[Q] One day in pocket = demolished screen protector... good screen protectors? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

So, I just got the phone this past weekend when it came out. Today was its first day to go with me to work, and the screen protector faired poorly. There are two "permanent smudges" from rubbing, and many, many, MANY scratches all over it. I have no idea how this happens from just sitting in my pocket, unless there's dirt and dust rubbing against it causing the damage.
So after one-day, the Sprint-store screen protector is trashed.
Any phone pocket'ers have any suggestions as to screen protection?
The "Body glove" case faired OK, so at least the back-side is ok!
I once had an "SGP" screen protector on the Evo Shift, and it was good and a little more resilient, but it still ended up with smudges and scratches from riding in my pocket.
I would just use the "Gorilla Glass" screen but the the "permanent smudge" pocket wear marks would be on the screen instead of a screen protector!

I haven't used a screen protector since my Evo 4G. I used two different kinds and I don't even remember what they were. I actually stopped using the second one because I didn't feel like I could swipe my finger across the screen smoothly enough. I actually broke my 4G by throwing it at a wall. The screen didn't crack, but it no longer worked. That little fit of rage assuaged any concerns I had about the screen ever breaking.

Zagg screen protector. Get the "HD" one-can't even tell it's there. Lifetime warranty. totally worth it. I gave used them on all my devices for years.
Edit: they are guaranteed not to be scratch-even by keys!

I don't recommend the zagg shields they get orange XO is good but feel rubbery too, is hard to find a perfect screen protector but don't buy sprint one they completely suck

2nd Recommendation for a Zagg Invisibleshield HD. They are amazing and you can't tell they are there. They have a lifetime warranty in case they peel or start to turn orange, feel like glass not rubbery at all, and are amazing. I have one on my Kindle Fire too.

I just looked up the Zagg InvisibleShield and that's the second screen protector I had on my original Evo. I didn't really like it. It covered the whole screen and offered great protection, but I hated the way it felt. Having gone about a year without any kind of screen protection, I must say I prefer a naked screen to a protected one.
A buddy of mine had an OtterBox Defender for his Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket and eventually got tired of having the screen protector.
It's your prerogative to have a screen protector. I can vouch for Zagg's reliability and protection, but it gives an orange peel effect and makes swiping your finger across the screen more work. Having dropped my phone on various surfaces and throwing one across the room at a wall, I don't think these screens really need protecting.

You had the orig Zagg not the new HD ones. The new ones rock even compared to the older ones.
Will

I will personally never use another screen protector after launching my phone into a wall and picking it up to see it was not cracked. The screen no longer worked, but a screen protector would have done nothing to change that. I would rather invest my money in a case that will protect other parts of the phone that aren't quite as indestructible.

It sounds like the Zagg screen protectors are still the best. I was hoping to find a dry screen protector, but I guess they still haven't made any of them. But I did want to ask a stupid question about the Zagg screen protectors. Above people where talking about an HD version of Zagg screen protectors. Is that the same as the link below, because I don't see the words HD on the page, that said I saw it all over their main page, so it might just be that all their screen protectors are this HD version now. Is that correct, and is this the link everyone is talking about?
http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/htc-evo-4g-lte-cases-screen-protectors-covers-skins-shields.php

The HD version is sold exclusively by Best Buy right now. So it's not on their site.

Check out the XO Screen Protectors.

I also am with the Zagg HD. I like it, is very clear, and very thin. you'll hardly notice it.

Haha what in the world happens in your pockets? I've had the Sprint screen protector on my phone and in my pocket for two weeks and it is as good as ever. I've had people continually tell me that I need to put a screen protector on my phone because I'm going to mess up the screen... It's that clear and smooth! I typically don't like Sprint's accessories, but I love this thing so far! I had an Invisishield before and hated it. Maybe the HD ones are better, but I just can't bring myself to do it again.

