[Q] I think I broke my keyboard.. - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Hey guys,
I'm kinda new here and I have no idea if I posted this in the right section..
Today I made the decision to root my phone 'cause I want to extend my battery life, for some reason it didn't occure in my mind to make a backup (I'm retarded I know..) and now I broke my keyboard.
I wanted to install the Swype Beta and saw on a forum you had to delete the old swype first. So I used the Terminal Emulator and deleted Swype.apk and my keyboard flipped.
Now I don't have a keyboard any more and for some reason I also can't change to the default keyboard..
I tried installing Swype Beta using copy and paste (for the inlogscreen etc.) but when I try to download the application it gives me a parse error...
I hope you guys can help me!
Thanks in advance

I didn't change my rom (so far as I know).
I followed a short tutorial on youtube how to root a Galaxy Ace, and that's all I did. So (I guess) I'm still runing TouchWiz 3.0

Go to settings->about phone->*Scroll down and see firmware version tell me that
and I will make u a flashable zip to fix it

I use android 2.3.5 !
Would you also be so kind to give me a mini tutorial how to install that zip?
Or is it just the same as rooting the phone?

Bit different...Depends on the guy who writes the fix.If he has mounted the system in the updater script but its better to mount system anyway because the updater script doesnt mount system sometimes.

Here is the zip sorry I don't have 2.3.5 only 2.3.3,2.3.4,2.3.6,2.3.7 so I tried 2.3.4 keyboard....
download
http://www.mediafire.com/?0b9ftgzqzwt4wqg
About telling u how to make it....
What the zip does
Pushes the apk into system/app
What u need to do
go into META-INF/com/google/android and open updater-script.file (Wordpad will do)
Then insert this code
Code:
ui_print("Installing");
run_program("/sbin/mount", "/system");
show_progress(1, 15);
package_extract_dir("system", "/system");
run_program("/sbin/umount", "/system");
ui_print("Done!");
What everything means
ui_print: desplays custom text in recovery
run_program:runs something in this case it mounts something
show_progress:Shows a statbar that is out of 15 movements and starts at 1
pakage_extract_dir: extracts the folder "system" to your phones system folder in root
But
Just that code won't work remember it has to extract an apk...
the code says that it will extract the system folder so there has to be a folder named system in the root of your zip
and u want to extract the apk to system/app so in your system folder there should be and app folder with the apk in
Ok thats it
If my zip fails copy your keyboard from your rom named "AxT9IME.apk" (in system/app) to my zip in system/app (replace my apk)
If all else fails reflash your rom via odin
GOOD LUCK

Well mate if swype is gone, the samsung keypad is still there. Try this, Long press and hold in any typing window, like the space where you type message. A menu will appear asking for input method, and select samsung keypad. Or you need to flash zip as the guys are already telling you.

Just use open up Terminal on your desktop (If you use Linux) and type:
cd /home/[YOURNAME]/[WHEREVER YOUR APK IS]
adb start
adb devices
adb push [APKFILENAME] /mnt/sdcard
adb kill
exit
Then on your phone, use a file manager, and open the keyboard APK.
Be aware that everything has to be case sensitive.

[Q] Install phone.apk

Please sorry for my English. Help ... I want to install but copy phone.apk system / app says that the application was installed and is not exiting the application factory.
I can do ... I also want to change the original lock screen, but I do not know which file I should change ...
I have original 2.1 eclair
thanks.
try this:
Install root explorer (I´m sure, you can find it here by using the search-button), then go to the folderwhere your new phone.apk is, and copy it. then go to system/app, mount it as "rw" and paste it, and then I recommend you to reboot.

