Request for iOS-like gestures - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

After using the latest iPad, I must say I'm falling in love with the gestures. I still do think the Prime owns the iPad in a variety of aspects. Are there any developers in the midst of porting or creating something similar for us Android guys?

Or you could type "Ipad 3 gestures" in Youtube and see what he is talking about.

I was thinking the same, seeing my brothers ipad the gestures are so useful for speedy use of a tablet. Has anyone comapred the speed/responsiveness of this GMD Gesture Control to that of an ipad? I'd definitely be tempted to buy it if its as good as the ipads.
As much as I dont like Apple is some ways, in others they really have got some great stuff that we are missing on Android

It is better. The amount of stuff you can do is simply amazing.
You can setup every single pattern you can think of to anything from 1 finger to 5 fingers. And the reaction time is instant. No lag.
The best thing is, it uses absolute 0 extra energy, the tablet has no issues going into deep sleep mode and it just work.
Right now I have something like:
4 Fingers Pinch -> Home
4 Fingers Expand -> Screenoff
3 Fingers Expand -> Recent opened apps
3 Fingers Pitch -> OverSkreen
2 Fingers From left border to right -> Back
3 Fingers Upper border to down -> Hide the Status bar (bar with clock buttons and ICS stuff).
Works wonders, you can also set it up to something like right, up, left pattern, square, triangle, you name it, to do anything you want

Sounds promising! I watched the video from the Google Play store and there does look to be some lag when pinch closing for example, maybe its an old video.
I'll have to try out the lite version and see whether it lives up to my demands! Only problem now is I cant root .21

[New Lanucher] TSF Shell

I was on the Market and I came across this new launcher. The video is unreal. The price is crazy @$17, especially with a number of the functions in the video not working at the moment. I just wanted to see if anyone was willing to give this a try, and if they were able to get it to work on the Atrix. I sent the dev an e-mail to ask if it is compatible. I have read that there are numerous amounts of FCs associated with this launcher.
At any rate, take a look at this video.
Here is a link to the Android Market --> TSF Shell in the Android Market
I honestly think it looks hideous. Nothing special just a different way of switching screens and a couple of widgets.

Who the hell is going to pay $17 for a launcher?
The launcher loads ok but gives fcs along the way, motion is VERY smooth! Music and memo widgets market says are not compatible. It has great potential but indeed the price will hold most ppl back from buying it.
this looks like it might be from the guys who made bumptop for the windows desktop

I had a hard time giving $15 for shell, but i did, I'm not giving that much for a launcher ever again! Just not worth it compared to the excellent cheaper launchers and the free launchers that are out there.

To expensive to buy, IMO..I don't know why the sell that too expensive, an people may think: "well is their app, they may ask whatever they want" but for example SPB Shell, $15 and a 100,000 downloads, if they drop their price to $5 they may need to sell 3 times to reach their goal, but for a luncher like that they may do it quickly because lots of users wants to give a try.
$17 dollars? No way.

This launcher is absolutely freaking amazing!
It is the first launcher ever for Android, and I am not exaggerating, that has iPhone kind of smoothness.
The irony is that this launcher has all those fancy 3D transitions and animations and it's still absolutely perfectly silky smooth throughout.
While simple basic launchers like ADW or LP still get laggy around the edges at times.
This just goes to show that we don't need epic new quad core hardware for our phones, we need devs that know how to optimize for the hardware we already have.
Tegra 2 is more than enough to run anything currently on Android without issues.
Kudos to the devs for the professionalism and their hard work. This really is an amazing smoothest-ever launcher.

[APP] Apex Launcher

Just wanted to share this with everyone. Nice alternative to Nova Launcher, there's the option to hide apps w/o paying for the app (for now). There are a few hiccups here and there, but generally I must say it is considerably smoother than Nova overall. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452663
Is the link to the thread, I take no credit for this app, just sharing. Enjoy!

