What do you have in store for your Chameleon home screens? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hey Guys
I just wanted to hear your thoughts on what you hope to put onto your home screens when Chameleon does get released in August?
I've donated to the good cause and here is hoping it's going to look as good as some of those prototype video's I've seen, wow!
what do you think would be the most useful to put on each screen?
I personally would like to dedicate a screen to a terminal ssh widget (like airterm or better terminal emulator), ezpdf/picture viewer widget for diagrams, world clock, calculator, and perhaps email on one screen.
For the fun stuff on other screens: Browser, stickit, Pulse, tapatalk/xda, netflix, wikipedia, playerpro, whatsapp, Fb, G+. Solid explorer, youtube and alot more!
Im looking forward to this new development into the android tablet UI, there will be alot of interesting developement into intergrating/optimising current and new widgets for Chameleon. Ultimately it saves the hassle of constantly switching or opening new applications all the time, it will be there right at your finger tips and I have a good feeling that it should be on overal great experience.

I'm just hoping I didn't waste $10 and that it is actually released.

I'm pretty sure it will make it, $35000/50000 and 19 days to go. To think they got that much in about 11 days + they would probably extend it if it gets close to 50k

it will be released even if the budget is not met.
if the budget is met it just means it gets released earlier.

I backed the kickstarter for the Chameleon but I am not even sure if I will end up using it. It certainly seems interesting and the demo looked nice but my needs don't change with the time of day, at least not as far as my tablet is concerned.
Doesn't matter though, I enjoy supporting innovative ideas and it only cost $10. I spend less than that in lunch every day

Once it comes out, I'm gonna ask /g/ to set it up, they always have great theme ideas.

Looking for Fellow Developers for Xoom Tablet Notetaking App (FlatNote)

I'm looking for some experienced Android developers to assist me with a tablet note-taking app. I'm open-sourcing it under the Apache license, but probably will monetize it on the market.
The general idea is to be able to capture a lecture or meeting's audio, and put in text, graphic, and handwritten annotations. Then, when you are replaying the meeting or lecture, you visibly see a waveform of the audio with notes, images, etc. below, describing what is going on and providing more detail.
Notes will be grouped into sections. The app will be designed for API level 11 or higher.
Let me know if you're interested.
Fantastic! This is JUST the kind of app I'll be looking to use. Let me know and I'll gladly beta test for you and be a first day buyer. Good luck!
If you build just the handwriting portion and create a penultimate-like android version, I will buy
I've been working on a notes application since my partner got his xoom last weekend, better beat me to it

+1 to buying it!
Sounds like a good idea for meetings too. Could you insert bookmarks for notes for the audio? So if you're browsing the notes you can jump to that section of audio?

I had to stop as I don't have a xoom yet, I was working on it all last weekend. It will definitely start out as only a text based quick notes interface, then expand from there.

This would be a must have for any college xoom owner, +1 for buying the app
I'm having trouble seeing how this would be useful without an active digitizer and pen..
don't get me wrong, this could still be a very cool app and I hope you get it working
but I don't think I'll be straying from my windows tablet with onenote any time soon
if you got this working on the htc flyer on the other hand, we might have something I could use as my only note taking device for university.
I probably wouldn't buy the flyer anyway though. The xoom is just so much nicer
Edit: Before someone starts saying how I could just get a capacitive pen, you have no idea what you're missing until you've tried a wacom or n-trig pen(especially wacom). It's like night and day.

My roommate has a wacom... I know i can't compete with quality of handwriting on most hardware, but I can make the software easier to use. The easier the software, the better the notes will tend to be, plus I really want the audio to provide a lot of power, with the handwritten, typed, and other inserted notes only supplementing the audio and making it searchable/disoverable.
well.. I look forward to seeing what you come up with =]

i have a capacitive stylus for my ipad and it works beautifully for taking handwritten notes. Penultimate & note taker HD are the best ones imo
I'll buy the first app that rivals Penultimate.
I just looked up penultimate on youtube
it's definitely not bad
but it still doesn't rival onenote
not by a long shot
and I was surprised at well capacitive pens were working for people
but again, it still doesn't really come close to an active digitizer
now, I'm sure this app will still be great
and I could definitely see people using it to quickly describe something to someone or maybe for a few quick notes at a meeting
but there's no way it's going to be able to be used for taking notes at university
I'll stick with my fujitsu tablet
but like I said, I do look forward to seeing what this app will be able to do
it will definitely have it's uses
I've been thinking about making a note taking app myself it would be good to collaborate!

