Enable hotspot on AT&T Titan with HSPL and no tethering plan - HTC Titan

How to enable WLAN hotspot on AT&T Titan without a tethering plan
This may work on other carriers as well
You must have the DFT HSPL, a custom ROM and a Registry Editor of your choice installed on your Titan. I prefer using Juliens Registry editor or WP7 registry editor.
Open the registry editor and browse to the following locations:
Modify the following values in HKLM\Comm\InternetSharing\Settings:
"OpenMarketEnabled" value="1"
"EntitlementURI" value="./Vendor/MSFT/Registry/HKLM/Comm/InternetSharing/Settings/OpenMarketEnabled"
Modify the following values in HKLM\Services\ICS:
"UserProcGroup" value="5"
Reboot your phone
Need a custom ROM? Try one of mine:
HTC Titan AT&T Stock 7.8, Tango, & Mango w/Full Unlock
HTC Titan 7.8 8835 Europe stock base w/Full Unlock
----------------
Thanks goes to the author and contributors of the original samsung focus thread.
Caution: Some carriers can detect you are using this method and force you to pay for the proper plan. I am not responsible if you break anything or pay extra. Using custom ROMs and flashing HSPL can void your warranty. There is even a chance of bricking devices when flashing any ROM and HSPL. These ROMs were tested and no issues were found, but your experience may be different. If you need to send your device in for repair, be sure to flash back to stock ROM and SPL.

This hack definitely works BTW I'm using ur Tango version rom. Cheers.

I'm also using your tango rom!
This hack works great. I think it resets itself, as EntitlementURI seems to always go back to what it was before. So I removed the value of some key, It was like MobileOperatorInfoLink, because i think it checks if you have internet sharing and then the resets it if you don't. I'll see in the next couple if days of it works and let you know! It hasnt made any difference on internet sharing so I think it's the one.

Moved over to Titan development section. Good find OP!

I've had mine set for about 5 days and still working. Just checked and EntitlementURI is still set. What are you using as your registry editor? Keep us updated on your findings.

Thanks. I wasn't sure where to put it as it 'should' apply to all AT&T Windows Phones, but can't verify that of course. (I know it works for the Samsung Focus)

I think I found the problem...
I kept using Connection Setup to reconfigure my network because it seemed like it would temporarily fix my low signal issue. I'm pretty sure that's what reset it every time.
I had been doing it on a regular basis too, so that's why it reset so often.
Sorry about that! It works perfectly without my meddling

Gotta admit I am having trouble understanding what just happened to my device.
I did it all right, then rebooted and it worked.
Then after I rebooted again it stopped working (got the 611 message, etc). When I went back to check and noticed I had made a typo in the Registry Editor (HLKM instead of HKLM). When I fixed that it all worked flawlessly, without a reboot.
But how did it work before I corrected the typo?
Anyways, just wanted to share in case somebody had made the same typo =)
Best,
Daniel

I'm on the dynamics rom and the HKLM/Comm is restricted so it isn't allowing me see it change.
iS this ROM related since the above users are on your Tango ROM?

It should work on any ROM. What registry editor are you using?

Make sure the registry editor has root privileges in Root Manager

I'm using Reg Edit version 1.0.0.0. beta by Julien Schapman 2011.
I'll look around for a newer one.

That is exactly what I didn't do. Thanks.
All of a sudden, I love my Titan!!! Now that I actually have one that doesn't seem to have the call quality problem and it is unlocked!
Sweet Freedom! Good find OP, Thanks!

I just would like to know if anyone has tried this on a HTC Titan 2, feel a little neglected as to there still isn't a separate section for out phones....at leas in the subsection of the HTC Titan 1.........
OP, assuming I still have a stock rom on my hTC Titan 2, there is no other way to do this without having root access??

Right, you need registry access which requires the phone to be 'rooted'

Anyone who uses the AT&T network in the states that has applied this and used it for a while gotten a warning for using tethering without permission from AT&T? I recall using a tethering hack on my Samsung focus and got a text warning saying they were going to change me from my unlimited data plan to a lower plan. I had only used it a handful of times and wasn't like I was going crazy with it. Just wondering what people's experience has been?

