Clock Work Mod folder on GS3?? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys
Apologies if this is in the incorrect section or if somebody has posted before, I have searched but can't seem to find anything. I have a Clock Work Mod folder which appears to be empty on my factory standard GS3... Any ideas how this got there??
Thanks for any info on this...

The folder refers to the recovery that you must have installed when rooting.
It's a folder for any system backups you make using recovery

I haven't rooted though... Having said that, I wonder if it wasn't installed when ROM manager was installed on my device when I logged into Google the first time... That could explain it...

Sounds like you either removed something it needs, or didn't build the ROM together right.
They are bigger than nexus ROMs due to Touchwiz.
Hmm yeah but what is the problem? You said in your thread that you will made your own light rom how have you done it? Did it work? What could be an important app? I deleted the hole list from the angelom thread on page 19 or so and some other crap like livewallpaper. But I have deleted this apps before trough root explorer and everything worked fine.

OK it will be the putting together of the ROM that's the issue. Did you CWM flash?
No with heimdall because I cant create a flashable zip.

If you didn't even see the bootanimation that means the bootanimation isn't there or its corrupt. this means, you either got a problem while flashing, or the files are damaged while packing the file.

[Recovery] CWM Recovery

If you are on honeycomb you are free to flash recovery via Rom manager.
If you are on gb I am working on a compatible recovery right now. Once I get it done you will be able to use the features in Rom manager but not flash recovery via Rom manager
confirmed working with Honeycomb htcdev unlocked hboot 1.14.
whats the difference from this one compared to the older one most of us currently run?

any hope on porting a touch based recovery? I think all tabs should have a touch based recovery since the lack of HW buttons
Guessing this still does not allow to use the internal memory for anything?

That is next on my list. I'm hoping to get with doomlord for the touchscreen stuff as the flyer/evo view uses nonstandard calls.

I removed the update zip. It doesn't actually replace recovery. Only soft boots it. Use img file via fastboot
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA Premium App
is there anything special we gotta do if we already have the older version? Or can we just use the fastboot command and boom?

Updated OP
I just rooted my view last night.. I flashed recovery once, enough to put the SU file on SD card to root. But since then, I've tried to do a backup (through ROM manager) and the white HTC screen pops up and doesn't go away. So then I tried to do it manually through hboot and when I choose recovery it does the same thing .. what do you think might be the problem? I'm very new to this so I'm hoping it is something simple that I missed... Please help

just over pc or mac! no other way trust me
Yep. Initial root requires a computer.
If you really need to root right now, download Odin and CF-Root on your phone and ask someone to borrow their computer or use a public computer. Move the files to the computer and root it in less than one minute and you're done!
i have a few questions maybe you guys can help... so here we go:
when you root with odin, it unlocks the phone giving you su right. does this also change your rom?
how is the launcher different than the rom? difference between flashing rom and kernal?
last one... when you install a custom rom, can you delete it if there are bugs to reinstall a different one or use the stock?

Back up stock rom

Hi everyone,
I just reset my phone through LGPNST, cuz I accidentally deleted the Rom trying to flash new Rom . I learned it the hard way cuz I had my phone stuck in recovery mode for a week.
Long story short I just wanna backup my stock Rom before I try to flash other roms. Can anybody suggest best way how to do it ?
Every reply is appreciated and thanks in advance,.

Do you mean TWRP? Just back it up in recovery (TWRP). However, if you are using the recovery that freegee installed, I'd download and flash a newer one from the development section. They create much more reliable backups.

Yes it's twrp which I downloaded from freegee . I tried to backup from the system but it said failed for some reason which I dont remember. As I told I'm kinda new to all this stuff .this is my first android device . So could you please send the link that you're talking about . Thank you for your reply .

Here's the link for the TWRP that has been developed for the OG: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2019662. I was able to flash this to my phone via the instructions within this thread. I'm a noob as well to flashing, so can't give advice beyond pointing you here.
Here's a link for Clockwork Mod for the OG, another recovery program: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010984
There seems to be a bit more development being done for the Clockwork Mod...

Dude, first: please turn of caps lock, no one wants to answer this way. You can't boot into CWM Recovery cause you didn't install it, I think. Installing ROM Manager does not mean installing CWM.