Had already tried, but still keeps showing the original application, and when trying to install from system / app says "the application was not installed"...
Any ideas? with respect to lockscreen, what is the application that performs this function?
phone.apk cannot be "installed". it needs to be "pushed" into /system/app
as for lockscreen, u can either change theme or find lockscreen programs... there are a few in the market.
if u do not know how, i suggest u do a little more finding all the answers are somewhere
After moving an app to system/app, set the permission of the app to rw-r--r-- (Root Explorer)
Sent via X8 Browser
There is already an installed application (system)
Phone.apk application is not installed because there is an application system that must be replaced, but look for it in system / app and I not find that application, if you know the name (I have the stock rom) to tell me to remove it and install the new application (I think it might not be in system / app, but I do not know where else might be).
Thank you.
In the stock rom the phone application is called SemcPhone.apk

Indeed, that is. But it does not let me install the application. says "The application has not been installed", even replacing the message application to install.
And when I call, show an error in the process android.process.acore.
If someone has done this before, please guide me.
R u crazy? Phone.apk cannot be installed/replaced under Android is running! Deleting phone.apk causes force-closes and boot-loop. Only way to change phone.apk is ADB under xrecovery.

funny~ i ALWAYS change phone.apk when android is running works fine so far. hehe. of course i use ADB tho
I´ve modified the reframe.sh by propc for semcphone.apk....just download it and extract it to the root of your sdcard (with your computer or your X8 by using a file manager)
Then install terminal Emulator (if you don´t have it already) and type
Code:
sh mnt/sdcard/SEMCphone.sh
and it should react and show you some text like "replace SEMCphone by propc (modified by codfreak).
This should also work with ADB, but I think Terminal E. is easier
You can also use it for replacing ANYTHING, just open the file on your computer with notepad and rewrite the filenames and directorys.

Yes, I'm crazy ... But thanks to you I remembered that I could change the framework with a script, modify it and it worked SemcPhone.apk to change (replace) the phone restarts, but then as if it had apacerece signal and not making calls.
Please, if someone has changed some StockRom SemcPhone.apk 2.1 per phone.apk tell me how.
Thank you.

think the same idea (I modified de script with office suite in the phone ), but does not work the apk ... I do not know what to do, I have the phone.apk for eclair. and does not work.
Hello, I discovered that the recovery is easier to install, I used a zip signed which contained a framework and add the phone.apk renamed SemcPhone.apk. But the different versions of phone.apk I tried did not work on my stock rom. If you know of any version can be installed, if they have already done so, please comment.
deleted android dialer (oops)
hello, I have a samsung galaxy tab 7 running froyo2.2:" did something stupid, I unistalled the wrong dialer using Ti backup. Its called android dialer. and of course i am experience a hic-cup. (hope it not a cold and its curable-lol) I was searching the threads and came across "pushing" the phone.apk using root explorer however I oops again and think i mounted it read only. Now I am stuck in the water.

Making and flashing a .zip help

I'm trying to change the icon in my status bar that is displayed when i'm playing rhapsody. i've modified the notification icons in the .apk that i found in data/app. I created a .zip using the structure /META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script. in the main folder where META-INF resides i have a folder called data and inside that i have the modified com.rhapsody-1.apk. my updater script is as follows:
ui_print("Applying my update";
run_program("/sbin/busybox", "mount", "/data";
package_extract_dir("app", "/data/app";
run_program("/sbin/busybox", "umount", "/data";
i zipped everytihng up, put it on the root of my sd card. I then used zipsigner2 (from the market) to sign the .zip. Rebooted to recovery, made a back up, navigated to install the .zip from the sd card, flashed and it looked like it was working but the last line of the script simply said "installation aborted". Any help or guidance on where i'm failing here would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance!

Best advice I can give you is use an existing zip.
I have a template zip if you would like a copy.
Just insert your apk into it and flash.

Whatever template zip yopu end up with, just check your ROM, some mount things differently etc. some mount ext3, some mount using busy box, some mount with certain permissions.
Another way, is to grab a mod, or theme that someone has done for your ROM you are using and then just delete out all the apps and such and use that for a base zip. Of course edit the update-script file as well.

I can upload one tonight if need be.
using something like 7Zip open a flashable zip in view. Dont extract it.
You will see at least two folders. The one you want is the Manifest folder. go through that one and find the updater-script. One will be the binary, dont edit it. the othe ris the actual script, pull it out by dragging it out and use a text editor of some type to edit it. once done, drag file right back into the 7Zip you already have open.

