Ford Sync - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can someone who has the S3 and a Ford test it out with Ford Sync? How well does it work? Do text messages work (from what I read, certain android phones support certain bluetooth profiles)?
Much appreciated

I think I remember reading a post from someone who had a Galaxy Note that said their text messaging worked or it on the Ford SYNC product. I am assuming it I'll work with the S3 also.
I ordered the intl. version from Newegg and it says it ships on 6/6. I will let you know when I receive it if it works with the Ford Sync (hopefully a few days after the 6th).

That would be awesome if you could let me know! I ask because the Galaxy S didn't work with it (for Text Messages).

Ok.. Got the Intl. S3 and here's what I have found:
I have the F-150 with the Ford Sync Gen1 system, so no MyFord Touch screen.
Text messaging works fine, phone book works fine, bluetooth streaming audio works great; better in fact than the USB media playing (see below).
The USB music part is really frustrating -- make sure you put the music on the Internal SD card. My Ford Sync wouldn't see the music on the external SD card for some reason..
Even with the music on the internal SD card, I had to do a master reset on the Ford Sync system to get it to re-index..
I remember having a lot of problems when I had the Galaxy Nexus, as it too used MTP for the media transfer and not regular USB folder access like the HTC/Motorola phones..

Dunno if it helps but I have a 2006 Ford Mondeo ST and my S3 paired with the factory fit Sony headunit no problem.

Thank you SO much for testing it out! I really appreciate it!

Any updates on this? Thinking about getting a Ford but if it doesn't work well with the S3, forget about it!

i heard it have exchange support
personally i use a sony LCD with hdmi output/input works better for me. even touch works

I have att, s3 (latest update), 2010 ford flex w/nav (latest update) everything works except texting

X10a bluetooth issues

Hi So i bought the x10A to get ride of my Iphone, now i love this phone but
i have issues, with bluetooth i have a kenwood deck dnx6160 when i pair,
it does not pair my phonebook, now is there away to get this to work by maybe using a diff rom or something or debranding the phone
thanks
My phonebook doesn't show up either when I pair my phone. I have a jvc unit. However, bluetooth streaming works fine but the names of the songs don't display.. it states unknown when playing. I think this is just a phone issue, not sure. Anyone else have the phonebook working?
You might need to update the blue tooth firmware. I was thinking about using the DNX6140 bluetooth firmware on my DNX6160 just to see if the damn thing will do A2DP and SMS. Since DNX6140 has all the features that I would assume the 6160 would have. If it fails, I will update to 3.80
I have a G1 and a Galaxy Tab. Both grayed out phoning options right after I hang up. I chose this unit over Pioneer AVIC-920BT just b/c of Garmin nav I should have just installed a iPad or an Android Tab with GPS

[REQUEST][DEV] Remote Sim Access Profile (rSAP) - bluetooth

Hi all,
We all know that rSAP is not supported by Android
Those with carkits (VW, Audi, etc) with this profile cannot use their Android phone. A massive disappointment.
What will it take to get someone write some code to get this bluetooth profile to work on - for starters - the basic Froyo code for Nexus?
I'd be happy to kick off a project with a $150 donation or an HTC Hero (such as for testing).
Assuming we can get more people together who are interested in this (I am positive!), the big question remains - who would be able to write the required code?

In Android issue 4402 (not permitted to post outside links, just go to the google code page and search for 4402) about the rSap profile some people are reporting that the Samsung Galaxy S (I9000) does have the rSap profile and does successfully connect to VW/Audi premium carkits.
In the Galaxy S forums are some roms (including a MCR rom for the Galaxy S) ... so there might be some possibility to port some code from the Galaxy S to the Nexus One

Thanks, I found it and repeated my post there as well.
I really hope that someone can come up with something. Surely, as you say it works on the Galaxy S, one must be able to get this to work on the Nexus One, or any other Android phone for that matter.
Hoping to see some more replies here! Or maybe a recommendation of a programmer who might be able to do this.
Cheers, MC
Hi, I have the RSAP working on an Samsung galaxy i9000 wich my Audi built in car phone. The only hing bugging is the sync of phonebok. It synces alright, but with phone conacts only. It took me a while to realize that phone conacts and my primarily used exchange contact list are two different things in this setting. First I had believed it synces only sim contacts. While this is not the problem, I have not found a way yet to "replicate" the synced exchange contacts or map them to the phone phonebok from business contacts, wich would make them visible to the carphone via rSAP.
maybe someone here knows a solution or an app that would solve this? The rSAP itself works, as Samsung has implemented it into the Galaxy i9000.