Zagg HD all the way, can't even tell it's there

+1 on the zagg HD, just got it today at bby with their rocketfish softcase, gel case, installed for only $35. Had a 35 gift card so I didn't complain. Having had the original zagg case for a short while on my OG EVO and going to this new HD case I can definitely tell the difference, I much prefer this screen protector.

i would wait for an sgp screen protector. from what i hear they are the best of the best when it comes to screen protectors. i personally have never used a screen protector so i don't know first hand but none the less. also ive had my evo for about a year and a half and there is not one scratch on it so i don't think i will buy one for my lte when i get it in november

I maintain that these phones do not need screen protectors, but if a $15 purchase gives you peace of mind, go for it. I would rather put that money towards a case that protects parts of the phone that are far less indestructible.

I also put down the money for a Seidio active case as well as my Zagg HD screen protector. I don't go cheap on something so expensive to replace.

i know its not out yet but http://www.clear-coat.com is by far the best protector ive ever had for a phone hands down. the hands on demo on the front page is completely legit. things work no doubt.

Throw in another vote for Zagg HD....I too was a hater of screen protectors on a touch screen phone. Always ruined the touch.....I understand some of the haters out there...I was a strong hater of screen protectors.
This though is unbelievably good...like others have said, its like its not there.....feels like the glass. If you get one from best buy, have them install it....if you don't like the job they did they will put another one on at no charge until you are happy. Bubbles will work out after a few days....I have never been this happy about a screen protector.
Besides...you still have 30 days to return it if you decide you don't like it.

Is there a point for a screen protector?

Topic. Don't want to blow another 20 dollars if I dont need to. I heard gorilla glass is tough, so that's simply what i'm wondering. TIA
You don't need a $20 screen protector. Even the very cheapest clear screen protectors will work just fine. But you should definitely buy one unless you enjoy risking the screen being scratched.
Never had one on my EVO and I will never have one on my E3D. My EVO screen is in perfect condition. It really depends on how well you take care of your stuff. For me its a no.
I already have the Zagg on my EVO 3D screen and platinum case on it since yesterday. I have a 4 year old who loves to play with my phone. It's a must for me and it has saved me a couple of times. I replaced mine 2x from him messing with it. When i sold it yesterday, the screen was flawless.. It's just like big Zone said, it's how well you take care of it.
I never had one on my Evo. By the end, I had dropped it a couple of times, carried it in my pocket, etc, and it came out with only minor surface scratches that could only be seen in direct sunlight. So I won't be putting on on my 3D.
ive never had a screen protector on any of my recent phones.evo 4g, arrive, nexus s and now not evo 3d. But an employee at my store somehow managed to get a decent scratch dead in the middle of his. not sure how he thinks he had it in his pocket with a lighter. and he takes care of his stuff. so it is possible
i build scaffolding in a paper mill so a screen protector is a must for me as well as a defender case. i cant tell you how many times a screen protector has saved me from scratches.
You can get great deals on ebay...like 2 dollars for 6 of them.
Of course you need them. It never hurts to have it on there, have had them on all my phones. The one i have now has a couple scratches on it....i know the protectors are weaker than the screen glass but for two dollars why not slap one on there?
I posted an email from HTC in another post about Gorilla Glass.
It's not listed on Corning's site, and HTC says that it doesn't have Gorilla Glass.
Some people say that the email is wrong, but without anyone actually saying there is GG in the phone, I'm assuming that it doesn't have it.
Dear [name],
I appreciate your interest in some of new Android devices like the HTC Sensation 4G and the HTC EVO 3D. You were wondering about the availability of Gorilla glass in either of these new Android devices. Some of our devices come with screens made out of a proprietary formula of glass and some have Gorilla glass. Unfortunately, these devices are not in the list for Gorilla glass.