Battery Icon Mod

The stock battery icon on Galaxy wifi 5.0 is not very inspiring and it doesn't tell you the battery level. It is quite easy to replace them on other phones with Clockwork Recovery. You just need to go to UOT kitchen http://uot.dakra.lt/kitchen/ , pick the icons you like and it will give you a flashable zip file.
Without Clockwork Recovery on Galaxy wifi, it can still be done but with a bit more manual operations.
Prerequisites:
1. A rooted device.
2. Clockworkmod Recovery (optional).
Step 1:
Use Titanium backup (pro version needed) to free up some spaces in /system directory (There are 0 byte free in stock rom). You can delete some unused system apps or convert some of them to user app. For example converting Flash player and google map to user app free up enough space for me.
Step 2:
Backup the following apk files from your stock rom. You can do that by using some file manager like File Expert. These files will be needed by UOT kitchen
/system/app/SystemUI.apk
/system/framework/framework-res.apk
/system/framework/twframework-res.apk
Step 3:
Go to UOT kitchen http://uot.dakra.lt/kitchen/ and cook your custom UI. Make sure you read their how-to here first http://uot.dakra.lt/how_to/
Step 4a: (follow this if you have Clockworkmod Recovery)
Copy the zip produced by UOT kitchen to your internal SD card. Reboot to CWM Recovery and flash the zip file using the option "Install zip from sd card". Then reboot and you are done.
Step 4b: (follow this if you don't have Clockworkmod Recovery)
Extract the 3 modified apk files from the zip package produced by UOT kitchen and put them into a convenient location on your sdcard, say /sdcard/
Step 5:
The system directory is by default read only. You need to remount it as r/w. I do that through adb shell
Code:
su
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mmcblk0p13 /system
Step 6:
Copy your new apk files into /system directory
Code:
cp /sdcard/SystemUI.apk /system/app/
cp /sdcard/framework-res.apk /system/framework/
cp /sdcard/twframework-res.apk /system/framework/
Step 7:
Restart your device. The /system directory should remounted as read only and the new UI will take effect.
Disclaimer:
Certainly there are risked involved and I did corrupted my rom on several occasions when trying this out. So make sure you have a functional ROM around before you give this a try.
thanks for the tips.
hey I wanna ask you about is it can fully modification from http://uot.dakra.lt/kitchen/
I mean don't just modify battery icon but every option that site provide.
thanks in advance.

I have only experimented with icons so far. Other mod may be possible because UOT kitchen does support gingerbread. Since this device is new, we need some brave soul to try that out

Yes, you will need the pro version. If you have the pro version, long press an app will give you the option to do the conversion.
Well, while deleting apps with TI, I decided to get rid of "phone", figuring I didn't need it, but it turns out Google voice needs it! Trying to "restore", but just hangs forever. If someone could give me the "com.sec.android.app.dialertab.apk" located in /system/app/ I would really appreciate it!
EDIT; I just reinstalled voice from market, seemed to fix it, I wouldn't advise removing phone from the apps though!
can you make the display of battery accurate to 1%?thank you!
First make it accurate to 5%, then work on 1%
I think the accuracy of the battery level is deeper down in the system, may be in the kernel?
If you try different types of battery widget on Galaxy Player, they all have very bad accuracy.
I want to edit the framework-res.apk manually, instead of using the kitchen. Do the files need to be deoxed? Would flashing a framework-res compiled with apk manager brick the device?
nice guide!
I've used UOT Kitchen to get ICS transitions, change icons, battery, fonts, and customize the status bar and they all work on my galaxy player 4.0 US.

There is still an odex file in the system directory. I suppose it is not deoxed but UOT kitchen doesn't seem to bother with that file. I guess it is because these apk files don't contain any executable code.

Two things, if you please:
When you say "corrupted my rom", you can't boot your device but you can still go to dl mode, correct?
"functional ROM" is the fw/md5 file we usually flash via odin/heimdall?
I'd like to try this out (& then some...) but, in the absence of a custom recovery, I don't wanna have to go through the lengths of "resurrecting" my sgp. TIA!