I've used it off and on since I started the thread and no notification, yet. The longest I left it on was overnight with my iPad connected to it.

Question, I installed a rom with tethering on it. I have only used it once, but now it says I have to call 611 to start that service.
Why did it do that?

Did you run the connection setup? This will reset the values.

No, did nothing that I can remember. Just went to turn it on, it went to the internet to verify and said this service not available, call 611.
Is my fix the script editor they are talking about in this thread?
I don't want to put any red flags to at&t
Is it better to use a Wi-Fi/tethering application? Like Foxfi?

Unlock GPS on Verizon HTC Touch Pro??

I was wondering if there was anyway to unlock the gps on verizon's touch pro so that I can use it with googlemaps and other gps enabled apps. If there isn't a way to do it, is there any development on a way to unlock it?

I am sure they need to figure out how to unlock the phone first. Thats still in development for our phones. Once that is done I am more than sure somone will have it unlocked shortly after. Just keep checking the threads and we will see an announcement by someone. I am even sure we will see more than one thread on it.
How about Skywing's
I don't have a TP to try this on yet. Been watching this forum in anticipation of moving up (?) from a xv6800.
Has anyone tried Skywing's hack to see if it works on a TP? In one of his posts, Skywing stated that he didn't see why his hack wouldn't work on any stock Verizon 6.1 install.
Just a thought . . .
The posted bits will not work on the xv6850 due to some timing differences with how the GPS driver initialization works. There is no value in using those bits on the xv6850.
The posted bits were stated to work with the xv6800 and not any Verizon device with WM6.1. Some people have claimed success with the xv6900, but I cannot speak to any possible success or failure with that device. They will not work on the xv6850.
I already tried to install Skywings fix and as soon as I click Use GPS in Google maps, it locks the phone beyond recovery.

I installed Skywings Vallhala cab. it opened up or unlocked the GPS so it was discoverable by OnCourse navigator 8 but wouldn't actually work or find satellites. It didn't lock up my device or do any harm whatsoever. I guess I'll stick to my bluetooth receiver for the time being....
yeah my phone froze up too when i tried using GPS in google maps after installing vallhala.cab. i think it's gonna need a little something more than just using the same hack for the xv6800. i really hope someone is in the process of development.
From what I understand its just figuring out how to unlock the unit then after that its easy to do whatever you want
Has anyone been able to do anything in QPST or does the phone need to unlocked to use QPST?

No, not quite. Hait to burst everyone's buble but its not quite that simple. The phone has been unlocked just not released to us. They have GPS up and running but only with VZNav. They are trying to work with GC for a GPS solution.
I can thoerize that this will only work with a fix from Valhalla.
It has alot to do with how the PRI's are preset. To make a long story short they have sort of proved this by flashing a new radio from sprint and it still wasnt "unlocked" Same thing wiht the titan would happen after MR1. The only thing that could revert the PRI back was a revert to a non GPS radio. Then back up to a GPS radio with a standard PRI instead of the VZ locked. From there you were good.
Well there is no pre-gps radio to revert back to for the Raph. Thats why I feel we will end up going an emulation route. The drivers are differnt than that titan which is why all of our phones crashed with his fix. Or most anyways. We need him to create a utility for us until someone figured out how to "cure" the PRi issue.
I may not have used the exact correct terminology in this post. Im more of a ROM guy than a GPS / Radio guy but this is how I understand it. Someone correct me please if I am wrong. And I deperately hope I am wrong on this one (Although I had no doubt in my mind when the phone was introduced this was to be the case. They were basically beta testing the GPS system with the Titan and Vogue. Sit back and think about).