[APP] Permissions Denied - Block Permissions

Saw this app on my twitter timeline (@CallipH). Seems very interesting. I for one am very cautious about the permissions a new app, or even an update requests. I can see this being useful, but I can also see it causing a lot of bugs since the apps may geniunely need the permissions requested.
Looks like it has some other goodies included in the app as well.
Here you go if you want to learn more:

ALSO, an unrelated app... this one lets you take pics of plants to identify them. Currently only on iPhone... hit them up on their site or twitter. I want this. LEAFSNAP

I've generally been on the XDA App lately, so signatures pass me by. Can you actually get Fat Tire in NC now? When I lived there (up until '95), we didn't have good beer. And if so, you need to be on the lookout for a better brew from Breck, 1554. Its a brussel's black ale, but has no bitterness to it at all.

Good news! Now I know if I visit back to nc, I have a chance of finding some good brew. My last trip out there, I carted a case of each with me across the country, lol.
I do stand corrected, getting my microbreweries mixed up here. In between New Belgium, Breckenridge Brewery, and Bristol Brewery (which is right around the corner from my house), its a wonder anyone out here in the great rockies gets a damn thing done, lol.

Permissions denied is excellent. Haven't had an issue yet, but I'm also very careful what permissions I freeze. An app that's function its to go on the internet makes no sense to block its internet permission but I will block it from reading contacts if I don't plan to use that feature of the app. No apps have balked yet. Thanks for this!

How can I survive a transformation to iPhone?

Hi all!
Been happy with my Android workphone for two and a half years now. But my ol' Desire is getting a bit tired and out of date. So I will get a new device soon.
But new corporate policy is that we only run iPhones as workphones. So my next will probably be an iPhone 5.
I know it´s a mighty fine handset I'll be getting but this ol' dog is a kind of a droidy dog. I´m clearly beeing thrown a bit outside my comfort zone here.
So I´ll gladly take any advice on how to handle the green abstinence, tips 'n tricks about managin' stuff in iOS and maybe the odd "hang in there".
Try to jailbreak it for one, sure it won't be exactly like android but it will be close enough and there are some pretty cool stuff you can do when you jailbreak your iphone. My friend was able to have an up and down scroll-able screen for his apps (kinda like the app drawer for gingerbread), as well as adding actual widgets.
Quit your job und change to a company which uses androids
Get the goophone i5 =P
Get a Goophone i5. But seriously why are they forcing the iPhone on you. I would try to convince them that it will slow your productivity since its slower to write emails/texts on because it doesn't have swype. I guess companies use iOS because its easier for new users and iOS never changes.

For the people who likes to custom and improves better features in the devices, Iphone is not a good idea, but sometimes we need to accept... And maybe by a Galaxy S3 and enjoy both :good:

Objectivly speaking now, i think iphone might be morw than suited for work related stuff.
It will run the required apps, it will run them smoothly, and generally bug free (less bugs than a full on modified rom for android most likely) . What would you really be using it for? Work email, work calls, work texts.
You can always have a personal android phone for leisure, tinkering and gratifying personalization. The iphone will do what it can, and do it good. The android will do what you want.
Ever had a sex change? yeah thats pretty much the contrast here
Leave the job. The company is doomed anyway.
Get an android anyway. A policy like that sounds like you work at the apple store.
Put a case on it, and once in a while ask it questions to act like you have siri.
You can pull the wool over a sheep's eyes.
They can't tell you have an android because it functions like iphones, maps, web, txt, and call.
Also, are you paying for it or they are?

