Update Adrena 220 ICS GPU (2D) driver - Huawei MediaPad, T-Mobile SpringBoard

As I cant post in the dev section I'll try here...
I was wondering if any modded ICS roms have the modded GPU driver of the Adreno 220?
It seems it made a difference (could be just a benchmarking side effect though) of a couple of phones using the Adreno 220 GPU...
Would be cool if someone could include it in some ROM or maybe make a optional addon for rooted ICS ones?
Here is the link to one of the theese modified ICS drivers.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631223

Speaking of drivers i also wonder whatever it's possible to unlock GLONASS support.

such driver would be welcomed
I ran Quadrant and got

How come your score is so high? How did you do that? I use the same ROM. and my score much below yours. Especially my CPU score is only 23xx.

Only use launcher that natively based on ICS like Nova and Apex, other than that it'll slow your device down (in my case).

[Driver] Qualcomm S3 Adreno 220 GPU ICS Flashable Update {UnSigned}

This Adreno GPU update is ONLY designed to work on ARM7 Devices running ICS.
I have only tested this on my T-Mobile HTC Amaze and have not experienced any issues.
I have created this Recovery Flashable Patch to Install the Qualcomm Updated Adreno Drivers on the "Official Ruby ICS" release.
Qualcomm Developers Website
I did not get a screenshot of the results before flashing this, however I have seen dramatically improved result on my Quadrant 3D scores with "Force 2D GPU rendering" UNCHECKED in the Setting->Develop Options Menu of this ICS Release. With this option checked I have seen improvements on both 2D and 3D. Although results are slightly degraded for 3D from post update the 2D results have doubled in value.
Quadrant results were obtained immediately after restart to avoid any other processes interfering with the results.
AFTER "Adreno ICS Update" Screenshot 2D Rendering NOT checked.

Where did I get what? What are you referring to in your post? Please specify.
I thought I posted links to all references used for this flashable update I created.
If you are referring to the Official Adreno Drivers, you can find the binaries on the Qualcomm Developers Website.
I hope this answers your question.

what exactly is the force gpu in the develop section for? I thought it has to be unchecked to use hardware acceleration? or is it the other way around?
Here's my screenshot for a "before" upgrading. I'm using ENERGY Rom so I'm not too sure if the value would be permissable.
Going to make a backup and flash your update and will report back.

I believe this option enables the GPU to render 2D as well as 3D instead of relying on the SW 2D Rendering default in the settings of ICS. We seem to have a developer version of ICS giving us more options than were available in Gingerbread.
I am pleased to see that you have achieved better results than I have with 2D GPU Rendering enabled. I think I might try to enable this option again to see if my initial assesment was a fluke.
Please post your complete configuration so other may benefit and maybe apply some other Tweaks you have implemented.
Thank you again bangsters for posting your result both before and after.

yea if I leave it unchecked, my scores are generally lower than when I enable the option.
however, after installing your update, I haven't see any scores below 2500. before I installed your update, i constantly hit scores of 2000 to 2200. so I guess your update works.
and I'm using Android Revolution 2.2.1 if that helps as well.

I am not sure from reading NRGZ28's changelog but my guess is that he may have already implemented this into his Custom ROM.
I would check on his ROM Thread to make that determination.

It is the other way around. You have to check this option to enable 2D accelaration. 3D acceleration is already enabled by default.
GPU = Graphic Processing Unit
By checking option this you ask Android to use the HW for 2D graphics acceleration.

Thank you sir for confirming posting your configuration and being one of the first to test.
If you look at your Quadrant Results on the bottom of the screen with the Enable 2D GPU rndering enable I see decreased results for 3D rendering but I do see increased results for the 2D rendering.
I have run several times and this is consistant.
If you are playing 3D games I would NOT enable this feature but for everyday use it seems to be OK since most of of the Android OS is in 2D.
I hope this helps.

Like I said earlier NRGZ28 may have implemented a hacked Adreno driver or some other tweak.
This is for ROMS that do not have any drivers or hacked drivers implemented.