[MOD] VZW 3g hotspot app for froyo leak

How to use the 3g hotspot app for free
I looked and looked and didnt find this anywhere except for eclair and just got done doing mine a little bit ago as the steps are different now.
You used to be able to select dial up mode in wireless settings but now if you have the new froyo leak. Now you dial **usbui and change usb mode to modem. Plug in to pc fire up qpst add port once you see phone select start clients/service programming. next click read from phone, password should be typed in already as 000000. scroll over to m.ip and select the active profile, should be profile 0 and change tethered nai to [email protected] the phone will reboot and your good to go start tethering with apmode. Some may choose to reenter the usb modem settings and change it back to pda(the first step) but i do not see it as neccessary. If this has been posted by someone else already feel free to delete and if in wrong catagory feel free to move.
Just remember these steps are for FROYO leak anly not for eclair users although they may work for that also just dont have an eclair phone to test on.
I have done this for a long time and never encoured any charges although i am not liable for any problems you may come across, ive never had any. As long as your not seeing the verizon webpage when you access web via your phone then your set.
Any questions feel free to ask but i may just tell you to google it.

Why can't that file just be removed from the ROM? Would it cause the rom to just not work at all?
Forgive me for probably not using the correct terminology but does the mobile hotspot app handle tethering the same as say the wifi tether app? I just wonder if one sets off the flag to verizon where the other wouldn't.

It will break wifi if you remove the module. It ties into dhd.ko, the wifi driver.
Play nice everybody
Just got off the phone with Verizon. Been using the 3g hotspots for several days now tethered more then a gig so and I called and just asked if I was being billed for the hotspots app and they said there is nothing on my account about it that I've never had it and I would never be charged for it unless I actually signed up by changing my plan. So I'm gonna keep using mine. If anything changes I will let everyone know but I personally believe it is safe to use. I think that moniters for when you hit the 5 gig mark on your data then they start to throttle it. But this is just my opinion. But I think its a good one.;-)
Not to mention I've been using it for a pretty long while on eclair before froyo.
In fact I'm tethering right now to my gtab.
I have a couple problems with that.
First, if you admitted it, your account was likely flagged.
Second, VZW reps change their stories each time you call.
The monitor wasn't in place on eclair.

Does the same thing hold true if you wanted to use WiFi Tether for Root Users? Maybe this has already been answered, but I'm just looking for confirmation. TIA...

If it's any consolation, VZW doesn't have a flagging system, at least not one the frontline reps can access, so mentioning it on a call won't flag you. And the reason the stories change each time you call is because you might get a guy that's adept at what he does on the first call, then the next call you might get an outsourced moron from AFNI, and the next time get a person taking their first week of calls....
When you call, they are going to the features list, and looking for the feature called "Mobile Broadband Hotspot 2GB $20". Upon seeing it is not there, that is what they tell you.
What you NEED is a tech rep (like myself) to go into the back-side of the billing system or the switch, and check your records there. The switch will tell me if something is 'off' about your data, like if a rate limit has been added. The billing system will tell me if there are DUN (dial up networking) connections being reported. But, in all likelihood, the groups doing any kind of monitoring are **NOT** the folks taking your calls. They work in the switches or corporate, and their goings-on are a mystery to us that do take your calls. So, they could be minutely tracking each byte and I, as a tenured Tech rep, wouldn't have the foggiest idea what they were doing.
Just to share with you how 'in the loop' we in the call centers are kept, I had an engineer call me last week complaining that his test device couldn't authenticate phone calls. I asked for the number, and it pulls up a device listed as "Test Device 7". I asked for the make/model of the phone, and he tells me, "I can't tell you that, it's unreleased and classified". I then tell him, without even a brand, I can't create a new authentication key and give him steps to program it into the phone. He still wouldn't tell me anything, so I told him to seek help with the person that gave him the top secret phone and hope they can do my job too.
if the op wants to disregard the warnings and tether...then by all means tether...but theres a reason monitoring was put into froyo...and i cant imagine it was for our benefit...so meh

I didnt admit it i told them a family member had my phone and when i got it back the hotspot app was on my homescreen and wasnt for sure what they did with it. Besides even if they do charge me which i doubt they will its only gonna be 30 bucks. I can handle that to let everyone else know what really happens. But its just like people worryjng about sending back rooted phones with changes for warrenty replacements. I just wipe my numbers out and send it rooted boot animation changed everything even a custom rom and theme one time. They dont pay attention to the phones. They get them plug them in and flash them to stock. Just mt two cents. When i recieve my feb bill ill let you know whether or not i get charged anythjng for tethering.