I had seen this one before but for some reason never downloaded it. Don't know what was holding me back. Hmm. Oh well. Thanks for the recommendation. Gonna play around with it for a while and see if it can take down Nova as my launcher of choice.
The appdrawer is considerably smoother than nova, as well as the home screen. There are some nice featues on this launcher for sure, and the hide apps. I already bought nova before I saw the update, but oh well $4 is just $4 . There is some lag in the widgets section with some transitions, but I'm sure the dev will fix it eventually.

I was just about to edit my post and say that the scrolling is noticeably smoother. I'm diggin this one. Plus the Apex Menu is a nice touch since I have Swipe Down to show that menu. I can then change my wallpaper or add a widget from there. Don't know why, but long pressing to add a widget annoys me lol and I never really use the in-drawer widget selector as much as I thought I would. I paid for Nova, too, but don't really mind since I did it more to help the dev out.
Again, thanks for the rec! This is nice
EDIT: Oh, and the infinite scroll in the app drawer...biiiiig bonus for me.
I really am digging the double tap to bring up the menu. But I can confirm it's just the software, friends Gnex also has the same lag that I do.
This launcher is really nice. I think it might take down Nova after all. It has what I need on the phone. Gonna keep an eye on that thread and might start using it on my Prime soon, too.

Yeah I already took down Nova and uninstalled. Hopefully it'll be smoother in the future, but the homescreens and the app drawer with no lag, with all the features Apex = win. I'm pretty stoked for the new Prime that's coming out, thinking about picking it up.

EDIT: Also, if GPS isn't a concern for you, I would purchase a Prime now. The next one will just have the GPS fix and a better resolution screen, but it would be hard to tell the upgrade in screen on a screen this small. I don't use GPS on my Prime, so this thing is perfect for me.

Yeah, my wifi was never an issue for me, but my GPS will only work if I'm standing still. I just don't use it anyway, so it's no concern to me and the $100 extra isn't enough to make me want the slightly better screen. I think that one is supposed to be out late this year. Then again, that's what ASUS said about this Prime and it took almost 4 months for me to get mine. Hopefully they learned their lesson and you can actually get it when you order it.

Apex Launcher is sweet. I had to change my minimum scrolling time from zero to like 7 to get it scroll quickly though.
On a side note. Does anyone know if Anddoes will fix Fancy Widgets to fit our Rezound screens correctly? The flip clock doesn't size correctly on our devices.

Not too sure if they resized the widgets. But yeah If ind that if the timer is at 0 the desktop seems kinda laggy. I wonder the fps of both launchers on the home screen when it comes to scrolling through screens. ICS claims it has it up to 60.. but it seems like it's 30 fps, that or my eyes are just too picky . Hopefully the developer will address the issues w/ homescreen smoothness.

Looks like the Note's tablet mode isn't appreciated by everyone...

I was on Phonedog and came across this article:
http://www.phonedog.com/2012/04/29/can-we-put-an-end-to-this-tablet-phone-hybrid-rom-trend-already/
I personally love the new tablet mode and I thought the article was a bit harsh. Not that any of it matters as long as everyone enjoys their phone, just thought I'd share my findings.

I appreciate that article.
It means I won't ever take that person's advice, or expect their articles to reflect things relevant to my taste or interests. I respect the writer having an opionion that differs from mine, and I am sure there are people who agree with the author. They all have the right to be wrong, I guess.
Meh, to each their own.
The only part of the article I don't like is where he mentions this being a recent thing.
People have been doing Tablet UI Mod since ICS first came out. I had tablet mod on my Inspire 4g just by using an AOSP rom and then moving the appropriate services.jar and systemui from another phone (nexus if i recall) and changing the dpi.
It's not like people just figured out phones on ICS could do tablet mod, and I still think its a niche few who actually will end up Dailying it, but who cares if they do or do not. It's entirely usable, I've been using it on the Note since the first release and it's been perfectly fine, and when I don't want it, I can change it back or go to GB if I so desire.
Sounds like he should leave his phones stock.
I liked tablet mode. But there are too many bugs needed to be fixed.
So I flashed mine back to ginger bread

