HQ Camera mod port 40mbps video recording - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I just came to the EVOLTE from my htc sensation. On the sensation, a developer had made a hack for the camera, that allowed it to record at 40 megabytes per second. I'm not sure what the EVOLTE records at, but I know that the video quality coming out of my sensation with this hack was much better than with my evo. Is it possible to be able to port this mod to the evo?

Look on youtube for "sensation 40 mbps" and you can see the amazing video quality that it made the camera have.

That looks pretty slick. I too would be interested in trying this out.

pm SteelH and ask him

I say about 30 is the sweet spot. 40 could be a little to big of a file. Right now in low light its around 6-7 and in nice lit up room at around 10-11 at 1080p. Using camera ics in the play store brings the bit rate to double the stock HTC camera app when set to 2x.

Check out this comparison.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLvmhm9tzXQ
Other than our EVO is recording in low bitrate. But I like it better than the gs3. Gs3 to ME seem to over expose it a lot where as some part of the building is all wash out, as well as the brick street. Our EVO could be a little blurry but still look better especially the indoor shot. Check out the video and see what you think. Now with a mod like raising the bitrate it will definitely show what this EVO New camera is all about.

[1:17pm] SteelH: tickle: what does it do that we dont have alreay? we have native 1080p
[1:17pm] SteelH: other than increased bitrates?
[1:18pm] ticklemepinks: records at 40 mbps
[1:18pm] SteelH: yeah thats increased bitrate
[1:18pm] SteelH: likely an xml edit
[1:18pm] ticklemepinks: yeah that lol
[1:18pm] SteelH: IIRC
[1:18pm] ticklemepinks: could u figure it out, i know u could if anyone can lol
[1:19pm] SteelH: i have little time these days
[1:19pm] SteelH: ill try and look at it thursday perhaps
[1:19pm] SteelH: *if i finish with my own phone
[1:20pm] ticklemepinks: lol ok thanks
[1:21pm] SteelH: yea it looks fairly simple actually
[1:21pm] SteelH: stock is 12mbps
[1:21pm] SteelH: <Video codec="h264"
[1:21pm] SteelH: bitRate="12000000"
[1:22pm] SteelH: ill need to test it out first though

cant we just change that little 12 to a 40 and be done with it? lol

uhhhh-mazing!!
would love to see the LTE's 30-40mbps videos.
gotta be beautiful.

Guys. I didnt take the time (yet) to look at the file posted, but I'm pretty sure It's system/etc/mediaprofiles.xml
I know you just change the values. Just replicate it. I removed compression on mine yesterday, but kinda looked more grainy.
Check Me Out On The Google Play Store!!!

Glad to see so many peeps on this. It really made a world of difference. These small image sensors are very susceptible to noise, so modifying anything with its light gathering ability will make it noisy, But this mod if seems affects more of the post-sensor hardware's abilities and therefore should not significantly effect noise or distortion. If anything, it will remove that "wobble" effect when you move the camera due to increased bit rate.

Fixed your typo Sorry, it's the ocd cs guy in me lol.
But I had a question since my Evo hasn't come yet. Does it save videos on internal or sd card? And can you alternate between the two easily?

You can switch between phone storage and the sd card in the camera settings.

Just changed the values with rom toolbox which backs up the current XML settings. The wobble effect is gone. I can upload 2 test videos later tonight to YouTube to decide for yourselves.

Please do.
I just made the changes tonight but won't really have anything interesting to record till next weekend.
This was with old settings - not a whole lot of wobble to be seen. I was actually fairly impressed. Take that, go pro!
(filmed in mexico, naturally)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=siUVpg7YLB4cp

My experience: I used Rom Toolbox Pro to edit the media_profiles.xml file. I changed the max bitrates on 1080p and 720p from "12000000" to "40000000", the min bitrates to "12000000", bumped the framerate to min30/max60 (just wishing) and the max audio bitrates from "96000" to "160000". Saved the XML, rebooted the phone. Recorded two 1 minute videos (one at 720p, the other at 1080p). Moved the files to my desktop and used GSpot to get the video information and the video bitrate was around 9700kbits/s and the audio bitrate was 96000 and the framerate was 23fps. Therefore, I believe that manually editing the XML does not actually change anything or the framerate changes I made negated the bitrate changes. I may try lowering the max to 20MBits tomorrow for more testing. I'm running freEVO 1.1.

