure it will be better.

Love the battery life! Damn og EVO had to stay on charger with extended battery.

I don't know what "great" means. It's a very subjective term which means different things for different people. My "great" might be getting 7+ hours of HD video play. Yours might be getting through a day of work with one hour of screen on time. I don't know.
If you want to compare battery life please post which radios were used, the usage graph, the percentage graph, and the on times for display and voice calls.
And the goof. Well, the goof is that you would be getting "greater" battery life with gps off.

good for me is a comparison to the OG evo.. if i can have the same usage with nothing turned off but BT and have 50% more battery life then it was great. streaming pandora over 3g and other misc stuff i did during night would have demanded a battery charge by at least the end off work.. i still have yet to hook up

That's great, man. Just turn that gps off if you aren't using it much.

Is GPS even used if you don't have an app running that requires it?

How bad really is the battery?

So i want to port to verizon and get a 4g phone to lock in my unlimited data, but the horror stories of bad battery life are scaring me!
realistically, can you get through one day of moderate use without charging?
I just got mine, and am trying to train the battery and prune services to get maximum run time.
My first day with it, I ran Pandora in the car, plus Google Nav, plus LTE web browsing, etc. I got 4.5 hours full charge to shutdown.
I am still cycling the battery, and I used Juice Defender free for a few days. Now I am playing with Green Power Free, which I use on my froYo tablet. I can get around 8 hours off charger, now, on the OEM battery.
I want to keep the slim(-ish) profile, so i don't want the extended battery with back. But, I will probably experiment with the fleabay batteries and see what I can get.
Battery is a huge suck factor with the TBolt. But, no worse than the Evo 4G that I also ran for a month. And, for me, the speeds and coverage are better with LTE than wiMax.
I have a feeling that I will be shuffling the phone from charger at home to charger in car to charger at office. I hope that the USB port doesn't break....
I get around 14 hours a charge with light-moderate usage. If I don't use my phone at all it'll last a couple days. If I'm streaming lots of music, browsing the web, and making calls I get 6 hours at most.
It doesn't bother me because I am always somewhere I can charge if need be.
The battery life on the Thunderbolt does leave a little to be desired. That being said, if you want the fastest download and upload speeds than this is your phone. By rooting, you can use different kernels and profiles that CAN extend the battery but that is only a band-aid. I just posted this in another thread two seconds ago but ill post it here as well.

Getting these speeds require battery. If your happy with your 3G than get a different phone and you will get better battery. Its up to you.

my post has nothing to with this thread, but dude..........you signature....HILARIOUS!!!!!!
I get 4-6 hours per battery on my thunderbolt. Screw trying to ooze every bit of battery life out of it. That's not why I bought it. 4g and bluetooth are always on and I use location services and push emails. Twitter and rss feeds autoupdate.
I bought this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004Y6E5Z2
and it works great to charge all batteries. The extra batteries work pretty good, but the phone gets a little confused so I don't go below about 15-20% because sometimes it just shuts down. I think that is the battery software not being able to read the different batteries. The charger can charge one battery before my phone dies so I just switch as needed.
hmm, not exactly what i was hoping to hear. honestly i don't need a 4g phone now, but i want to grandfather in unlimited 4g before verizon takes that option away.
how good can the battery life get if you undervolt, turn off 4g when you're not web browsing, and buy the biggest battery that isn't obnoxiously large? how does the thunderbolt compare to the revolution or charge?

If you don't want a huge battery get the seidio slim .. works better than stock for me and I get around 12 hours of heavy usage.. then when it dies I switch to the stock if I'm not home.

I usually get 5 hrs or so in a 4G area. A whole day roughly 10 hrs in a 3G area.
I just got my thunderbolt a few days ago and I've been stuck spending time next to a charger all the time so far but its worth the speeds!