I will exceed the OP's donation and donate $151 who ever manages to crack the rSAP on Android. Samsing just made the sourcecode (search: Samsung releases Captivate source code) so there seems to also be a ZIP file for the GT-I9000 (European Samsung Galaxy S).
I am stuck with TouchHD for my VW PremiumGSM, and would love to get an Android.
Cheers and keep it up devs!!
+1!
plz, an app for rsap on n1!
Android on GSM... maybe, but limited; CDMA not likely
According to a post 4402, "rSAP allows different devices to connect to your mobile's SIM Card to read your contacts etc. The car than uses its own antenna and gsm Module to call. The mobile phone goes in a stand by mode which needs very low energy."
If this is true, then your rSAP-bluetooth connection is actually hijacking your sim card ID and using it to place calls and receive calls through the car's integrated GSM radio, and not actually synching as it seems. In this case (in the US), there is no Verizon or Sprint fix because neither network uses SIM card (chip based ID profiles) technology, and furthermore, both their networks are CDMA and therefore incompatible with Bentley, VW and Audi GSM modules. If the connection could be bridged, the car's GSM radio would be seeking access to a network the CDMA user is not subscribed to.
So the definitive end is that as long as you have a VAG auto, you better have an rSAP GSM phone to use with it.
Ironically, Apple iPhones are GSM and they have had a longstanding good relationship with VAG, so I am surprised to find them boxed out of compatibility with Audi and VW especially. I am not certain, but it could have something to do with Apple's unique provisioning architecture is as much as they do not have a readily accessible SIM card (or battery), and in doing so, they are not respecting the need for SIM portability.
When I worked at a multi-carrier mobile phone reseller years ago, I briefly had a SIM-card based phone that I could then take the SIM card from and insert it into any GSM phone (from the same carrier) and use that phone to place and receive calls. This same migration can be effected in CDMA technology, but only through over-the-air provisioning, and that process is not as immediate as the rSAP SIM takeover process seems to be.
I'll keep looking into this matter, but perhaps the upgrade we should be barking for is to have VAG integrate support for the same bluetooth profile (HFP) that BMW does. BMWs from 2007 on with bluetooth will connect to my Droid X all day. rSAP just overtakes your SIM id and uses it to place and receive calls on the car's GSM radio. Of course it also can access a portion of your Address Book, but after that, you are stuck with the features offered in your car's radio and no longer have full utility of your Droid phone features and apps, etc. As a result, Google Voice search will be a non-starter for Android rSAP unless the car's GSM radio is actually running Android OS as well. And how likely is that...
maybe this could help?

Rsap works..but no Bluetooth audio
Hi,
I got my I9000 working on my Premium Bluetooth in my VW Passat. However I cannot figure out how to get the Bluetooth Audio (in the Media Secion of the car display) working. I have enabled it in settings in the car. AUX works, SD-card works.. but bluetooth audio I just cannot figure out.
Does any1 know?
I have a NTG1 Comand in my Mercedes, and the rSAP conection works like charme, with the SGS(2.2.1 jpy).
Only thing that not works is the PBAP so only my sim card contacs r listed!

Hi, Bluetooth Audio works exactly as it works with bluetooth headset: you need to launch a music player on the phone and then the audio will be transfered to your car's speakers. I just got my new VW Touran and SGS works almost fine with it (having troubles with the contacts with emails, which are not synced to the car). I think I'm going to get an SDHC card for my music (Media-IN works great with a usb drive).
Cheers

BMW & SGS2: Can you sync your contacts over bluetooth to your BMW?

Can you sync your contacts over bluetooth to your BMW?
I am a (soon to be ex) Evo 3D owner and HTC screwed up this feature when they upgraded all their phones to Bluetooth 3.0.
I'm thinking seriously of dumping the Evo 3D but need to know if this feature works with the Galaxy S II.
As BMW owners know, you can sync your contacts to your BMW vie bluetooth and initiate phone calls from the directory on the iDrive screen. This is a lot easier than trying to mess with your phone's display while driving. However, this feature was lost with HTC's bluetooth 3.0 update.
Anyone with SGS2 and a BMW who can confirm that this works on their car?
Also, if it does work, what year is your BMW?
I have a 2010 335i and the SGS2 syncs contacts perfectly. But not the other "office" options (I think that only works with Blackberries).
Cool thanks, that gives me hope!
318 from 12/08 with Navi Professional.
I get all numbers from my contacts into my car but no address data. Very annoying cause you cannot use your navi comfortably.
With my old WM6.1 HTC Touch Pro it worked like a breeze.
I hope there will be a fix soon. Bluetooth is just crappy in the SGS2. It's got problems with pairing with my PC, too. It gets paired but sharing files via BT is impossible. The device manager shows me that drivers are missing.

SGS functioned perfectly with contacts sync on my BMW 325i 2006 iDrive, upgraded to SGS2 which wont even pair, giving an error message "pairing rejected by BMW####".
upgrading the firmware to XXKG1 didn't solve the issue, am gonna see if i can update the idrive's version and post back if resolved

