(help needed)SD card read error - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Thanks for viewing this post.
I have been encountering a weird problem for some weeks. Whenever i reboot my optimus, memory card isn't recognized. No used/free space counter in settings, it's as if it just isn't there. Then, after some time "preparing sd card" appears in the notification center.
But the problem here is it isn't definite when will it appear- it can be after 5 minutes after booting or 7 hours. its just random. had been encountering it in cm7 for some time, thought ics would fix this problem (wiping everything). Worked like this for two days in ics.
Until tomorrow afternoon.
Now it just isn't recognizing it.
That's why i opened up my first thread.
Seems like the sd card read initialize settings are messed up. Used to be A flasher, but flashed my first ROM in two months, two days ago.
Ps: oh, and when it was getting recognized, the size of .androidsecure in root of the sd card wasn't getting analyzed, in windows it was.
Share your similar experiences, thoughts and let's come up with a solution to this one.

I think this is a hardware problem...

I believe by hardware you mean sd card. maybe but it works perfectly in windows pc, as well as Nokia phones.
Maybe the card holder (which, well, holds card in place) is acting up.

A point to be noted- other cards work flawlessly, and my card doesn't works in other phones. So, must probably (!) The memory card is the culprit.

Bought a new one altogether.

P500 new and strange microsd issue

I'll tell you a strange issue (additional to the already mentioned on other posts) of the micro SD, I found and tested it today, and i have not resolved it yet.
ISSUE:
without notice, the phone is switched on etc, shows the notification "SD Removed, Please enter a new one", I thought it was strange since I had changed the micro with another, a san disk 16gb HC, nothing of strange.
i restart the phone, but the notification does not go away. i begin to be worried, 'cause it usually disappears.
I remove the backpanel, the secure of microsd and take it off.
So far nothing abnormal belief, and reinsert it.
The phone still does not see the new microsd.
i was in street so didn't proceed with further testing and i messd up for a while. arrived home i tried with 3 other microsd, the default supplied by LG, with still the old data within, and no one of them were detected
NEW two maxell 2gb microSD, HC always, are not detected.
I thought it was a pin problem, but keeping the vertical microsd clearly known that the pins are aligned correctly
(1 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1).
restarting the phone with and without early MicroSim they are not recognized.
The PC and other phones are working properly.
I also made a restore procedure from privacy-settings, but still no sign of life.
any suggestion?

mine problem as i told is not an unmount problem but the absolute not detection mode, i tried the cards on another phone, all of them works.
by the way today i pick up the battery, and i looked for the little white warranty sticker, and it is a f****' pale pink!
the phone had no contact with water or everything like that, so it's impossible that i burned my warranty in this f****' way!
by the way i think is an hware problem, and i think is caused from some components on the little board on the upper side of the phone where are the antenna, speakers, vibrator engine, and the sd slot.
I had similar problem, my LG came up with error message that the micro sd card was damaged, i tried 3 different card and always had the same message.
I took my 16Gb sandisk card out of the phone and to a card reader.
The card worked perfectly on my PC so i started to take a backup of the card and then run some problem diagnostic tool and thank god, it finished and promped that some errors where fixed.
Since than it has worked perfectly in my optimus one...

let me understand better, u ran the diagnostic tools on for the SD card or for the lg optimus one?, and if the second, can u post, send pm, with the link of them? Many many anyways for the answer =)
I simply ran the diagnostic tools on the sd card conected to my pc via usb card reader in win7. I was about to give up on this when i decided to try this, tough i didn't think it would actually work. but it did.....
someone at LG should look into this, my friend experienced exacly the same problem with optimus GT540. it was after installing some custom rom in his case, but i still have the original firmware, i haven't done any hacks but rooting, wich i don't belive could cause this problem...
oh, and i hope i am making my self clear, my english is not perfect since it's not my first language..
I do confirm.
This happened on my new phone.
Without any reason.

