cyanogenmod seems to be the best kernel , at least for samsung phones!!

I have a ATT Samsung GII and currently have it rooted fine. Sadly, every one is changing all the roms to ICS and I am currently forced to use a specific application for billing my miles to work that does not run at all on ICS.
I would try to talk to the developers of that app to see if they could just recompile it for ICS but now that they have the app booming on the iPhone they have pretty much dropped any support for Android.
Right now I am downloading the Android SDK so that I might be able to run this app in the SDK on my laptop.
My questions:
1. Is the Android SDK the only way I can run an Android emulator to run this app?
2. Is there a good place on XDA (or some where else) where I could list out the features I need in a specific application and other people could suggest apps that match the requirements? There are many pay for apps that sound like they would work for me but 15 minutes is not long enough to test the apps out before I cannot get a refund.

Hi...
I am a newbie around here. I want to try some clockwork recovery with my old huawei C8500. I already installed the rom manager v4.4.0.7. But it says I have to install clockwork recovery first. So when I click yes, then it ask for my phone model. But, I can't find my phone. Its have like huawei U series and some other phone models. But not my C8500. Can you tell me how to download it and explain what CWM and how it works and a lil detail for some walkthroughs for how to use CWM? Really thanks for any good answers. Thx

Overclocking Xperia Play

haven't seen any thread about this. someone already tried setcpu on the arc how about the play?
i want to overclock my unit cause most of the psx games (ie castlevania) tends to be slow and the framerate drops significantly even if it's fixed at 30 fps.
so no one seems to be interested in overclocking the xplay?
i guess when its been out longer ill wont an overclock but i haven't had any slow down as yet well after getting rid of the rubbish that was on there "bloat"
i would rather a recovery menu first ha ha if were wishing here..
but we need a custom kernel first i believe before an overclock
You'll need someone to cook up a custom kernel to OC the play or someone to make a script that runs it without a custom kernel. Had this on my HTC desire hd before I rooted/unlocked the bootloader and flashed a custom kernel that could OC.
The first option will need a unlocked bootloader and the latter will just need root (if possible with the play).
Setcpu should be able to underclock as it is now, but that wont help with your gaming issues.
Regards Dousan...
No need for unlcoked bootloader just need root and someone to cook up a kernel module to work with set CPU. It's a standard qualcom 8250 shouldn't be to hard. Contact the developer of setcpu on twitter or by email

What were the apps that you removed? I might just do this while waiting for an oc. And were there any signifcant changes in terms of the unit's speed.

why ?
We need the sources of the xplay to create own kernels - at least to create one without minor bugs

Hey guys, i'm new to the play forum although ive been around for a while lol anyway just to clarify some points.
yes with the sony kernel source code we can make custom kernels, but without an unlocked bootloader we cannot flash unsigned images.. i only got my play 2day so i am unsure of what can or cannot be done, does the play have nand protection? if not and we can create and flash a custom recovery image, then an unlocked bootloader should not be nessesary. android has full R/W access by default to all the partitions while in recovery mode, so we should be able to flash things roms/kernels/ect. maybe someone should email clockworkmod and ask if they are or intend to work on a custom recovery

[Q] Some clarification and Assistance needed please...

OK so I'm really sorry if this has been discussed before but I've searched around and really found nothing that makes any sense to me. A bit about me, I'm a software developer and I'm trying to get into this rom building etc deal but the more I read about it the more complex it gets so I need a few things clarified for me.
From my understanding the rom is the os itself and the baseband is some sort of interface between hardware and the os??
What is the purpose of the kernel? how can I flash the kernel? Is it possible to only flash the kernel? is there away to go back to stock kernel and how?
I tried using some "stock" kernels in a few thread then slapped on the latest MIUI IRIS 1.5 rom with bb52 and no radio or wifi, assuming bad kernel?
Where and how would I be able to get the source code to get started developing myself?
Again really sorry for the n00b questions, but I did do searches for several days and spent hours on this site, maybe just not asking the right questions. All help and advice is greatly appreciated and hopefully I can start helping out soon.

Yes phone is rooted and been playing around with a few different roms already, although I may have just bricked my phone, can't even get into xRecovery anymore . Never installed busybox though, have no idea what its used for but I'll get on that as soon as I can get it to boot again. Thanks
Use seus to repair your phone. That is Sony Ericsson software.
If that doesnt work, try flashtool

The original purpose of this thread is to get me started on possibly developing my own roms. Like where do I get the source code? what language is this written in, is it C, C++, or Java like the apps? what tools do I need to get started? etc.

The programing of creating ROMS themselves is out of my league big time. I can't help you in that department at all. I can though say to either put that question out in the Q and A or lastly, PM a developer here to at least get you some info. But the PM answer do come slowly since its on their personal time. Hope this helps.
He already posted in q&a... This thread! But changing the title to "How do I get started building roms?" or something similar will get you more & better answers.
Search XDA for "Rom kitchen" or "cooking roms". If you search "Xperia kitchen" I think there is a thread where you can download the programs and resources for your workspace. Look around in android development for useful threads & stickies too.
That's all i got lol, hope it helps

Sir, you can change wallpaper by long tapping on home sceen, a menu will pop up , select wallpapers or gallery based on where your desired wallpaper is. I didn't get the colour stuff? If you mean that you want to change the ROM's colour then you cannot do that through a wallpaer, you need to download a theme which has the desired colors and apply the theme via Theme Manager
And yes, you can also change the wallpaper via settings menu

Hi,
I tried almost all ROMs in the development pages but I like the best ICS final with SlainModFast v2.5 with the new kernel(blackhawk - ketut). I had no reboots, no freezes no problems. I also run the JuiceDefender on balanced and improves the battery life. And I like the ADW launcher that is included in the ROM.(tried GO, Launcher Pro and some others).
I am a big fan of Grif's CM7 and Ketut's oc kernel... those guys deserves monies!