Perhaps it's time to upgrade your car
I re-checked on my 2010 professional navi and contacts are fully sync'ed; even addresses.
I further investigated about bluetooth and indeed android (linux in general) implementation is quite limited. Beyond the basic audio, agenda and stereo audio (which also works in the BMW), BMW Teleservices require DUN (dial up networking) which worked on my old Windows Mobile 6 device but not on the SGS2 and BMW office requires MAP (message access profile) which is not available in android.
And though A2DP streams audio to the car, there is no information on what is playing, nor cover art.
Maybe some xda developer will be so kind as to develop these profiles. I would gladly pay to have my phone fully connected to my car.
I have 2010 3 series with iDrive. Phonebook syncs flawlessly and handsfree works great. Can't get audio streaming to work though, the phone starts playback but I hear no audio. The display is telling me 'Please Wait'.
BMW Mini Cooper with Mini Boost audio system - all contacts synced properly.
It has no A2DP audio so I can't test that and it doesn't have a satnav so addresses deff do not sync.
ok... i see a lot of people here do not know what kind of iDrive system you have and hence making it hard for others to judge. i know this is old but i am running into issues with my CCC based iDrive and my JB based Samsung galaxy s2
Please post Year, make, model and type of iDrive or BT OEM equipment you might have...
2007 BMW 335i with CCC iDrive
SGS2 with 4.1.2 JB
Just an quick FYI
CCC iDrive was the first idrive that was placed on the market and believe it runs from 2006 till 2008
CIC iDrive was the second get and it runs from 2009 -2012
CIC High iDrive is the current one 2013 and on...
Have
SGSII with 4.2.2 Slimbean and dorimanx 9.34
X3 CIC I-drive 2011
Contacts with adresses and pictures work fine also SMS and callhistory
Audiostreaming working but no audioinformation transmitted ( Issue of ROM/Kernel )

[Q] Is the Bluetooth MAP Profile in ICS rom (Stock or Mod)?

Hello Everyone!
I just purchased a Galaxy S2 i9100 to replace my iPhone 4. I must say this is an impressive device, and I have used them all since 2001 (Blackberry pager and converged, Treos, WiMos, etc, etc). My latest phone, an iPhone 4, was purchased to integrate media with my Pioneer radio. However, I have bought a new Ford with the Sync system. The iPhone doesn't quite use all of the functionality that the Ford Sync has to offer (mainly text integration).
My i9100 came with Gingerbread 2.3.4. Texting worked perfectly with the car but not media playback through USB. I have flashed several ROMs in search of that "perfect" one that does everything (USB media playback WITHOUT turning off Bluetooth, Pandora via Bluetooth, text alerts) but can't seem to find it. The latest CM9 comes close but no Bluetooth MAP.
Does anyone know if any of the Ice Cream Sandwich ROMs (stock or mod) include USB mass storage and BT at the same time and the Bluetooth MAP Profile? Thanks in advance for any and all advice, help, thoughts!!
same thing here ...
On my SGS2 with GIngerbread, I used to get bluetooth with MAP, so I could easily pair my HP Touchpad with my SGS2, and send/receive all my sms from touchpad ...
Now after having loaded ICS 4.0.4 ROMs, I no more find any 'Advanced' setting under bluetooth options. :-(
hope someone can guide.
In order to use USB media and Pandora over Blutooth - you need to have Pandora installed on "local" storage. You lose SD card access to applications when it becomes a "USB HDD".. And yes, I'm thinking about going back to Gingerbread and CM7 on my Rezound, in order to get my functionality back I had with Sync. My Thunderbolt connected very nicely, and would send song titles over blutooth?? POUT This is a few steps backward, not forward..
I have the GSIII and loaded the Sprint release of JB, the MAP profile is enabled but I noticed one potential gotcha. When you initially pair a prompt comes up on the phone asking if you want to enable MAP, also there is a checkbox to say never ask again. If I do not check it but click enable, then MAP works for that session only. Next time I connect, I get no prompt and no ability to see my text messages. You need to reset and re-pair.

Phonebook will not load to car handsfree

To the sages,
I am trying to pair with handsfree in 2006 Z4 M Coupe Nav. It will show paired on phone and I respond to request on phone to transfer phonebook to car unit. The car will show phonebook loading but it never loads. In this state calls cannot be initiated from car. I tried repairing but same issue. My prior phone, Samsung epic 4g touch paired and loaded phonebook without any problem. Anyone else with this problem or solution? My other car, 2012 Subaru STi pairs and loads phonebook without any problem.
Thanks,
Doc
Edit: I am rooted but stock ROM.
I have had no issues on my 2012 Passat with the phone book, wonder if your older car and the newer phone are using a different protocol for some reason that is causing it to misbehave.
My 2011 f-150 loaded the phone book fine.
My phone paired fine with my 2005 Audi A4 as well as my 2011 BMW 328I XDrive. My phone never prompts me to load a phonebook it just does it automatically. Maybe it's something in the settings that you're missing. However, my boy's father has a 2006 BMW X3 and he had to buy a separate piece from BMW in order for his Android phone to pair with his SUV. I think he has a Samsung Galaxy S II for T-Mobile. You might wanna call them and see if you too need this extra piece in order for the phone to work with your car.
In mini I heard it meses up so I didn't load the phone book. Although my og EVO could use the phone book.
Nice ride I used to have a e36/8 m coupe.
Sent from my EVO using XDA
2011 Hyundai Sonata is a hit or miss. Phone asks me if I should allow access to phone book and I did. Incoming phonecalls show up as numbers. Outgoing sometimes as names, and sometimes as numbers. Call log mostly names.
To all-thanks for the ideas/replies. I will see if BMW can help me out. I did check a link from Google that was to check for software update and returned no update is available.
Thanks again,
Doc
