Xperia S + USB car stereo - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hey guys I did some research already and it appears that the Xperia S can't connect to the USB on my car stereo and play music because it does not come with an MSC mode? I saw that there is a mod in the development section that allows you to mount your phone to USB devices and I'm wondering if that is a solution to connecting my phone to the car, or if there are any other alternatives.

Normally i connect my phone with bluetooth to an sony carstereo. It worked really fine..
I dont know if thats an option for you..
Some people say .76 fixed that problem.. Cant really confirm that. You can give it a try...

On my cheap kenwood mobile stereo there are no problem connecting and playing music from the phone...
I had a problem, but discovered that if i turned USB-errorcorrection or was it unknown sources off, the problem was gone...
Try to play a little with those settings...
Sent from my FONY Xperia S, still without ICS!!!

Well the USB is my only option because I want to be able to control it through my car controls
I updated to .75 and I got the same error, also enabled unknown apps and usb debugging. Anyone know what else I can do to fix this problem?

I don't think you can control the phone through USB, but you might be able to via Bluetooth, if you have that.
(I have Bluetooth headphones and can change tracks from the headphones)

Have you got an auxiliary out socket on your car stereo?
Can you connect to that from the headphone socket on your phone?

OP you need to root so you can mod it to use the internal as mass storage. That'll fix it.

Ok then...
Maybe my cheap kenwood is just better at this then, but i doubt...
I have no rooted firmware just stock...
My carradio don't actually controll the phone, it just play the music foldere on my phone, and i am able to controll that...

Shoot, I was thinking about rooting it, apparently it will work if I access MSC mode? I just don't know exactly how to root it, is there like a new root method for .75 update or do you downgrade first? I'll probably find the answer if i dig through the forums but since this is my first time owning an android phone I didn't want to risk bricking it only weeks after buying it!
My car doesn't support bluetooth stereo unfortunately so only the USB cable is an option, and yes AUX works but that is besides the point.

I am in the same boat as you, I have an Alpine 105i, and the Xperia doesn't even know it's plugged in, so won't even charge, never mind be used as a MSD...
Let me know how you get round this if you do.

2.1 Rom Bluetooth simple secure pairing (SSP)

Hey all,
I have been using my Eris with a bluetooth Stereo for a quite a while, but when I rooted the phone over to a 2.1 ROM it started using Simple Secure Pairing (SSP) when authenticating the bluetooth headphones. My car stereo doesn't support this (its brand new too...).
So, the question is has anyone ever looked into disabling SSP and forcing it to use the old static key method of pairing in 2.1?
I am not adverse to diving in and doing the dev work, I just wanted to make sure someone hasn't already done it. If I do need to dive in does anyone know if its possible to disable it via a config file, or will I need to backport the bluez stack?
Thanks for all the great work,
traetox
I too am having this issue. Worked fine in 1.5 but ever since root it will play audio through pioneer head unit but phone won't connect. I will patiently await a fix.

Oh, so that's what's up.
I'm having a similar problem with my Jabra Cruiser bluetooth speakerphone/FM transmitter. What mine does, though, is it will connect and I can use it to listen to music and do the normal speakerphone functions like it normally would, but none of the media buttons will work anymore. It's not a huge inconvenience, since I mount my phone in the car anyway (long commute). It's only a problem if I need to have Google Navigation in the foreground but still want to change songs.
Patiently waiting. You devs are awesome, if you don't get enough sycophantic slobbering already.
ok, so I did some digging on mine and it turns out that I can pair with a simple bluetooth headset via the '0000' key. But the phone attempts to go through the full key negotiation to connect the "bluetooth headphones." So i can get audio via the headset negotiated connection, but it sounds awful without full AD2P.
I am getting a ROM kitchen setup and will try and map the 1.5 bluez stack onto the 2.1 source and see where that gets me.
Thanks for the input.
Thanks for working on this! I've tried to incorporate some of the Bluetooth files as well as the WLAN.ko from other roms into my Rom but have been unsuccesful. I am running damage control 2.08 that I ported. I was originally unable to get WiFi or Bluetooth to work until I copied the WLAN.ko from the oc patch now both work minus the phone. Don't know if this helps but figured i let you know. If you have those files from a 1.5 Rom I will try them in my port and let you know what the results are.