I am usually the first one to try new ROMs as they appear.
Although I don't agree with everything he says and the stance he is taking, I do agree with him on how the tablet mode, as is available now, is not so pragmatic for the Note.
One of the main reasons why I like using the Note is how easy it is to view things on a relatively large screen. When converted to the tablet mode for a while, I didn't really appreciate how small fonts are on most of the apps and how I found myself constantly zooming in to view the content, as I used to do with smaller display phones in the past. Also, the persistent notification bar with menu buttons didn't appeal to me either, as I would rather use full screen until I need to access the status bar as necessary. (I use gesture to toggle the status bar on Apex Launcher) I have used the Big Font to adjust system font size but that only affects the system apps, it appears, not in other 3rd-party apps.
I do use my phone mostly in the portrait mode and sometimes in landscape mode.
The tablet mode seems more useful in the landscape mode only.
I have asked others and tried to find out for myself the advantages of the tablet mode but didn't see many other than two-panes mode in Settings and Email app being useful at times.
So, my question to all who like the tablet mode is what do you like about the tablet mode over and above what NOTEWorthy or Seraphim or Alpha3 provide in phone mode? Please help me better understand this issue. Thanks.
I like it. While Tablet mode might not be everyone's cup of tea, people shouldn't try to get devs to stop creating amazing projects that people do like to use.
It's not like anyone is forcing this guy to use the Hybrid Rom. He could use any other type of ROM

I actually prefer tablet mode in portrait. My eyes aren't so bad that I can't see it, but it's not in my face and GINORMOUS icons everywhere. The only thing I can't stand is the four extra buttons. I have four buttons a couple centimeters lower, so I'm hoping those buttons could be eliminated to make room for more status bar icons.
I also like the status bar being at the bottom. It feels like there's so much more room on the screen.
My DD before this was Seraphim with SPB. Haven't looked back since (although I love the Collective's roms.)

I'm not a big fan of tablet mode, just because the dpi. Lowering the dpi that low ruins widgets, keyboards, web browsing, watching videos(bar stays active reducing video size) and other features. It's mostly a dpi issue and not the tablet mode itself. If it were 320dpi and the bar would disappear while playing vids, it would fix everything for me.
Why do people always make a big deal if someone likes something or not? I haven't tried tablet mode so I can't say if it's good or not but if that person doesn't like it he has the right not too. If you like it then why do you care if someone else doesn't? Just enjoy your device and let people think whatever they like.

I would tend to agree with that but I don't think this applies to people that install different ROMs on their phone. I would think that people generally try things before making up their mind. This article isn't directed at the general public since they generally stick with whatever comes on their phone. When I want to try something new I usually look for articles or reviews of people what have negative things to say about something and then try it out myself. The whole idea behind different ROMs is that there is something out there for everyone and even when somebody likes it or hates it you could have a completely different opinion. If someone reads an article and makes up their mind before trying it then they're doing it wrong.
Tablet mode is freaking awesome on the galaxy nexus.

It wasn't a selling point for me. I didn't think I would use it very much at all, and I don't.
I use it rarely.
I use it all of the time. I got mine with the original VZW release and spent the next week at a professional meeting and used it all day instead of carrying a notebook. I use it now whenever I need to enter text; much easier to me than using the keyboard. I also have the s-pen with eraser, and while it is bordering on junk, I found it is much more intuitive to just pull than out of my pocket to write a note.
I use mine quite a bit. I like using it for entering text, as well as for navigating and editing photos. The apps Button Savior and GMD Spen Control make it much more useful.
I use mine a fair bit. I have a three year old who likes to color on my phone. I'm just getting over a torn tendon in my primary hand so using the s pen was easier than typing and now I've just gotten used to it. And I have actually used the note taking feature for work and home.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
I use mine quite a bit as well. I bought mine to see if I could replace the note 10.1, which it essentially has. The main use is text entry during meetings. I also enjoy marking up pdf blueprints, as the pen makes things a lot more natural and accurate, which in the field, is essential.
Sent from my SCH-I605
I use it almost daily. It's great for web surfing so you're not constantly zooming in just to make an accurate tap. Also use it for Draw Something and for editing photos.

