Does Smart Stay drain the batter?

bump
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA

Shouldn't be any different to leaving the screen on when using it. When the screen is on its using battery, smart stay would just work much the same way only you don't go need to unlock the screen every 1 minute.

Activates just before your screen timeout. An eye icon will appear on the status bar for approx 1 sec and either display off or remain on for another timeout.

Ya except now you are engaging the ffc consistently
Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk 2

From what I've seen it only fires up the ffc just before the screen was due to sleep, to check you're still looking, so better than constantly tracking your eyes.

Exactly as in my previous post.
Based on that, (probably) any additional battery used is negligible.

Phone freezes/lockups up, I restart and then battery drops 15+%

Title pretty much says it all. I have a stock, i777 running on 2.3.6 and yesterday out of the blue, the phone would lock up (not respond to any touches on the screen, the power button or the volume rocker) so I would pull the battery out and restart it. When I did, the battery would drop off like 15%.
I did a search but didn't find any relevant issues. Many people simply complained about battery drops after regular restarts, not after freezes.
Would greatly appreciate some help!
Same thing, it has to do with the fuel guage of the phone
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
I hate when that happens. Is there anything to do? I'll go from like 85% to 10 after a crash. Does that fubar the battery? Cause it does charge all over again

In my experience this evens out after another charge or two.

U didn't say whether u were rooted or not. So I'm assuming you aren't? Which means screen lock ups aren't from undervolting?
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2
Read this and see if it helps..Entropy explains why the battery gets crazy after a reboot. I would assume it would be the same if you had to pull the battery, the gauge i guess would still get reset.

I said I was stock in the first post. Is there something else you need to know? Just to clarify, I haven't modded/rooted/etc. Still on stock 2.3.6 w/ Touchwiz.
The battery issue isn't the major issue, it's the freezing of the phone multiple times a day. Is there a diagnostic tool I can use that will show a log of the processes that were running when the phone froze? That could help me narrow down the issue.

I think you can avoid the battery level glitch by plugging in a charger before you reboot.
Maybe the freezes are being caused by a rogue app. I can't remember what the app is called at the moment, but there is one app that monitors cpu usage and can warn you if an app is using too much cpu time.
Watchdog and betterbatterystats. Yes u can monitor apps. But I wouldn't think an app would just start doing that out of the blue. Hmm. Its really hard to tell ya what to do if you aren't even rooted, may wanna think about doing that. Opens up a lot more options for fixing / monitoring.

Restarts are a [email protected] on battery. Every system app hits at same time. The way charge stays in batt. Anything under about half on batt charge...it will seem to drain quicker. Its the chemical makeup of batt that does it. Think of bubbles in soda bottle... More full bottle more fizz more bang. Less soda... Less bang.... And flat. Keep off any widgets ....they tap batt constantly as well as data...which hits batt. Ahh Physics and Chemistry, love it.

I don't think the sudden drop in battery is anything to worry about. My phone does that but the battery level slowly gets higher over time without charging. The actual charge level in the battery doesn't change.
Had the same exact thing happen sort of mine would heat up, freeze, then shut off, restart all by itself but it would hard reset. So my question is, Is it a brand new device or refeb? I got a referb and had the same thing at first it would freeze then after a while it would start heating up then resetting itself. So call warranty dept and ask for a replacement device and not a new battery.

Touch Screen Calibration

Is there a way to calibrate the screen?
Sometimes mine will act possessed and have phantom touches. Alot of times I try to touch the back arrow, or the menu key and it registers the touch for one of the apps in my dock.

Is you device plugged into the charger when this happens?
On the Razr, the screen would sometimes act up when it was charging, but unplugging it solved the problem.
If it is when your charging then you have an incompatible charger
You need an 1 amp charger

i have noticed this if there is a little bit of water on the screen or a moist part that it does that. the fix is to shut the screen off, dry it, and turn it back on again and you should be good
I also had problems with a 3rd party lockscreen (eg. GO Locker) causing the multitouch to be messed up, but that's probably not the problem you're having.
If your under warranty then send it in

Your battery is okay. You probably turned your screen too bright or viewing your screen in bright environment. Leaving brightness in auto give slightly more than 2 hours screen time with 3G and push all on.

Battery drain might be bcoz of Jelly bean update itself. I've had my S3 for three months, battery lasted me for 2 days until I updated to jellybean. Now 5 % goes every hour even without using it. I'm sure an update will come out to fix this
If you are still using stock mod, have you removed any bloatware? Take a look in Apps/Running Apps to see weather or not your battery drain is being caused by unwanted/unused applications.