Quadrant is a free benchmarking APP on the Google Play Store. This is where the screenshots are taken. This helps you to determine if there was any gain from this patch.
If you are using NRGZ28 ROM you probably will not see any improvement as stated in the previous post's.

I'm confused why anyone thinks the energy rom would have this included.. adreno not mentioned at all.
Android revolution HD mentioned some tweaks to adreno, but not drivers/software, just configs.
Here is with standard background processes under development options and force 2d unchecked
Here is with limit of 4 background processes unchecked(this is the scores I typically get) and 2d box unchecked.
If you compare the two, it seems like it mainly just made CPU perform better.
With 2d box checked both of the other configs went down to around 2100-2200.
EDIT: Just flashed the zip
Rather than post the screens here are links after flashing(best scores out of 4 tests each):
With force 2d unchecked
With standard background processes: https://www.dropbox.com/s/tfv5gupgoeyuuqv/2012-05-02_15-09-56.png
Limit 4 background/2d unchecked: https://www.dropbox.com/s/afi1gephh9m0nv1/2012-05-02_15-05-25.png

The next 2 are force 2d checked and had much improved 2d with slightly decreased 3d:
Standard background: https://www.dropbox.com/s/4bgoevkqt352o8z/2012-05-02_14-55-16.png

Conclusion:
Before flashing drivers:
2d ranged from 500-520 without when 2d was unchecked, and ranged from 550-600 with it checked(slight drop in 3d)
After flashing drivers
2d was just ranged 470-480 with it unchecked, but checked they ranged from 980-1000 for 2d(with the same slight drop in 3d)
Flashing drivers, with force 2d checked increased 2d performance much more while barely reducing 3d.
will this work on capcombeta rom? this what i'm already getting steady scores o quadrant.
it appears that many do not know this but quadrant is a TERRIBLE standard to use for a benchmark. run it 10 times and you will get 10 wildly different results half the time only one core will be detected and you can see this in the quadrant info menu and in the results, this is why you got 3k and 6k on cpu.
we need a new better benchmark to compare the difference
i hear alot of people say this but i disagree it is always very steady scores for me and when i'm getting higher scores i can definitly see the difference in my phones speed and smoothness. when i'm getting lower scores on different roms i can also feel the difference phone will be laggy.

{ICS}{Misc} -> Force GPU Rendering

Hi all, I would like to have opinion from you guys.
Under Development Settings, There Is a Force GPU rendering option
Force GPU Rendering []
Use 2D hardware acceleration in applications
Is it good to enable it or not ?
Some of my friends say Yes, some say No.
Well, I would like to have opinion from you guys now

Graphics are handled in one of two ways, "software", which means the primary CPU does the heavy lifting, and "hardware" which means the GPU does the lifting. Hardware rendering is better because it frees up CPU clock cycles for other stuff, so the phone moves faster/smoother (plus GPUs are designed to excel at the types of calculations graphic intensive applications do). This feature supposedly forces programs to use the GPU to paint 2D objects on the screen (2D was previously unsupported, so most apps and the base UI were software accelerated, 3D should be hardware by default), but it can cause crashing, bugginess.
Devs have the option to enable hardware acceleration with a simple line of code (according to Google at least.) If they choose to enable it, the app will be hardware accelerated regardless of what you set in there.

My camera behaves weirdly. And the black background of apps tends to have a white gradient from bottom up.

Are you using Chainfire3D?
You can try to compare and contrast with GPU rendering on and off.
Eg the back ground of root explorer. There will be LIGHT WHITE GRADIENT from bottom up.
No, I'm not using ChainFire3D. But I've tried it before. It ruins my graphics, games don't function properly even.