My brother has one and i love it. cant beat that price for one of the most powerful tablets on the market now.
Pros:
Hardware
Google updates
$$$
Cons:
No expandable memory. He has the 8gb from launch and it cant hold that much. he blew through the 8gb fast and is now trying to play catch up when downloading new games.
If you plan on getting one. Please get the 32gb. I know people will argue saying its not needed if you're just going to browse or watch a couple of videos. But it happens to fill up quickly and you cant change your mind. lol

I bought my gf one for her birthday and she loves it. She hardly even uses her computer anymore. I love the fact that you can add multiple users. She has her own profile and when I feel like using it I click on my profile and instantly shows all my stuff on my own home screen.
Oh and the only thing she doesn't like about it is the camera quality on Skype is horrible. I've read that there are mods to improve the camera quality, but because this is her tablet I am not rooting it.

I absolutely love mine. I got the 16gb version and I use it every day. My laptop basically only gets used for burning CDs now. I'm running the stock rooted 4.2.1 and I think it's perfect. This is the first Android device where I didn't have a desire to install a different launcher or install some form of heavily modified or AOSP ROM. It's worth every penny in my opinion.

I have the 32gb version and I am very happy with it. I take mine out in the field with me and have it tethered it to my Rezound which is great for my daily use. If you are flasher then I would suggest taking a look at the Nexus 7 forums, some really nice Roms.
It is great for what it is, just don't have false expectations. Not to be combative but if she plans on doing the things you mentioned extra memory is not needed. I am a fairly heavy user and haven't even looked to see how much of my 16gb I have used.
Con: as a flasher I get kind of annoyed with all of the updates. bc so many updates the roms never really smooth out. Everytime I think it's set up great there is a new update. (first time with a nexus so maybe just annoyed with change).
I have an 8gb one with an OTG cable. I hook up my 16gb card to it. I also stream my music and movies from my server. Bought the OTG cable on Amazon for $.70.

Now I am accessory shopping, need a nice case and maybe a stylus. I messed around with the display model a bit, and, with an iPad mini. Mini is wider, thinner and a bit lighter. And the thinness and lighjtness is where the comparison stops for me. The screen on the Nexus absolutely blows the mini out of the water. I didn't get too in depth using them, but I didnt need to. The screen comparison blew me away. I couldn't get over it.

Don't have time to read through the entire thread to see what everyone is saying, BUT if you are considering getting one then you definitely should. I don't even know where to start, but its perfect in every way. Very brief breakdown.
Pros: the perfect size, battery life is great, ROM development is plentiful, the device itself is really fast(running aokp 4.2.1) , lots of options for cases, and much more.
Cons: None!
I originally got it for when I run on my treadmill in the basement to watch Netflix and downloaded TV shows. Now after having it for a month I bring the thing with me almost everywhere. Best $250 I've spent in a long time.

Does anyone have an idea of how many AW watches have been sold so far for Samsung and LG?
The AW app still only has 50-100k downloads in the Play store and I know plenty of people are waiting for future watches etc but, I'm really concerned they won't be a success as I'm really enjoying mine.

I enjoy my watch too. Unfortunately it seems like all the reviews that I have read about the watches are negative. The two biggest things that bug me are the complaints on battery life and how "useless it is." Why is it such a big deal to charge your watch every night when you charge your phone every night. When you sit in an office you probably have your phone on your desk and it is easy to check it. I am an electrician apprentice and i love being able to look at my watch for the information rather then pulling out my phone. When I am sitting in school I don't use it as much. I use it for navigation when I am driving to a new job site and don't know where it is. If something is on my mind then I can just tell it to remind me later. I have also seen a few videos of people controlling lights in their house. I am interested in learning how to do that or using it as my key to get into my house. Smart phones can already be used as a key so it is only a matter of time for the watch? I love it and i love the potential that it has.

I wouldn't mind a bit of automation myself. For now it's mainly walking navigation, music, and sending quick messages for me.
I hope more people buy into it before Google lose interest in supporting them. My thinking is that when Apple bring theirs out people will become more aware of smart watches and that's when AW interest might pick up. I've noticed the app development has been much better than when Pebble was released so that's a good sign.

A great app to control your house is IFTTT. For lights you can use it with Philips Hue or Belkin WeMo. For locks you can integrate it with SmartThings. Once its setup you can open the app on your watch and swipe through the different triggers.