I know some people will argue it, but without anyone actually saying that it does (other than some review or another forum), I don't believe it.
So yes, a screen protector is a good idea. Even if you never need it, it's cheap and it's always nice to have just in-case something does happen.
Thunderbolt had gorilla glass and it scratched super easy. I would imagine just like anything, there are different qualities to gorilla glass. For instance HTC could have cut a deal for a lesser product for cheaper money.
I normally take care of my devices, never really had an issue, except 1 time I was careless and a tape gun thing went flying out of my hand(no idea how) and the blade smacked dead on the screen of my evo. It made a little bubble on my zagg shield, but I still think it would have put a nice big scratch on the screen itself. Just for the occasional f'up, i'm going to be getting a screen protector.
I have screen protectors. The first week I had my Evo 4G I was using the Sprint screen protector. The screen got several little scratches where the screen protector doesn't cover. I bought a full cover shortly after that.
I would carry my phone in my front pocket.

You don't know that. Most anything strong enough to scratch a full glass screen can peel off a screen cover while doing so.
I rarely use Screen protectors - but.. since i'm always an earlier adopter for the latest and greatest phones (yes, i did own and iphone4 at one point) friends and family always take it away from me and mess around. I'll keep a cheap protector on it for a couple months then remove it - and go naked.

$20? I really must start selling screen protectors to you if you are willing to pay that! They only cost about 20 cents in bulk, so some of these sellers have quite a markup! That said, I do think some of the places like Steinheil have a premium product.
Let me ask you this, have you ever seen an iPhone with a scratched screen? Those have gorilla glass too. It does scratch.
I have a clarvue screen protector on right now. Even though I take good care of my phone, a screen protector is cheap insurance. You can't even tell it is on.

This is what I have also, 2 for ~$11.00 from their site, iirc. I like it better than any of the others I've tried.
What is so special about Clarivue protectors compared to the cheap ones?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
no screen protector needed. You can literally take a razor to the screen and it will be fine. It takes a ton of force and something very very tough to scratch the screen. I do run a protector but not to protect but to give a matte finish which works wonders in sunlight and also makes your finger just glide across the screen. The Otter Box Defender has the perfect material screen built in for this.

buy a screen protector or not?