So this definitely doesn't work then?

I wouldn't necessarily say that. Just give the community awhile to either make it work or "trial-and-error" it to work. Patience is a virtue!

I will say that increasing the bitrates and framerates decreased the "wobble" or screen tearing that the stock settings have. At least it's a move in the right direction.

1080p For the EVO 3D?

So now the evo 3d has been succesfully rooted, could it be possible to get 1080p recording on the EVO 3D??
I would like to know as well.
Based on the performance of 720p recording I don't think I'd even want to see how choppy 1080 would look. The SoC is indeed very capable of handling it but I think it is limited based on storage write limitations not to mention the sensor's lighting conditions. Even if we could write 24fps (def not 30fps) in all but perfect lighting we wouldn't even be getting 24fps from the sensor...likely under 10 most of the time based on how 720p recordings average out.
...but then again I could (hopefully) be very wrong.

i think you might speak the truth there is a reason HTC didnt include this, after all.
Yes we have all the hardware capable of doing so, I'm sure it will get implemented in many upcoming roms. 720p recording is just bad programming on HTC's fault. We will get it ironed out .

I tend to agree..unless it is a sensor limitation..obviously the soc is capable of it since the sensation does it very well..I believe most issues that ppl have with photos/videos is software related..I actually like the video quality that I achieve with my e3d..and sound recording is much improved over It's predecessor

I have a $99 point-n-shoot that does 720p video that mops the floor with what I can get from my E3D.
Considering it's a cellphone, yes it takes fantastic video. However if we are going to rationalize the video quality with the qualifier "for a cellphone" then wouldn't we do the same and just agree that 720p is enough "for a cellphone"?
I do a lot of video work at my job and one thing I have seen personally and from everyone that has to review and approve my work....most people won't notice a lower resolution but people will most certainly notice lower frame rate, especially below 24fps. Lower resolution with perfectly smooth video wins over a lot more people than a super sharp super high resolution video with less than ideal frame rate. I'd prefer someone gets a rock-solid 30fps fix in place before or instead of a 1080p recording resolution...
...but that's just me.

Oh I'm not.disagreeing with that..id much rather have a smooth 720 p video than a choppy 1080p. I dont think any phone does 1080p justice..I'm totally fine with 720 I was just commenting on the possibility of it being able to be done on our phones..imo 720p still needs Alot of work . Btw didn't u send u e3d back? Are u gonna get it back since root or are u hold out for the gs2

Yeah, I could only take 2 weeks of the EVEN WEAKER NS4G radio...I'm back...though SGS2 is still a possibility and the nPrime is for certain.
The 720P has really impressed me so far. I even tried it out at night a few times, including moving it with quick movements in my car, and I didn't see any blurring or chop. I did find out that every so often I might get some chop on playback, but it was due to a hanging app, and restarting the device solved that problem.
Wasn't 1080p advertised when not using 3d?

The Evo 4G+ Is practically the Evo3d and its got 1080p recording in its release specs..But so did our 3D before release.
I personally don't see the need for 1080p recording, the software sucks and doesn't even do 720p very good.I leave it on qHD resolution.

Just moved from s2 to evo 3d help / advice & movie conversion

Well I've been looking at the evo 3d for a while and I've just ordered one off Amazon UK to use on my three UK account.
It is due to arrive on Tuesday can't wait.
I have a couple of questions if you can help
The 3d cameras is it easy just to point and click or do you need to take it at a certain angle ?
If I want to use 3d films which I own which is the best way to convert for the ego ?
I use to have the sensation (I change my phones like my socks as I've not found the perfect phone yet but have high hopes about the 3d) the sensation had battery problems and awful lag has this been sorted with the 3d ? You tube videos show the evo being very smooth but is it ?
How good is the camera the s2 has a perfect camera but there are also loads of negatives
Lastly and this IM sure wont be clear cut will I regret moving from s2 to there evo 3d ?
Thanks in advance

3D is easy to use, must shoot landscape.
Handbrake works quite well for conversion, if you want to see a movie I did with handbrake, hit me up on IRC.
Most of the ROMs have been through several revisions, I would say lag and battery are not issues at this point.
Well no camera is perfect, there have been quite a few MODs done to the E3D camera by myself and several others. The front facing camera can do 2MP now.
And switching phones... Well if you don't like regular updates, Samsung is your best best...