I have a Jabra Crusier, and I'm having an issue with a lot of ROMs where I can not connect to it and stream music over bluetooth. I have found that Aloysius v6 Maps rom by Spencer Moore works well with the bluetooth thing. You may have to connect and disconnect a few times here and there to get it to connect, but it's been the best ROM for it. I used V11 Maps and it worked for a little while, but stopped connecting properly just recently.
There are a few known bugs with v6, but I'm fiddling with V11 to try and get the bluetooth to stay perm. Once I get it, I'll let Spencer Moore know and get him any new updates I come across.
Just an update. I am able to pair and connect to phone using white widow Rom.

[Q] USB connect in 08' Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought this car yesterday 01/04/12 and I noticed that it has a USB plug for my phone, so I connected my phone with my Jeep via USB and it does not recognize my phone. Just curious what I have to do to be able to connect the two. It would be pretty sweet because I can load up to 20 gb of storage on my cars hard drive and play music and view pictures and stuff.. so any help would be awesome.
Thank you!
Not likely that the Jeep will interface with your phone. USB ports in cars are generally for thumb drives that you put MP3 files on or for updating the Nav systems. Try calling a Jeep dealer for more info on what capabilities that USB port has.

Thank you, I'll just do it that way.
Might need to put the phone into USB storage mode - gotta tap on one of the notifications.
Can't help too much more - I haven't used USB mass storage mode in ages, being lazy I just adb push/pull.
Putting it in mass storage mode usually works. I haven't used it in a while either as I use bt now. But if you have an external card also the read time when you first plug it in could take a few min.

If it has a USB connection then mass storage should work for mp3's and some other music formats. It does in mine. If for some odd reason it doesn't you should check if it has bluetooth. You can then stream your music and/or do hands free calling

No. I also have an '08 Jeep GC with the Nav radio. In order to play music from the SG2 you will need to connect via AUX input. If you have the rear entertainment unit you can connect the SG2 to those inputs. (Of course you'll need a micro usb to RCA cable but you can get one custom made. Check the accessories thread as there is a member making them.) Else you'll need to connect the SG2 via the headphone jack to the 3.5" input on the radio. Another option is the Lockpick device for the NAV radio. You can google MyGIG Lockpick for more details.
Update: Here's the link to the thread for custom cable. Not sure if he's making anymore but you can check. I bought one and it works great.

Thanks in advance.
P.s. Sorry if this ir not the right section.
I think this is relating to streaming music via USB to your phone. I haven't found such an app yet. All of them require you to copy the music to SD

If your audio drivers have configurable jacks you can use the microphone jack for speakers/headphones.
And yes this works i just tested it, my PC has a Realtek soundcard, plugged in headphones and reconfigured Mic to headphones.

XMP: Strange hardware problem with JACK

Hi there,
I've got really strange problem with my XPERIA MINI PRO - when I plug in the headphones, the phone wouldn't recognize them.
Only if I've had them plugged before BOOT of my phone.
So, when Iam turning on / rebooting my phone with plugged phones, they're working and recognized, but when I disconnect them, same problem -> phone ignores it.
So, my xperia mini pro can't recognize the action of plugging in phones in general. Have tried official kernel, custom kernel, few roms and its deffinitely a hardware problem.
Does anyone knows how does this phone recognize that? And what might be my problem?
Thanx for any ideas.

i have a similar problem on mine, but mine thinks it has headphones plugged it all the time! i downloaded an app called "headset toggle" it gives you a widget on your home screen to show if headphones are connected or not, and clicking on the icon forces a connect or disconnect of them regardless of wether they are connected or not, should fix your problem:
http://code.google.com/p/toggleheadset/
edit: just to add i have 4.0.4 and it works perfect on my phone
Headset not recognising
i am facing the similar problem...... my headset is also not detecting when i plug in, detecting only when i reset my phone and when i unplug again it's not detecting. i face this problem since i update my mobile to latest version (ICS 4.0.4)

