[Q] Is there an app which would allow you to open url links made on PC? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since shortcuts for web pages made on PC cannot be used to launch the browser on Android and open those web page links, is there an app which would allow you to browse files on your Android and then directly open url web page link shortcuts?

I use Opera on my PC, and Opera Mobile on the phone and have linked both using Opera Link. It syncs my history, bookmarks and passwords etc. between both devices. So if I want to open a url i found on pc, I bookmark it and its there on my phone too...

I see what you're saying - on a Windows PC internet shortcuts have a .url extension and when you click on them it opens whatever url is in that shortcut.
I don't think there is an equivalent on Android. I use bettercut which allows me to put shortcuts to browser bookmarks on a home screen or folder - I click on the shortcut and it opens that web page in browser. The website must be bookmarked in your browser however.
I tried putting URLs in a text file - clicking on the text file opens notepad and you click on the url which then opens the website. There's no direct way of clicking on an internet shortcut in a folder on Android though without using the afore mentioned methods. Maybe someone will code an app.

Yeah, if someone ever reads this in the future, pleas post if you came across anything that would allow us to browse through folders and click on url shortcuts created on PC and have them open a web page in any browser.
This has nothing to do with synchronization or previously used links.
This is about random never before seen url shortcuts that you come across inside folders which were originally created on PC and you simply want to open the web page shortcuts inside those folders *directly*.

Check this out, guys: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zapek.android.stuntzurl
Good luck!

u might use chrome to phone if youre using chrome on youre pc
if u are on android 4 download chrome browser from the market it owns a very simple sincronizing function

Although you are a correct, that was not the original question.
Thank you handfish for the link! stuntzurl application allows you to open URL links in a folder on your Android phone with a simple click.

oooh stuntzurl does not work after updating to Android 4.4 KitKat.
If anyone comes across an app that does, please post!

"Toggelis Url Opener" does what you want and it works with Android K, L, M and N.

[Q] open bookmarks with alternate browser???

Hi, does anyone know if it is possible to add a bookmark to the quicklinks but have it open with a browser different to the default one.
I have opera, skyfire and ie installed and would like to have the bookmarks open in the most suitable one.
Thanks
easy, create a normal shortcut to the program, (tested this with opera and iexp,) don't have sky installed but probably works, i think its a browser standard, it works on the pc too.) then copy the shortcut to your pc (or i used notepad for win mobile)
open the .lnk file in notepad, you will see
22#"\Windows\opera9.exe"
then just add a space followed by your url
22#"\Windows\opera9.exe" http://samsamuel.co.uk
or
24#"\Windows\iexplore.exe" http://samsamuel.co.uk
save it, copy back to phone and drop into windows/start menu/programs to be able to assign to quicklinks, or wherever you want to store them.
cool, thanks!!

[Utility] Launcher Stubs for Facebook, Google+, Twitter and Wikipedia

Hi All!
I use my Windows Mobile phone with the Classic Today screen, and use the Easy Today Launcher plug-in to create a grid of icons for my most commonly used applications. This doesn't work very well for IE favorites as I cannot set a custom icon.
To get round this I've created some little programs that simply launch Internet Explorer with the URL I specify, I then add a custom icon to the program and compile it to an executable. I then tell Easy Today Launcher to use my little programs instead.
If you want to use these, download the zipfile below and via Active Sync put them into a folder on your phone. On my phone I use \Program Files\Launcher Stubs.
I've also created a page for these on on my website (which I can't link to due to not having posted enough to XDA but I'm easy to find via Google).
So far the zip contains Facebook, Google+, Wikipedia, and Twitter. The URL that each executable points to is the mobile version of the website.
Happy to answer any questions or simple requests for more stubs...

[Q] How to force web browser login when using my school WiFi??