I had Samesung S2 as well but had to return it to CPW as it has blue/yellow tint on the screen and red spot when taking pictures.
As for E3D's 3D camera you just point and shoot and prepare to be amazed. 2D is ok as long as you don't use the auto setting.
I use 4videosoft blueray ripper to convert 3d films. It is easy to use.
Never had a sensation so don#t know about its performance. On E3D everything is working as it should be- Fast and furious.
Be warned, there isn't a lot of preloaded 3D contents on UK's E3D. Only few pictures and that's it. No movie, no video clips, no games, no nothing. But there are tones of 3D stuff on youtube - just search yt3d. Or just go out and start shooting yourself. I still can't believe how good the 3D photos look on the phone( not too brilliant on big screen TV tho as it is only 2megapixel). 3D gaming is fun also.

That's correct. But you still have to take the battery cover out, it is a bit silly really. I miss how it was designed on the Windows mobile 6 where sd card is easily accessible by place it on the side of the phone.

No Green Hornet I am afraid, at least not on my phone. Battery consumption is really heavy on this phone, especially when taking 3D pictures roughly 800 -900mA because it uses both cameras. I usually only get 4-5 hours of heavy ussage. I can't not understand when people say their phone lase whole day when taking 3d photos videos and play games all the time. It is just not possible.
I went out having lunch with friends yesterday. Playing music 50 minutes , videos 5 mins and taking 25 3d photos, let m8s play with the phone for like 15 minutes. 5 hours later I have 7% battery left. If I play 3d games constantly, the battery will not last longer than 3 hours, about the same I got with Desire HD. In standby 8-15% drop over 6-8 hours period. There is not a lot of custom roms for GSM 3D to play about atm. Hopefully it will catches on.
As for 2d photo setting, sharpness + 1 helps a lot in general, under low light up the exposure rather than iso, other setting you just have to play it a bit and see what suit your taste the best. My conclusion about photo is doesn't matter how good a 2D photo is, it is never going to be as realistic as a 3D one.
Excellent thanks mine is out with royal mail this morning can't wait ... Tee the battery thats not bad for all that use s2 would last half that !

Audio testing done...also...Is there an alternate video recording app bsides stock?

Question is, is there one? Reason....first, the video is excellent but the audio codec encodes horribly and the resulting videos sound track is horrible. That damn compression noise from super low audio bitrates is horrible. And that beeping noise, im almost certain it comes from the sound cancellation settings. You get the same compression and beeping noise when you use the built in voice recorder app in the AAC method.. I downloaded an app from the market labeled "Microphone". Basically it feeds all sound from the mic directly to the speaker or headphones (supposed to use headphones and it works as a sound amplifier with a headset on) . While testing that, I did not hear that horrible compression noise, but...when I turned something on with louder low frequency noises such as my car or the stereo, I would notice that beeping noise. So it appeared that a sound cancellation setting was responsible for the beeping.
So I tried a few other apps. RecForge Lite mainly...after making numerous test recordings and pksybacks, I have observed that there is no compression noise in the recordings generated by RecForge Lite. I have also noticed there is NO beeping noises either. The recordings were very clean and high quality.
So...I have searched for an alternate video recording app in the market..gahhhh, I cant find one. I want to record video without that horrible noise, now that I know its possible.
lol i feel ya. we went through this months ago when it came out. go in development if you're rooted and flash Joes hq camera mod. it helps a bit with the compression but it still isn't perfect.

Shutting down noise cancellation in the build prop does not help. It's HTC software... It's way deep into their system too. ICS camera in the market does an ok job of recording video and audio.