Internal/External SD Card Broken

So right now I'm running CM7 and have been for a couple of weeks, everything was going great but that's when today I rebooted my phone and a message poped up saying my sd card was damaged. I thought it meant my external card which I hadn't had much on so I formated it, little did I know it meant internal and external, so about 10GBs formated later and frustration taken out on my punching bag, I decided to see if the problem would reoccur. As I thought, it would, it happened again, I rebooted my phone and the SD Card Damaged message poped once more asking me to format leaving my sd card useless unless I granted it's wish. So about 3 more reboots later with the problem still happening I came to the conclusion that this was definitely no 2 time only problem and decided I'd question XDA's thoughts on this. I did my research and found a thread in the Captivate forums on it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731452
Seems it may be a lagfix problem.
I'm guessing I should ODIN and see if the problem still occurs before jumping on the gun to call Samsung for a new phone or freaking out any more.
But unfortunately I don't have the time for that as I have classes in the morning, so I'll leave with hope to someone having the answers as to why this has happening, what can I do, and will this ever happen again.
Also I can no longer access the external sd card.
Odin to JFD, this happened to me once in CM7, back to odin then back to cm7 worked for me.

SD Killer?

Hi,
Over the last week, I've had two SD cards die on me:
The first card I've had since I got my i9300 S3 (13 months). Prior to last week, it worked flawlessly (KomputerBay 32GB class 6). Then suddenly after rebooting I see an SD card damaged error. After trying chkdsk and fsck it looks like the card is certainly damaged but was able to recover some of the files.
Thinking it was just bad luck and the card dying, I purchased a 32gb class 10 Lexar card brand new. In the meantime, I used a 4GB Samsung SD card that came with the S3 for approximately 5 days and it worked fine with no errors or corruption.
With the new card, I copied over all my files, music etc. After an overnight using the phone, some calling etc. I rebooted the phone only to get the same error. Windows didn't even recognise the card let alone recover it. fsck likewise. Did a full format again and restored some files from original backup, it's been less than 24 hours and so far so good but I am not ready to relax just yet.
I'm really baffled as to what could be causing it as the card seems only to fail after a reboot. Prior to then, the card displays as mounted in system settings and files are accessible. The only other strange thing I've noticed is that when playing music/podcasts and turning off the screen the playback jitters for a moment or two before returning to normal. This started quite recently. I'm using UltimaROM 13.0 at the moment with Boeffla kernel. Have disabled all SD related optimisations and have no CPU or GPU overclocking or undervolting. I've been using Ultima for months with no major config changes recently.
I'm at the point now where I am almost scared to reboot! Last time I rebooted I unmounted the SD just in case. The only other possible difference in behaviour is that as I was travelling I had my phone on charge all night and although I can't be 100% sure rebooted with the phone charging (though again, its not the first time I've rebooted while charging). I've googled this far and wide and most SD related issues seem to be caused by the card randomly unmounting. I've never seen this in my instance.
Any ideas on what this might be or what I could do to troubleshoot further? I don't want to restore to stock, unroot, reset counters etc. and return to Samsung unless I can be at least reasonably confident its a hardware issue.
Thanks,

Do you mean http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1906058 ? If so, yes though the key difference for me is that my card doesn't seem to randomly unmount like most reports indicate. Also, it's very recent. Don't also see any possible solutions in there unless I'm missing something?

SD-card randomly unmounts

I've got the 1/8 2100 MHz Omate Truesmart, still running stock firmware (0328) unpatched - I wanted to try it out a bit before playing with other ROM's and such.
Yesterday I installed an SD-card (16 GB sdhc). It worked great for about 10 minutes, then I got a notification on my watch saying something like "SD card unexpectedly removed, please unmount card before removing it" or similar, and then the card was no longer available. I restarted the device, but no change. I suspected I maybe didn't lock the card-holder properly, and opened up the watch again. It was locked, but it did look like it wasn't pressing down the card enough (the SD card had maybe 0.5-1mm "flex" at the connector if I pushed it). I made a McGyver fix and placed a small piece of paper between the card and the holder, pushing the card down a bit more so it was firmly in contact with the SD-card pins. After assembly it worked great again.
Until now, about 24h later. I got a new notification saying my card was unexpectedly removed. Everything looks good inside the watch, so I'm starting to suspect it's a software issue. Does anyone know if the TS have any known issues with the SD card? Or, possibly, if any specific app or similar may cause SD-card unmounting. Never had this issue on any other device, but knowing the state of Omates software it's a likely candidate. Just hoping it's not a hardware issue.
Any ideas?

