Can't get latest Titanium Backup in CM7 (SOLVED) - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

I am using Veronica's CM7 mod on my NT but I am having issues with Titanium Backup. I purchased the full version and I want to remove some of the "bloatware" that's included in the ROM. This version of CM7 came with Titanium but it didn't allow me to remove apps. I tried updating to the latest version using the market but it didn't like that either. Finally I removed in included version using Root Uninstaller. I went back into the market, grabbed the latest version, but it just crashes immediately upon opening it.
This is my first successful day tinkering with NT roms/mods, am I missing something?

I'm using the SD card version of CM7 from Team B. Titanium works fine on that version.
Did you try running fix permissions and did you restore the folder to read only after removing the bloat. Those are the only thoughts I have.

Are you able to remove and freeze apps with that version?

I figured it out. There was a problem with the way it was reading my SD card. I removed the card, formatted it in FAT32 (again) and plugging it back into my NT.
Now when I start up Titanium Backup the Backup/Restore tab shows and everything works like normal. Woohoo!

Good. Glad it's working now. And yes to your question.

[Q] Help I deleted Google Talk and have no app mgr.

I rooted my phone to run froyo and delete seemingly useless apps. I deleted Google Talk and without it market doesnt work. I attempted to get Talk back with a system update and lost my app mgr and all other installed apps. I'm not sure if I backed up my phone properly because in recovery mode the phone says when trying to restore from nand that it cannot find the directory /sdcard/nandroid. The upside is, I have another broken screen droid eris with an untouched sd card. How do I safely swap sd cards and run the old software, do I need to unroot first? Is there an easier way to re-install google talk?
I'm not sure what system update you are talking about, but am hoping you didn't unroot it too. You can swap SD cards, that's not problem. If it was previously set up with apps2sd, then Froyo won't read it, but I feel that this is just your first time rooting, right? If so, no reason to worry. If you were using it, then you can still run the Nandroid from that SD card via Recovery, it will just give you a SD card error when you reboot (Froyo needs to have an unpartitioned card to use it properly). As far as installing Talk, you can get it here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9903887/Talk.apk - download this from your phone or via computer and drag/drop to SD card. Install another file manager like Astro/AndExplorer/Estrongs/whatever and install from SD card.
Easiest thing really is going to be just to flash a new rom or reinstall your other one. If you need to uninstall /system/apps I would recommend Titanium Backup. It will uninstall and not mess up everything else around it.
PS. Your other card will work fine too with no extra steps. Just plug and play.
Flash gapps through recovery. This will reinstall all the Google apps (like talk) on your phone.
Get them here:
http://www.multiupload.com/7DXJW5XB21
As always, be sure to nand backup and make sure the nand is good before messing with system apps.

[Q] CM7 RC1 upgrade issues and questions

I tried flashing the Rom yesterday and was successful. The issues I had revolve around restoring my apps. I used My Backup Root for stock to Froyo, but this time it seemed as though the apps were on the phone and the card, which cause an error stating that I didn't have enough memory. What should I have done to restore the apps to preserve the memory? I also received force close error for SetCPU, SlideIt (which I love), and a few others.
Also, what is the benefit of partitioning my sd card and does doing so erase it's current contents?
Lastly, are the nightlies a full rom or just part that needs to be flashed? If found some on CMs website, but not here.?
Yes, I'm a NOOB.

Regarding your nightly question, they are full ROMs...the difference between them is the code that was committed within the previous 24 hours. Of course that also means that, in theory, some of the nightlies could be 100% the same...anyway, the nightlies can be a beautiful thing or a disasterous thing...usually if there's an issue with a nightly it is quickly found by those who flash each nightly and it is brought up around 3.2 million times and it is typically fixed by the next nightly.
Partitioning usually does mean a wipe of data on the SD. Careful!
When I upgraded to a 32GB flash from the stock 2GB from my Aria, I backed up the entire contents and restored on the new one. Apparently there is volume information stored somewhere (not sure where) and the phone couldn't recognize the card and asked me to partition it.
Because I had a backup, I decided to do so, but instead of partitioning for the entire size of the chip, it partitioned only 2GB!
So I had to stick it into a reader and repartition it manually and then selectively restore music, etc back on the card.
After that it worked just fine. So short version: yes it does.

You will need to creaate an sd-ext partition to fix the issue of installing (larger) apps with CM7.
The best way would be through ROM Manager.
wifi
Installed the RC2 and can't connect to a hidden SSID wifi network.
That is a known issue with the wifi driver on cm7 thus far. Not sure if it will be corrected though. Anyone else know if it is in the works?

I believe if you flash to nightly 14 all will be good, not 100% sure though.

Great input from everyone. Thanks! Following up on the sd-card partitioning... I have a new 8g card and want to more to CM7. If I partition it, what happens when I restore the backed up app using My Backup Root? And, what is the best partition configuration, why, and what info get store in each section (ext)?
Thanks...

The easiest way to partition is using your ROM manager.
Just select the max size for SD-EXT (I think it would got to 512MB), and none for swap.
I'm not sure if this would have any effect on your backup - I myself started out from scratch and got my apps from the market even though I had made an Astro backup...
You will store all your stuff - music, pictures etc in the normal partition. The SD-EXT will be automatically handled by the phone.
Tried flashing Nightly 22 on my Aria from 17. I spent a lot of time customizing 17. Is there a way to keep all of the old home screens? Also, GPS lock isn't working for me. Using MyBackup Root for Apps, but it seems to duplicate the apps?