In my case, it couldn't boot beyond the samsung start up screen, but I can still boot into download mode. Since we are only modifying a file within the file system, it is very unlikely that it will destroy the download mode.
If you can get to download mode, you can flash one of the firmwares you found in this forum using odin. You need to be sure you have the correct firmware for your device though, because there are so many variant of Galaxy Player. What is the version of your device?
nvm that (i was thinking on the same lines too though) but thanks anyway! appreciate it.
thanks to your guide, was able to change my fonts and added that flying in pop up animation as well. for these two, however, i don't think we need the kitchen though and for that matter, we don't need to modify systemui & twframework.
for fonts (you could use font changer apps, but i hate doing so for such things), take any you fancy from anywhere here in xda (WARNING: only extract the downloaded file to your device/pc) then rename (case sensitive) font files accordingly: Clockopia.ttf, DroidSans.ttf, DroidSans-Bold.ttf. copy these to sd & push to /system/fonts/ using similar cp command/s from OP.
for pop up animation, you could follow this guide. no need to sign after replacing files in /res/anim. copy modded framework-res.apk to sd then push to device via same commands in OP.
btw, wouldn't issuing "reboot" within adb shell be more convenient & safer after changing system files while booted to android? it's what i did instead of rebooting via power button, as you'll most likely see an FC fiesta after replacing these files.

Theses are good suggestions, will definitely give them a try.
As for changing system fonts, I like to use the Font Installer app on the market
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.canvs2321.font_installer&hl=en The nice thing is I can preview the fonts before changing them.
As for the reboot, actually I did try using the reboot command once but it toasted my rom on that occasion. That's why I didn't mention the method in the guide. May be I should give that another try next time.
Hopefully, we will get CWM soon then it will be much easier to flash these mods.

Kernel battery driver is very simplistic and only has 5% increments in the numbers it returns.
On my list to look at once I finish CWM - no guarantees.

So, i have some sgs2 stock apk files, how can i install them to my custom ROM sgs2 ? if i try to install them it says "X App not installed" (sorry for bad translations)
and some say "You have allready installed same named package, which signature is in conflict with this package"
Try to rename tha apk in apk.bak and paste the new one by root explorer or similar giving sama permission
use thanks button!!
Is it an AOSP custom ROM? If it is, the frameworks are incompatible and you will never succeed.

Try this:
First you obviously need root.
1. Using any file explorer (e.g. Root Explorer, Astro, or ES File Manager) copy the apk files to /system/app directory
2. Mount the directory (Look for "Mount R/W") so that the files can be modified.
3. Change the Permission of the apk files (usually done by press-holding the file and selecting the appropriate menu selection) to rw-r--r--
4. Reboot the device
This should automatically install the apk files at the next boot.
It wont let me copy those apk's to system/app folder. and i didnt find mount r/w from any explorer. my rom is Omega's ics 4.0.4
srry for repost but i found mount r/w and i managed to copy apk's to system/app folder, now just rebooting and i will see if that works

that's not good.
I've used this method to install stock swype and taskmanager apks to cm9 and it worked for me.
Did you update the permissions?
If you have, sorry, I can't help you further. I've read somewhere about "deodex" that may have got to do with it, which i'm not quite sure about.
I've also noticed that apks that are specifically designed for TW don't work on other ROMs.
good luck

Can you elaborate? Is it a feature for a special keyboard or something? It might have something to do with a system apk or something that has the same name and it sees it as an update.. Sometimes you'd just need more foreign framework in order for stuff to run. But more details please, maybe we can make it work.. Try and install the Huawei keyboard first..
I have no experience with Swype or different keyboards, I don't even use the dictionary.. Uhh, so.. Yeah. I just installed CyanogenMod's e-mail on my Alpha and in order for Exchange to work, I needed to delete Samsung's exchange services apk and their e-mail. Maybe you need to find all the Huawei apps that's needed for the Swype to run.

Can you link me the ROM you took the file from? I would very much like to unpack it and look at the applications. Then I'll get back to you. I need more applications from Huawei to look at. I just need the stock rom from Huawei.