I only use 4G when I'm downloading a big file anyway....I'm sure if we ever get gb the battery will get better...will I'm hopeing at lease..lol

I lasted 13 hours... But 4G was off for about 8 hours.
Battery blows and something is draining the crap out of it even when sleeping. I'm gonna start analyzing with system panel soon to find the problem.
On a rom that has a toggle or using the lte on off app, you can toggle down to cdma/evdo unless you need to do something data intensive. Leaving lte on all the time isn't nessesary. Using aosp and stock battery, I easily make it through the day. I have the extended one though if I feel like it. Too heavy imo. Plus I look retarded when only I have the huge battery around 10 friends with super thin iphone 4's.

I do sometimes. I just use my phone so much I can get pretty low on 3g alone. So unless I'm on youtube or something I stay on 3g.

It's difficult to say whether one makes it through the day with moderate use since everyone's definition of moderate use is different. I'm rooted with das BAMF remix 1.8, stock kernel and settings, and after about 100 txt messages, half hour's worth of calls, 30 min. or so of gaming, and 30 min to hour of web browsing, all over 15 hours, my phone was at 68% at the end of the day. That's moderate usage for me, but most or some might call that light usage though. Oh and LTE on the entire time, but Wifi used for about 4 of those 15 hours.
my battery life is absolutely outstanding on this phone, even with 4g on all the time. maybe i just lucked out with a good phone?
I'm pretty sure the Revolution isn't that great on battery either and it's got 1 debloated ROM and BING! ewwww Granted the ROM out for it removes Bing but still. Also the Charge sucks down battery faster than the TBolt in my experience. If you get the extended battery like mentioned it lasts a pretty long time. I got it and thought I'd return it because of the size but it's really not that bad. It's definitely worth it to have the speeds and the dev support on this device! Plus it's not a Samsung and it doesn't come preloaded with Bing!!!

Ok. I took the phone off the charger at 7:10am and it started with a 96% and 70% 12:37 pm , now its 9:52 and i still have 51% left of battery time... Im guessing this was a great investment. Mine u. I had wifi and Bluetooth running from 7:45 am until 5:30 pm ,those are my working hours.. The only thing i change is my phone brightness, because i know that runs down a battery for sure. Im freaking amazed..

Looking at your battery stats will be a thing of the past.
And the car charger, I don't even know where I left it at
E3D comes off the charger at 830am
I have everything on, all full time..Gps get used about 1 to 2 hours worth every day ,wifi,4g,bluetooth,auto bright is off and brightness is on max,3 apps updating every hour,150 text,3 hours more or less talk time, moderate to heavy internet use with 4g..
When I get home at night about 9pm I have About 20 to 30% left
On the weekends I don't use the phone as much only on talk time.
I unplug from charger on saturday 7am and by sunday night i have 80% left

I just received my extended battery any tips for first use of it. Do I need to wipe battery stats? As I understand all you do is put it in the phone as soon as you get it and then drain it completely then charge it to 100% unplug take battery out then repeat until you take it out put it back in and it reads 100% immediately, is that correct?

I think you have to wipe your battery stats, but first let it drain it completely. If you are rooted use the current widget while it is in charge, and when ONLY this widget shows to you 100%, then from Rom Manager boot to recovery (do not unplug the phone), then wipe the battery stats from there, reboot the phone, and when it goes to 100% again, then unplug the phone. I use the stock battery and the battery lasts for 30 hours, having the data always on, calls around 1 hour, screen time around 3.5 hours. Its not bad at all i think.

you must be in an area with kick-ass signal strength. I am always barely hovering above 0 bars and get like 16 hours of normal (heavy) use and can get 24 hours out of it if I mellow out data use, screen on auto brightness, wifi off, bluetooth off, 4g off, toggle mobile data off when I know I won't use it for a while, disable background data and syncing.
Shoot I was lucky if I got 8 hrs of light use on my stock battery.

Maybe I've done something wrong but last night this new battery drained completely. I followed my instructions in the last post. Wiped battery stats when the app said 100% and not before. My phone has now been off the charger for 30 mins and I've already lost 12% I wasn't using my phone I was outside mowing my lawn. This is the 3500mah battery from handheld

As the title says I haven't seen anyone actually test the battery for a couple days, it's usually review and move on.
So how is it?
Well it hasn't been mentioned so it probably isn't worse than we expect it to be.
Also interested to know. Of course since this will be the first few days people have it, they'll be using it a ton so it may not be the best estimate on battery life but I would love to know an idea of how much to expect.
They haven't had time to calabrate yet.

