[Q] HELP! i think i bricked my phone! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

hi all,
i was trying to root my phone (samsung i717 with ICS leaked version).
I downloaded the usb drivers,
Got the phone into download mode,
Connected phone to PC with usb
phone was recognised and i was able to see the SAMSUNG USB Device in device manager
opened ODIN, selected the pda.tar file and clicked on start..
Everything was going fine i got all the success messages in ODIN, then my phone rebooted and then stuck on the SAMSUNG screen.
on my PC i see USB drivers trying to be installed and fails.. i dont understand where to go from here.. i tried several time, but keep getting stuck at this point
Please please let me know how i can get my phone back.. i am a newbie.. would really appreciate a link or something that has step by step instructions so i dont mess it up further..
Thanks all..

hi, thanks for your responses.
but as i said i am new to all this, and although i have a basic idea about what you are asking me to do, i would really really appreciate it if some one can send me a link or step by step instruction on what i have to do..
i am very familliar with getting my phone in download mode. And also have odin on my PC.. but i am guessing i have to use a different Tar file to flash stock (right?)
if my above guess is right, i think i will be stuck with the same issue where i select the tar file and click on "start'" in odin and everthing goes well until the phone is rebooted and after that for some reason my PC cant find the usb drives and doesnot recognise my phone..
sorry if i am asking silly questions,. but this is my first android phone (smart phone actually..) and my first attempt at upgrade / rooting

hi,
MY PHONE IS BACK!!!
i followed all the instruction to the T in the following link:
http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-no...brick-att-galaxy-note-sgh-i717-android-2-3-6/
Thanks all for your time and suggestions..
Now that i have lost all my data i guess i can do some more "testing"

Congratulations and happy testing!!!

thanks..
i flashed stock rom, then rooted it (this time i was sucessful)
then installed CWM touch, made a backup,
Installed titanium backup, made backup again..
next step is to install the "OnlyOne HYFR B4" rom
Then to try and reset the flash counter
hope i am sucessful at this..
any other ROM recomendations?

glad to see you got it working..happy flashing homey!!!

Sounds like you didn't wait until your system files and dalvik cache was built b4 you jumped the fun and freaked out. Next time realize that after a ROM flash it could take up to 10 minutes to build the system and all you'll see is the pulsating Samsung logo.

Yes, you are right.. that is probably what i did.. thanks for letting me know.. as i plan to flash ICS rom tonight, will make sure that i am relaxed and patient
now that i have all the backups and know how to bring it back to stock.. i guess i would be more relaxed .

If you're not set on ICS I personally run Saurom with Dag's kernel. I don't care what anyone says....an OC'd kernel on GB performs better than any ICS ROM currently available. Not to take anything away from the current ICS roms...

Where in the process are you getting these errors? There are multiple steps to installing ICS that this could occur. What ROM are you running right now? If stock, is it 2.1 or 2.2? Do you have CWR installed? Is it installed with Update.zip or through ROM Manager? Did you flash CM7 before ICS?
Simply putting that you got this error is not enough information for us to diagnose and help.
Edit::: also please don't spam the other posts with "Good" or "Great to hear that" to get your post count up like was done in Themes and Apps section. There are many threads to that you can post in to get the count up legitimately.

That is the problem. Go to my guide in the General or in my sign and follow it.
it rooted? you have the right CWM rec on it? im not a pro but i know that might be it
You must install CyanogenMod 7 before install a ICS rom.

After installing it, did you let it settle for 20 minutes before using the phone?
If you did, try flashing again, or download the rom again.

I happen to me the first time I load the Passion 13. So I delete the passion zip file from where I will load it (download folder in my case), then redownload the passion 13 zip file and copy it to the download folder. It works for me.

this is what i did, when helping my friend boot it up,
you have to make sure your rooted
then install ClockWorkMod recovery onto the phone,
then install CM7 after it boots back to recovery
then wipe data and cache
then install ics passion wait for it to boot all the way back to recovery for the last time
install the clean up patch and the phone will work perfect
i had the same problem, thats what i had to do make sure it worked perfect

what if you didn't let let it settle for 20 minutes? I didn't most of thing seems alright, except that the dial keys seem to be sticky if I hold it a hair too long, like when you try to do quick dial, the key will stay selected and you can't dial other numbers until it unstick.
I'm using Passion 13, not sure if I have kiss 2.2.
A question for everyone: can't Passion 13 or ICS for Vibrant in general let you assign phone number for quick dial? You have to use direct dial widget?

Usually a boot into recovery, fix permission and wipe cache and dalvik cache will clear this up. But sometimes it is just a bad download too.