One can't link to HTC Media Link without turning on hotspot

I can link my EVO 4G LTE to HTC media link HD (got it for free from pre-ordering htc one). However, HTC ONE wouldn't connect to it without turning on the hotspot which I don't have. I was wondering if there's a way to fix this? Has anyone successfully link htc one to the media link hd?

Same issue - can't get it to work... and I'm a computer guy! haha.
Called ATT - they were obviously clueless and at first I needed to add hotspot, after refusing they transferred me to HTC. Setup a ticket with them. I'll get back with info once they contact me.
I suspect it's something to do with ATT's customization, surprise surprise.
Same issue - HTC One "2013 M7" at&t
I got it to work by tuning on airplane mode then tuning wifi back on. But once I turn airplane mode off it no longer works.

As far as I can tell everything is working perfectly. All the AT&T bloatware is gone, as smooth/smoother than stock, transparent notification shade, back button as menu enabler, etc. Only thing missing is the 4G and LTE icons in the statusbar. I still have LTE I think (haven't tested), but the icons are just different, which isn't a big deal to me. I also dirty flashed this so I didn't lose any data and I haven't encountered any negative side effects.

Can you link us to where you got the files and/or if there are instructions on flashing this? Also I'd like to confirm this is the HTC One, not the One X, V, S or any other phones. I'm still trying to figure out why the hell HTC would call this the "One", other than to make it impossible to search for items for this phone vs the other phones. :-\
Also have you confirmed LTE is working?
Thanks!
P.S. Still haven't heard back from HTC/ATT, but I'd just assume blast away all the bloatware from the get-go.
Same problem here. First says check the input on my TV then says I need to enable hotspot. At one point I was able to connect long enough to change the name of the media link and it even displayed what was on my phone, but then the aforementioned dialogues popup and I am forced to click ok which puts the tv back at the media links initial screen. I've tried both wireless n and g as well as my Panasonic and Vizio tvs. Version number on the media link is 5.19.103.1

Yeah this is the HTC One. No way in hell would I be flashing a One X ROM on my One. The ROM is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2202696
Standard instructions for installing a ROM. Download the file (I used v1.0, not the nightlies), place it on SD card, boot into recovery, install .zip file.
- I said no when it asked to wipe my data before installation (it's an aroma installer).
Something else I just noticed, the media link is connecting to my wireless network and it displays the SSID and full signal strength. However, as soon as I try to push content to the TV, via the 3 finger swipe up, the wifi signal strength drops to nothing and it attempts to do the whole tethering nonsense. Also, "filter multicast" is in option on my router, but it is disabled. I figure I'll just keep this going since not everyone will want to flash a new ROM just to fix this.

http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-one/269723-cant-pair-media-link.html
been talked about over at AC
Phil says his works but he has an older firmware on the media link
I've talked to both att and htc for a couple hours and both of them are casting the blame on the other.
att tried to tell me once that i needed a hot spot plan... until i explained the technology to them and said how my One X connects just fine without a sim card in it.... and they quickly take it back
eventually they both tell me there should be an update to fix it yada yada yada
Well hopefully someone will come up with a fix before then...I don't have much confidence in them patching it unless it's pretty widespread. Not many people complaining of it yet

i can already see AT&T behind this. Turn on hotspot, accuse users of using the hotspot, remove unlimited data plans. makes total sense to me.

been talked about over at AC
Phil says his works but he has an older firmware on the media link
I've talked to both att and htc for a couple hours and both of them are casting the blame on the other.
att tried to tell me once that i needed a hot spot plan... until i explained the technology to them and said how my One X connects just fine without a sim card in it.... and they quickly take it back
eventually they both tell me there should be an update to fix it yada yada yada

Not yet. If they do get it working, it'll be through an international ROM. AT&T has refused to support it so far.
Yeah, I've tried the modaco toolkit version(from the youtube vid I found) and that person got it working, but it is on an Sprint HTC One.
Guess I'll wait and see what happens.
I found a verion that works on sprint, but on my phone (running cognition 0.6 - based upon dev rom) it still says "Device/carrier not supported"
I'm sure its based upon some carrier flag perhaps... not sure why/how at&t can actually keep google from releasing it... especially on a "deveoper" version of the phone...

