Which country is this? I've only ever seen the sgp sold with 2.2 or 2.3. Try updating through kies, and yes flashing a new rom will remove your old one

Do you have any specific reason why you want to upgrade to 3.0? There are plenty of 4.0 (ICS) roms in the development section. If you want tablet ui there is a tablet mode rom too.

Are you sure they're being sold with Android 3.0? Android 3.0 is for tablets, and it specifically wasn't made Open Source by google so that people wouldn't try to bring it to devices under 7" screen size (10" originally).

+1, the only 3.0 related to these players I can find is BLUETOOTH 3.0. Are you sure the website didn't just use a crappy translator program, or are you sure about the legitimacy of the site/place you saw this?

Yes I'm sure. The store is BUG so as you can understand the store is reliable.
I didn't saw it over the Internet i got their magazine and saw it.

This is correct. No handset device (and the SGP 5.0 and 4.0 are closer to handsets than tablets) was ever offered with Honeycomb.

I still think someone screwed up (the guy that wrote that add, most likely), looking at that picture the camera and the UI are identical to the Gingerbread releases, unless you can go to the store and look at a display model and take a pic of the system info showing 3.0 honeycomb, I just can't believe it.

Android 3.0 requires a minimum 7" screen size and that was only possible once 3.2 was released, see article below

+1 for the mistake in the ad...
That UI looks GB all the way.
I have devices with HC and, although not an expert, I can tell that what the picture shows is not a HC UI.
Plus I have hardtime believing that Samsung developed a HC build just for the Israel market.
If camera issues are keeping you from upgrading to ICS, you should stay with the Eryigit rom. I have that rom loaded on my other players and it's a good rom.
BTW, if you upgrade to any version of any rom, you will loose your current rom... to answer one of your questions.

Looks pretty slick.... ics only.... I assume they will make a version for gb phones.
Sucks it's ICS only. Any ideas on why it took them so long to get the ball going for this on Android? I assume ICS got the first release because of hardware acceleration, but you'd think they'd have a previously working version looooong ago.
Does anyone have the APK? We can try and install it anyways...

That's because ICS was a major upgrade from Gingerbread, especially at the kernel level. It was more of a rewrite than an upgrade.
Hence, this is looking for ICS libraries. It's possibly also looking for an ICS kernel which we don't have AND won't have unless Verizon decides to release ICS for the X2.
We are at the mercy of Verizon on this one.
Remember, CM9 will still have the GB kernel, not an ICS one since we cannot replace the kernel due to the locked bootloader. Again, at the mercy of Verizon AND Motorola on the locked bootloader.
I've been waiting for Chrome on Android for the entire time I've had an Android (about a year and a half). I just came across an article about on another website, read the whole thing with excitement, and then shot a baby when I read it was only for ICS. WTF?! That's very disappointing to me. Any thoughts as to why they did that? Maybe because it's beta and wanted limited exposure at first?
If they just now started working on getting chrome out then it really doesn't make sense to release it on gingerbread and ics. I would expect that it would be released for their newer os rather than the one that is going to be phased out. Maybe once they get all the bugs worked out they will release a version usable on gingerbread, so phones that won't be updated, or even new phones that aren't as powerful as the phones sporting ics, will be able to use it.

Because we are stuck on the gingerbread kernel, CM9 may not work unless Motorola releases ICS for DX2. As stated earlier, apk needs libraries from the ICS kernel. The only other option is to hack the actual apk.

I need advice about which galaxy player to buy? The 4.0 looks nice, but maybe I should wait for the 4.2, or get a 5.0? I'm confused.
Either 4.2 will come ready with gingebread but hasnt got much hardware improvements so theyre equal.

Yes, if you read the other (new) thread about the 4.2 device, you can see that it will be launched with android 2.3
I got the 5.0 because I already have a 4.3" phone.
The 4.0 has a better sound chipset and replacable battery. The 5.0 has a bigger screen and seems to have slightly more developer attention.

The galaxy player deception :-(.

When the SGP came out i was so excited to buy, and when i bought it, i tried to plug it in to my tv via mhl and to use ps3 controller on it...but it didin't work, so a grabed the nokia rca cable, didin't work either. I got mad at my brother because he is the one that told me to buy the SGP and he said that it does have tv out suport and usb host, but it dosen't. Anyways i have moved on and bought the Samsung Galaxy tab 7.0 plus, and it satisfy me all my needs such as playing games on tv, use usb controllers, mice, keyboard, flash drives etc.
Sorry about my horrable english and please don't laugh if something is written wrong. Thanks
Sent from my YP-G70 using XDA
Well, maybe that's a lesson to do a little of your own research before you go buy a expensive electronic device! Seriously though, it is too bad that there is no TV out, USB host I can live without. Btw, you can still use a ps3 remote, Google 'sixaxis controller Android'. All you need is a PC with Bluetooth to pair it, I beleive. I haven't actually used it as I don't have a ps3, but I, think other people with sgp have.

In my eyes, Samsung's deception is not even attempting an ICS update for a $200-$300 device that came out only months ago...
Then again, I'd rather use a community-developed ROM anyhow. In all my experience they run faster and more stable.

[Q] iOS on android?

IMO, though it looks real there is no way as far as i know to port IOS to an android device. I must be one of those chinese devices that "combine" everything.
TV, Phone, Mp3 player, Coffe maker etc. Maybe just the case is HTC-like and the "screen" is a fake Iphone!

[Q] Best Samsung Player 5 {rooted} Gingerbread ROM

I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction to a download link for the best and most complete and rooted Gingerbread ROM for the Samsung Galaxy 5.0 Player.
The one I am using was one that I believe someone used Superclick and repackaged from the stock Gingerbread OS that originally came with the device. It appears to me that it has some stability issues since it gets stuck with access files and will not boot up. I use clockword mod to restore from a good backup. As far as I can tell, the data area is where the problem is, but I can't get anymore granular than that. If I reboot half a dozen times, one of the boots will work correctly. The device will exhibit no problems whatsoever until the next power off/on.When that happens, I get frozen at the click to unlock screen.
I'd like to use Clockwork Mod to install the latest and greatest rooted Gingerbread ROM and hopefully this "corruption" issue will be resolved...maybe.
I'm also open to any other ideas.
