[Q] Location Services problem - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Not sure if its the right place to post (forgive me it's my 1st post)
I'm currently running '1ceCream Flavour (Beast)' ROM. (Brilliant ROM btw. I've used Elelinux, Ligux, and HTX MIUI also, so props to those ROM authors)
I'm not sure if it's related to the ROM itself, but I can't get it Fancy Widgets and Genie (News and Weather) Widget to use my location. As far as I am aware it worked for most the day. Location via GPS works but not thoroughly tested to confirm that. However Location via Wireless/Network doesn't seem to work. The Apps fail to find them. I am pretty much sure it's the same across all Location based Apps. (The location services work under the other ROMs, although HTX MIUI had a similar issue)
I've tried reflashing/wiping..formatting SD card/SD EXT etc. Stopping google framework and clearing cache for that and market.
flashed the v1.1 of 1ceCream Flavour to see if it solves it. after making sure everything is wiped. still the same.
Any ideas??
BTW I can't post in the Dev Section because I don't have 10posts count yet so that's why I'm here

have you authorised it in the settings?
(sometimes the answer is quite simple you know...)

Probably was a Gapps issue or Location Services process not running..
I checked in the usual places, however after flashing a newer version of BEAST, sorted the issue.
Even tried looking at the logcat but couldn't see anything that stood out to my little knowledge
Could be to do with the older decked_x based rom being in US English language. But i'm sure i had location working for a while
anyway. flashing a newer ROM fixed it...now just waiting for a stable cm7.2 based SHPONGLE v3.5

I Did, currently google apps flash-able package is available for CM7 ROMs but cant find for froyo.
And another point is, i corrupted my market app.. cant download any app now
I think Google talk is also not available in the android market.
why i posted:
ROM developers may have it that's why i posted maybe someone can provide one.
otherwise i will extract apk from ROM and try to create update zip. might be useful for others too
GApps packages are only for CM Rom's (And AOSP ones), since, those ROMs by themselves do not have any Google copyrighted stuff.
Sense based ROMs do not need GApps packages because most of them include it by default. Or, even if they do not include the apps package, they include atleast the Market app,
Seeing that, as you have put, your best bet would be to extract the APK and create the Update Zip yourself.
Looks like there is more than corrupt application in my case. I have created and flashed update even individually installed apks and services over existing ROM but getting FC on launching the application. Setup Wizard doesn't seems to work anymore and getting FC in loops.
Some unknown system components or services also seems to be affected. I think I would need to go back and restore nandroid or reflash the ROM
time to flash a New ROM for primary use. and keeping nandroid backups for test purpose. as a Primary ROM I will prefer CM 7.0.3, Wildpuzzel freezes sometimes during a call. i have used cm7 before but for test purpose. So i till go for CM7 and look for solution to connect ad-hoc wifi
why not just reflash your rom and make a backup of any data you want before hand

[Q] slidescreen calendar problem

I recently installed ICS 4.04 root (via downgarde to 4.03 kernel for another xperia device, software exploid and flash proper 4.04 kernel). Now, I wanted to obtain my set-up from GB back: slidescreen home (to display information) with swipepad and wave launcher to launch apps. Unfortunately, the developement of slidescreen has been stopped - and there seems to be nothing similar in the market, although it is imho a really usefull homescreen concept. My problem is now, that slidescreen seems to be unable to access the calendar database from SE 4.04... wonder if anybody can suggest a way out here? Is the database structure determined by the kernel or by the apps in the ROM? Would possibly flashing a custom kernel solve the problem? Did someone try the "slidescreen replacement lock screen" which seems to be floating around somewhere (and as far as I understand needs a different kernel and rom and unlocked bootloader)? Or does someone know an appropriate replacement?
Kernel only controls the information between hardware and software. That is, between the phone's chip and the firmware.
If the application has no support for ICS, then it won't work fully as it is supposed to. Since the developer is fully aware of the code, how it's been made, how it works etc, he can do it the best.

I see. Unfortunately, the developer has abandonded the product. So there won't be any further updates. I tried to install GB calendar storage provider and calendar storage but it did not work either and when I restarted the phone the system seems to overwrite the GB apps with ICS apps automatically (at least the version numbers were the ICS ones again). Is that possible?

