[Q] Left or right handed use - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Can anyone tell me if the option to change the phone to left/right hand exists in the SG3 as i cant see it anywhere.
Out of the box, the OK/cancel buttons are the wrong way round or different from i'm used to but cant find the option to changed the handedness.
Many thanks,
Chris

This isn't a question of left or right handed, the button order has been changed at ics.

The buttons were switched in ICS. This isn't a left/right handed setting.

Damnit! you got there first lol

Really?
Very annoying then. I've just come from a Galaxy Note with ICS and the buttons were the opposite way round to my S3 running ICS.

[Q] Can I get the Lockscreen PIN without the OK button?

Is it possible for the lockscreen Pin to unlock my device automatically? Without the need for me to press okay?
My password is about 5 numbers long, and I hate pressing those, then pressing the OK button. Mainly because I can press those 5 buttons without looking at the screen, but I have to look to find the OK button.
IOS has it set like this (but only allows 4 numbers). Is there a way we can have something similar?
I believe Cyanogen mod has this as well :S
Thanks
I think widgetlocker has this option.

Just curious, what are you doing AFTER you unlock your phone, that you do not have to look at it? In other words, why is it a big deal that you have to glance at the screen to touch the "OK" button, when right after touching "OK", you'll most likely be looking at the screen anyway? I could understand if you were unlocking it to do something that didn't require you to look at the screen, but at the moment I can't think of anything that would accomodate that.

It's mainly that I'm in class, and I dont want to look down that often. So I can pretty much unlock it without looking, then just quickly text. Then look back up. I dont want to look down, wait for it to unlock, then text... It's a matter of seconds, but I hate getting caught

I've noticed with some lockscreen apps, you can simply press home or the back key to get out of them. Is this also the case with widgetlocker? Or is it secure?
And does it keep the sense lockscreen UI? or does it change it

Click/Tap on the time bottom right and a menu should pop up (I assume Stock Rom). In the icon-line (right of wifi) there should be a number of on/off switchable options. One of these is notification. If it is coloured (i.e. not grayed out) it is on. Just tap it to deactivate it. But it should show at bottom of menu what the notification is about. You can clear it by tapping the "x" next to it (for HC), or "clear" (for ICS).

[Feature request] Pie usability enhancements

In 4.3 pie implementation user needs swipe precise from the center of one side to activate pie. On large screen this hamer usability because user needs to make thumb gimnastick to do that. Please add possibility to just swype from side to activate pie. It's much faster that way.
+1 And Also having the option to activate the controls in the bottom or in the sides at the same time.

this makes sense in landscape mode on phones too. trying to find the middle is kind of difficult.

well it is that or, long press on the switch apps button pops up a menu, a vertical list of rows of the most recently used apps, and you just swipe up or down to select the one that you want to multitask too. That would be faster.
thanks for implementing this

Allcast / screen mirror

hey guys!
I rooted me S6 edge and I tried to screen mirror to my Samsung TV which worked prior to rooting. I remember having this issue with my S5 and I just went and got the MHL cord. Unfortunately it does not work with the S6 as it does not fit.
Is there a solution to this yet or to early to tell?
How are you even getting to the screen mirror settings? I tried to link this to my Samsung TV but I am not seeing the option on the phone.

Pull down the notification menu by swiping down from the top. Tap on 'EDIT' near the top right. Drag the "Screen Mirroring" icon to the top half of the screen. Tap 'DONE'. Now, "Screen Mirroring" will appear in your quick settings panel in the notification menu.

I'm having the exact same problem. Have you tried adding 'wlan.wfd.hdcp=disable' to your build.prop? I haven't gotten a chance to try it - but that's the fix on a lot of other Samsung devices.

I have not tried this build prop yet nor have I ever done one either. Where would I enter this?

I just tried the option that doesn't stick between reboots and screen mirroring is now working just fine on my rooted Galaxy S6.
I'll edit the /system/build.prop file later - and hopefully, that'll fix the issue permanently.

very cool,
I will wait for the definite fix. I break enough things on my own! hahaha
@JoeSmit
hey brotha man, any luck with that patch? I was looking around to but I haven't found anything yet. I guess I might have to buy a new MHL cable. the one for the S5 doesn't fit... :crying:
Try this solution.
It fixes both screen mirror and key light problem.

Lock screen weirdness

Xiaomi has made some very strange choices regarding the lock screen:
1) By default anyone has access to the camera from the lock screen. You have to turn that off in Settings (Lock screen & password > Lock screen shortcuts - disable "Right").
2) There's a strange four-leaf clover symbol in a disk at the top right that gives access to the Wallpaper Carousel. Press the symbol and you get a "Terms and Conditions" dialog. It gives access to buttons at the bottom and swipe left to access Wallpaper Carousel. So anyone who borrows your phone can do things with it. I don't know how to prevent this. I've found no setting to get rid of the clover disk.
3) The status bar is active on the Lock screen with no apparent way to disable it. That gives access to all your toggle buttons, so your connection, your wi-fi and you bluetooth can be turned on or off by anyone. The brightness can be changed, notifications read. The only way I can see to stop access to the toggle buttons is to separate the Notifications & toggles layout (under: Notifications & status bar), which means that you don't have access to them when you've unlocked the phone. Anyone know how to take the status bar off the Lock screen?
This is all very bizzare.
About access status bar on the lockscreen, you can disable it in the settings->Notification&Status bar->last one:"Show on lockscreen"

I saw the setting, changed it, looked at the result and didn't see any difference, so I went back, saw it was headed "Notification Shade", and I didn't understand it so I thought it must have been something else. But I never tested the notification bar. It actually does the job, so thank you! (And I kick myself.)
I just have to find a solution for the first problem now.

Actually, as I couldn't see any change, I reset it. Your post made me look at it again more closely!
All I need to know now is how to get rid of the Wallpaper Carousel and the four-leaf clover button from the lock screen and I'll be happy.
So I successfully disabled Wallpaper Carousel by using an app called Ice Box which requires root access. Is your device rooted ?

Thanks for the post. I haven't rooted the phone as yet: I still need to get the bootloader unlocked for the TWRP route.
I just uninstalled the Wallpaper Carousel, which also had the desired effect of closing up a gap in the lockscreen.
A ok ! Glad you were able to uninstall it Miui comes with a lot of bloatware preinstalled so you have to tinker around a little bit. I'm eagerly waiting for a stable aosp custom rom for this device to switch to it as I can't stand Miui
Hi guys, is there any way to disable the MIUI lockscreen and use a third party app? I like Muzei with Bing image of the day 😁

You can disable the stock lock screen by going to Setting > Screen lock & fingerprint > Turn off lock. . . .
If you don't have an app wallpaper carousel that's dedicated to the lock screen, you might look at this post on the MIUI forum.