Polar opposite: The S Pen was not a factor at all in my decision to buy this phone. But now that I have it, I'm using the S Pen more and more. I make quick notes with it, use it on the keyboard for long emails, documents, etc. and a few other apps. It's getting to be more and more important to me.
So for me, it's gone from being a gimmick to a useful tool.
I use mine a lot but I drive cab so it's not to be able to always have something to write with on the go.

I use mine quite a bit as well. With GMD spen control app I find it extremely useful with my long list of gestures to do things.. I can pretty much do anything from anywhere at anytime.

I use it all the time.
I use it to take notes in meetings. It makes my note-taking closer to professional, not like using finger to type on ipad , god knows if you are playing games or typing notes.
Pen is suitable in professional meeting room.
And the pop-up note shortcut is just awesome. when i am in a call or something, can just take down phone number or other notes.
also use Notes to draw a close circle to take a partial screenshot and share it. =)
I use my s-pen most of the time I installed flow beta just so I could type with it better.

I use my s-pen all the time. I would say that I use it more at home then in public. As a Note owner I would invest in a app called "GMD Spen Control". A little on the expensive side at $5 but it gives you more control without relying on hard controls.
Even if you took the s-pen away I would still rank the Note 2 above the HTC DNA seeing that it was the phone I was craving for mid summer. But the best thing about the Note 2 is that you don't have to use the s-pen if that's not your style. But for me the s-pen is more precise when it comes to web browsing.

LOL!!! I just mentioned GMD spen in my post without reading this one. It cannot be stressed enough that this app is a must buy if you use the s-pen. I assigned the menu, home, recent and back actions to the top of my status bar and a tap carries out the action. Or you can just perform a shortcut move to bring up buttons/apps. Must buy app.

Too many bugs for me. Crashed and left the spen path on the screen after a gesture.

reality check time video lockscreen assumed new feature

I have no clue where media and other forums ASSume that this feature is the same as the s9s video lock screen feature. This more is like doing a pixel, i gotta have it features, and making us feel stupid. They assumed it suppose to come with the new june security patch. This feature has always been on the note 8. Someone give light to this. https://www.gsmarena.com/video_lock_screen_from_samsung_galaxy_s9_now_available_on_galaxy_s8_and_note8-news-31983.php

anyone input. the only thing worse than a bad assumption, is a bad decision. What i am asking is logical and sound. There are other threads if this one doesn't fit one's fancy.
Seriously, why even respond? If you don't like what we say you ll just be condescending as your other posts. Also, expecting a response in two hours is ridiculous!
Knock it off already - nobody cares!

Yup, lots of complaining in general around here lately. Never saw much of a point to that.

Why not email gsmarena or the author of the article if you believe it is incorrect? What can XDA users offer if we didn't write it? Come on.

nope just clarifying video lockscreen has been around, and sooner or later, there will be an agreement.
I can at least confirm that the video backgrounds in the Galaxy Apps store only appeared after the June update. Never saw them before that on my Note 8.
Looking further, it appears there are three different types of "moving pictures" wallpaper:
- Animated (Still image with some moving objects)
- Motion (Appearance changes when you tilt the phone left & right)
- Video (Plays up to 15 seconds of video on the lock screen).
We've had the Animated and Motion wallpapers since launch (or at least well before now), but the 15 second video wallpapers IS new, and that's the feature that was first seen on the S9.
So, before you "ASSume" the writers of the article didn't know what they were talking about with this feature being new to the Note 8, maybe you might want to try being more polite in your choice of words when you're confused about something; lest it leave you with egg on your face. I ask that everyone please remain respectful. Where needed I have PM'd and discussed posts. Please stay on topic and only post if you have something to contribute.
Lastly, please don't engage eachother... it just makes things worse for everyone. Please use the report button instead.
Thanks

Note 8 has never had video lockscreen. All motion lockscreen before were multiple pictures in rotation.
How can i activate this feature ?

Once you have the June update you're good to go. Either search for video wallpapers in the Samsung Theme store, or find a video in your gallery, tap the 3-dot menu, then select "Set As Wallpaper" I believe.
