[Q] Changing Boot Animation - HTC Rezound

Whe I change the boot animation in the rom's .zip do I then reflash the rom?
And if so do I do a wipe or just reflash without any wipe.
Thanks

you can just make a zip with the bootanimation and then flash that only.. no need to reflash the rom

Any time I have tried to just flash the zip with the boot animation it didn't take and the animation for the rom I am running (CleanRom) is still present.

Did you make sure that the bootanimation.zip in located in the in the same directory in the flashable zip as it is in the rom. For example, alot of roms the boot animation is located in system/media, therefore it would need to be in the same directory in the flashable zip. you can also just use a file manager like root explorer or es file explorer and just swap out the animations.

It seems like swapping them out is a tad easier

Precook Kernel into Rom Zip

Is there a unified manner in which this is done?
I've been looking for a way to precook this kernel here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756774 into my ROM's zip before flashing, to save myself the extra step.
Is there anything special to it? I assumed it might just be as straightforward as copying the entire folder structure into the ROM's zip, but the kernel inquestion actually has a third folder called "kernel".
Any help would be much appreciated, this combined with my LauncherPro cooking question earlier will make this ROM perfect for me

unpack the existing rom zip's boot image, copy in the kernel you wants zImage, repack it and plop the boot image back into the sip. then remove all the modules in /system/lib/modules in the rom zip and copy all the modules from the kernel zip into the modules folder in your rom zip.
then you ware ready to go.
Yes man, but where to put the zImage? i have 2 GZ files and 1 folder. i tried to put it in the folder and repack that, and the rom stuck at the splash screen. where to put it and how?
thanks

If it's just the bootanimation.zip you can't flash it. You need to copy it to your sdcard, then using root explorer or another file manager move it to /system/media.
Backup the bootanimation.zip which is already in there. I usually just rename to bootanimation_original.zip or something like that.
<edit> Just saw your edit! hah........nm

[Q] Can boot animations be flashed?

Can boot animations be flashed with hboot 1.5? Either with flash image or fastboot?
Yea splash screen can't though
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
You can even change boot animations with root explorer. I'm on 1.5 and I've done both without fastboot.
sent from America....F__k yeah!

No, boot animations are not flashed through recovery. You need to to use use ES File/Root Explorer and replace the Sprint_bootanimation.zip or Sprint_downanimation.zip in the /system/customize/resource and make sure the permissions are set correctly.

this is incorrect, just FYI. You can flash boot and downanimations, no matter where they are stored.

Just a bit of fyi. If your using twrp 2.0 or 2.0.0r... whatever.... I always recommend always flashing it from the root of your sd card. For IE: say you make a folder called boot and downboot and you have them all saved there and your all good. So you have been flashing from there ( this goes w/ any flash)
One day you decide you want to redo your stuff and you figure you would re do your directory and put files in another place and delete the folders that you have previously flashed from. Next time you try to flash any zip you will recieve an error and not be able to flash any zip. This is a bit of advice from previous experience.
But yes you can flash a boot or downboot if it is set up that way, but would recommend always keeping on your root of your sd and then moving it later if need be bc you don't like to have that many files in the main directory.
Hope it helps for those that may not know already.

Sent from my GT-S5830i using xda app-developers app
You need to edit the kernel source and recompile using the image, aka not worth it
Also the image in present in .lfs partition inside /mnt folder
And please instead of creating new threads for questions, Post them here

That is incorrect.
As long as the phone is rooted and you have a file explorer (ES File Exp) installed, you need to copy the dowloaded .zip file to the following location:
/system/media/
and rename to bootanimation.zip. Reboot and shazaam

[Q] bootanimation file

as per the instruction to change the bootanimation I went to system/media on root browser but there is no bootanimation.zip instead there are qmg files like bootsamsung.qmg, bootsamsungloop.qmg, chargingwarning.qmg and so on. Hope some dev can help me.
Read the boot animation thread again .
Instructions tell you to put a bootanimation zip in the location its not the standard qmg boot files .
i have gone through the instructions on that forum... they asked to rename(backup) the existing bootanimation.zip file and paste the new one, set permission and reboot. But there is no bootanimation.zip file only.

Dont know about that i have a old boot animation working just fine on numerous 4.3 roms .
Enable custom boot animation zip when a boot animation zip does not work out of the box or i have not changed it in the rom base .
Would your own basic NA5 rom have that included binary ??

My NA5 doesn't have that, I self-compiled it from CM sources and put in ArchiDroid 1.X. For me, this zip didn't work (caused black screen only) on stock ROM, however it worked on some custom kernels.
I am so glad the GREAT archidroid rom dev replied....so will this work in stock samsung 4.3?? i am using galaxy s3.