Sprint is the only us carrier that can use wallet. Speaking from previous phones on their network. If I'm not mistaken the s3 on sprint and nexus all use wallet straight from the market.

Yeah but they(devs here) found a way to use the Sprint version of the phones to bypass the carrier locks. I had GW on my AT&T S3 via wallet installer. Requires root, but it was a simple build.prop edit to get it working.

Well, looking at the build.prop I have, am running Cognition 0.6 rom... it has a line of ro.product.brand=cingular_us...
I wonder if we could just change that line to the sprint version (maybe sprint_us, not sure exactly what it's value is but we should be able to find out), reboot the phone, setup wallet, set the line back, reboot and have working wallet.... anyone want to try it?

I remember that I could get Google Wallet to work on my Galaxy SIII by changing the phone name in the build.prop to HTC RAIDER and it would work.
I can't seem to find the thread that detailed how to do it, but I bet with a rooted ROM you could use the same hack and install via the APK
giving it a shot
There were two lines I think in the build.prop related to at&t... may want to compare build.props against a sprint phone.... let me know how it goes...

I got in touch with the dev who got wallet working on the s3, he is working on it for the s4 and the One as well.
I've tried all the build prop edits, along with Modaco toolkit using Xposed framework and removing carrier/root checks. Still nothing. Leads me to believe we need some files from the Sprint HTC One like the S3 needed to get this working.

I've pulled all the nfc libs/files from the sprint ROM as per the other workarounds that have gotten google wallet working and flashed them, changed build.prop, installed all the modded wallet apks i could find as well as the play store version, but it never gets past the first screen (logcat showed a No Secure Element Error). I've recently, however, been told that the Secure Element is located in the micro sim, which currently i don't have (i'm using a cut mini sim, so ISIS doesn't even work. Can anyone check to see if ISIS will install for them?). Here is the flashable package iwth the nfc libs/files from the Sprint ROM, if anyone would like to try to see if it will utilize the secure element in the sim (it will still require the other workarounds, I'm guessing).
Keep in mind this is from the original ROM, before their update yesterday (or two days ago) that enabled wallet. Once i find a dump from the update, i'll redo the flashable with the most current files.. ah i see there's one posted, downloading now... will have a new flashable shortly.. i'm also gonna check out the new build.prop to see what, if any, changes happened there that might be necessary.
Edit: removed this one. New one will be up in about 15 minutes

Once you get the new package I'll try flashing and see what happens.
I can install Isis from the Play store, but it won't let me initialize cause I'm rooted. Also not sure if my micro sim has a secure element or not(since I am not located in one of the test markets).

I can't even install ISIS..tells me my device is unsupported. So since you can, my guess is you do have a secure element. I was told by a chat representative yesterday (I know, taken with a grain of salt), that all of ATT's micro SD's have a secure element.
10 minutes left on the download, then some comparison, then I'll have a flashable

Ok, I'm making a Nandroid right now, I'm going to try the flashable zip you already included to see if that works.
I'm going to update my build prop to one of the following and see if that bypasses it
ro.product.model=Galaxy Nexus
ro.product.name=yakju
ro.product.device=maguro
ro.product.model=htc_jewel
ro.product.name=htc_jewel
ro.product.device=htc_jewel
Both of those worked for the S3

Root zte overture aio wireless????

Hello all. Sorry if this is in the wrong place. I recently got my girlfriend a zte overture on aio wireless. I've been looking at a method to root this phone and have found nothing. The phone is pretty decent, not even looking for a custom ROM (yet), just need root to bypass the Google hangout video call WiFi restriction, and to get wifitether working for her.
I understand that their isn't much demand for ROMs and what not for that phone. But with aio wireless going nation wide and the phone being only 150 bucks with semi nice specs and 4g, figured something's would start popping up for this phone.
Anyway any advice and help will be greatly appreciated.