I'm not saying his screen shot isn't real it's just I don't trust people's screen shots as I can take a screen shot of up to 50 hours by basically plugging in my phone and not letting it reach 100% then unplugging it back to 20% then back to 80% and so on.
I'd love to have 18 hours at 50% by playing games and using internet and making calls and other uses but don't think that's possible.

Do a hard reset and use your phone for 2-3 days without installing any apps. If your problem persists you have a faulty device. Here is my battery life using insert coin:

This is because you have wifi/data off when the screen is off.

Nothing in your first post stated that my screen shot was fake, even if you did, your statement would still be wrong.
Also if I was an idiot to do what you would,(In bold). The graph in my first screen shot wouldn't be decreasing from (start, finish). It would have shown spikes of increasing.
I think you just really need to read better, and stop assuming everyone lie about their battery screen shots.
There's no point for most others and I to do that,
I posted my screen shots with a simple intention to help OP to achive better battery life on his SGS3.
As I know the phone has the potential.
Thus the reason I stated "using latest wanam lite with persus kernal".
Then you chime in with all these non sense.
I know I have probably wasted 5 minutes of my time writing this as you probably will just ignore the facts.
But as you are a senior member on XDA so please,
The least contribution you can make is by not plaguing XDA with false information and negativity.

Well maybe when you post screen shots you can explain what you used it for instead of just posting a screen shot and going away.
More information is more helpful and will give people a more understanding.
I've seen people in here boasting and showing screen shots of 35 hours but giving no information of how, what battery they used or how they used their phone or what settings they used and when I asked got no reply.
Your screen shot didn't really show much to be honest other than you used a custom Rom.
Lastly I never said yours was fake but just wanted more information.

Its not 18 hours at 50% but its certainly possible to achieve good battery life playing games and using Internet etc.
See screen shots below.

Media looks high to me on your screenshot. You may have the media server wake lock draining battery.
As a temporary solution force close the media server. It should be OK until you reboot. Then you will need to close it again.
Some people (myself included) have had success in overcoming this by formatting the external SD.
Good luck

Uhm, that is awesome, especially given your use of Chrome, Facebook and YouTube.
It'd be nice to see the wake lock graph from the second battery screen, but I'd say your looking quite good. Also wondering the brightness level (auto, 50 percent, &c).
Aside from these few items of curiosity, overall a very good baseline. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, I will have both running concurrently or manually switch, but deep sleep app is one that'll provide the means for those two bars to halt and then come back on when your phone screen is off long enough. The bars for WiFi and network would have breaks in them if no items pushed through (messages, phone calls, &c).
Also, check to see if WiFi scanning during sleep mode is set to either never or only when plugged in (from settings choose WiFi, menu, advanced) instead of always. Another item in that submenu (there are a ton of WiFi options on this phone) is automatically switching from mobile network to WiFi. You can try it on or off to see which works best for you.
These merely delay the inevitable...devs and the manufacturer can provide tools to assist with battery drain while your screen is off, but they can do little to help with power draw while your phone is awake, since how you use it drives much of the depletion rate.
That extra capacity battery is pretty awesome, but how much extra time you get from it depends a lot on how you use your phone.
Hope this helps.

Screen won't shut off?

So I'm starting to notice that my screen will not shut off unless I shut it off with the power button...I have it set to shut off after 30secs...but after that time the screen only dims down and doesn't shut off to the lock screen...I have nothing set up like no auto brightness or anything...seems like a reboot will fix it for awhile but then it does it again...even on charger it'll just dim down and not shut off...am I missing something here? :/

My only guess is maybe if you're using a different launcher it could mess up the screen timeout.
I'm using the LG 4.0 launcher from their website...the phone will be fine after a reboot for awhile and then it will do it again...I've already factory reset it...is there a way to check wakelocks without root? Bc even when the screen is off I notice my battery drops like I don't think it should so I'm wondering if it's a rogue app causing issues tho I have the same apps on here that I had on my g3 without problems...

Although it sounds like this is probably happening when you aren't charging as well, I use the "Stay awake" located in "Developers options" to keep my screen on while plugged in (this does not affect time out when not plugged in). It dims but does not turn off with this setting. It may be worth checking if this option is ticked for you.
As others have said, there is a possibility of the launcher interfering, or perhaps whatever app you are currently running.
Restarting is not a sane solution, so I'd suggest if all else fails, perhaps seeing if this would be covered under warranty.

I am facing the same problem like yours, did u get any solution for it?
I also had the same issue. What I did was I went to the battery settings ang manually stop each app listed in the battery usage. And as what I've observed, the app causing it is Spotify. I don't know why spotify does this though.
Has this ever been solved?