Hello,
I had the exact same problem. It was a hardware problem. The only way is to take it in for service as I did. was repaired at electronics level.
Is it possible to solve this problem with headphones? Any app? Toggleheadset does not work for me. Thanks

did you use a SE headphone or a normal headphone?
i got similar problem. If jack isnt plugged in, there are some electronical noises in microphone, so i cant use, if i remove jack, the phone doesnt recognize. i ToggleHeadset, now microphone works good, and recognized that i removed the jack
what hardware causes this problem? i ask it because i bring my mini pro friday to the service, and maybe i'll ask about it there for repair.

This is a halfway software solution to make the phone work, for a complete repair i believe taking the phone to service is necessary.
I have a hardware problem where xperia mini pro (Stock Rom ICS 4.0.4) is constantly detecting headphones connecting and disconnecting. This stops all the multimedia with sound, so it was impossible to start a music file or video because it was automaticly paused).
Disabling the Live ware app (connect now app) did not help,
This may not work for people who can not make phone play music or videos after headphones are inserted,
I managed to solve problem with software and by inserting headphones in the jack once every boot.
You need 2 apps; soundabout and toggleheadset2 (widget),
soundabout does not need to be registered), you will just need to set soundabout service to run on every boot, and set the 'media audio' output to speaker by default.
Every time phone is booted or rebooted insert the headphones, then play a song, remove the headphones and toggle headset to off, every time you wish to use the headphones you will need to toggle the headset widget to on manually,
i recommend to have phone calls and messages also set to vibrate in case you forget to toggle after unplugging the headphones.
I have not yet managed to get working the headset microphone,
If the headphones work in iPhone they wont work in Xperia mini pro or arcs or 2011 device , u need JVC gummy plus , they come with adaptor to sort the problem

[Q] Car Stereo Integration?

My car stereo supports USB thumb drives and iPods. My understanding is that this would work with UMS mode on Android (I think). But with ICS, UMS is gone and replaced by MTP and PTP. Is it possible to still connect an ICS android phone to a car stereo via USB?
I've got a Samsung Galaxy S3 and have tried using the "SGS3 Easy UMS" app to connect my phone with no luck. Is this on the right track? Has anyone else gotten this to work?
I've just switched over from an iPhone which worked great in the car for streaming music via USB and would like to do the same with my SGS3, but right now I can't seem to find a solution so I'm leaning towards returning it and going for the iPhone 5.
Anyone have any luck connecting an ICS android device to a car stereo via USB?
TIA!

Unfortunately, this model stereo (Bose) does not have a 3.5mm input, it only has the USB input. The manual states that the USB input supports "various USB memory sticks, USB hard drives, and iPod players". I have been using it without issue with my iPhone 4 (both as a "USB drive" and to play streaming music via spotify and other streaming players). With the Android phone, with MTP, it doesn't look like a USB drive and therefore won't actually connect (I get a "check device" message).
Seems strange to me that with ICS, the OS is no longer compatible with any of these USB-enabled car stereos (and there seem to be only a handful of MTP-compatible head units out there). Since it apparently worked pre-ICS (I can't verify if that would work on my specific car stereo since my phone is ICS), it would seem that they could have at least had an option to enable UMS mode.
Still hoping for a solution...

I know how you feal i have a AVH-P3300T and it works GREAT with pandora and iPhone...(even an iPhone 2G) pandora detected the stereo as an accessory right away... but for what ever reason when i plug my HTC Sensation in it jsut reads it it as a disk drive..
there has to be some active driver letting the head unit and the device talk... If there was a way to capture that level of logging going on im sure there some people here that could reverse engineer this... and just make it so that its a service runnign in the back ground...
Either that... or soemoen figure out how to REPROGRAM a head unit from its stock image to an android image lol...