My school WiFi requires that you visit the website and login before you can have internet access. The problem is that the website doesnt always pop up automatically when I open my browser. I have saved the website to my bookmarks in the past, but even then It won't let me go to it manually (because there is no internet web browser access)
Is there a way to force access of the login page on these types of connections?
You could set up a shortcut to the log in page and make the shortcut what you use to open your web browser on campus.
I've never made a shortcut for a website on Android so I'm not sure if all browsers will support it. But I'm certain there is a way.
What you'd end up with is the log in screen ALWAYS being the landing page when you started the web browser using that shortcut.

I used to do that, the only problem is that sometimes it doesn't work. Sometimes I would go to that page and it wouldn't load because my device doesn't have access to the internet -___-
I need another option, like if there's an app or a way that forces the login page, not just tries to access the URL of said login. You know? It sucks I know -___- lol

lapdock and facebook question

Does anyone know how to stop the lapdock showing the mobile site of facebook rather than the normal one every time i enter wwwdotfacebbokdotcom it loads with m.facebook.com?
create a shortcut in the dock.
no, just tried that sill reverts back to the "m" site ?
are you using the lapdock's firebox browser? or are you using the phone's browser while in lapdock's?
Its when using the firefox lapdock browser or the lapdocks facebook shortcut
Have you tried Dolphin Browser HD? In the initial setup, you can choose what kind of device you'd like the browser to tell the website you're using. Like say for instance, android phone, desktop, ipone, or ipad.
I tried accessing the facebook site from my lapdock's browser and it sent me to the non-mobile site. I don't know what could be going on with yours.
sorry. :\
Potential Fix for this issue
The problem everybody is experiencing develops when the initial request is sent to the Facebook server and the "user agent" string is sent. By default, the user agent string is set to Android, but can be set to Chrome Desktop to allow a full website experience. Some website's written or optimized for a specific browser may still disregard this setting, but Facebook does not, and will display the full site ... I have the laptop dock and this works.
In the firefox browser, go to the add-ins page and search "user agent". Install one of them and select "firefox 4" from the new menu. Reload the page and it should show the full version instead of the mobile version of the page.
You need to use a user agent spoof add-in to tell the facebook server that you are a full web browser and not a mobile web browser.
I have tried the top 3 user agent programs and connot find the firefox 4 option.
You say you have to spoof the web page, when I first used it it worked fine, and other users all say theirs work fine too without messing with the settings.
I have also done a hard reset on the phone so its not that, it must be somthing in the lapdock, -
question can the lapdock be reset in any way, I know it has nothing inside as such but pehaps there is somthing in there?
Install the add-on called "User Agent RG 1.0" and then under Tools -> User Agent, select "Firefox 4". You have to make this selection every time you open the firefox browser in the webtop as the setting is not preserved.
I think this is phone browser problem .

[Q] Shortcut to web browser

Hello,
I have an ACER Liquid E2 running Android 4.2
I have installed 3 web browsers, and I can see that some websites are much better browsed with one browser than with another. But it is not the same browser which best browses all the websites.
So I want to have a shortcut which points to website A with Chrome, another shortcut which points to website B with Firefox, etc. The problem is that when I create shortcuts to a website on my desktop, it always launches the default browser. And if I do not define a default browser, I have to say which browser I want to use each time I activate a shortcut. It is boring, and I do not always remember which browser is the best for each website.
So here is the question: is there a way to create shortcuts which are browser dependant and would permit me to associate one website with Chrome, another website with Firefox, .... ?
Thanks for any help.

Only thing I can think of off the top of my head is using each browser's bookmark widget (Chrome, Dolphin, etc). Not every browser has them, unfortunately, but you should be able to find a generic bookmark widget that you can substitute.

Hello es0tericcha0s,
Thanks for your answer.
Unfortunately, the shortcuts created from a browser bookmark seem to be nothing more than shortcuts to the URL. They do not seem to contain information on the browser to use. I have tried creating shortcuts from the standard Android browser as well as from Chrome, and they all behave the same: they use the default browser if it is defined, otherwise they ask which browser to use. The only difference is the look of the shortcut icon.
I was thinking that perhaps a one-line script could do the job. But I have not been able to locate the executable files for Chrome, Firefox, or the standard browser.
Could anyone help ?