I bought a zaag screen cover and it has some ripples in it. I'm taking it back since BB put it on. My ? Is should I just return it and not get a screen protector or is it better to get one? The reason I'm wondering if it takes away the pretty screen. I'm sorry if this is a dumb ?
If it's like the Evo 4G screen, I wouldn't worry about a screen protector. I've had my Evo 4G since launch day, it's been dropped, drowned, and flung about my car in a rollover accident, and there's one tiny scratch near the top earpiece (not really even the screen) and another tiny, almost-invisible scratch on the screen. Evo glass is tough Some people have worse experiences with the glass than I have, but I'll take an 8 out of 10 screen after a year rather than murkying up that beautiful screen with a protector.
Get a cheap hard plastic screen protector. Can barely see it and work fine. Just learn to take the time and put it on correctly.
I went ahead and thanked both of you. Thank you for the quick responses
I always use screen protectors....but not the Zagg brand. You need the hard plastic kind like Clarvue (sp?). No adhesive or water to install. If applied correctly, you can't tell it is on. No orange peel look. No "sticky" feeling when touching the screen.
I don't like the Invisible shields, too sticky. But I always put on one of the clear ones. You can't tell it's on there, it doesn't smudge quite as much as the glass, and then I never worry about getting those micro scratches on it.
I got these off of Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0054ENAYU
$5 for 3. The shipping is $1 - I ordered on Friday and they showed up in my mailbox (as a first class letter) on Monday. Popped it on, no bubbles, easy peasy. And now I have that peace of mind that a piece of sand isn't going to get trapped next to my screen and start scratching it up.
I just use the WriteRight Universal Screen Protectors. Comes with a pack of 5 that I've now used for several devices without exhausting the pack.
Even with a lot of care, there will be a bubble or two. But once the backlight is on, any such flaws are INVISIBLE to me so who cares?
The Panamaniac
I had an Invisible Shield for about 3 days on my Evo... it peeled off, and I got a free replacement. That peeled off too. I stuck it to my desk at work and stopped messing with it. Not a single scratch on my OG Evo, but I am also one careful mfer... I dropped it maybe 3 times in the entire year I owned it. Once on the pavement and it got a slight abbrasion on one of the plastic corners of the device.
I had an InvisibleShield on m OG EVO and I ended up peeling it off. It made the screen too rubbery and really took away the feel of the touchscreen. I've never scratched my screen on my EVO or my new EVO 3D.
Def buy a screen protector. I didn't have one on my evo 4g and never had a problem and I got the evo 3d and it scratched so easily within the first two hours of owning it. Now because of the 3d screen i see a rainbow effect where the two scratches are. Be safe and get a screen protector. Hope this helps any
I'd definitely use one, just not a zagg. When I bought my otterbox for my Evo4g, it came with a screen protector and I loved it.
Zagg, and the rest that go on with solution suck balls. Feels like someone jizzed all on your screen. Ones like l c clarvue are the best. Also you can take them off, clean and reuse.
Sent from my 3rd Dimension of Evolution
havent had any trouble with the cheap ebay ones for both the OG evo and the 3d
I've never used a screen protector in my life, and I've never had scratches per say, just several complete shatterings which wouldn't have been stopped by a screen protector. I work outdoors most of the time, in "dangerous" conditions for a touchscreen and at the most it might get a little dirty and just needs to be wiped off. Until I manage to scratch one somehow, I'll never use one - then again I ALWAYS have it holstered if it isn't in use.
I have an anti-glare screen protector...dulls the screen a bit indoors (not enough to bother me) but I can also see the screen well in direct light.
Don't know what brand it is. When I got my 3D from BB they had some with these preinstalled and I took one of those.
While I cant say if its needed or not, I can say that I have always used one on touch screen phones and I have never had a scratched screen...better safe than sorry in my opinion.
I had a zagg shield on my Evo 4G for a while, but the damn thing would start to peel slightly around the edges from putting the phone in my pocket often. I ended up taking it off and used it without a protector. Having never used a phone without a protector I fell in love with the glass feel and have not used a screen protector since. I have insurance with BB and sprint so if I scratch or crack it, I'll just take it in for repair/replacement. Have not scratched the 4G since removing it.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using XDA Premium App
I recommend a screen protector based on the fact that almost nothing can scratch the glass, unless you really get some serious damage to it or some sand gets in your pocket. Honestly, I'm worried about the sand I suggest getting a cheap one or a cheap pack of 3 off of amazon. And don't do Zagg, I've heard so many complaints about it being "sticky". Good luck!
~ Jake
i used the one that came with the otterbox commuter....cant even tell its on there.
I got the anti glare/grease one from BB. It doesn't have the rubbery feel to it like the standard zagg ones. Costs a little more but it doesn't effect the view. Also like not having to wipe my phone after using it to talk on. Also had BB put it on. I had done one before and didn't get it on there correctly. I have no peeling. For every story you hear about how indestructible the glass is there is another story about how easily it was cracked/scratched.
Sent from my EVO 3D using tapatalk
I personally don't like Zagg. The feel of it just doesn't do it for me. I'm very fond of Sprint's screen protectors, exp the Anti-Glare. However I really want to see what the phone is like naked. I used screen protectors on my old EVO and finally decided to take it off and never had a scratch.
However, as everyone states, it all depends on how cautious you are about your belongings. I probably dropped the EVO less than 5 times, never had it in a pocket with keys, anything that could potentially scratch it.

Atrix, zagg shield or not?