Maps API unavailable with codeworkx CM10 + gapps 0726

Ever since I've started working the CM10 builds from codeworkx (which, by the way, are amazing), I've had a persistent problem with the Google Maps API not being available. Google Maps itself continues to work fine, but apps which depend on it don't work anymore. In the case of Instagram it just means I can't use the photomap which isn't a huge problem, but for apps like Uber and AirBNB it means that I can't install them at all (they show up as incompatible). Trying to install the apps via adb also fails with INSTALL_FAILED_MISSING_SHARED_LIBRARY.
I've tried installing a few different versions of gapps (currently using 20120726 since it's the most recent) and it hasn't helped. I also found some instructions for fixing this issue a while ago by updating the relevant files directly (can't post the link, but it's on slatedroid and the article is "fixing the INSTALL_FAILED_MISSING_SHARED_LIBRARY error") but it hasn't helped either.
I've tried all of this both with an updated CM10 build as well as after doing a full wipe and install of the updated ROM with no change.
Any ideas on what could be going on? Is there anything else I can try?

Deleting "bloatware" Desire X ?

Hey all, I've tried several ways to delete some of the system apps like Google+, TuneIn,... up to cooking up roms based on stock in rom kitchen and so on... it seems like HTC has changed some things with this model because none of them worked.
If I just go with the stock rom and delete them, they invariably come back, like weed or something lol and if I use a "lite" rom made in rom kitchen, there's usually something else that breaks. Closest I've gotten is everything working, except Google Play giving me a 406 error if I try to download something.
What's even odder to me - remember I'm new to Android - is that freezing them using Titanium Backup or even the stock app manager does work and the OS works, without error. It's like HTC buried some software checks in the OS to make sure all stock apps are there, regardless of them actually running.
I followed these guidelines to know which apps to delete : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1532366. It's for the HTC Rezound, but many of the apps on there are on Desire X too.
Anyone have similar experiences ?
Well, i did it the way i explained in the AIO Toolkit Thread: here
i removed only the necessary stuff, everything's working great here, no errors, no bootloops.
Only issue was, that some sense widgets were missing, when they weren't deleted. I guess, there's some linking with all HTC stuff (maybe, don't know) and i deleted something wrong. Flashed everything again, now it's ok. :-|

New Rom, 3GB User Data, Updated/modded MTC Apps and working Weather

Been a while since I made a ROM for an Android Headunit so I am a little rusty, but hopefully this works.
This is basically the JY ROM from 9/23/2015 with:
the userdata partition changed to 3GB
modded JY apps (4.8 for music, 4.2 for radio, 4.1 for BT and 4.0 Blue for videos - see this thread for details of them - Thanks to @sabruri1, @ANACLETOESTR, @pk313 and @robertut for their work on the apps).
also MTCWeather was updated to 1.4.1 so currently it is working like it should.
I haven't tested this so make sure you know what you are doing and currently it is only RK3188 1024x600 (I may make other versions if it works and there is demand).
Rom isn't rooted and has nothing else added (I wanted something as close to stock as possible, I just didn't want to have to use root explorer to copy in all the updated system apps repeatedly.
Root should work with the factory setting password tho.
Anyway hopefully someone can test.
Also:
Since the userdata partition is changing size you need to wipe data before and after flashing.

Glad to see more ROMs for our devices come up, but I won't go back to a non-FUSE ROM. I'm currently running the booroondook ROM and love it. I tried the latest Malaysk ROM, but went back to booroondook after 2 days for different reasons.
Nice to see another ROM on the scene, it is a shame that we do not get the variety that phones get, I too am using booroondook and Malaysk ROM's, but as soon as someone makes a rom that TomTom can work on I will jump ship.
I found that the booroondook rom still had to much stuff added, I don't really see the point in adding a bunch of additional apks or options when they are simple enough to download and change. Plus I don't think weather works on any of those other ones out of the box. FUSE is nice but I think 3GB is more than enough and still leaves plenty of room on the NAND for media files, etc.
