[Q] Root New Bell (Canada) Samsung Galaxy S II HD LTE (SGH-I757M) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I'm trying to find if there is as of yet any way to root this device. I did find one thread but involved flashing a Russian (I think) rom. Before I had the HTC Legend, so I'm not used to Samsung phones. I've been searching since I got it yesterday. I'm wondering if anyone found a safe / confirmed way to do this yet. If I need to wait, I need to wait. I just wanted to pose the questions. I did fine a few roms and info on the Korean version of the phone, but was also unsure if it was safe to flash on this device.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this.
Ryan

In the same boat as you!! I don't want to flash any other roms as it can lead to other issues. As of now I hate not having root, but if it means I have to wait for a flashable. Zip, or a super one click. I can wait

I have just rooted my device using the Russian rom, it went smoothly and I'm now rooted, If you go ahead with it its very simple, took about 5 mins

Russia root works
I used the same rooted and it worked smoothly for me i would recommend that you use it

I'm so willing to bet that there is one of the already exisiting Samsung phones that has the exact same physical characteristics and all the ROMs are compatible. I'm so sure. I'm hoping. I'm praying. You know, CM9 and all that. =(

once rooted. anybody tried putting cyanogenmod for Galaxy S II on the I757M?

Do want ICS!!

No offense for anyone but these generic ROMs tend to run with the least amount of efficiency with Bell's Radio and Kernel. I tried at least 10 of the CM9's out there. The battery life was useless. It was more of a gimmick than anything else.
Which section of the forum is being used for this phone?
Where is this Russian Rom that everyone is talking about? Please provide links to location on the forum!
I am currently loathing Gingerbread but honestly. I will wait for the official Ice Cream Sandwich roll out.

It's being covered:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1649065
What were the different results of CM9? Were you building from source, or did you just download a random one and flash them in? I'm trying to port Stock ICS, and going for a much needed beer after I type this just to come sit back down and keep trying - I'm determined to have an alpha up in the next 24 hours of a CWM-flashable ICS.
I'm tearing apart every kernel I can find to make this *@#[email protected](ing phone boot from ICS.

Considering flashing rom. Several noob questions(first time with roms

Hey im new to the forum and love the work you guys do here. I rooted my Photon so far have wifi tether and all the goodies like that up and running, however im interested in flashing a rom now.. BUT with Ice Cream Sandwhich (hopefully) coming soon to the Photon im a bit unsure.. Can i somehow restore my phone back to stock and do an ota or however they send (if they do) the ICS update for the photon? Assuming i do end up flashing a rom, and if i can restore it, how difficult would it be..? Also what would you guys advise for battery life, the Homebase or Alien rom? Its the biggest thing im looking for from flashing a rom really. I just dont want to go through and flash a rom on my phone then a few weeks later see ICS get sent out and i somehow cant update until a dev creates a rom of it. Thanks and sorry for nooby questions but ive been digging here for a while trying to find the answer to these. Thanks!!
You can restore to stock with an SBF flash/RSD Lite - easy enough.
The roms, you should try both and see which best suits your need and use.
Don't accept an OTA - it may ruin out root exploit.
I'm on home base ROM.v1.5 with update 4.2. Not much difference in battery life between the two ROM's and not much improvement that I have seen from stock.

+1 to this!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216143 - you'll need to go here if you haven't unlocked the bootloader and flashed a custom recovery. It'll also answer your question about returning back to stock.
On a side note, has anyone tried the Star Wars ROM, i think people have forgotten about that one.
I never did try that one. Does it have any support still?

Looked at the thread. Looks like it hasn't gotten a lot of love in a while. It seems to be decent though.
I may have to look through the forum again.

Agreed... Make sure you follow the steps carefully because this phone is much easier to soft brick than others. I have done it a couple times.
Also, I agree with the other posters, unless you really just wanna try it it's not all that worth it yet. No real big gains in performance or battery life yet

[Q] I have few questions about rooting, ROMs, and ICS

Hello All!
I have posted a thread a while ago about my htc amaze having so many issues after rooting and installing ROMs.
Luckly, I was able to return my phone and get it exchanged as I only had it for 1 week... so I got saved!
Now, with my new one, I still want it to be able to read Arabic correctly!
Rooting the device isn't the issue, I think I did it the first time with no problems (except for installing the ROM)
It seems like because I'm with "Wind Mobile" I can't flash the device, and I can't even get ICS when it becomes available.... I guess Wind customers are out of luck! (at least that's what I have been reading online)
I'm very new to Android world, and I like the phone the way it is except for supporting languages.
So I don't care if it's rooted or not, and all of these cool stuff. I just want Arabic!
My questions are:
1- Can I root my device, and add a patch without adding custom ROMs as I don't want to reck my phone again
So I want to keep the current ROM. "stock". and still add the patch. is this doable?
2- Regarding ICS. When the update comes out, will it be to specific cell phone carriers? I mean if you are with T-mobile -for example- you're good, and if not too bad?
does it depend on which company you are with, or just which phone you have?
I think that's it for today, lol... I'll wait for your answers
Thanks in advance!
well, the easiest way to get root is to flash a custom rom,
if you have the device rooted with stock, you could just flash the patch
if there is an ICS rom, you should be able to flash it

Thank you EclipzeRemix for replying!
Actually that is very promising, you gave me hope, and your reply is very encouraging!!!
So basically when the ROM (the offical one) comes out then I can flash it regardless of which company I'm with right?
just making sure I got it right lol

oh awesome !!! that's really great to hear.. I really hope so... I don't care I can wait forever as long as there is a will to release the update to Wind customers!
and hopefully Android didn't forget to add the missing languages to the update!
Looks like question was answered.