For one, if you wanted to spend over $100 you could get a new glass screen and get it installed somehow. As far as getting protection then, I fully recommend it. Gorilla glass is NOT AT ALL as good as they say it is. My phone doesn't come into contact with razor blades and other crap it says it stands up against, but it does come in contact with minor pieces of lint in my pocket which somehow scratched this "impervious" screen...
As far as what type of protector...I didn't like Zagg or Ghost Armor or any of those stupid things. More expensive, more hassle than they're worth. I got I think a Splash Masque screen protector off Amazon or something. Something like that should do the trick. Not too hard to install w/o bubbles and I can't really tell it's there (feels normal, fits just fine).
zagg scratch guards are pathetic to use.
all rubbery feel with no smoothness unless you lube it
overpriced stuff that you cant through off because you overspent kind of feeling ..
get cheap clear screen protectors.. cost $2-5 over ebay for pack of 10 or something
I agree with the other two. Don't get a Zagg. I am currently using one and regret it. When I slide my finger to scroll or to play games, sad enough sometimes my fingers don't slide as smooth as opposed to some other screen protectors. Although I would say that it has saved my screen a couple of times. If your willing to spend the money on a Zagg and idk what your budget is like you could try out the otter box Commuter. Its isn't that bulky in my opinion and has a pretty good screen protector on it, with the bonus of protecting the phone itself.

I used a bodyguardz but didn't really like the feel of it and the proximity sensor wouldn't work right. Order some other cheap one off Amazon which feels a lot better but the proximity sensor still doesn't work right with it.
I can deal with the proximity sensor issue more than I could put up with a scratch in on my screen. Not sure if the zaggs interfere with the proximity sensor or not.

I use Zagg full body coverage, and I'm very happy with it. Yes, it feels rubbery.
But I'm looking the Splash Masque stuff, it's good to know a second opinion
I picked one up on Amazon called
Motorola Atrix 4G Crystal Clear Premium Screen Protector 2 Pack by REALOOK (AT&T)
I can't link since I'm a noobie poster. It's slightly spendy at 10.99 but has been great for me so far. Easy to put on with no bubbles, doesn't effect the usability of the screen either. By far the best screen protector I've used when compared to a few I've had on my iPhones.

Don't go the Zagg route.
First the invisible shields are a true PITA to install! (trust me it's a lot harder than a normal screen protector)
Second even if you get it installed correctly it feels rubbery weird.
Just go with the clear screen protector cheapies on eBay, and either a leather holster or a TPU clear case (depending if you pocket or not) and you'll be fine...
Im a huge fan of ghost armor. I like the look and feel of it. Yeah it sucks do pay $20 for the initial screen and service, but its $5 bucks after to replace it forever.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I went with Zagg myself, went in to the local store had them install it for 10 bucks. Just got it replaced, it does have a sort of grip to it on the screen that you have to get use to. Overall all I'm happy with the protection it's given my phone, usually after a couple months I'll start seeing scratches and stuff, I'm a little disappointed that I had to take it in to get the shield replaced today, but it was free save for the installation free so I'd say it was definitely a good investment for my device.

Galaxy Player 5.0 Screen Protector

I am wondering which ones you guys bought for your players (Obviously those screens are too nice to be scratched ). I got the Zagg Invisibleshield on their cyber Monday sale for $8
Same thing for me, same promotion. Now, I hate those Zagg guys.
But the important thing I guess is that the screen protector works well.
I bought a cheap ebay set, used for 2-3 weeks, removed. They scratched too easily. I like it bare! Have nice leather case, hopefully I won't scratch it... or good ones will become available.

After trying different types of screen protectors for my phone and tablet, I found that it is best to bare it. Screens produced these days are very tough actually, I don't have any scratches on any devices so far.
These days I only get screen protectors to deal with fingerprints... The Moshi screen protectors AT&T carries are great for this. Problem is that since the SGP5 isn't an AT&T phone, I don't get the usual 50% discount on accessories I get.
I had a ZAGG InvisibleShield on my Huawei S7, which was decent, and reminds me I need to eBay that piece of **** tablet. (Whatever you all do - don't buy Huawei products. They've improved build quality a lot, but customer support for their devices SUCKS.)
The SGP5 is a fingerprint/fingersmudge magnet.
I find there are fewer fingerprints bare than with a protector (at least the cheap ones). A bare screen also cleans much easier. I may try one of those matte anti-fingerprint ones. Bare is so smooth and responsive!