Xperia S ICS Problems

Do anybody know how to solve these ICS issues on Sony stock ICS ROM without flashing custom ROM?
- Very laggy
- Call loud speaker volume very low after upgrading from GB to ICS.
- Data speed reduced significantly.
- Read write speed reduced significantoh as well.
- Call disconnect more frequently.
- Graphics n benchmark score do improve but UI is much more laggy in comparison to GB.
- App crash n FC more oftenly.
- Battery drain much quicker in comparison to GB in same scenario n conditions.
- Everything became much more jorky, slow n laggy.

Don't **** about with scripts and boosters and task killers. And don't overclock too much as your cpu might not like it and cause reboots

[Q] Galaxy S3 UI Lag with Siyah

Hi All..
First lemme give my phone details:
Galaxy S3 International (i9300)
Kernel : Siyah 1.8.9
ROMs (Dual Boot)
: WanamLite v5.5 (based on ZSEMA1)
CM10.1 Nightly
MODS : JKAY framework
My problem is that there is noticeable UI lags when in the homescreen or the app drawer.
I have not overclocked/underclocked the CPU. Have no undervoltage setting as well. In STweaks, the max CPU freq is set to the stock 1400Mhz and the min CPU freq is set to the recommended 200Mhz. And I have kept the "touch boost level" to 1200Mhz.
When I see the UI lags, I used CPU spy to monitor the CPU speeds. What I could see was that the speeds were at the lower end (200 - 800 Mhz) !!! Since the touch boost level is set to 1200, shouldn't the CPU jump to 1200 Mhz when I unlock/touch the screen ? I agree that the CPU speed needn't stay at 1200Mhz after the speed boost, but shouldn't it stay at a freq to ensure that there is no UI lag ?
If the operating freq is at 1400Mhz, the UI is perfect !!! It goes to this state automatically usually (takes a while ), or manually I can make this happen by setting the min CPU freq to say 1300 MHz from STweaks. Once this state is hit, the UI wrks with no lag until say I lock the screen, or maybe the device goes to sleep for a while.
Any ideas as to why the CPU freq stays at lower values and doesn't come up enough to give a lag free UI ?

ANNNNNNNNNNNND what rom are you talking about!?! CM10.1 or Samsung? if you want a LAGG FREE phone do the following.
1: OverClock the CPU to 1.6ghz, then set min to 500mhz, use a -25mV or a -50mV
2: Set Governor to LULZACTIVEQ
3: Set MIN GPU freq to 266mhz
4: Set MAX GPU freq to 640mhz
5: Disable "gentle fair sleepers" on the CPU tab
6: Set the SCHEDULER to CFQ
7: Go to settings and enable GPU rendering
and FINALLY if non of the above work, FLASH Null_22.1 for a Samsung ROM. and Revolt, cm10.1, jellybam for a AOSP rom.
IF NON OF THAT WORK'S download super wipe and flash a new phone.
Can I just say, 1200mhz?!?! Default is 800 and I'm using 700 on my device. It's a bit extreme.
Perhaps your governor is affecting smoothness. Try using pegasusq. Or it may be the app your using to change CPU frequency doesn't even have ROOT access

6: Set the SCHEDULER to CFQ
7: Go to settings and enable GPU rendering and disable hardware overlays (resets on boot)
and FINALLY if non of the above work, FLASH Null_22.1 for a Samsung ROM. and Revolt, cm10.1, jellybam for a AOSP rom.
IF NON OF THAT WORK'S download super wipe and flash a new phone.

No. Do not disable hardware overlays. That will, if anything, cause your device to lag more.

This is a quote from a guy over at rootzwiki
Without a hardware overlay every application that is displaying things on the screen will share video memory and will have to constantly check for collision and clipping to render a proper image, this can cost a lot of processing power. With a hardware overlay each application gets its own portion of video memory, getting rid of the need to check for collision and clipping.
Basically, using hardware overlays can reduce CPU usage by quite a bit, so I would leave it enabled.

Maybe you're just lucky, I dunno. It's better to let a real dev share his/her input on this. I'm merely a noob who knows how to Google...