You should be able to flash each new nightly without losing any of your settings/customizations/homescreens and apps.
While upgrading from ROM manager, just check the backup option, don't check wipe data and cache.
I can confirm this works transitioning from 14 to 22 because I just did it yesterday night
As for the GPS problem, thats a known issue - the workaround is to make a nandroid backup of your current cm7, then do a complete phone reset, then do a nandroid restore of cm6 or 6.1 (hope you have one), do another factory reset, and restore your cm7 from the backup you took in the 1st step

first of all, i would never suggest using rom manager for things such as that. historically it has only caused problems and has been more of an inconvenience than anything. second of all, when you boot into CWM and do it the right way, don't wipe data, it's suggested but not necessary that you wipe cache and dalvik, then flash the rom and you'll be good.
Thanks to both of you. Big help and not deleting the data did the trick. Looks like I'm good to go and GPS is working well again. Is there a way to ensure I don't have duplicate apps taking up space on the card and phone? I'm getting errors on moving some apps to the sd card.

Not all apps can be moved to the FAT32 partition on the SD card. Widgets also, won't work properly if moved to the SD FAT32.
If you need more memory, look into (read up) partitioning your sd card with a ext3 partition and installing S2E or Dark Tremor a2sd (DT a2sd).

Oh, I had no idea about that, thanks for the info.
I've been using ROM manager without any problems so far, apart from one lately, that when I reboot to recovery, I always get an error screen - exclamation mark in triangle...but I just pull the battery and reboot into recovery manually and it starts whatever command I had given it (backup/new rom) automatically...

[Q] ROM Manager newbie question

When I run ROM Manager, I see an option that allows me to backup my current ROM. Does that backup include apps and data? I have Titanium Backup and use it, but I'm curious about this ROM Manager feature.
Thanks for any insights! I'm on a learning curve here, but enjoying it very much.
Yes. That backup is a bit image of everything. If you were to completely crash restoring that would put you right back where you are now.
Thanks for your reply! Right now, I'm running B&N's 1.2 with Manual Nooter 4.5.6. I want to compare it with CM7, so I want to get all my backup ducks lined up in a row before I go any further.
I used verygreen's installer to put CM7 on a microsd card, but the only card I had available is a PNY. It works okay, but some apps are a bit pokey, especially the Nook app. That could be the card. (Would a SanDisk card help?) But I have noticed that some apps that I have on my Fascinate (that runs Froyo) are supposedly not compatible (according to Market) with my rooted NC Froyo. But those same apps show up in the CM7 Market.
So, I'll probably get a SanDisk card and see if that helps some things (especially the Nook app). I might try flashing CM7 to internal. Anyway, I'll have my backups lined up, and I'll scan these forums for more info.
Thanks again!

Titanium Headache

Titanium has been giving me problems for awhile. I haven't flashed anything for a couple months so it hasn't been a big deal, but today when I upgraded the firmware and wound up with some "issues", I really needed to be able to let Titanium do its thing and restore my stuff back like usual. No go.
I'm talking with the TB development people, but in case any of you masters out there have run across this, I thought I'd share.
After a new flash, TB doesn't access my backups. It sees them; they are all crossed out and the summary says I have none to restore. I can tap one and it opens up, but all of the boxes are grayed out. (See pic). Then, if I re-download the app from the store and install it, TB will access it and allow me to restore data only.
So in order to "restore" my apps, I have to download them one at a time from the market first. Any ideas?
I'd force close TB, move the files to a new folder, configure TB to use the new folder

Strange, I have never had a ROM flash wipe my internal sd card. That's where my TiB backups are stored. The only time it got wiped was from the s-off procedure and a radio update.

Personally, even though I paid for Titanium BU Pro a few years ago I don't even bother installing it anymore.
All I use now is AppMonster Pro & I never get the errors/FC's etc. that TBU users experience on a regular basis......

Well it doesn't really wipe the whole SD card, but clears key folders. I store my backups on my external card and then also back them up to my computer. Just in case...
I had the same issue at first. Moved my backups from internal to external sd. Used dropbox to upload and sync to a folder on my account. When flashing a new ROM I just download TiBu, open it up, make sure the directory is right and then open the menu, hit the reload titanium option and after that hit the menu again and hit the refresh apps button. Works for me every time.

didn't think either of these restored app data though. That is why people use titanium.
I know I had problems with it earlier this year, but it seems to get updated every week here lately and no problems at all. I switched my backup folder to the sd card and it restores apps and data no problem.
I just flashed Venesaur, and I haven't had an issue with TiBu.
In fact, I don't think I've ever had an issue with it. Except when I didn't know how to do something.

[Q] extsdcard all files readonly after 4.1.2, please help

Hi,
I re-flashed my phone yesterday to the official 4.1.2 ROM (Spain), this was on Paranoid Android before, did a full wipe etc. All seems okay, rooted it, but the external SD card is read only, all files are marked as R, suspect this is also why titanium backup hangs restoring my apps. Never had any problems like this before and I can't find anything to fix this, it's driving me mad. Can anyone suggest a fix,
Thanks,
I managed to fix this with root explorer by re-mounting as r/w. titanium backup still hangs though

Hi, mines okay now following using root explorer. I installed and older version of TiBu from their website and it worked fine, this it was v 5.7 or something. Also I raised a support call and they suggested changing the app processing mode, haven't tried this as the older version worked so I'm going to stick with it.
Same problem here.
Apparently it is only in adb shell and only if I am not root. Apps and Terminal app can access without problems.