7 hours of heavy use isn't bad. So idling with 4G off probably isn't terrible then. That is what I am most concerned about. Hopefully we will get kernel source and just get some undervolt going.

yeah not to mention that after you root you can flash leaner kernels and ROM's. But we'll have to wait for development to pick up, I really hope we see some good developers here.
So right now it's 1am and I took the phone off of the charger at 8:21 with 85% battery life. It is now at 47% with some steady texting, exchange activesync, some web browsing, and a 7 minute video all on 4g. I'm not sure what to make of that but it seems decent.

DAMMIT I WANT!!! 3 more days...
I don't know that I've charged it fully since I got it. It was close to fully charged before I went to a wedding tonight. Lasted all 6 hours or so I was there, but was tuckering out (~20%) by the time I left. But I did spend a bit of time playing with the phone. And 4G was on the whole time. And I turned live wallpaper on, played with my weather and clock widgets, tried to get a wifi connection that wouldn't work, browsed the web a bit.
I recharged on the way home to about 50%, and sitting around playing with it for the last hour to 1.5 hours, it's still at 40%.
If it makes you feel any better, the biggest battery hog was the display, BY FAR. Like 80-something percent to the <20% combined for the other functions. I'll try and remember to post my impressions from my first "normal" day of use tomorrow and let you know how the battery fairs.

If it makes you feel any better, the biggest battery hog was the display, BY FAR. Like 80-something percent to the <20% combined for the other functions. I'll try and remember to post my impressions from my first "normal" day of use tomorrow and let you know how the battery fairs.

I got mine yesterday and I can say it is about 25-30% better than a rooted thunderbolt....My logic says once rooted we will get really good battery life.
I am a heavy user and I can say I turned off fast boot and bump charged it 3 times on Thursday night. I gave it a heavy use all day on Friday.
Took it off the charger at 10 am around 8 pm I was on 35%. So that was 10 hours of heavy use and still had 35% left. If I was using the rooted bolt I would have been dead around 5:30 and a stock bolt...even sooner.
hope all these battery estimates are true, sounds like this will be my next phone!
Took it off the charger at about 11am today... Was close to 100%, maybe 95%. Just hooked it up to charge about 10 minutes ago (so off charger completely for ~10 hours). It had ~10% battery life left when I hooked it up.
Had Wifi and/or 4G on the entire day, including an hour and a half in a bad service area, where it fought for a bit to find service until I logged into the wifi network. Played about 1 hour worth of Pandora on high quality setting. A couple minutes of 4G Youtube. Tons of tinkering with games and downloading apps and playing around. Screen brightness was set to something like 30%. live wallpaper enabled. Weather and clock widget enabled. Data tracking widget enabled. Did a few seconds of video Skype too. I would say it was consistent use all day, but not necessarily heavy for most of the day.
EDIT: I forgot. One short phone call. I'm sort of a bad guinea pig for battery life on a phone because I really don't make a lot of phone calls. Consider my use representative of someone who uses data during his commute and for texting/games/forum/app usage.

I have very similar usage habits. Glad to hear that this seems to have relatively good battery life.

Bad/No service areas will kill a battery so fast. My office is in a windowless reinforced concrete room inside a reinforced windowless room inside a reinforced building. (Yo dawg)
I get no service at all. If I leave the 3g on, phone won't make it past 5 hours. Turn the 3G/WiFi off and battery percent goes down a few points.
I need one!!!
Kellex over a Droid-Life has gotten just over 10 hours of normal usage (all in 4G) for the past couple of days. He also stated he is not a heavy user by any means.

Seems like it isn't as bad as most thought it would be.
Battery - Caution
I remain interested in the phone but undecided due to some really bad hardware failures I have on my Dinc.
While I am very interested in battery life like everyone else, please everyone keep in mind that "how is the battery" is as personal a question as "which radio is the best one to use."
There is no way one person can truly tell you how the battery will be for you. If you sit in an interior office without wifi, and have sync contacts and facebook set for every hour, that ALONE will cause a drain that may not be comparable.