[Q] How to indentify all the info my phone?

Hi everyone
I tried to search forum but i dunno if there exits already this thread but i will explain here my details
I have samsung galaxy s2 at&t sgh-i777 cyanogen mod 7
The problem is when i receiv as gift from my father (he did buy at china) the phone wasnt original stock but prolly the china did flash cm7 and some kernel and govern (i think maybe is active for now ondemand if i can understand).
But i cant know which kernel is current using? how i can to see this info?
Searching forum many use AOKP, Fluxxi, Shostock and so on but my phone how i could know which one is using this kernel at moment? is there an app that i can see all system there? I tried using with Z device test but the information android OS is not enough.
I have to flash cm9 soon but first i must know all the info before to start this.
For modems is easy to see i have to tap on info about device that ok...but i need a full information so will help me a lot.
Thank for support

Ya thought that but is just number not name kernel if that help lol
How i would figured it?
kernel current anyway is 2.6.35.7 [email protected]#1
If was a kernel for CM7 ok but using Fluxxi for example what is then? is based still cyanogen? or Fluxxi is just a name rom?
This give me a bit confuse..
I saw some topic talking about kernel for siyah but i still dont understand if was for cmw or is just a kernel different way to work with this phone.
For this i need understand what he did chinese update my phone and what current kernel..
EDIT= i found on site for AT&T http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/GalaxyS2ATT/kernels
So this mean there are only 3 kernels compatible on this SGH-I777 isnt?
If that so then i have to know which one of this 3 kernels is current on my phone hmmm someone could give me a hint please?
you are using the kernel that COMES PACKAGED WITH CM7
i dont know why you would go to some other website looking for info, when all you have to do is open up the dev section here and READ.
there are more than 3 kernels available to you, but not many options if you are staying on CM7. if you are staying on CM7, just leave the kernel alone...
you dont really need to know anything more about what you currently have on your phone, because its simple. you are running CM7 with the kernel that was packaged with the rom. any rom you flash will have a kernel with it...
you see kernel names and are confused, i get that, but if you open the dev section and read, you will see threads marked as [KERNEL] or [ROM]....pretty simple to distinguish the 2.
for CWM, with Samsung devices, all custom kernels have cwM packaged in them, you dont need to do anything else but flash the rom after following the instructions in the first post on the rom thread.

Take a snapshot of your "About phones" before and after flashing any custom ROM and you see the difference.
For more kernel detail, bring up "CPU Spy" and take a snapshot before and after, and compare.

all roms come packaged with a kernel so as long as you have CWM (you do because you are on CM7), then you can flash to CM9 without thinking about changing any kernels.

I didn't understand any of this lol. But are u trying to say an app developer told u that an app isn't compatible with your phone because of a custom ROM? If so that's crazy. And shouldn't affect anything. Normally when an app says its incompatible its because u changed the dpi. If u didn't, I would try clearing the data on Google framework and Google playstore.

Yes. There are threads on both. Do a Google search for clearing google framework and do one for clearing playstore data. If u don't know what DPI is u probably didn't change it. DPI is the resolution size for the display on the phone. (How big or small things look on the phone) Stock DPI is 240 for our phones.

The only way you will have an cm, I tried diffrent version and no one worked. Do u have an big sdcard? If so, go to the cwm and backup your rom. put it on a zip and send to the cyanogen mod crew, so they can port it.
My sd card is very small but i know someone knows how to make and mod roms because i know a little bit how it works but not much

I can port cm if someone can make the kernel compatible with cm we will have a custom ROM. It's easier to do then most of u think.
UPDATE: I will do needed edits in our stock kernel to get it to boot into cm10.2. However we will still need a proper kernel compiled to have it fully working. Doing it this way will break some functions but I will do my very best to fix bugs. I will get it to the stage of making calls SMS and data working then I will pass the ROM on to other developers to take over. That's best I can offer. Thanks
If you know any kernel developers please get them to PM me thanks

Hey mate, I've just got a Galaxy Trend Plus (GT-S7580) and I started to look for some custom ROMs, but I can't find much about it, do you know something about any development progress with custom ROMs for this device?
Thanks in advance!

I'm also interested in some CM ROM for this phone. Unfortunately it looks like no custom ROM is available yet. I'm afraid I have to learn how to create one
+1
Is there anybody who can port CM for this phone? I would very appreciate it. I own this phone so if there is someone willing to do this I am ready to help him if he will need something from the phone - files, etc. ( I do not actually know what is needed for porting the ROM.)
WE WANT CyanogenMod FOR Galaxy Trend Plus GT-S7580L

Unfortionally its not so easy
We must build from scratch without any compatible sources..
I have some friends ( @SeannyM @wulsic) who also ported cm to their device without any sources so i can ask their help when i start with it.