I got on my 2 Galaxy tabs Ghost Armor but on my 2 SGS II i got the Zagg but I will take it off and go with the Ghost Armor, I like it better!!
i got a skinomi screen protector and carbon fiber skin protector. the screen protector works pretty well, the skin is really just for a little more grip.
i had some issues with shipping, but, long story short, they had some great customer service, and they ended up shipping me two.
I have seen a lot of comments about Zagg that the screen protector feels rubbery or sticky to the touch. Is that correct? How about the ghost armor.
At this point, I have not put anything on. I like the look and touch of the screen, and I the only pocket that I would put my SGP 5 in is my shirt pocket. It has a folio case for traveling.
I would like to keep the screen protected, but just don't know what to use that I have not read bad comments about.
I have zagg on 2 of my devices and they were both a little sticky feeling for the first week or so, but as you use it, it irons out to a perfect smooth. I love Zagg and I'll get one for every device I own!

I got a Skinomi screen protector and wood skin for my Archos 70. The skin gave it better grip but after 6 months, the skins small pieces kept falling off. The screen protector though is great. Never coming loose. I had a couple scratches show up on it but after a few minutes they disappeared. Also the bare screen was a finger print magnet but once I go this screen protector on it was much better. Loved Skinomi screen protector so much I ordered one the for my Samsung 5 minutes after I ordered the device itself. Screen protector came before the device so I was able to put it on right away. Looks great, finger prints barely show up, never need to clean off the screen, never got any scratches showing up.

Supposedly the Zagg are made of the same material as the Skinomi. I noticed that it does have a little bit of a rubbery feel which doesn't bother me. It also did have a bit of a sticky feel, but that went away after a while. I thought maybe I got used to the sticky feel but I had one of these on my Archos tablet and the sticky feel went away, then when I got my Samsung and put a skinomi on that I felt the sticky again so it was not that I got use to the sticky feeling, it actually went away (The sticky feeling on my Samsung is now gone). I don't think I'll ever get another mobile device without getting a Skinomi screen (or ZAGG if they happen to be cheaper).
How is the quality, I want a protector for my SGP, too
I had a cheap Ebay one on it, but took it off because it got greasy way too fast. I like it bare, I'm not too worried about scratches. I tried scratching it with an exacto knife and it didn't scratch. I carry it around in this case which protects it very well: http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-...GEOQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1327694289&sr=8-1
I also have this case on the device, that gives it a good grip and additional protection.
I use an xtreemegaurd. I like it a lot! Easy to install, and I only have like one or two air bubbles, (not on the screen)
I bought a basic TPU
I bought 2 but I lost one, always good to have the film on it
any tips on how to remove bubbles on screen protectors? they're annoying
Remove protector is easiest way. I've been running bare for a month, no scratches yet! Otherwise if you are careful you should be able to get no bubbles. They are usually caused by lint or dust specks. You can try pealing back and using tape to remove the dust, then roll it back down. I have yet to find a protector that feels as good as the raw screen (which seems very durable)

I am using Stealth Shieldz. They are just like Zagg, but a lot cheaper and come with two. They are like 3 dollars on amazon. Absolutely no air bubbles. It is also a tad bit thinner than zagg I believe. It is a great screen protector. Lifetime warranty. So far so good.

Screen Protectors

i know i am in the minority being a fan of zagg, but it looks like they are gonna be making a screen protector

Cheap screen Protector in ebay
To day I found 5x screen protector in ebay just under 10 bucks.
I think it will be good and it is anti glare as well.
I want tempered glass

I let the Verizon salesman get me to buy their overpriced protectors (3 for $15...) I really don't like it. It's as wide as the screen, but long enough to cover the Verizon logo on top, and the softkeys on the bottom. It has cut outs for the camera and the light sensor.
What I don't like, is that despite the best efforts of the Verizon salesman (and he did try his hardest, there isn't a spec of dust under the cover) the edges don't stick. This is because the phone's glass curves to the edge. This leaves a tiny bit of the protector that isn't stuck down. Not only does this look bad, but it's also going to attract dust and pocket lint to get in there.
Furthermore, the screen protector also detracts from the aesthetics of the phone, it shows finger prints much more than the gorilla glass 2 does, and it adds a very slight color tint.
I think I'm going to remove it and just go without.
If you like Zagg then xtremeguard already has the DNA protectors available. Current sale means they are only 5 bucks a pop. I have used them before and was very pleased.
That is strange I got the Verizon screen protectors and don't have the issue ..however mine isn't edge to edge .. did he give you some type of aftermarket or does it have the droid stamp on it ..?