That ICS cam, is it just for ICS or can it be used in other versions of Android? Rooted necessary?
Ah yes our old nemesis - Rezound noise cancellation...
There's another camera/camcorder app on the market I tried a couple months ago when this came up, lgCamera (I think it works on GB and ICS). It has settings galore, probably not all of which are supported on the Rezound. I see it's been updated since I last tried it. I honestly don't remember how much of an improvement it made with the audio track but it's worth a try:

Oh yeah, you can change the video and audio bitrates. Change audio sample rate and other things as well. Tho, you will have to play with the bit rates a bit as some of them cause corrupt video files (noted - if the video freezes but the recording timer still counts, it will be a corrupt vid. Use a different bitrate. Note, dont use too low of audio bitrate with a high sample rate). Im still testing it out. Fix that video zoom glitch and it blows the stock camera out of the water. The only thing the stock cam has against this is the shutter lag time. Stock cam, pic taking is nearly instant, with lgcamera there is a half second lag. Not too bad tho. You dont take action shots with your phone lol .
Edit - NO idea why it quoted killahrey ...... :s

Fix that video zoom glitch and it blows the stock camera out of the water. what settings in video did you use that cleared it up without corruption?

1080p recording

Hi ,I was wondering if its possible to still somehow modify the soft to make it run on ics or jb,cause im pretty sure its hardware would allow it. Btw i remember that there was an amaze camera gingerbread thread with some alpha mod.
Our phone is not designed, nor fully capable for 1080p goodness. Sorry. Previous programs, and some old ROMs had the option, but was found to be unstable and pointless.

What about this? http://darkroms.com/darksense-3d/
BTW, I dont know whether it works or not.
What about it?
Everything I've read says that the maximum video resolution on the Evo 3D is 720P even though the Sensation and One S C2 with similar processor and memory specs record at 1080P. There must have been some trade-off required for deploying 3D cameras.
OTOH, this is a very interesting comparison. Although the videos on the other phones are higher resolution, the colors in the Evo 3D sample are much closer to the original, especially the blue on the ferris wheel gondola.
Edit: Judging by the red gondola at the bottom of both 1080p stills versus the green gondola at the bottom of the 720p still it looks like they weren't too careful about positioning things the same way for all phones, but the blue background color still looks more true on the Evo 3D.

It shows coming soon.
Sent from my Evo 3D GSM using xda app-developers app
:good:
probably not
waaaaay back when this phone was announced they made a mistake and said it had 1080p recording, but then change it to 720p. and yeah i agree that the 3D probably has something to do with it, so I don't think there's any way to get 1080p recording on it

Is there a solution for 2d 1080p video recording on the EVO 3D?

I was wondering if there is any solution (like rom or cam app) that allows for 2D 1080p video recording on the EVO 3D?
Thanks in advance.
Nobody helps anyone here, that's the point.

THERE IS An evo3d 1080P CAMERA APK APP I SAW OUT THERE. I MAY HAVE A COPY SOMEWHERE. I (oops caps) am waiting for a battery to see if my Evo3D Will come back to life. So I can use it as a Dedicated Telescope EYepiece Cam.. I will try to remember to update here if it works..
No one here will help you, there are ACTUAL LISTS Of Reasons People WIll BE IGNORED for asking Questions and the list is always Extensive.. They insist that if it took THEM a YEAR to come up with a SOLUTION it must a take a YEAR (OR MORE) for you to find it here in this NIGHTMARE LABYRYNTH OR GET ANY HELP! I only found the APK by random deep searching.. There is another APK too that is for the Still Camera. Looks to be 3D and 2D Maybe??
I have money, I don't care abut this place any more now I'm just trying to help the people they ABUSE .... I'll just buy a 4K Ultra HD Camera for my Eyepiece (or use my NOTE 5 when I upgrade from my Note 4, it has RAW IMAGE SUPPORT!) that has exquisite abilities..
I just thought since a place like this exists maybe they can help me (LOLOL LOLOL LOL LOL LOLOLOL LOL) get more use out of my old Evo 3D,. They are JERKS here though. SOME OF THE MOST TIME WASTING AND RUDEST ANSWERRS I HAVE EVER SEEN IN ANY FORUM AND THATS SAYING SOMETHING! It makes their WEANING EGOS feel less SUFFOCATING when they make other people wait for simple info. I have been a Hollywood Animator for 25 Years and we FX creators and CGI developers SHARE INFO Confidently, we do not HORDE it to make ourselves FEEL BETTER...
I am new to the Evo 3D, I am wating for mine to be delivered so i am learning as much as possible, I found the thread below, it might help.