Yay, you got another post!
That aside ... just please everyone keep that in mind when making battery life decisions based on what others experience; battery life can be GREATLY impacted by things well outside what programs you might run and how many texts you might send.

Battery Stats HOX+ (AT&T)

We should generate our own thread with battery stats for the AT&T version of The HTC One X+ because we have the LTE version. I expect that our batteries will drain faster. I will post my stats as soon as I am through my 3rd charging cycle. +/- power saver will be interesting as well as overnight in sleep mode. I normally don't optimize a lot to keep my battery drain low. My GNex made it without a problem through a day and night.
I'm on my second cycle and the battery has been exceptional! 1.5 days on a single charge so far.

Really? I barely make it through 13-14 hours. Do you use the battery saver function? I will post some screen shots later.
I can't give you any good battery data yet, as I just got home from the store with it and I've been busy setting everything up the way I want it and installing apps. I was, however, very surprised after installing CPU Spy to see how low the processor will slow down...

6 hours with slight/medium use and I am down to 50%: No battery optimizations. Screen is on auto-brightness. I will use better battery stats to get a better idea what drains the battery. I burn 10% of battery/hour with light/medium use that's too much.

Interesting. If I look at better battery stats CPU states the lowest my phone is going to is 475 even though it could go low as 50. Have to run the stats for an entire battery charge to get some useful information.

This was hours after getting home with my new phone, just after installing tons of apps. So CPUspy didn't have much data to work with. Now that I unlocked my bootloader, I'm going to have to start all over again!

So I tested again today and my battery performance is still bad I would say. Do you guys get similar result otherwise I will try to exchange my device. I didn't do anything special. I played 5 minutes riptide. Took some photos without flash and posted some stuff on facebook and XDA. Screen on time is low 1.5 hours. and I have only 28% left. Do you get similar result or much better battery performance?

How do you get that first screen shot that shows all the data? I can't figure it out in the Better Battery app. Do I need to be rooted for that one?

If I open better battery stats the overview is on the first screen I see. You only see it when the phone is not charging. You have to wait a while until it populates with data. No root necessary. Try to switch the view from since unplugged to since charged and back. That might help.
Interesting. I got my replacement device yesterday and I ran better battery stats: My battery drains now only 5%/hour instead of 10% and the CPU clocks down to 50Mhz while not in use. My first HOX+ never went below 500Mhz. Looks like not the battery was kaputt but the CPU had some issues I would say.
It's seems as if I'm now getting a average of 20 hours so. Constantly on wifi, a couple calls, some email and light gaming. I have to say coming from the vivid I'm highly dissapointed. I was expecting not to constantly feel like I'm tethered to wall but that doesn't seem to have changed.

20 hours on battery power makes you constantly feel tethered to the wall? I think your expectations are a bit unrealistic. You're on a quad-core device with a huge high-def screen. 20 hours seems very reasonable to me. Charging once a day is pretty standard for most modern portable devices. I think 16 hours is about the target I look for, that way it can be plugged in when I sleep and run unplugged the rest of the day.

So far I love my new phone

okay well today I decided I wanted an upgrade, Im not eligible until Feb 1st (or a few days after) so I called tech support and was crying about how my upgrade is 2 weeks away and how i really want a new phone. so long story short, they directed me to my local verizon store after changing the date to today; an hour later home with the DNA.
and I am impressed.
I have the galaxy note 10.1 as my main tablet, and the Droid Dna is much snappier than that, and their specs are pretty much the same.
so as much as I "hate" htc, i bough the dna because i thought it looks cool, and im glad I did
and I dont hate HTC, im just one of those frustrated T-bolt users lol, and now my grandpa is rocking the t-bolt and loves it...if only he knew what android 4.0 was......
Nova launcher prime. That is all

This phone is amazing! I just got mine as well.
time to start tinkering!
I love it
But the only issue I have is with wireless charging
It takes forever, and I have that nokia one, not sure of the official model number, but its the size of an apple mighty mouse and looks similar
So does anyone know why wireless charging takes so long?
And I do not have a case on it

After using the Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 4 for the past year+, the DNA just CREEPS when charging, both wired and wireless. It's really painful how long it takes to charge.

