I have to say, this is the most pointless thread I've ever seen created. All questions are so easily answered. I suggest you read more before starting new topics with questions like these.

If you don't know if you need it or not, then the short answer is: no, you don't need it.
Read, read, read, then read some more, then Google what you read but didn't understand. Then if you think you need it, read the stickies here to learn how to install it.

Put it this way: if you're happily running with Windows7 and could care less about Windows8, then you don't need even think about the 8.
Apply that to Android.

Ics 4 has a lot better batery life.
For me thats the main reason.

Battery life is subjective. Its really more relative to whatever extra apps and crap u stick on that can affect it. If u know what yer doing with tweaking kernel stuff (undervolting, underclocking, etc.) U can get great battery life on most ROMS. GB 2.3.4 firmware was awesome for me in regard to battery life. To each their own I suppose.

Hey newbie! Evolve your 777 to shostock! It's flawless so far and better than MIUI and everything else that I've tried!

As far as the thread, people have been able to get NFC tags working as well as Android Beam. So, I'd say most of the things are working except Google Wallet, which on one part, is the most important use for NFC for a lot of us, but that's AT&T's fault, so...
Thank you DG.. it is appreciated

I777UCLD4 4.0.3 how to root

I have been bouncing back and forth between 2.3.6 and 4.0.3 and wish I could figure out a good way to root my ICS 4.0.3. The things I have tried from here have all resulted in failures and having to rollback to 2.3.6 rooted. I hate all the voice recognition software and would love to get rid of it so rooting is my only options, I think!
Please help if possible.

Go to the AT&T Galaxy S2 Forums. They can help you. The i777 is the AT&T Galaxy S2.
Yes my phone is a Samsung Galaxy SII
There seems to be some confustion. First make sure your phone is an I777. Look under the battery.
I777UCLD4 was a pre-release leak. The officially released version is I777UCLE5. Do not install UCLD4. Go to the development section and get UCLE5 Stock ICS plus Root.

[Q] Choosing the right CF-Root kernel.

Hello
This is my first attempt at rooting a phone and even though I managed to narrow down the kernels I could use to 2, I figured it wouldn't hurt to consult people with more experience at this just to make sure I'm making the right choice.
I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 bought from Estonia.
My phone's kernel version is as follows:
3.0.15-I9100XWLP7[email protected]#3
Now, as I understood the bold part is what I need to pay attention to when picking the kernel I'm going to use. I searched Chainfire's thread according to the understanding I have and found two between which one is probably the one I'm looking for.
Which of these two should I be looking at (and what's the difference between the two, are they the correct ones?) :
CF-Root-SGS2_DX_XTC_LP7-v5.4-CWM5.zip
CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_LP7-v5.4-CWM5.zip
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Why is that?
I read that CF-Root is great if the user is looking for a original-like experience and that it is also very easy to install.
I was planning on rooting the phone and looking into Rootbox jb 4.1.2. What I'm currently looking for is a decent jelly bean rom and rootbox seemed like a good choice. As I understood installing rootbox on a phone with CF-Root shouldn't pose any problems?
Another one I found interesting is WanamLite. Any suggestions in terms of which jb rom for everyday use would be the safest choice for a newbie like me would be greatly appreciated.
You have try them yourself, that's the best way to see what fits you the most.
EDIT: But i'd go with WanamLite because I don't like PA (ParanoidAndroid) based roms like Rootbox.
There are various ways to root using .zip or .tar files, its just what you fancy.
Im happy using GB for now......but I'll give stock JB a try when its out for UK.

I've updated two phones today but they were both stock so I don't know yet. Still early going so I have no real feedback as of yet.
My biggest question is can I upgrade all my 2.3.x phones to this over the air, or will I have to hack 4.0 on there first anyway? I literally spent hours upgrading 5 S2s to 4.0.3 two days ago seeing as there was no other way. Then I see this today. Ah well, better late than never I guess. I have 4 s2 devices to get to 4.0 anyway I can so I'm hoping I can just call the users and tell them to do it over the air.

Back on Topic, I tried the update this evening on my rooted stock ICS S2 (replacement came with 4.0.1 on it from AT$T). Of course, it failed. I'm sure it is because I uninstalled some system app. I didn't note which ones I got rid of. Does anyone have a list or link to a list of the apps that came with the phone originally? I want to reinstall them so I can update. Thanks!