Heh, maybe not.
Uhm, you're welcome, I guess? :good:
It's probably smoother due to the fact that the CPU will be working at a higher frequency more often. Those that have disabled hardware overlays are causing their CPU to ramp up every time an application has to render an image

ANNNNNNNNNNNND what rom are you talking about!?! CM10.1 or Samsung? if you want a LAGG FREE phone do the following.
1: OverClock the CPU to 1.6ghz, then set min to 500mhz, use a -25mV or a -50mV
2: Set Governor to LULZACTIVEQ
3: Set MIN GPU freq to 266mhz
4: Set MAX GPU freq to 640mhz
5: Disable "gentle fair sleepers" on the CPU tab
6: Set the SCHEDULER to CFQ

The lag is more obvious in the Touchwiz based Wanamlite ROM.
1) As i said, when running at 1.4Ghz (with stock voltage settings) itsef the UI is smooth. So I don't actually want to overclock. . The problem is that the CPU speed doesn't rise up and stays between 200-800 causing the lag.
2) Will try changing the governor (first let me read how it is different from pegasusq ).
3,4) Again, with stock settings itself the UI is smooth. The problem is what i have said under point 1.
5) Already done.
6) WIll try setting scheduler to CFQ (again, lemme read bout it first )
7) GPU rendering is already ticketd. Hardware overlays are not disabled (thought this would increase the lag).
Is NULL_22.1 a Touchwiz based ROM ? And Jelybam is an AOKP ROM I supose ?
Wouldn't want to do the last option.
Also, I saw that you have mentioned three ROMs in your signature. Siyah lets you dual boot right, how come 3 ? Or were you just talking about your preference ?
And, does siyah 1.8.9 for the S3 let us boot with NULL_22.1 and jellybam in dual boot? Are all these combos possible ?
Sammy + CM10.1 (this works, I knw )
Sammy + AOKP
AOKP + CM10.1

Can I just say, 1200mhz?!?! Default is 800 and I'm using 700 on my device. It's a bit extreme.
Perhaps your governor is affecting smoothness. Try using pegasusq. Or it may be the app your using to change CPU frequency doesn't even have ROOT access

From what I understood, it just boosts upto 1200Mhz on touch and needn't stay there. Right ? The only downside there is battery life I suppose ?
Am already using pegasusq and yes, sTweaks does have root access.

Sent from my POCOPHONE F1 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
what did this mod actualy do? when i opened the cfg file it only contain this string :
0 1 adreno630
There a app called Walt ,but a test kit is required, the only way to test touch latency, anyone keen to try out ?

This removes the software gfx rendering pathway I.e configured in libGLES_android.so and makes use of gives priority to hardware gfx rendering i.e the GPU u have in some cases software rendering is faster than hardware rendering but since I personally prefer hardware rendering I made this mod so others can use it to to avoid hassle. Simply flash and notice faster better animation in UI and gaming.

I don't see any point doing such experiment because you will not notice any latency issue on daily bases expect in high end FPS gaming... If your concerned about the rumours about our device latency I can assure you it'll be fixed with a firmware update idk why Xiaomi is lazy to provide us the fix already!

so how do we uninstall once we flashed it?
Even the magisk manager has a downloadable module called GPU turbo boost.. but nothing is happening.. it seems as if it has placebo effect.. just a waste of space.. so your app works differently??? Im currently having issues playing nba 2k18 after some time..
I simply wanted to play it smoothly... With gl tools.. iT says.. 30-50fps.. but never stable..
Having a touch issue and multitouch problem
Somebody says that it's a GPU program fault so that I got multitouch problem in pubg and other fps games.
So does this mod improve my touch issues completely?

No we will need to wait for a good custom kernel
What effect does this have on the battery. Will my battery drain faster?
That mod is amazing. Everything is so smooth now, unbelievable +.+
Flashed it.... Lets see what happens
Anyone can tell if the keyboard lag typing problem is solved by using this mod?
Nothing happens on mine . I really want my touch screen issue to be fixed . Thanks anyway ts keep on sharing