ZTE Overture z995 - root method from other ZTE's?
I tried the Lumina 620 last week with Aio, and while the phone hardware was awesome the Windows Phone 8 OS was my hangup - (cmon guys, cant even add custom notification sounds? No system file explorer? The HERE maps are 2 years old or more in my area too...).
So I went back to Aio and got the ZTE Overture (Z995). (LTE Rocks! Wow I like the speed and coverage in DFW!)
It's a nice phone - low on memory, but it allows you to remove facebook with no issues, and the build on it is not too junked up.
Can anyone tell or theorize on whether other ZTE root methods work on this phone? I'd love to put a hosts file ad block on it...
Model: Z995
Android Ver: 4.1.2
Baseband: Z995T01
Kernel: 3.4.0-svn5856 [email protected]
I have seen statements that ZTE doe not have a locked bootloader. I noticed in my phone settings, in system updates, it even has options for "Storage card updates" and the "Update ZTE Software" option seems to try to open a zip file on the SD card... so does that mean you could put SU in a zip file and just ask the phone to apply the zip to get root? I doubt it's that simple, but I thought I would ask...
I've tried using google translate on baidu to see if anything came up but man, it's tough to navigate that site if you don't speak Chinese...
Oh - This phone is $79 at Aio. I also asked what happens to us Aio folks when AT&T shuts Aio down to merge it with Cricket in the coming months and got blank stares... (we should be OK, they'll just move us into Cricket I assume. They people at the Aio store might not be so lucky.)
Haven't heard anything about a merge with cricket. Aio just went national about a month ago so that would be strange.
Anyway, I'm still searching for an answer to get root on that phone.
Want to bypass the need to be on WiFi for hangouts, which needs root to achieve.
I'll be sure to post if I find anything

Do a quick Google for "att cricket aio", you'll see the blogs and news about it... Who knows - maybe if ATT shutters AIO we can get an unlock code early for free.
(hey just a thought does AIO stand for "ATT's Independent Operator"? And would that be ironic, or an oxymoron? )
I must be tired, I've started making bad jokes....

I haven't found anything yet. It must not be an extremely popular phone based on the low quantity of hits I get looking around the net for info on it.
Which is weird because I really like it. I got over 5 days of life and was still at 30% when I plugged it in last week, which is awesome (less than 10 minutes talk time on it however). I wasnt sure how much battery life an LTE connection would take but it doesent appear to be much in standby.
I do see references to a ZTE blade and rooting them, and that thread (I think its in xda somewhere) stated all ZTE phones have unlocked bootloaders... and there are threads about the 990 (the Overture is the 995) being unlocked. But until I see someone play with their 995 I am not assuming ZTE left it unlocked. It is a phone on the ATT network so I would expect them to be less customer friendly. (qualification: they dont like you monkeying with their phones as much, but the customer service is tons better than a straight-talk type provider for sure)
I am just hoping I'll run across a post stating how to root it someday. LTE is awesome speeds, but it still burns me up to have to spend some of my bandwidth on video ads on youtube. Especially for something I would never buy and they show the same commercial over and over and over...
-=RB
I also read that zte devices where all unlocked. But if my memory serves correctly, the guide on how to root zte devices found on xDA was for android 2.3.
Surprised that nothing has appeared for the phone. It was a cheap decent price with lte capabilities. Thought more people would be using it.
When I get a chance to tinker with the phone I will.

But this looks promising
Tried oneclickroot with no success. It did recognize the device it just would not root.
zte
Well I tried that Root Method and it seem to work fine and its pretty easy. Installed super user seems to be working fine the only thing that i am having toruble with is getting the wifi tether to work (im using WiFi tether- TrevE Mod) got it installed and all but when i turn it on it gives me a message tethering started with errors to go to the show log.. I do that and in the show logg everything looks fine except a section named "Enabling NAT rules..." that says failed any suggestions????
Never played much with wifi tethering but usb tethering works. I used foxfi free, however they cut off at bout 45 mb then ya need to restart it. Tried a few others with lil success so far. Gota like AIOs tethering policy, or lack of.
Good to know this will root, cept now I get to figure out why it wouldnt for me. You used oneclickroot? Did you install the drivers manually?
Yes I did install the drivers manually I was having trouble at first for some reason it would get stuck on on of the processes but finally got it. I the only thing is that im having toruble trying to tethering i dont know why have not tried the usb method might try that dont know if i would be abel to used it with my playstaion.. thats the main reason i was trying to tether..
Any was I was reading that that the erros message that it gave me in my show log.. (Enabling NAT rules... Failed) had something to do with the kernel not supporting wifi tether that i would have to flash a different kernel in the phone any suggestions??