The Verizon protectors not covering the entire screen (not edge to edge, only the part that's illuminated) is a deal breaker for me. I'll just keep shopping around.
Also, I have nothing against Zagg. I've used Zagg on two devices and they held up great without any of the (noticeable) orange-peeling effect I've read about. My only big complaint with them is the outrageous price.

I am patiently waiting for sgp steinheil, and a decent sleeve.
screen protector
The ArmorSuit MilitaryShield Screen Protector is the best!
Are screen protectors even necessary? I owned my DROID X for 2 yrs without a screen protector and it looked as good as the day I bought it. That only had Gorilla Glass 1, it looks like Gorilla Glass 2 is supposed to be thinner is all, and I assume the same strength.
I am not for one going to put one on. Besides I love how silky smooth the screen is, and despise others with their sticky rough screen protectors.

Because of the curved edges the display has, I doubt there will be ones that will cover the whole thing, unless they come curved... I don't use screen protectors, but for those that do, that's most likely all you will get.
The more I use the phone, the more I'm thinking about just skipping the screen protector this time around. It seems pretty substantial on its own and the great, smooth feel is something I wouldn't want to lose (along with the clarity of the awesome screen, too).

Do any of you guys that don't have screen protectors on have any scratches yet? I know it is not supposed to scratch but that's not always the case. I currently have the Verizon one on mine.

Like I said above, I'm currently not using a protector and I have been shoving it in/pulling it out of my pockets and even dropped it on a wood floor (screen down) and no nicks or scratches...so far.

I just can't use screen protectors no matter what. Some of them have a haze foggy look to them, others feel a tad sticky, and sometimes I'll have the tiniest dust particle under the glass or just a small bubble around one of the edges. <<<---- Each, and everyone of these drive me nuts! Also the touch never feels the same, or as smooth. I don't know about most of you, but I'm very anal about my phones, and never had any glass damage, or scratches for that matter.
My final word.... GO NAKED!!!!!!

I work in construction sites a lot. And I use my flash light app a lot. I will sometimes lay my phone screen down above the ceiling. There is always metal shavings and chunks of cement up there and I do not have the smallest hint of a scratch on my screen. I have also dropped it on concrete and asphalt, still nothing.
I honestly think it is a sales gimmick.

I have a Gnex right now... went naked with that and it was a mistake. I have 2 or 3 small hairline scratches and I take pretty decent care of my phone. I dislike screen protectors but I dislike scratches even more.
i've had an old LG Xenon (text phone) i had a cheap case on it which i ended up destroying after repeated drops on concrete, I've even cracked the screen a little on the side with the case and screen protector on, but after all of that i went naked anticipating an upgrade, but i've dropped it off a 2nd story porch straight down onto concrete with screen face down and not even a scratch. I think that the screen itself will survive alot of impacts, it's the rest of the body (as well as the corner of the screen) that can't take the damage.
I'm going no screen protector, but will put a case on it once the one i want comes out. I dont believe it makes enough of a difference to counter the cons of it.
Hey people, just wanted to do my part and contribute.
Xtremeguards https://www.xtremeguard.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=droid+dna has the Droid DNA wet apply screen protector on sale for $1.50 (originally $15) with free shipping. Just enter in code "70OFF1" at checkout. I bought 3 of them. Hope this helps someone. I haven't personally had experience with xtremeguards but I've used xoskins, another wet apply option and it worked pretty well.