I had this happen to me last week. I turned off all modes, closed all apps and reset the watch. Hasn't happened since. I suspect an app was causing the trouble.

I've tried disabling most apps / services, apply stock launcher again and such without any success. After some googling it seems there are a few options. Either bad connection on the card (possible, as it held up for at least a day after wedging in the card more securely), software incompatibility (seems 4.1 had big issues with this especially, and some SD-card brands seem to suffer more from this than others), or finally a defective SD-card. Some SD-cards just seem to fail after a while, even though it hasn't happened to me before. For now I think I'll just leave the card in place until the next software update (if we will ever see one), or try another SD card once I get my hands on one.
If anyone else suffers from this, it would be nice to hear how you solved it.
Also, for reference, my SD card is a Kingston 16 GB sdhc card.

SD card problems

Hi All,
Anyone have issues with their sdcard being detected with the G5? I have an 850 and a lot of the time the sdcard stops working or being detected and i cant see why. A reboot and then waiting 20 mins usually fixes it and it shows up in the storage section but its getting annoying.. May have to try another card to see what the story is with that but for now i wondered if anyone else had drama with it.
Cheers
Cass
Maybe the card is dying i would suggest backing up the data just to be safe
No problem with mine
Send from my LG G5 using Tapatalk
Backed up and reformated the card on pc as ntfs. Card detected on insert, it told me it was corrupt, which it was due to no ntfs support and it formatted it again as exFat. Lets see how it goes now.

This seems to be frequent to a certain extent. This is a hardware issue. Same with S7 Edge or non-Edge (visit page: digitaltrends.com/mobile/galaxy-s7-edge-problems/8/
It seems that LG has the same issue. It could also be an Android 6 issue.
I got my new S7. I have sent to other one for repair. They changed the motherboard. Then it came back with the same issue. Then Samsung sent me a bran new S7. I have no more SD card notifications at all. Not even when I reboot the phone. Yesterday (again) I was listening to music (a set of 2 hours long) from my SD card. I started to look at pictures (again) at the same time. After 40 mins or so, my phone stopped the music and stopped being able to read my SD. Everything froze and I had to reboot. Then, again, a few mins later (listening to music and looking at pictures), it did it again. On the second time, I was not able to reboot the phone using the power button (keeping pressure for 10 seconds). I had to do it using the volume down/home/power. The phone screen was totally black and there was no way to unfreeze it. My notification light was flashing blue (as I had new emails and text), but the phone was not responsive at all.
It seems like Samsung just removed the SD notification as a whole in the new phone but did not fix the issue.
For those who don't have the issue, before commenting, I would appreciate if you could listen to music and look at your pictures at the same time (all from the micro SD card) for at least 30-40 minutes.
I strongly believe that ALL phones have this issue, but that those who don't just have not access pictures while listening to music (demanding on the SD card reading). Do it if you can... and see if it creates problems. And let me know once you did the above.
I forgot to mention. I am a computer and smartphone savy. I flashed all my S1, S2, S3, S4 on a daily basis. I did purchased another SD card (even if my sandisk is working perfectly on my S5). I got a Samsung evo 64gm. The issue remains on both SD cards, and before you comment about it, YES i did reformat on multiple occasions both with my pc AND within the phone. I also did factory reset on multiple occasions. So it is not the SD's the problem. Just trust, I did everything possible.
I have the g5 se and have bought a 128gb card (actually have 3) but none of the 3 work with this phone and when i manage to get the files (music) on the sd when in device it deletes them all is this still the issue people are having