Really?
It only lasts about 7 for me:/
And this is day 2, so I jay take it back and exchange for another dna, as this could be a faulty battery, or sidegrade to a s3
Now heres what my usage is;
Im a college student, so my phone is off charger by 730 am (from the night before) and comes to school until about 3 or so.
In just those 8 hours, with wifi off, gps off, brightness set to auto, and only like 30 mins of screen on time; its at like 30-35
And 3 isnt a good time to die cause I have the rest of the day I need it, so is it me using it wrong or maybe bad battery?
Cause im debati on going to verizon tomorrow to replace it with a s3 or a new dna

That is horrible batteryife. Unless you have horrible coverage where you are or your school is made of lead you should be at like 70 percent, not 30

While not a huge factor, dont use auto brightness. Uses an unnecessary amount of battery. Just set it to where you want and leave it. But I agree that is terrible battery life. Im getting 15 hours average out of mine.

I've had my Droid DNA about 3 weeks and I'm in love with it myself. I must suggest everyone get a charging pad as well, it seems to make the battery last longer from it's charge!

why would that possibly prolong the battery life?
my signal at my school is maximum bars , and 4g.
and okay, ill be heading over to verizon in a few minutes to see what they wanna do
because the dna should get at least 12 hours of my "low-average" usage
and okay, ill try to get a new DNA and if I do ill put the brightness somewhere in the middle instead of auto brightness.
thanks all!
Try this app: Deep Sleep Battery Saver. It has worked wonders on my DNA's battery life. It turns off apps and the radios for the WiFi and Mobile Data when the device's screen goes dark. At set intervals, it'll wake up the radios and download email, etc. You can also whitelist apps that you do not want the app to shut off, like an alarm clock app or an SMS app. You will still receive your phone calls. As of this writing, I have 94% battery 5 hours after I disconnected the phone from the charger. I have made a few calls and texts. I haven't used data since I am at work and am in front of a computer the whole day.

I agree with what everyone else said - you probably had a defective unit. I use my DNA much more than you do, with Auto-sync on, Background data on, Mobile Network always on, Brightness at around 40%. In my daily commute, I total around an hour of time spent underground in a subway station with no signal. Given all this, with ~3-4 hours of screen-on time, my phone lasts me from 7:45 in the morning all the way through until ~12 midnight with usually at least 20% battery life left. I don't know if it means anything, but I charged my phone fully before turning it on for the first time (I didn't even let the Verizon store rep turn it on to activate it for me - I told him to not even open the box). If you're interested, this is what I did:
1. Made sure the phone was not turned on at any point before I took it out of the box.
2. Took the phone out of the box without turning it on and plugged it in.
3. Waited for the light to turn green, then unplugged it and let it sit for a few minutes.
4. Re-plugged the phone (the light would be orange again), and waited for it to turn green.
5. Repeated the unplugging and replugging process until the light turned green almost immediately upon plugging in.
6. Turned the phone on and did the activation and all that fun stuff.
7. Used the phone normally, and did not charge it until the battery was fully depleted (turned off by itself because battery was too low).
8. Fully charged the phone until it was full again (without turning it on).
9. Repeated the unplugging and replugging process again until the light turned green almost immediately upon plugging in.
10. Turned it on and started using it normally from that point on.
I'm a bit OCD with my phone battery But hey, it seems to have worked out well for me so I'm happy!
Juicedefender is the best free battery saver I have tried.. Just having it on the balanced pre-set made a difference.. After suffering through the Tbolt, Droid razr, and Gnex, I'm pretty happy with the battery

Well I unfortunately went to the dark side, no not the company with a piece of fruit for a logo...samsung
And I wanted the dna but the lady told me that the battery life is normal for that phone cause of the big screen with 1080p and a quad core processor. I tried to disagree a little, but then she told me she has had the s3 since its launch and she hasnt had an issue yet. So I played with her phone, cause demo units are almost always bogged down. And I liked it.
So as of now, im off the htc bandwagon....but hopefully ill be back in about 8 months when my next line is available for upgrade