Yes the forum would be great!
Gained root.
Thought I would let others know that Bin4ry script from Sony Experia thread works for a hassle free root on Telstra Urbane Zte T22.
Now just need find a recovery.
I agree!
I got his phone a while and successfully rooted it and flashed recovery CWM.
The stock is so laggy and slow. Would love a replacement.
Install CWM for the phone (which I have) by personal messaging me and I will send you the URL, silly XDA rules. -.-
also there is heaps of custom roms there that work for the t22. Trial and error, I have cm10 and a few others already on my phone. )
Sounds great. Are you able to let us know which phones roms work with T22?
Sent from my brick.
I have tried a few for the Blade 3, there is quite a variety, some work some don't, but since they are nearly the exact same phone, the t22 will work with nearly any rom for the blade 3.

Found a way to unlock it for free. Tryed to follow these instructions using google translator 4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=376369 its kind of a downgrade back to 2.2.3 and it worked, now I just have to get back to ics
Name of a custom rom?
Any have a rom that WILL work with the t22?
Thanks for your time, much appriciated!
Plenty of Roms on Modaco, I think it is, just search up Blade3 Cyanogenmod and it should come up with one by Konstang.

Stock Rom?
Hi there,
2 things: yes, you can install many Blade3 ROMs in the T22, and the most popular that is confirmed to work is an unofficial port of CyanogenMod (you can install 10.2, but it still needs official development from Qualcomm before FM Radio and Bluetooth work, so I suggest 10.1), compiled by developer KonstaT.
As I have the New Zealand version of this device, I can confirm it works well, and will certainly do so here. However:
I advise against doing it if you don't know how to backup and restore a nandroid, purely because there are NO STOCK ROMS available from either ZTE or Telstra websites, and without that backup, you'll have no choice but to void any warranty you may have had if you neglected to do so! Even I find that idea annoying, and yet I don't have that problem!
Just a friendly warning from a cousin across the ditch.
Thanks I'll check it out.

New user... Couple of questions.. Thanks!

Hey guys,
I just got this device and I'm loving it so far... I'm a T-Mobile customer, so I'm looking to flash a tmobile radio and Rom. The thing is I bought this from someone who used a toolkit to root it and unlock the bootloader. It's also running insert coin Rom and twrp.. I know nothing else is done besides that. This is my first non Samsung device, and Im used to the simplicity of Odin , I really dont want to screw anything up... Anyone have some advice? Thanks in advance...

I am probably not certified to answer this question. But my suggestion is-
You are searching here ( your best bet) so maybe search youtube for how to video's on "un"rooting and going back to stock. They normally have links to downloads that you need.
what is wrong with just leaving it unlocked and rooted, just flashing a different rom?

This will get you back to near stock T-mo >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2281943
your best off to stay away from a radio update unless your having a problem.
Leave the recovery as is for now till you learn more about your phone
make a backup from TWRP and store it in a safe place (other than on the phone) before you go flashing roms (just a good practice anytime)
all the popular roms in the international section will work on your phone, Android Revolution HD, TrickDroid, insertcoin ...etc, just take your time and read a lot
Thanks for the suggestions guys... So even though I'm s-on, I can still flash a different Rom?

[Q] Telus i717D

Ok got a question?
First off I am by no means new to the android dev community as I have developed a rom for the sgs-II for At&t before my when in the toilet, anyways I am now on a Telus Samsung galaxy note I717D running:
Android 4.1.2
Baseband Vers. i717dTLMD1
Kernel Vers. 3.0.31-1112295
Build number: JZO54K.I717DTLMD1
TWRP RECOVERY
The phone is not rooted as far as it tells me however I am able to flash any rom I want through twrp recovery. anyways I am using tmobile sim
the question is this has any one flashed a tmobile or at&t modem/radio onto a Telus phone with any luck? if not any recommendations on getting better signal cause mine is **** at this point when I switched my sII to tmobile my signal was pretty decent not the best but still good.
Ok so after a couple of days and np responses i guess i am off to expirment city and will try what i ever o get my hands on and will report back to let others know

Hi, I was wondering if you have found anything with this? I also have the Telus Note i717D on the 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and am having a hard time finding a working root.

Hi there,
From my understanding of your comment you're trying to root your phone correct? If so, I can suggest you check http://www.kingoapp.com. The reason why I suggest it is because it's pretty easy to do; it is how I rooted my i717. Check it out and if you'd like try it.. it's kind of like a one click root way to go about rooting your phone, if you'd like to try obviously.
Cheers,
