[Q] Change the 4x4 home screen grid to 5x5, possible? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There seems to be enough screen space to fit 5x5 icons on the homescreens instead of 4x4.
What's the easiest way to do this on a stock SGS3?

I don't think there are any mods yet to change the stock TW launcher. You might want to check out Apex Launcher or Nova Launcher if you haven't already.

In fact, TW is already modded...
Here

Or just install another launcher such as Go Launcher.

I tried out Nova (free) for a few days, have uninstalled due to:
- icons sometimes take a while to reappear.
- Calendar / S Planner widget sometimes takes a long time to populate.
The TW mods appear to need root... so I'm back to stock TW, and realizing that I don't need more than 4x4 that badly.

Which home application do you use ?

I use LaunchPro instead of TouchWiz and I'm very satisfied,
I can configure more rows / icons than so graphics looks better, I can configure dock (2 or 3 docks also with gesture support) and better support for App2sd after reboot.
What do you use as your home enviroment ?
i use GO Launcher is very fast and simple
I use Stock TouchWiz, i've tried ADWLauncher, LauncherPro and GoLauncher, both a bit too slow for me.. But i'll give i5510's touchwiz launcher à try (For the Landscape support \o/).
The LG Optimus launcher is awesome too, but it doesn't work well on the i5800... it needs some work

depends on which version of LaunchPro do you use,
I use LaunchPRo and I think it's not slower than TW
but I was trying Go Launcher - and the phone was slower
I use zeam launcher, dock is my favorite

can you create there activities like in LauncherPro ? I think that activities and gestures with dock are the best features of Launcher Pro. And Icons 5x4 looks better then 4x4 or 5x5

Yes, i tested with older firmwares. But i will check it out with JPA
EDIT:
Apps exploring is very fast in LaunchePro but vertical scrolling doesn't likes me, i prefer horizontal.
I use LauncherPro. 8.2. Extremely fast and responsive....

go launcher is great. with ios like features.....
i have used every home replacement, but surely this is diff.
home orientation change is the fastest among all the launchers..
i have go launcher only and uninstalled all launchers even tw launcher thru titanium backup.....
I prefer them in this order :
ADW Launcher (hiding dock and resizable widgets are my favourites)
Go Launcher (a very complete package but consumes a lot of battery)
Launcher Pro (activities and swipe gestures are favourites here)
Zeam (very light weight)
Live Home (3D awesome effects)
I have all of them and keeps changing (killing all other through Task Manager) as per my mood
Launcher Pro is the best of all....

ADW and then Go Launcher.
Zeam when I am running low on resources
Launcher Pro and Live Home when I need beauty over substance
And I did not like GingerBread launcher. Its just bland for its size

No adw???
Apex?
Zeam?
rosie?
ADW Launcher Ex, until Apex...now I am loving Apex over ADW Ex, for these reasons:
-Folder Styling (Circle/Square/layered etc..) maintains when added to the dock. ADW uses the 3 icons spread out, with a vanilla folder background when added to the dock...(maybe I am missing the folder styling when in the dock?)
-Transition Animation "Card Stack". I am tired of the ADW transitions...card stack is a clean refreshing transition that I am enjoying for now...
-Displaying Visual of Widgets in the App Tray. Fantastic!

My personal favorite is Apex, but since it isn't listed, I voted for Nova, which is also cool.
I've tried Launcher Pro, Rosie (obviously), Go Launcher EX, and Nova. I stayed on Go Launcher for a long time, but I decided to try Nova after seeing that it provided gmail unread notifications on the gmail icon. Nova provides more space on my home screen for my Android Agenda Widget. It also seems smoother and faster than Go Launcher. Thus, I am sticking with Nova for now. I've never tried Apex.
simply the best launcher is GoLauncher EX.

If I were you I'd remove rosie. If you have rosie you might as well add touchwiz and motoblur. I'd stick to 3rd party launchers only...

Apex is by far the best of the AOSP-look launchers.
Thank you. Nova Launcher is very smooth and fast except when you fill a page of apps and slide from a page to another. Can you tell me if is it possible change lockscreen to another similar Cyanogenmod 9 to?

Looking for a launcher with folders in a drawer

I really like the new TW launcher in latest leaked JB and I would use it on daily basis if it would support multi dpi settings.. but it doesn't so I'm looking for a launcher that is similar to TW.
Specifically I'm looking for a launcher that as smooth as Apex or Nova but but supports folders within application drawer. The only I know of is GO but its so overloaded that I don't want to use it really. Apex, Nova don't support folders in a drawer do they. I've got 100+ apk on my phone so don't want to scroll through them each time i'm looking for something.
And there as dozens on the market so don't fancy installing every single launcher just to check whether it supports folders or not.
Any suggestions anyone?
The stock launcher support folder in app drawer but I think it's buggy (some apps get scattered on reboot for me). The paid version of nova support folders too, idk about apex.

Yup, Nova Launcher Prime says that it has folder support, didn't test it yet.
Nova launched prime defo has folders in app drawer and they work well

As I said stock TW is good for me but doesn't support 180 dpi which I'm using at the moment.
Thank you for directing me to Nova. Had prime for long time but didn't realized it supports folders. It's going to be my main launcher for now, folders works really good and its blazing fast, just as TW on JB.

[Q] transparent APP DRAWER background

Hey guys. I've been searching a way to make the CM 10.1 app drawer background become transparent. Can someone help me out?
I've followed some tuts (such as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835833) but they only teach how to make the notification bar transparent.
Thanks

I've tried launchers before. They worked, but I'd like to edit Trebuchet. I'd like to use default launcher. I'm not really into launchers
Ty
Apex and nova both have this option and are both based on the stock launcher, they just have a lot more features. They look identical to stock if all you change is the drawer transparency

Try both they both offer virtually the same features I use nova launcher, but thats cos I got the prime version in an app sale
Nova(https://play.google.com/store/apps/...gle&utm_medium=organic&utm_term=nova+launcher)
Apex ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/...gle&utm_medium=organic&utm_term=apex+launcher)

ty very much! I'll use apex cause it's free. Maybe I'll move for nova pro later.
Both have free versions and an add on that costs money but adds lots of features