so, what actually works?
Ok, just so I read the thread correctly, the one click root site DID work for getting root, but the other referenced thread talking about rooting the blade has not been proven to work on the 995/overture, correct?
One click pops up frequently in my searches for root, but I thought it involved downloading a windows app and paying $30 to some unknown website. If that is true then I'll wait till another method is posted. I won't risk running an app unless I know what it is really doing to both my phone and my PC. And I am certainly not forking out $30 for it.
It seems risky and, well, not in the spirit of xda... I mean isn't it more about learning how it all works, discovering how to do it on your own, and working with fellow xda'ers to develop and vet a good (transparent) process for root?
If one click works well and you don't mind the cost and not knowing what their software is really doing, then that's ok. There's no right or wrong here in my opinion.
I just don't see it as being as much fun or as safe a way to get to root...

Well then I guess the reviews on their forum were incorrect then... When I looked thru their blog there were comments stating it asked for $$ at some point. Aside from that there were tons of complaints about unsupported phones... And maybe one or two happy posts out of 20 bad ones.
I'll give it a closer look then. I know I can sandbox the application in a VM, so maybe I can get a backup of the phone before I play with it w/o using clockwork as well.
Will post what I find... Thanks!
OK, who actually got oneclick to work? And has anyone used the blade thread sucessfully?
Also, if you read the legalese when installing it, it clearly states the payment for service must be made to a canadian recovery company, and that you release all rights, etc etc. I did notice any legalese on privacy was missing, which I expected to see. There is a license tab with a space for activation codes as well. (i.e. it's definitely a paid app, but trying to find out how much is difficult, its not on their website anywhere.)
And I can verify the oneclickroot tries to see the device (goes thru identify, validate, download, install), but always throws up a "Please confirm your device is connected - install ADB manually" box. ADB Driver links bounce you to the ZTE news page that has a link for an older "ZTE 3G adb driver download" which gives you a file - "ZTE_Android USB_Driver_For_Microsoft_PC.rar". And after installing that, I still don't have any luck getting the solution to work.
I suspect those first few "steps" in oneclick root are bogus as well, because if you don't have any phone connected and start the process, it still goes through the "Identify, validate, download, install" steps.
For the phone, I noticed that while I can choose from several different options for connections in settings (Charge Only, USB Mass Storage, Install Driver, Connect to PC Software, Media Device (MTP), and Camera (PTP) ) several of those options show a failure in windows for the "Android" driver. That said, I have no problem using or connecting to the phone as a media device, camera, or mass storage device, so I'm not sure what the "Android" device driver that keeps failing is supposed to be for. Maybe that's what is preventing oneclickroot from going further, but I have no way to tell at this point.
So I would recommend at this point to stay away from it. Overpriced, does not work (even though it attempts to appear it is doing something), and privacy concerns are not addressed in their legalese, as well as we still have no idea what their executable is actually doing to the phone or the windows host, and they wont clearly state what it costs.

There may be an app blocking mobile hotspot like tmobile puts on there phones. Seems unlikely since AIO told me they had no problems with tethering but never know. Pick up an uninstaller from the play store an look through all the apps.
Only other suggestion i can think of right now is trying the different wifi tethering apps available.
Maybe one of these days we will get a dev in here making custom ROMS, can only hope. :fingers-crossed:
This may be something http://androidforums.com/force-4g-lte-all-things-root/702172-wifi-tether.html
Would try it myself but don't have it yet. Or access to the phone i was setting up. (that woman was crazy)