It is always a good idea to let the phone go through a "settling" period after you flash it. There are RAM tweaks to finish, media scanning and a host of other things that need to be completed as you just installed a completely new operating system on your phone. Especially don't log into Market or Titanium and start restoring as this can cause problems long term. What is 20 mins compared to problems and hassles for the next few days/weeks.
If you don't know if you have Kiss 2.2 on your phone, then you don't have it b/c you have to flash it. See HERE

I wanted to revert to Sammy rom from cm9 beta. So I ran Odin and placed all the necessary files. Went into download mode, attached USB, and started. It got stuck at the mibib part after 'big partition size!!' I did have admin rights, redownloaded the same rom from samfirmware and reflashed many times with no luck.
Can someone please help?? Its my brother's phone btw.

With the big partition thing try right click odin and run as admin incase. Make sure you have all neccesary files in the right place. (e.g. Default program (made that up) cant be in boot) make sure odin is on first. Then go into download mode. Press up. Then press start on odin. Or you can do a hard reset via abd (restore all files and things) i dont know the cmds off by heart so google the hard reset thing.

I've never pulled battery and haven't ever had issues installing recoveries through Odin. But it wouldn't hurt trying. Out of curiosity, what exactly does it say at the top when you boot into recovery?
Edit: just remembered that if you upgraded to ICS through via OTA, the system reverts back to stock recovery due to code that is imbedded in the ota version of the update. But this code does not exist in the update provided through Kies (what i used). This explains my not needing to do a battery pull during reboot.

As I stated "I just remembered". Confirming your post. So nothing new learned for me lol. It's why I explained why a battery pull may be necessary IF the update was through OTA. If he went through kies, its due to some other reasons. Always best not to make assumptions that's why I asked the questions I did.

get ODIN, install drivers on pc (install kies), go to sammobile website (google it) and download the firmware for your phone/carrier/country
enter in recovery mode, wipe data, format system, preload and emmc (will format your internal sdcard)
enter in download mode, endt all task linked to kies programs, plug your phone to the pc
open ODIN, u should see a yellow box saying COM: some number (number of your usb port), if so your good to go
click PDA and select the donwload file (dont forget to unzip it until you get a TAR file), click START
wait and if there isnt any error in the process your phone should reboot to stock, if its stuck jsut enter in recovery mode and wipe data/factory reset and it will boot
Hope this helped, any question ask and for download links too
dont forget to hit thanks

My current recovery doesn't have format system, neither preload and emmc.. Just wipe data... I'm in Jellybam ROM, which came with a CWM based recovery

[ROM][ODIN][TAR] SM-N900P MI3 Stock Restore Tar

Credits: Our thanks to Samsung-Updates.com for posting MI3/MI5.
Until I have time to clean this up I figured I would post this now and we'll update it later.
It's more important to make sure people have this while testing new things.
Samsung-Updates.com has posted MI3 here:
http://samsung-updates.com/details/14398/Galaxy_Note_3_Sprint/SM-N900P/SPR/N900PVPUBMI3.html
MI5 Link:

As usual we're putting it up on Rwilco's repository. I am not doing anything with them though for a few reasons.
1) At the moment neither I or rwilco12 have a device to test with.
2) Given the issues with Knox I am leary in doing anything without addressing #1.
Link to Stock ROMs:

Download, flash in Odin/Heimdall. This current version will wipe your data.
TESTED AND WORKING - Great Work bud!
Any other DL links? Its not downloading anything.. On either link. Thanks
EDIT: Might be on my end I think it is working now. I already did something and messed it up. Very easy fix but I cant believe the n00b mistake I did lol. Oh well
Edit 2: Last one lol but link did work and was able to restore. Thanks!
problem

Yellow Sprint screen? I'm stuck at that one as well... How long did you have to wait?
Have you guys tried wiping data in stock recovery after the full Odin restore?

I don't think this is Kies version so it should wipe.

I'll have a how to video up as soon as it's all said and done. I got my Note 3 two days ago!
Couple questions
I am roped with TWRP but want to reinstall the stock ROM again but keep my recovery and hopefully root.
Will this allow that? I'd so how do I flash it?
Also saw this was MI3 if I do flash this can I update to MI5 again after?

Mine was stuck on the yellow sprint screen. I went in the stock recovery and wiped data, and after that it loaded up perfect. So if you are stuck on the sprint screen, try that and it might help you.
Here is a Direct link hosted on my server nice and fast

ok i went ahead an tryed to restore to stock with this because some how my sprint apps got removed when i was messing with root
anyways it worked i ran it in odin as pda with only auto reboot and f reset time check which worked perfectly besides it was a upgrade an not a restore like i thought so my sprint apps are still gone
although it did let me update to m15 with out getting a your device is modified error

How did you get it to upgrade to m15?

After using the tar it takes a minute to boot up once it did I went thru the setup like a new phone the first time it didn't do it booted from where it left off but sense I factory reset the second time it was like a new start up
Anyways I just connected my wifi and skipped everything else went to system update clicked to check for updates an it was already downloading the 19mb m15 update

i redownloaded the rom twice and have had the same result. I am using TWRP. i think ill use odin, update the ROM though OTA and reroot and install TWRP again. don't know why my phone is being dumb and not booting the ROM, just bought this beast and i wanna play around with it
